A new study shows that we should know more about it.
2 It makes it very hard to recognize people, even if you can see well, think clearly and remember things normally. Their study found that some people with face blindness can’t even recognize their own family or close friends if they meet them in surprising places.
29 adults with face blindness in the UK took part in an online survey. These adults were asked to share their experiences of living with the condition. Of these people, 35% said they often ran to recognize their closest family members if they meet them in unexpected places. 3 The researchers said that most people don’t know much about face blindness, which may make it harder for people to understand those who have the condition.
According to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), face blindness can affect the ability to recognize emotions on other people’s faces and guess their ages. 4

At an early age, we start learning how to manage money by watching our parents’ spending habits. Don’t worry if we haven’t learned well how to save or spend money. The following life lessons about money can help us form good spending habits.
1 As kids, we don’t often think about where money comes from. We need to know that our parents work hard to make money, and that it may be used up one day. Going to their workplaces to watch how they work is a great way to understand money is not that easy to make.

The sunlight shone on everything — trees, roofs and streets. 3 The rays of light woke up the gentle morning wind and sent it moving across the field, touching my face and everything gently. It also woke up the early birds which were singing happily.
There and then I realized that past is history, no matter how much we regret it. I thought to myself, “Maybe I can start once more, just like the dawn (黎明) .” 4

Most of us know that our brains become smaller in size as we get older, but did you know that diet and lifestyle have an effect on how well our brains work?
Research shows that eating lots of fruit, vegetables and proteins (蛋白质) improves memory. 1 Eating oily fish or dark chocolate (with over 70% cocoa) and taking Vitamin D3 can also help make your memory stronger.
2 A 2011 study showed that regular exercise actually increases brain size. Another study found that exercise improved memory in some older people; surprisingly it found that one single training period had the same effect on memory as a regular, long exercise period!
One study found that eight weeks of short, daily meditation (默想) improved memory. Other ways to relax can also improve our short-term memory. Try taking 5-10 minutes of your day to meditate or listen to music. 3 Experts say that age reduces our ability to learn, but sleep can help. For your brain to work well, 7-9 hours of sleep is necessary. A 2019 study found that students learned things better before and after a short sleep!
4 Try to memorize information like phone numbers and addresses rather than putting the information in your phone. You could also learn a language or do brain training like crosswords
A.Or even just take a shower!
B.Use your phone to help you memorize things.
C.The role of exercise is really important too.
D.Try to avoid sugary foods such as cakes and milk chocolate.
E.To keep your brain in good condition, you need to use it.
Talk to people you disagree with
Everyone sometimes has disagreements with friends or family members. Disagreements are uncomfortable. There are some steps you can take to make the conversation meaningful.
See their attitude
Even if you disagree with someone, you can still listen to what they say. Let them know that you’re paying attention to them by listening carefully with interest. Another way to show that you’re listening is by asking questions or repeating what they said. 1
Use polite language
When someone has an opinion you don’t agree with, don’t pay too much attention to it. 2 Instead, focus on speaking calmly. For example, you may begin with “I feel” or “I see this in another way”.
Stick to the facts
If you have a strong opinion, it’s better to stick to the facts instead of feelings. 3 Then relax your shoulders and speak in a calm voice. If you are stopped by someone, you can remind the person that it’s your turn to speak. Then give him another chance to speak later.
Find common ground
If you find that you can’t change the other person’s mind, and they may not change yours. 4 You may also get a better understanding of each other’s opinions.
In the end, it’s worth the effort because healthy communication builds strong relationships and communities.
A.Still, look for the points you agree on.
B.Start by asking if you can share your opinion.
C.If this happens to you, you’d better say sorry to your friends.
D.Avoid using impolite adjectives, like “stupid”, “foolish” or “silly”.
E.You can start by saying, “OK. I understand you. You are saying...”

Artificial intelligence (AI) is used to run online search engines, help doctors find out what sickness people have, and do many other hard tasks. 1
Recently, a band called The Velvet Sundown was revealed (揭露) to have been created using AI. They have more than one million listeners on Spotify every month. But it wasn’t just the music that came from AI. The pictures of the band members and the stories about them were also made up by AI. 2 When they found out, some thought the songs should have been clearly marked as AI-made. So does it matter if music is created by AI?
Yes, it should have a warning.
Music is so much more than just a tune and lyrics. It’s connected to human experiences and emotions, and often carries powerful messages. Music that has been created by a computer just doesn’t have the same depth, so listeners should be told if music is made by AI. 3 Not giving the artists credit when their work has been used is really unfair. Also, AI changes very fast, so it’s important to clearly mark AI-made music.
No, it doesn’t matter how music is made.
4 It’s the end result that matters. If people can’t tell that music has been made using AI, then surely it’s just as good as the real thing. AI can also help musicians who don’t have expensive tools. Technology has been used in music for many years. This is simply the next step. If AI music has a warning, should remakes of old songs have warnings too?
A.At first, people didn’t know this.
B.AI can make life easier, but some people also worry about it.
C.As long as people like the way music sounds, does it matter how it was made?
D.Creating music with AI makes music more important to people.
E.Some artists say their music is used to train AI without asking them first.

Learning can be exciting when you follow your curiosity (好奇心)! Scientists say curious students enjoy studying more. They can find ways to make school subjects more enjoyable. Here are four easy ways to start with.
• Ask questions.
1 If you study physics, wonder why light travels faster than sound. When learning Chinese, ask why Tang poems remain so popular in modern China. Questions make learning more active and help you understand better.
• Connect lessons to real life.
Find how school subjects are part of your life. 2 English is useful when you travel abroad. Geography can explain weather changes. When you find knowledge is practical, you’ll want to learn more.
• 3
Make word cards to play memory games. Put together a puzzle map (拼图) to learn about the shapes of countries. Use apps or online tools to practice spelling and grammar. Learning by doing feels like play, not work.
• Learn outside school.
Join a community center to learn to play a new sport. 4 Going to a park or a zoo allows you to watch plants and animals carefully while learning about them. Different ways of learning keep your brain excited.
Start with one way today. You’ll find learning useful. You will also find it enjoyable. Remember, every subject becomes interesting when you’re curious about it.
A.Develop good habits.
B.Turn learning into games.
C.Math helps when you are shopping.
D.Always ask “why” when learning something.
E.Visit museums to see what life was like in the past.

【答案】1.D 2.C 3.A 4.E

4.后文提到主动记忆信息、学习新语言、做填字游戏都是锻炼大脑的方式,E项“To keep your brain in good condition, you need to use it.”
【答案】1.E 2.D 3.B 4.A
1.根据“Another way to show that you’re listening is by asking questions or repeating what they said.” E“You can start by saying, ‘OK. I understand you. You are saying...’”
D“Avoid using impolite adjectives, like ‘stupid’ ‘foolish’ or ‘silly’”承接上文的礼貌沟通要求。
3.根据“Then relax your shoulders and speak in a calm voice”可知,此处是表达观点前的步骤,选项B“Start by asking if you can share your opinion”承上启下,衔接“依据事实”和“平静表达”。
4.根据本段小标题“Find common ground”和“If you find that you can’t change the other person’s mind, and they may not change yours”可知,此处是寻找共同点的具体做法,选项A“Still, look for the points you agree on”承上启下。

【答案】1.B 2.A 3.E 4.C
B“AI can make life easier, but some people also worry about it.”
2.根据后文“When they found out, some thought the songs should have been clearly marked as AI-made.” A“At first, people didn’t know this.”
3.根据后文“Not giving the artists credit when their work has been used is really unfair.” E“Some artists say their music is used to train AI without asking them first.”
4.根据本段核心观点“No, it doesn’t matter how music is made.”以及后文“It’s the end result that matters.” C“As long as people like the way music sounds, does it matter how it was made?”
