Section Ⅲ Using language 语法项目——表语从句 语境中体悟 Influenced by his father, who was a historian, Sima Qian took an interest in history when he was a child.He learnt Chinese classics from great literary masters, and at the age of 20, he began travelling extensively across the country.Learning and travelling were exactly ①what helped him in his later career as a historian. His father's dream was ②that one day he could write a great masterpiece recording what had happened in history.After his father died, Sima Qian succeeded his father as Grand Historian, which facilitated his access to official books and files.However, his work proved difficult.That's ③because sorting out all the available resources and checking facts of historical materials required painstaking efforts.His chief concern was ④whether he could do his job more effectively and efficiently.As he carried on with his work, something awful happened to Sima Qian.He was put in prison, but he was not defeated.After more than ten years of hard work, Shi Ji, his masterpiece, was completed. [语法入门] ①连接代词what引导表语从句,在从句中作主语; ②从属连词that引导表语从句,在从句中不作成分; ③从属连词because引导表语从句,并在从句中作状语; ④从属连词whether引导表语从句,在从句中不作成分,表示“是否”。 学案中理清 在主从复合句中充当表语的从句叫做表语从句,它常位于系动词之后,用来说明主语是什么或怎么样。 一、引导表语从句的常见连接词 常见的有连接代词 who, which, whatever 等,连接副词 how, why, whenever 等,从属连词 as if, that, whether, because等。 1.that引导表语从句 that引导表语从句时仅起连接作用,无任何意义,在从句中不作任何成分,通常不可省略。 The trouble is that she has lost his address. 麻烦的是她弄丢了他的地址。 2.whether引导表语从句 whether引导表语从句时起连接作用,意为“是否”,但在从句中不作任何成分。 The question remains whether they will be able to help us. 问题还是他们是否会帮我们。 [名师点津]  if不能引导表语从句。 3.连接代词引导表语从句 连接代词what, who, whom ,whose, which等引导表语从句时,除了在句中起连接作用外,在从句中还可充当主语、表语、宾语等成分。 The problem is who is really fit for the hard job. 问题是谁才真正适合做这份艰苦的工作。 4.连接副词引导表语从句 连接副词where, when, why, how等引导表语从句时,除了在句中起连接作用外,在从句中还分别充当地点、时间、原因或方式状语。 The problem is how we can find him. 问题是我们如何找到他。 That's where you are wrong. 那就是你不对的地方。 5.because, as if/as though等引导表语从句 because引导的表语从句常见于“This/That/It is/was because ...”句型中。as if/as though引导的表语从句常置于系动词look, seem, sound, be, become等后面。 That's because you can't appreciate music. 那是因为你不会欣赏音乐。 It sounds as if someone is knocking at the door. 听起来好像有人在敲门。 [对点练] (用适当的连接词填空) ①China is no longer what it used to be. ②The question is whether the film is worth seeing. ③Now it seems as_though/if she had known Millie for years. ④(2025·全国Ⅰ卷)Although these campaigns were widespread, the reality is that the majority of the western cities were completely redesigned around the needs of the motor car. ⑤(2024·全国甲卷)The only opportunity (机会) she could seize to study was when her brother was having Chinese lessons with the family tutor. 二、表语从句的注意事项 1.why和because引导的表语从句的区别 That's why ... 意为“那是……的原因”,强调结果 That's because ... 意为“那是因为……”,强调原因 I didn't phone her, and that's why she got angry with me.(强调“生气”这一结果) 我没有给她打电话。那就是她对我生气的原因。 I didn't phone her, and that's because I got angry with her.(强调“生气”这一原因) 我没有给她打电话。那是因为我生她的气。 2.reason作主语时的表语从句 主句主语为名词reason时,表语从句中的连接词要用that,而不能用why或because。 The reason for such a serious accident is that the driver was too careless. (发生)一起如此严重的事故的原因是司机太粗心。 3.表语从句中的虚拟语气 在表语从句中,表示间接的命令、要求、请求、建议、决定等时,主句中的主语通常是:advice, suggestion, proposal, request, order, idea等,从句谓语用“should+动词原形”,should可以省略,但不可换成would。 My suggestion is that we (should) start out early tomorrow. 我的建议是我们明天早点出发。 4.系动词+表语从句 可用于表语从句的系动词有以下三种: (1)状态系动词:be动词, seem, appear, remain等; (2)感官系动词:look, smell, taste, sound, feel等; (3)变化系动词:become, get, turn, grow, fall, come等。 It looks as if it is going to rain. 看起来似乎要下雨了。 It sounds as if you are from the south of the United States. 听起来你好像来自美国南部。 [对点练] (完成句子) ①His suggestion is that we_(should)_do_our_work_more_carefully. 他的建议就是我们做工作要更细心些。 ②Their idea is that they_(should)_build_a_new_factory in their hometown. 他们的想法就是在家乡建一座新工厂。 ③(2025·全国Ⅰ卷写作)This is why_I_firmly_choose “Fun at my school” — it can not only showcase the vibrant campus life but also inspire students to discover the charm hidden in daily study. 这就是我坚定选择“校园趣事”的原因 —— 它不仅能展示充满活力的校园生活,还能激发同学们去发现日常学习中隐藏的魅力。 ④(2025·北京高考写作)I suggest proposing a proposal about environmental protection because_environmental_issues_are_becoming_increasingly_severe_globally_ and immediate actions are urgently needed. 我建议提出一个关于环境保护的倡议,因为全球环境问题日益严峻,迫切需要立即行动。 应用中融通 Ⅰ.用恰当的连接词填空 1.The reason for his absence is that he hasn't been informed. 2.The point is whether we should lend him the money. 3.The problem is who called us yesterday. 4.(2024·新高考Ⅱ卷)This is why Campbell has set out to raise awareness of AI and its future now ... 5.The last time we had great fun was when we were visiting the Water Park. 6.By boat is the only way to get here, which is how we arrived. 7.Without his support, we wouldn't be what we are now. 8.A ship in harbour is safe, but that's not what ships are built for. 9.When a pencil is partly put into water, it looks as_if it were broken. 10.My advice is that you practise speaking English as often as possible.
