Passage 1
(24-25高二下·北京·期中)
Technology is changing fast. Every year, there are some inventions that make our life so much easier, smarter. You’ll find the new technologies below are brilliant, and some of them are a little fun.
A Scent-Based Alarm Clock $59
Who wants the noisy beeping of an alarm clock waking them up every morning and starting their day off on the wrong foot? We believe, nobody. This special alarm clock replaces that sharp sound with a calming melody-oh, and it can give off a pleasant smell. Think: freshly ground coffee, freshly mown grass, and the fresh scent of flowers.
Voice-Activated Lights $70
About 50 percent of people in the United Kingdom admitted to keeping the lights on when they leave the house. The sad reality is that sometimes we forget to turn the lights off and other times, we’re just too lazy to walk over to the light switch. But there’s a simple solution: Voice-activated light switches. If you own a Google Assistant, then these automated lights will connect to your smart device so you can command them to dim, stay on for a specified period of time, or just turn off completely.
A Mug with a Customizable Temperature $80
Drinking boiled hot coffee is no fun-it may burn your mouth. Luckily, one company has come up with a solution for liquids that are too hot for a long time. They designed a mug that allows you to choose your ideal liquid temperature, and their technology will maintain the temperature as you sip leisurely. The mug is so high-tech that you can even connect it to your phone and it will keep you updated on the status of the temperature.
An Instant Voice Translator $85
Since many kinds of languages are spoken around the world, being bilingual is a valuable skill. Most of us don’t exactly have the time on our hands to learn that many languages, so the next-best thing is this device that will translate over 32 languages in real time. One person tested the device and stated that it is “simple and readily understood, with proper information on word synonyms.”

Some of the buildings that Shakespeare would have walked past and indeed lived in are still standing in Stratford-upon-Avon. If you can't make it along. why not recreate a miniature Stratford-upon-Avon? We offer a simple art activity created for Shakespeare Week by artist Jennie Maizels. Children can follow her step-by-step video and use the downloadable resources free on the website. It is a simple but effective tracing and copying activity, exploring watercolor and fineline pen painting and drawing techniques.
Design a storyworld
Participants can work with other children to design a “narrative environment” or “storyworld” that picks out a key or magical moment from one of Shakespeare's stories. This will offer them a great chance to explore Shakespeare's world.

I am writing with information about BAC University Summer Term’s four exciting programs for high school students. These programs provide the opportunity to study at a world-renowned university, strengthen English-language skills and enjoy summer in Boston. Here is a brief overview of our programs:
High School Honors is a six-week residential or online program in which students take BAC University undergraduate courses and earn up to 8 transferable college credits. Students must be entering Grades 10-12 in fall 2024.
Academic Immersion (AIM) is a three-week non-credit residential program for students to focus intensively on a single academic topic. This summer we are offering three AIM tracks: Introduction to Experimental Psychology, Introduction to Medicine, and Creative Writing. All three tracks combine classroom work with hands-on experiential learning activities. Students must be entering Grade 11 or Grade 12 in fall 2024.
Summer Challenge is a two-week residential or online program in which students take two non-credit seminars of their choice and experience college life. Students must be entering Grade 12 in fall 2024.
Summer Preview is a one-week non-credit residential program in which students explore one subject of interest while previewing the college experience. Students must be entering Grade 9 or Grade10 in fall 2024.
Our Summer Term’s programs provide students with rigorous and collaborative college life experiences that enable them to gain a strong sense of their personal and academic potential. Every year, our students form strong friendships as they undertake challenging coursework and participate in social events.

Shakespeare Week is the annual national celebration of Shakespeare in primary schools, organized by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Since its launch in 2014, over eight million primary school children have had first experiences of the world’s greatest writer. This year, Shakespeare Week runs from 16 to22 March and has a theme of art and design. It's free to register and to access the hundreds of resources on the Shakespeare Week website, including videos, plays, poetry, storytelling, debate, art and much more, providing children with first experiences of the world’s best-known writer.
Create a Shakespeare portrait
We're working with some of the nation's best-loved children's illustrators to contribute a portrait of William Shakespeare. Participants can see their artworks in a fabulous online exhibition. They can imagine their own William Shakespeare, plan and decide how they would like to represent him. Here are some suggestions:
·Make an abstract Shakespeare, Draw a sketch of Shakespeare and then use a tablet to take photographs of the portrait. Create a selection of images that show a range of thoughts and emotions.
·Children can enter their Shakespeare portraits in a competition to win the chance to have their works exhibited during Shakespeare Week. They will also receive an art workshop for their class from great artists.
Recreate Shakespeare's hometown
Why not take your children to join us? You won't regret it!
