In an English class, the teacher asked students to have a discussion about the development of robots. Some students shared their ideas about the robots that had performed in the 2026 Spring Festival Gala.
David: I am excited about the robot kung fu show named WuBOT. The robots move in a perfect order and perform Drunken Fist (醉拳) very well with some teenage performers. The robot show helps to spread traditional culture and means technology is developing fast in China. China is truly stronger in the world.
Anna: The robots can talk as real people usually do and act with actors in the show Grandma’s Favorite. But I know that even the best robots will never take the place of our family members. They can suggest what we should do, but they cannot give us real love. The warmth from our family is unique
Jack: How well the robots move in the show Smart Creation for the Future! They can do difficult actions like spinning (旋转) 360 degrees. This kind of robots can help disabled people walk again and help workers do dangerous or hard work, which brings people new hopes and changes.
Cindy: I like the film-like interactive (互动的) performance in the show My Most Unforgettable Night best. Robots can make their own decisions instead of just following orders. I believe robots and people can get along well. In the future, robots will make our daily life more convenient and happier.

(Characters: S—Scarlett; R—Rhett; P—Prissy; M—Melanie; G—Gerald, Scarlett’s father)
Scene One
When Scarlett lived in Atlanta, Melanie gave birth to a little boy. But the Yankees (北军) would come into the city soon. Scarlett wanted to go back to Tara, her home, where she was born and raised there. She could not think of any way except asking Rhett for help.
R: Good evening, Scarlett. Fine weather we are having. I hear you are going to take a trip.
S: If you make any jokes, I shall never speak to you again.
R: Don’t tell me you are scared!
S: Yes, I am. I’m scared to death and we must get out of here. I am going home.
R: Home? You mean to Tara?
S: Yes, yes! To Tara! Oh, Rhett, we must hurry!
R: Tara? My God, Scarlett! The Yankees may be all over by Tara by now. You can’t go home!
S: I will go home! I will! I will! You can’t stop me! I will go home! I want my mother! I will kill you if you try to stop me! If I have to walk every step of the way!
R: There, there, darling. Don’t cry. You shall go home, my brave little girl.
Scene TwoRhett carried weak Melanie onto the wagon (马车) and they got out of town secretly.
R: We are out of town now, but the road to Tara is too dangerous. Do you know any other road, small wagon roads that only a small number of people know?
S: Yes. I know a wagon road. Papa and I used to ride it and that’s only a mile from Tara.
R: Good. Then I am leaving you here.
S: Leaving us? Where—where are you going?
R: I am going, dear girl, with the army. Our South army needs every man to beat the north army. I’m off to the wars.
S: Go! Go now! I want you to hurry. I don’t want to ever see you again. I hope cannon (大炮) balls will land right on you. I hope it blows you to a million pieces. How can you do this to me, leaving us here, alone, helpless, with the Yankees around!
R: I’m not asking you to understand or forgive. I love you, Scarlett, because we are so much alike, strong, smart, selfish! But I must go, for the land we love. This time I can’t be selfish!
Scene Three
After Scarlett and everyone managed to reach Tara at night, which she had thought it must be that beautiful home, sweet home, with mom, dad and her sisters around. However, there was no light anywhere.
S: Mother! Mother! Father! Sisters, come out. I’m back.
G: Daughter! My dear daughter! Your mother—Your mother died yesterday. The girls are getting better. They nearly died! (There seemed something wrong with Gerald. He said it over and over like a parrot that knew only one expression.) She died yesterday—She died yesterday—She died yesterday …
S: (After a little while of sadness, she found everyone was weak or broke down.) I would think of Mother later. I must put her out of my mind now, or I would be crazy like Father. I can’t break down. Tara needs me. The whole family needs me. After all, tomorrow is another day!

Part 1①You climb up the slide and sit down.
You are ready to go. Are you sliding down? No, not yet. Things stay still unless something makes them ______. It is Newton’s first law. So you have to give yourself a push to start the journey down.
②Now you are sliding down.
Do you feel you are slowing down a bit? When two things rub (摩擦) against each other, they cause friction (摩擦力). Without friction, you will slide down faster and faster to the bottom. That is fun, but dangerous.
③At the bottom of the slide, you come to a full stop. Your feet touch the ground and add extra friction. Newton’s first law also says moving things keep moving unless something makes them stop. If you do not use your feet, you’ll fly off the slide.

For millions of years, humans are using natural resources, such as hunting animals for food and using wood to create shelter. As a result, biodiversity (生物多样性) is being lost at a rapid speed and pollution is harming the earth. Now we need to act fast to change the things.
However, the present laws are not working. So the Rights of Nature (RoN) program goes further. It aims to give legal rights (法律权利) to wildlife and nature, treating them as persons. Some believe this is useful to reduce humans’ harm to nature. However, some people argue that it’s useless because it can’t be put into real use. So what do you think? Should we give nature legal rights?
Group Yes●After all, humans create these problems. That means it’s our work to fix (修复) it.
●The RoN program can offer a stronger way of dealing with the difficult situation.
●The RoN program places humans in the web of life, with wildlife and nature-equal (平等的) to them, not above.
Group No●As the cleverest beings on Earth, it’s humans’ job to protect it, so nature doesn’t need legal rights.
●A tree can’t talk in a court (法庭) of law. Giving the same rights to nature might sound good but it wouldn’t work in practice.
●It would be far better to perfect present laws than to give nature legal rights.
1.What should humans take action to do according to Paragraph 1?
A.increase natural resources. B.Hunt animals for food.
C.Create more shelter. D.Change the present situation.
2.Which of the following can best match the aim of the RoN program?
A. B. C. D.
3.What can we learn according to Group No?
A.Humans need more legal rights than nature.
B.Planting more trees can be more helpful.
C.It won’t be practical to give nature legal rights.
D.The present laws are perfect enough to help the earth.
4.What opinion do the two groups have in common (共同点)?
A.It’s necessary to treat nature as persons.
B.Humans are smarter than wildlife and nature.
C.It’s humans’ duty to fix and protect our planet.
D.Humans have succeeded in solving the problems.
5.What is the text mainly about?
A.Ways of protecting biodiversity. B.Opinions on legal rights of nature.
C.Effects of many kinds of pollution. D.Causes of environmental problems.
Do-it-yourself crystal
You can grow crystals (晶体) using bicarbonate of soda (小苏打). The experiment shows you how.
1. Fill two jars with hot water. Stir about six teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda into each jar. Keep adding more bicarbonate of soda until no more will dissolve.
2. Put the jars in a warm place with a plate in between them. Make sure they won’t get moved.
3. Cut a piece of wool as long as your arm. Tie a paperclip (回形针) to each end of it, and place one end in each jar.
4. Leave the jars for at least a week. Crystals should grow gradually along the wool, and hang down over the plate.
What’s happening?
Bicarbonate of soda is usually sold as a powder (粉末) made up of tiny crystals. The powder dissolves in water, which means the powder becomes mixed with water and disappears. The mixture of water and soda is soaked up (吸收) by the wool that ties the jars together. The water then evaporates (蒸发) slowly, leaving behind pure bicarbonate of soda—which reforms into big crystals.
1.In this experiment, you may need some containers (容器) like ________.
①two jars ②a plate ③a piece of wool ④a paperclip
A.①③ B.②④ C.①② D.③④
2.One end of the wool is placed in each jar so as to ________ the mixture.
A.soak up B.leave behind C.cool down D.hang down
3.After reading the passage, we can learn that ________.
A.only six teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda are needed
B.two jars should be put in a cool place with a plate in between them
C.leave the jars for at least seven days, then you may see the crystals
D.no crystals may hang down over the plate because they have disappeared

Everyone that is coming to the party will be given a role and the role’s script (剧本). So, if you decide to join us, you will have to prepare a costurme for your role. For example, if you play a waitress, you’ll have to dress up as a waitress to the party and then talk to the other people playing roles according to the script. During the party, you’ll join us in finding out who took away the queen’s ring.
The party will be held at Jade Hotel at 7 p.m. on June 2nd. Lots of delicious foods and drinks will be prepared, so there’s no need to worry about getting hungry or thirsty. Please tell us if you’d like to join the party before-the end of this month.
Best wishes

Today, science is an interesting and simple subject. We can find it in our life. Next week, our school will start an activity to explore science behind life.
Part 2
Question:
How to put an egg into a small bottle?
Steps:
Light a fire.
Put the fire into the bottle.
Shake the bottle to make it warm enough.
Put the egg in the opening of the bottle.

The air in the bottle gets bigger after putting the fire.
1.What is/are the best word(s) to be put in “______”?
A.stop B.move C.fly off D.change direction
2.Which one is true according to the passage?
A.Only when you climb up the slide and give yourself a push, can you slide down.
B.Newton’s first law says moving things keep moving all the time.
C.We should shake the bottle to make it a little cool so that we can put an egg in the bottle.
D.The air in the bottle gets smaller after lighting the fire.
3.Where can we find this passage?
A.A science magazine. B.A newspaper. C.A novel. D.A school board.

2.①处提到“So you have to give yourself a push to start the journey down.”,说明只有自己推一下才能开始下滑,与A选项表述一致。
3.文章开头提到“Next week, our school will start an activity to explore science behind life.”,说明我们可以在学校公告栏上看到这篇文章。
根据第一段“As a result, biodiversity (生物多样性) is being lost at a rapid speed and pollution is harming the earth. Now we need to act fast to change the things.”
根据第二段“It aims to give legal rights (法律权利) to wildlife and nature, treating them as persons.”
根据表格中“Giving the same rights to nature might sound good but it wouldn’t work in practice.”
根据表格中“After all, humans create these problems. That means it’s our work to fix (修复) it.”和“As the cleverest beings on Earth, it’s humans’ job to protect it, so nature doesn’t need legal rights.”
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.C
2.定位到原文实验原理部分“The mixture of water and soda is soaked up by the wool tied the jars together.”
