Yang Zhenning passed away because of illness in Beijing on October 18, 2025. He was 103 years old. Besides being a Nobel Prize winner in Physics, he was also an academician (院士) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at Tsinghua University.
Yang was born in 1922. As a teenager, he lived in Tsinghua Garden — a place that left him with deep memories. Later, he studied at Southwest Associated University. In 1945, Yang went to the US for further education and got his doctorate (博士学位) from the University of Chicago.
His greatest achievement came in 1957: he won the Nobel Prize in Physics with Li Zhengdao, for putting forward the theory of parity non-conservation (宇称不守恒理论). This made him one of the first Chinese scientists to win this top honor. What’s more, his “Yang-Mills gauge theory (杨-米尔斯规范场论)” is widely seen as a cornerstone (基石) of modern physics.
Yang always had a strong love for his motherland. In 1971, he became the first top scientist to visit New China after 1949. He worked hard to build bridges between Chinese and American scientists. He also raised money to support nearly 100 Chinese experts to study abroad, helping them learn scientific knowledge. In 1999, Yang started teaching at Tsinghua University and finally stayed in China forever. He once said, “Chinese culture is like a root (根) in my heart.”
Throughout his life, he kept working for both science and his country. He has become a great role model for all young people. His story tells them that working hard for what they love can make a difference.
Yang Zhenning died in 2025 at 103. He got 1 at home and abroad when he was young. Thanks to that, 2 : winning the Nobel Prize in Physics and putting forward the “Yang-Mills gauge theory”. Though he was abroad for years, 3 . He worked hard to help China with scientific development. His life story 4 .
【答案】1.a good education 2.he made great achievements in physics 3.he always loved his country 4.has influenced/inspired many young people
【导语】本文是一篇人物传记,介绍了诺贝尔物理学奖得主杨振宁先生的生平、求学经历、科学成就、爱国情怀,以及他对年轻一代的影响。
1.第二段指出“Yang was born in 1922. As a teenager, he lived in Tsinghua Garden — a place that left him deep memories. Later, he studied at Southwest Associated University. In 1945, Yang went to the US for further education and got his doctorate (博士学位) from the University of Chicago”,即杨振宁先后在西南联大、芝加哥大学求学并获得博士学位,说明他接受了良好的教育,因此填a good education。
2.第三段提出“His greatest achievement came in 1957: he won the Nobel Prize in Physics with Li Zhengdao, for putting forward the theory of parity non-conservation (宇称不守恒理论). This made him one of the first Chinese scientists to win this top honor. What’s more, his ‘Yang-Mills gauge theory (杨-米尔斯规范场论)’ is widely seen as a cornerstone (基石) of modern physics”,即杨振宁在物理学领域取得了巨大成就,因此填he made great achievements in physics。
3.第四段首句提出“Yang always had a strong love for his motherland”以及后文的爱国事迹表明他的爱国行动,因此此处填总起句he always loved his country,与原文首句完全对应。
4.第五段指出“Throughout his life, he kept working for both science and his country. He has become a great role model for all young people. His story tells them that working hard for what they love can make a difference”,原文表明他成为了年轻人的榜样,激励了无数年轻人,因此填has influenced/inspired many young people,与原文语义完全匹配。

A new study has found that 176 kinds of birds around the world are building their nests with rubbish from humans, such as cigarette butts (烟头) and plastic bags. Aren’t birds supposed to use things in nature, like grass, leaves and other parts of trees, to build their homes? Yes, they used to.
But now things are different. A group of European scientists looked into about 35,000 studies on bird nests. They found that birds have used man-made things in nests almost everywhere on Earth.
Why do birds “like” putting rubbish in their nests? Scientists find the chemicals (化学物质) in cigarette butts can keep insects away and protect the baby birds. Besides, plastic bags are useful in keeping the birds warm, and other hard things, such as paper cards, can make nests stronger.
However, in the end, human rubbish may only bring more problems to birds. The unhealthy chemicals in cigarettes hurt the baby birds. They may get sick or have shorter lives. To make matters worse, if the cigarette fire is not off when the bird brings it back to its home, it may set the nest on fire. Seabirds were found to add fishing nets to their nests, which may also cause danger to themselves—it’s impossible for them to get out by themselves.
Our friends in the air are living a hard life because of some human activities. To improve the situation, people shouldn’t be allowed to smoke or leave rubbish behind when there are many trees around. And to make the idea work, people must receive punishment for breaking the rules. We can also play our part by building artificial (人工的) nests that are warm and safe for birds.
Summary
A study found 176 bird species worldwide now use human rubbish like cigarette butts and plastic bags 1 to build nests. 2 , such as keeping insects away, offering protection for baby birds, keeping the birds warm and making nests stronger. However, they also bring risks. Cigarette chemicals hurt baby birds, and the fishing nets 3 . To solve the problem, people should avoid 4 , get punishment for breaking rules and build artificial nests for birds.
【答案】1.instead of natural materials 2.They bring some benefits 3.may trap birds and cause danger 4.smoking or littering near trees
【导语】本文介绍了研究发现全球176种鸟类使用人类垃圾筑巢的现象,分析了其利弊,并提出了改善措施。
1.第一段指出鸟类原本使用“grass, leaves and other parts of trees”筑巢,但现在使用“rubbish from humans”,说明它们用垃圾“代替了天然材料”,因此应填“instead of natural materials”。
2.第三段说明了使用垃圾筑巢的好处:“keep insects away and protect the baby birds”、“keeping the birds warm”、“make nests stronger”,因此此处应概括为“它们带来一些好处”,注意与下文“However, they also bring risks.”的主语they保持一致,且句首需大写。因此应填“They bring some benefits”。
3.第四段指出使用渔网筑巢的危害:“it’s impossible for them to get out by themselves”,即渔网会“困住鸟类并造成危险”,因此应填“may trap birds and cause danger”。
4.第五段提出了解决措施:“people shouldn’t be allowed to smoke or leave rubbish behind when there are many trees around”,即应避免“在树附近吸烟或乱扔垃圾”,因此应填“smoking or littering near trees”。

Have you ever been on your way out, then suddenly worried, “Did I turn off the iron?” For people with smart homes, this problem is easy to solve.
In recent years, smart home technology has become more common and affordable. With products like smart lights and heating controls, controlling your home from anywhere is now a reality.
Mike, from Seattle, says, “We control our lights, security, TV, and heating from our phones. Our home even says hello when we enter!”
Companies like Philips, Amazon, and Google are making home automation (自动化) easier for everyone. Smart home technology helps save energy by automatically adjusting settings (调整设置). It also saves time. For example, you can set the kettle to boil for your morning tea.
Smart homes are also helpful in important ways. In Norway, a company uses this technology to help elderly people live independently. It gives reminders (提醒) for medicine and unusual situations at home. “It helps elderly people take care of themselves,” says a company manager.
For those who are used to smart homes, going back is hard. “When we visit friends, we expect things to work automatically. It can make us feel upset when they don’t,” Mike explains. “It would be like living without a cell phone.”
This passage mainly talks about the convenience and importance of 1 , allowing people to control things like lights and heating from anywhere. It helps people save 2 . It also helps the elderly live independently, by 3 so that they can look after themselves better at home. According to Mike, once you are used to a smart home, 4 .

What do you think of the saying “Traveling ten thousand miles is better than reading ten thousand books”?
Yes, this is the meaning of traveling. What has been learned from books is not enough after all. “Listening and reading” parts in the textbooks are not as good as “seeing and enjoying” for oneself in real life. So “going to the places in the textbooks” has something to do with “traveling while reading”. It works really well in students’ learning journeys. It can not only make students more interested in learning, but also bring them a more lively and fresher experience.
Many people who love traveling will find that, in fact, what they see in their eyes is quite different from it in the pictures. When they are at the places, the surprise they get and the practical (实际的) beauty can never be photographed by cameras. When they get there, they can feel the beautiful scenery that cannot be described in textbooks. And the real experience helps people in many ways. For example, students see, touch and feel the real world and get experience. This is very helpful to improve their writing abilities. No wonder some parents said, “Now when my children get home to write compositions, they can write as much as possible.”
There is a more important sense in this kind of traveling: to raise children’s love of our homes and country. There is no certain answer to the question of what kind of person a kid should become, but “having patriotism (爱国)” should be included in the answer.

4.最后一段说明这种旅行有更重要的意义:“to raise children’s love of our homes and country.”,这与报告中的“More importantly”直接呼应,此处需填入一个完整的句子表达该核心意义,故第四空填“it can raise children’s love of our homes and country”。

Have you ever bought a blind box from Pop Mart just for the excitement of opening it? Have you visited concerts or cat cafes to enjoy the happy moments? Have you ever paid for game skins or reed diffusers (香薰) to cheer yourself up? All these are called emotional consumption (情感消费).
Nowadays, it is widely popular among the young generation. Heavy pressure from study and work makes them look for easy ways to relax. It greatly helps a large number of people make friends who share the same hobbies and get a sense of identity (认同). Besides, the ideas of “pleasing oneself” and making up for (弥补) their unmet childhood wishes also encourage the growth of emotional consumption to some degree.
In fact, emotional consumption plays a helpful role in people’s lives, offering real comfort and joy when people feel tired or lonely. A report shows that in 2025, people spent more than 2.7 trillion yuan on emotional consumption and this number is still growing rapidly. As a strong driver (驱动力) of cultural and creative industries, it’s still surprising that it has achieved such impressive (令人难忘的) results.
However, the hidden dangers behind it are worth noticing if people lose control. Impulsive (冲动的) buying may lead to a waste of money. Nearly one-fifth of young people pay over 2,000 yuan for it monthly. Besides, quite a few consumers would seek mental satisfaction through such spending rather than face real problems in study and life. What’s worse, some businessmen take advantage of young people’s emotions to set consumption traps (陷阱) for them.
To consume wisely, young people are expected to learn to tell the difference between their real needs and simple wants. They can make a spending plan and think twice before buying anything. It is a better choice for them to relax in healthier and cheaper ways, such as doing sports or talking with friends. In this way, they can take a proper attitude toward emotional consumption and make it a pleasant part of life.

【答案】1.buying blind boxes 2.but also make friends and gain a sense of identity 3.waste a lot of money unwisely 4.emotional consumption can be proper and pleasant.
【导语】本文主要介绍了情感消费的定义,说明了它在年轻人中流行的原因、积极作用、潜在问题,并给出了年轻人理性对待情感消费的建议。
1.原文第一段举例介绍情感消费,题干已经列出其余例子,此处需要补充第一个举例内容“Have you ever bought a blind box from Pop Mart just for the excitement of opening it?”,从原文概括提取信息,因此答案是buying blind boxes。
2.原文第二段“Heavy pressure from study and work makes them look for easy ways to relax. It greatly helps a large number of people make friends who share the same hobbies and get a sense of identity (认同).”指出情感消费除了帮助年轻人在压力下放松,还能帮他们交到同好、获得认同感,整合原文信息可得答案but also make friends and gain a sense of identity。

Misinformation (假消息) is seen everywhere online, especially with so many AI tools helping people create photos, videos, or messages in just seconds. Some of these things look true, but in fact they are not. They spread quickly and they cause lots of problems in our daily lives. What should we do with it?
To understand misinformation, we do not need to learn many difficult terms. We just need to keep one simple idea in mind. We see different kinds of messages every day. Some are based on real facts, but others are made up to trick people into believing something wrong. Even if a person shares it without meaning to hurt others, misinformation can still spread fast and cause trouble.
People meet misinformation in many situations. For example, students may see a health tip on social media that is not true, or parents may receive a message about a school event that never happened. Experts suggest several simple ways for people to choose the right information. First, check where the message comes from. True information often appears in more than one place. Also, look for facts, such as names or numbers, because real messages usually give clear evidence.
However, even when people follow these suggestions, new problems may still appear. Some readers find it hard to judge (判断) information when they read very quickly, while others have to spend too much time making correct judgments. A study gives a helpful answer. In the study, a teacher taught students a few checking skills and guided them to practice again and again. Later, even when they read fast, they avoided many wrong messages and felt more confident.
When someone around us believes misinformation, only saying “You are wrong” usually doesn’t work. Instead, we can explain why the message is not true and teach them the ways mentioned above. If we don’t check information carefully, we may be in danger online.
Many people believe misinformation online today, lt causes lots of trouble in our daily life. So, 1 . By checking where the information comes from and looking for facts, people can 2 . 1.根据前文“Many people believe misinformation online today. It causes lots of trouble in our daily life.”可知,此处需要一个表示“我们应该如何应对假消息”的过渡句。结合后文“By checking where the information comes from...”可知,故填we should learn to check information carefully。
2.根据前文“Experts suggest several simple ways for people to choose the right information. First, check where the message comes from. True information often appears in more than one place. Also, look for facts, such as names or numbers, because real messages usually give clear evidence.”可知,检查信息来源和寻找事实的目的是“辨别信息的真伪”或“避免被假消息误导”。结合语境,故填tell true information from false information。
3.根据前文“However, even when people follow these suggestions, new problems may still appear. Some readers find it hard to judge information when they read very quickly, while others have to spend too much time making correct judgments. A study gives a helpful answer. In the study, a teacher taught students a few checking skills and guided them to practice again and again. Later, even when they read fast, they avoided many wrong messages and felt more confident.”可知,研究证明“通过反复练习检查技巧”可以解决快速阅读时难以判断信息的问题。结合语境,故填practicing checking skills again and again。
4.根据前文“When someone around us believes misinformation, only saying ‘You are wrong’ usually doesn't work. Instead, we can explain why the message is not true and teach them the ways mentioned above.”可知,使用上述方法的最终目的是“帮助他人避免相信假消息”或“减少假消息的传播”。结合语境,故填help others avoid believing misinformation。

When you see a classmate who is well-dressed and speaks politely, are you more likely to think he is friendly and intelligent? This is called the halo (光环) effect. It’s like the bright halo around the moon, making it hard for us to see things clearly.
In 1920, an American psychologist (心理学家) did a famous study. He asked officers to score soldiers (士兵) on several qualities such as intelligence, physical ability, and leadership. The results showed that if an officer thought a soldier was “physically strong,” he would also give high scores to the soldier’s intelligence and leadership. Later, in another study, two groups of people were shown the same description of a person —Group 1: “intelligent, hard-working, thoughtless, stubborn (固执的)”; Group 2: “stubborn, thoughtless, hard-working, intelligent”. People in Group 1 generally considered the person as “positive” while Group 2 saw him as “troublesome.”
The halo effect is a kind of cognitive bias (认知偏见). It means that when we judge others, we often let one strength or weakness “spread out” and affect our judgement of all their qualities. That’s because our brain likes to take shortcuts instead of collecting full information. We easily judge everything about someone just by one or two clear characteristics. The halo effect influences our daily life a lot, like making friends, shopping choices and self-evaluation (自我评价).
The halo effect itself is neither right nor wrong. The key point is how we use it. We must think carefully before making decisions. When making friends or choosing products, think more instead of judging too quickly. At the same time, we should pay attention to creating a nice first impression (印象) on others in social situations by having a good look or a polite attitude.
The passage mainly talks about the halo effect—we are so focused on one or two qualities of persons or things that we can hardly 1 , which is shown in a famous study. In a later study, after changing the order of the descriptive words of a person, 2 because of the halo effect. The reason for it is that our brain is too lazy to see the whole picture and it 3 to our everyday life. At last, to make good use of it, the writer suggests that 4 .
【答案】1.make correct overall judgments 2.people drew different conclusions 3.makes a big difference 4.we think twice and make good first impressions
【导语】本文主要讲了光环效应的定义、相关研究、产生原因、影响及建议。
1.倒数第二段提到“The halo effect is a kind of cognitive bias (认知偏见). It means that when we judge others, we often let one strength or weakness ‘spread out’ and affect our judgement of all their qualities.”,光环效应会让人难以对事物做出正确的整体判断,make correct overall judgments“做出正确的整体判断”,情态动词后加动词原形。
2.第二段提到“People in Group 1 generally considered the person as ‘positive’ while Group 2 saw him as ‘troublesome’.”,改变描述词的顺序后,人们对同一个人得出了不同的结论,句子用一般过去时,people drew different conclusions“人们得出不同的结论”。
3.第三段提到“The halo effect influences our daily life a lot”,光环效应对我们的日常生活有很大影响/很重要,句子用一般现在时,主语是it,谓语动词用三单,即makes a big difference。
4.最后一段提到“We must think carefully before making decisions. When making friends or choosing products, think more instead of judging too quickly.”,作者建议我们在做决定前要三思/不要急于下判断,即we think twice and make good first impressions。

Recently, the phrase “Ai Ni Lao Ji” has been everywhere on Chinese social media. At first glance (乍一看), it might seem like a simple greeting, but it is actually a clever pun (俏皮话). It takes the structure of “Love you, Mom. See you tomorrow!” and simply changes “Mom” to “Lao Ji,” a playful term for oneself. In short, it’s a warm reminder to love ourselves.
The phrase has become popular because it fills an emotional gap in our lives. Growing up in Chinese culture, we are often taught to care for others first and find it hard to express love, especially to ourselves. We might stay up late to finish a group project but receive no recognition, or we try to please everyone at a party but end up feeling empty. In such moments, saying “Ai Ni Lao Ji” becomes a way to comfort ourselves. It turns small daily moments—like enjoying a cup of coffee or a home-cooked meal—into acts of self-kindness. By calling ourselves “Old Self,” we speak to ourselves with the same gentleness we would offer a close friend.
Psychologists call this self-compassion. However, some disagree. They argue that it leads people to be less active. But a study had a different result. Researchers gave students a difficult test. They found that those who were kind to themselves spent more time preparing for the next one. In fact, self-compassion helps lower stress and build self-confidence. When we treat ourselves kindly, we get through difficult times faster and gain the courage to try again.
So, next time life gets busy, just whisper “Ai Ni Lao Ji,” enjoy our favorite milk tea, or just give each other a hug. These are simple and don’t cost us anything, yet they bring inner peace. Remember, to truly care for others, we must first be kind to ourselves.
Recently, “Ai Ni Lao Ji” has become popular online. It is a playful and warm pun to 1 . It meets people’s emotional needs because 2 in Chinese culture. Psychologists call this self-compassion. Studies show that 3 . When life is busy, simple acts like whispering “Ai Ni Lao Ji” 4 but bring inner peace and remind us to love ourselves first.
【答案】1.remind us to love ourselves 2.we struggle to show self-love 3.self-compassion lowers stress and builds confidence 4.cost nothing
1.文章第一段“In short, it’s a warm reminder to love ourselves.”表明“Ai Ni Lao Ji”是一个提醒我们爱自己的俏皮而温暖的双关语,所以第一空应填“remind us to love ourselves”。
2.文章第二段“Growing up in Chinese culture, we are often taught to care for others first and find it hard to express love, especially to ourselves.”表明在中国文化中,我们很难表达自我关爱,所以它满足了人们的情感需求,因此第二空应填“we struggle to show self-love”。
3.文章第三段“In fact, self-compassion helps lower stress and build self-confidence.”表明研究表明自我怜悯有助于减轻压力和建立自信,所以第三空应填“self-compassion lowers stress and builds confidence”。
4.文章最后一段“These are simple and don’t cost us anything, yet they bring inner peace.”表明当生活忙碌时,像轻声说“Ai Ni Lao Ji”这样简单的行为不会花费我们什么,所以第四空应填“cost nothing”。

People often think that success is the result of talent or luck, but in reality, daily routines (惯例) play a key role in shaping our lives. From how we start our mornings to how we spend our evenings, routines can have a big effect on our efficiency (效率), mental health, and physical health.
One of the biggest benefits of having a routine is increased efficiency. When we have a set timetable, we waste less time deciding what to do next. For example, people who follow a morning routine—such as waking up at the same time, exercising, and eating a healthy breakfast—often feel more energetic and prepared for the day. On the other hand, those who wake up without a plan may feel rushed, making it harder to focus on important tasks.
Another advantage of routines is their ability to reduce worry. Uncertainty can make people feel quite worried, but a predictable routine gives a sense of control. For example, students who create a study timetable and stick to it are likely to feel more prepared before exams.
Besides improving efficiency and reducing worry, routines can also lead to better health. Many people have trouble with unhealthy habits, such as eating unhealthy food or spending too much time on screens. By building positive routines, such as preparing balanced meals, setting limits on screen time, and sticking to a workout routine, people can build healthier lifestyles.
However, not all routines are the same in their benefits. Some people can fall into strict routines. For example, if someone follows this kind of timetable without allowing time for relaxation, he may feel trapped. To create a routine that truly benefits us, it’s important to find a balance between order and flexibility (灵活性).

Reading Report
Hello, everybody. Today I want to share an article that teaches us to 1 . By doing so, students 2 and get a more lively and fresher experience. Many travel lovers find it hard to show the surprise they get and the beauty they see with photos. Besides, people can get help from the real experience in many ways.
Emotional consumption, such as 1 , going to concerts or cat cafes, buying game skins and using reed diffusers, is very popular among young people. It not only helps them relax under pressure, 2 . What’s more, it brings comfort and supports (cultural industries, with a huge market size). However, the problems also exist.
People follow experts’ suggestions, but problems still appear. However, a study shows that 3 to solve the problems.

Moreover, people should design their own routines. What works for one person may not work for another. Some people feel more productive (富有成效的) in the morning, while others do their best work at night. The key is to discover which habits and timetables make us feel happier, healthier, and more productive.
In short, routines are not about strictly doing the same thing without change. Instead, they are tools that help people stay organized. By designing a routine that supports our goals, we can make our daily lives easier and more enjoyable.
