She went out of the house and ran around the garden ten times. Ben Weatherstaff was working in it. “Spring is coming,” he said to Mary. “I can smell it in the air. ▲ .” At this moment, the robin flew towards them and landed at Mary’s feet. “He remembers me,” she said. “He knows everything here,” Ben said. “Only he knows what’s happening in the secret garden without a door into it. No one else has been inside it for ten years.” Ben walked away to continue his work. Mary began talking to the robin. She felt happier than she had ever felt. The robin trusted her and did not fly away. It began pecking (啄食) at the ground, looking for a worm to eat. Mary looked closely at the ground. She saw that there was something like metal (金属). She picked it up. It was dirty and rusty. She cleaned it and saw that it was a key. “It’s been in the ground for many years,” she thought. “I wonder if it is the key to the garden. If it is, then I must find the door.” Mary skipped (跃) around the garden. The robin followed her. Mary stopped skipping and spoke to the robin. “He showed me where to find the key,” she thought. “Can you show me where the door is?” The robin sat on the top of the garden wall. It began to sing. The wall was covered with ivy. Mary pulled at a piece of the ivy. It came away from the wall. Behind the wall was a door. Mary put the key in the lock of the door and turned it. The door opened. Only seconds later, Mary was inside the secret garden. Mary thought it was the most beautiful garden she had ever seen. —Adapted from The Secret Garden 1. 1. 根据前一句“‘Spring is coming,’ he said to Mary. ‘I can smell it in the air.’” 可知,Ben在说春天要来了,能闻到春天的气息,接下来应描述春天到来的景象。 2. 根据文中描述“the robin flew towards them”“did not fly away”“It began pecking at the ground, looking for a worm to eat”“It began to sing.”等行为,可知它是一种会飞、会啄食、会鸣叫的鸟。 3. 文中先提到“At this moment, the robin flew towards them and landed at Mary’s feet.”,接着“The robin trusted her and did not fly away. It began pecking at the ground, looking for a worm to eat.”,然后“Mary skipped around the garden. The robin followed her.”,最后“The robin sat on the top of the garden wall. But this year, there came a decisive moment. It came when my adult children, who’d been home for two weeks, headed back to their homes. There was a sadness I felt as I waved their cars out of sight, not knowing when I’d see them again. But at that moment I realized that something in me needed to change. So I asked myself, “What is truly good in your life?” What is good is my relationships with my children, but not only those relationships. What also keeps my heart beating is creating a home, no matter who is there, and cooking balanced, plant-based meals, even if just for me. I find joy in nature and connections with close friends and family. I love doing photography and writing and teaching myself piano. Whatever was missing from my life, at the end of last year I knew about the parts that worked. As winter ended and the visiting children prepared to leave, I looked to the future. I think of my friend, Lisa, who in May lost her husband of 30 years to cancer, and who found herself on New Year’s Eve with no one to be with. Her aloneness was lasting in that turning-point moment, but her sadness was momentary (短暂的). “I realized I had a choice, ” she told me. Instead of giving way to loneliness, she chose to find something meaningful to do. We humans can become bored with defeat. We know something is just the other side. Like a new year, I have two choices. I can brand myself as the long-suffering mother who never thought of how to live on after her children left. Or I can take to the piano in the center of the house each day and practice Ode to Joy with one hand until such time as I feel ready to play with two. 1. What can we know about the author from the first paragraph? A.She didn’t want to live a lonely life any more. B.She was curious about her life in the New Year. A.go to live with one of her adult children B.continue to lose herself in loneliness C.change her life by doing what she likes D.take more music classes in college 3. Why does the author mention her friend Lisa? A.To show there are people with worse lives than herself B.To point out there are choices even when life is difficult C.To prove being on one's own has a big influence on others. D.To stress the importance of family members on New Year’s Eve. 4. How does the author feel about her future? A.Uncertain. B.Doubtful. C.Worried. D.Hopeful 【答案】1. A 2. C 3. B 4. Yang Su, a 61-year-old professional micro vlogger (专业微博博主), is among them. With more than 2.3 million followers on China’s famous short video app “Douyin”, his videos have been watched by over 1 million times. “Three years ago, my son put a short video of me playing the piano at home on ‘Douyin’, and hours later it was played over 1 million times,” Yang remembered. After graduating from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, he was a pianist of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (交响乐团). The Internet has opened a door to a whole new world for him. For the past three years, he has filmed over 700 short videos and opened an official account on social platform WeChat to share articles and offer online piano lessons. It’s not easy for him to learn how to film a video, something that might not be easy even for young people. Spending a long time staring at the sheet music (活页乐谱) always causes eye soreness, and he needs to play through the music since he doesn’t know how to edit (编辑) and cut clips. His child helps him a lot later. “The Internet has opened the door to a new world,” Yang said. “I always keep myself busy and feel very young at my age.” However, do other old people get used to the digital world like Yang? Ding Qiulin is a 73-year-old man from Hunan. “I got my smartphone more than one year ago, but I only use WeChat for video calls,” he said. Ding finds it hard to learn to use other apps. ▲ Luo Xu, a post-90s volunteer, joined a non-profit organization in Beijing nine years ago to teach old people how to use the Internet. “While I am helping people aged between 50 and 90 years old, I have a strong feeling of satisfaction (满足),” Luo said. 1. Passage 2 I am not interested in making the New Year’s decisions. Passage 12 Oliver decided to leave the workhouse for London. “No one will find me in London,” he thought. On the first day, he walked and walked for twenty miles, then he fell asleep, tired and hungry. He walked for another seven days, begging for food and water. Then in the afternoon, he walked slowly and sadly into a small town near London and sat down to rest. His feet were bleeding (流血) and he was covered in dirt. Four or five boys, about the same age as the Dodger, sat around a table. “Fagin,” said the Dodger to the man, “this is my new friend Oliver Twist.” Fagin smiled, then he shook Oliver’s hand and said, “We are very glad to meet you, Oliver.” After that, they all had supper.
