Typhoon Co-may Hit Eastern China
On Wednesday, Typhoon Co-may hit eastern China, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. It first struck Zhoushan, then Shanghai.
In Shanghai, strong winds shook windows. Families were 1 panes with crossed strips—parents lifting older kids to reach high spots, younger children 2 tape, with eyes wide. “Rain drummed on the roof,” said 13-year-old Li Mei.
Neighbours helped each other. Mr Wang, 3 retired teacher, carried an old lady upstairs. Mrs Chen 4 buckets with water, “Just in case.”
At airports, travellers played cards, sharing snacks. “We laugh instead of 5 ,” one student said. On highways, cars inched along
In Ningbo, farmers rushed to gather rice. Uncle Zhao bent low in his field, raincoat flapping 6 ; his wife shouted, “Hurry!” Kids watched from doorways, 7 at shaking trees.
In Jiangsu, Zhang Wei helped his mum move books. “Basement (地下室) flooded last year,” he said. His sister drew by the window, paying no attention to the 8 noises.

It was last January. When I’d just finished a charity event and was on the train back home, I put down my phone and started writing thank-you letters to people who had helped.
When I got off the train, I felt good. The next day, I wrote more thank-you letters and the feeling of happiness hit me again. I suddenly had the idea: Why not keep on doing this for every day of the year?
To keep on the task, I decided to pick out a different theme for each month. January was charity. February would be neighbours, I decided. And I thought of a number of names right away: the owner of the bookstore in our neighbourhood, who let me and my little son in before the store opened and offered to play his favourite songs; our babysitter, who dropped off a bag of old board games for my kids to play…
While writing the letters, I realized how often I had spent my time on the phone moving from app to app, appreciating other people’s lives. Writing thank-you letters allowed me the time to do something different, paying more attention to my own life.
In the following months, I wrote to my friends, doctors, teachers and parenting role models. In July, my “food” month, I wrote to Julie, who used to cook at my favourite restaurant. I was happy to receive a letter back from her. Julie replied, “I don’t think I’ve ever received such a touching letter before. I’m going through a hard time right now, and this helps.”
On 31st December, I wrote my last card—to Jake, my husband, and our two kids. And I took a picture of us, so I could remember the feeling in my mind. Thankfulness.

In many parts of the world, natural disasters happen every year. Some of them are very powerful and cause great damage. Knowing how to stay safe during a disaster is important.
For example, during an earthquake, you should drop, cover, and hold on. Find a strong table or desk and stay under it until the shaking stops. If you are in bed, stay there and cover your head with a pillow. Stay away from windows, bookshelves, and heavy furniture that might fall.
During a thunderstorm, it’s best to stay indoors. Avoid using electrical devices or taking a shower because lightning can travel through wires and pipes. If you are outside, never stand under a tall tree. Crouch down low and keep away from metal objects.
In a sandstorm, protect your eyes and mouth. Wear goggles and a mask if you have them. If you are driving, pull over and stay in the car until the storm passes. Sandstorms can reduce visibility greatly, so driving is dangerous.
People who live in areas with hurricanes should prepare early. Board up windows, bring in outdoor furniture, and store enough food and water. When the hurricane comes, stay in a small, windowless room on the lowest floor.

Typhoon Co-may Hit Eastern China
On Wednesday, Typhoon Co-may hit eastern China, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. It first struck Zhoushan, then Shanghai.

(B)

根据文本内容,正确顺序是:首先,“started writing thank-you letters to people who had helped”作者在回家的火车上开始写感谢信(b. I started writing thank-you letters on the train);接着,“I decided to pick out a different theme for each month”作者决定为每个月挑选不同的主题(d. I decided to pick out different themes);然后,“February would be neighbours, I decided.” I wrote thank-you letters to my neighbours);最后,“I was happy to receive a letter back from her.” Julie wrote a letter back to me)。
I had spent my time on the phone moving from app to app, appreciating other people’s lives.”
根据第五段Julie的回复“I don’t think I’ve ever received such a touching letter before. I’m going through a hard time right now, and this helps.”
根据最后一段“On 31st December, I wrote my last card—to Jake, my husband, and our two kids.”
选项A“My thank-you year”最能概括文章主旨。故选A。
