Passage 1
When autumn comes, you may find many people on the street wearing brown clothes. This is a new fashion style called “Maillard style” (美拉德风格).
This dressing style got ideas from cooking. Have you ever watched your mom or dad cooking steak (牛排)? The steak turns from red to brown. In 1912, French scientist Maillard found the reason behind the change. People named this brown colour after the scientist. The Maillard style includes different kinds of browns, such as the red brown and the dark brown. These brown colors make people think of hot, tasty food. They can feel warmer on cold days.
If you think brown looks a little boring, you can try another style called “dopamine dressing” (多巴胺穿搭). It is one of the most popular fashion styles for 2023. First created by American fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen in 2020, it means dressing in bright colors. Dopamine is a chemical (化学物质) which can make you feel happy. And bright colors, such as red and yellow, can cheer you up.
Some bright colors may not go well with each other. To play it safe, you can try not to mix too many colors at a time or you can add some white or gray to your dressing.

Passage 2
Some people might think that young people are too young to know what they want. But people like Lu Kaigang prove them all wrong.
Lu, 23, a fashion model from China, grew up walking the roads in rural Guangxi. Now, he walks on some of the largest fashion catwalks(T台)in the world.
He found his interest when he was young. “I have had a supermodel dream since I was 10 while I was still in primary school. I saw a fashion show on TV and I felt it was so cool to do that on the runway,” Lu said. Although Lu didn’t have much money or any professional training, that didn’t stop him from chasing his dream. About one year later, Lu’s hard work paid off and he became an online star. He’s not just your common model. His one-of-a-kind clothes show off his talent and creativity, and his videos are mostly filmed on village dirty roads, adding a special and fresh background.

Passage 3
In the hall of the Luoyang Museum, a special fashion show took place. Models wore traditional Chinese clothes and makeup from different dynasties when Luoyang was the capital, bringing the audience back to the glory days(光辉岁月)of the city.
This show is a part of the second season of the cultural reality show The Shape of Culture. Following its first season, the 12-episode show introduces 10 UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Lushan National Park, and another two sites on the waiting list for World Heritage status(地位), like the Central Axis of Beijing(北京中轴线).
To balance public entertainment and academic accuracy(学术准确度),the show formed a host group of one expert and three actors. Shan Jixiang, the former director of the Palace Museum, leads Zhou Yun, Xiao Yang and Niu Junfeng to explore the sites. In each episode, they are joined by other experts and local people.
The latest technologies and different kinds of art are also used to introduce the sites. “Through these artistic events we ‘wake up’ our heritage and let young people take part,”said the production team.

Whenever Meng Ying, a 24-year-old Beijing girl, wears hanfu, she will draw a lot of attention. And she loves it. “It has never failed to turn heads and some warm strangers would even come and take photos with me, especially when I hang out with my friends,” says Meng.
Hanfu generally refers to clothing of the Han people before the Manchus (满族) controlled the Qing Dynasty. The traditional costume often features a long flowing robe (长袍) with loose sleeves that hang down to the knees and a belt at the waist.
In recent years, hanfu has become more and more popular in China. Meng tried on hanfu when she visited the Palace Museum about four years ago, after she found the trend catching on in scenic sites across the capital. “It looked refreshing and carried a sense of ritual (仪式)—kind of a tribute (敬意) to history, especially against the right background.” she says.
As Meng’s interest in the historical clothes grew, she lost herself into related (相关的) cultural elements and joined a few interest groups. “It’s interesting to see people discussing hanfu and some of them even greet each other in the old-fashioned way on the streets.” Meng says.
According to a Guangzhou-based market company, China’s hanfu market has been growing rapidly. The number of hanfu fans is expected to reach 6.89 million this year, and market sales to hit at least 10.16 billion yuan ($1.58 billion).
A report showed that female consumers (消费者) born after 1995 made up the biggest consumer group of hanfu in 2019. Some people might think that young people are too young to know what they want. But people like Lu Kaigang prove them all wrong.
