One Saturday in April, Ai Xiao, a 28-year-old Beijing nine-to-fiver, went by herself to a park near her apartment and lay on the grass, which she had hardly done before.
Being comforted by the warm sunshine, the sound of birds chirping, and the fresh, sweet smell of grass, she felt an immediate coziness and sense of well-being.
This joyful experience entered Ai’s life through a research finding that recently became popular on Chinese social media: spending just 20 minutes in an urban park (城市公园) helps to increase emotional well-being. Now the 20-minute park effect has caused a trend (潮流) of hanging out in parks, especially for nine-to-fivers who are under stress from work and life and eager to refresh their body and mind.
Urban parks are key neighborhood places that provide people with opportunities to experience nature and engage in outdoor activities. Through contact with the natural environment and engagement in activities in parks, users experience physical and mental health benefits such as stress reduction and recovery from mental tiredness.
Parks are also home to scenes and activities unique to China. For example, seniors practicing their tai chi skills; music lovers livestreaming (直播) themselves singing; groups of retirees performing square dancing; bands performing Chinese operas with traditional musical instruments.
“Seeing all those people enjoying life in the beautiful parks, you can’t help being affected by the positive spirit,” Ai said. “It’s pretty easy to find a park in Beijing. It’s like exchanging just 20 minutes of my time for a more chilled-out me in the rest of the day.”
In recent years, many cities across the country have started greening initiatives (倡议). In 2023, China built 4,100 pocket parks and over 5,300 km of green-ways. Pocket parks, or small urban parks, that are created in small, often irregular-shaped, underused spaces within a city, are designed to serve the neighborhood and meet the recreational (消遣的) needs of local people.
“As parks become more convenient, I believe more people will visit and enjoy them, and grow their love for nature and all the creatures in it,” Ai concluded.
1.What did Ai Xiao do on a Saturday in April?
2.What has the 20-minute park effect caused?
3.Why are pocket parks designed?
4.What activities would you like to do in pocket parks? Why?(Give at least two reasons.)

Are you tired of feeling anxious (焦虑的) when faced with challenging situations or high-pressure tasks? Do you wish you could perform at your best, even in the most stressful environments? If you practice how to remain calm under pressure, you can manage stress better and perform better in work and life.
The Yerkes-Dodson curve explains the relationship between stress and performance. The big idea of it is that people perform better at medium levels of stress. It highlights the importance of stress management techniques (技巧) and finds ways to control and manage stress levels to avoid negative effects on performance. Imagine stress on a scale of 1-10, where 1 is low and 10 is high. If stress is in the mid-range, say 5, 6, or 7, you can perform better.
That means when you feel your stress is too low, you need to turn it up. And when your stress is too high, you need to turn it down.
How can you lower your level of stress if it’s too high? Practicing mindfulness is a technique that can help lower your level of stress and build your awareness, enabling you to react more effectively to stressors. Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment. You can become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. This increased awareness allows you to choose suitable techniques to manage stress. For example, if you notice your mind starting to race or become fixed on negative thoughts, you can change your focus and calm your mind. Also, if you notice discomfort in your body, you can use physical techniques such as deep breathing or stretching to calm your body down.
If your level of stress is too low, you can learn how to raise it to perform better. You can try techniques such as goal setting and positive self-talk. For example, if you want to improve your running performance, set a goal to run a certain distance or time within a specific (特定的) period. When preparing for the running event, use positive self-talk such as “I have trained hard for this, and I can achieve my goal.”
By practicing these techniques and focusing on what you can control, you can unlock your full potential (潜能) and perform at your best, even in the most challenging situations.
1.What is the big idea of the Yerkes-Dodson curve?
2.What are the benefits of practicing mindfulness?
3.According to the passage, how can you raise your level of stress if it is too low?
4.From 1-10, what stress level do you often experience? Please explain what you can do to lower, keep or raise your level.

Should We Have a Weekly Screen-free Day?
Have you ever asked someone a question, but they didn’t reply because they were looking at their phone or tablet (平板电脑)? Or maybe you planned to play a game online for just 10 minutes, but when you checked the time, hours have passed. People are using technology more than ever before. That’s why the charity Fairplay wants people to really think about how much time they spend using digital devices, like smartphones, tablets or computers. Fairplay wants people to devote (留出) one day a week to living without screens. It says that this will help people “take the time we need to focus on our families and our well-being”.
Is this realistic (现实可行的) now? And what if using screens makes you happier? What do you think? Should people have one screen-free day a week?
Some people think that we are spending too much time online, which can be really bad for our health. Studies have shown that it can affect our sleep. It also makes it harder for young people to focus for a long time. Even though technology is an important part of people’s lives, so is free time. Less time spent online means more time to live in the real world. Whether it’s playing sports, painting or reading a book, a day offline would help people focus on their hobbies. Hobbies can make people feel more rested and relaxed.
Having one screen-free day a week would also bring families together. Screens can take away the quality time they spend with loved ones and can even cause arguments. A day without screens is a simple idea that the whole family can follow.
But some people have different ideas. They think instead of banning (禁止) technology for one day a week, we should pay more attention to how often we’re online and how it makes us feel. Scrolling (滑动浏览) on social media can make us feel like we’re missing out, while receiving a funny dog video from a friend can make us feel happy right now. In fact, research has shown that screen time can improve young people’s education and development.
It’s also unrealistic to spend a whole day offline—people depend on digital devices to keep in touch. It’s not wise, either. What if we’re in an emergency and need to reach someone? Surely, it’s better to take short breaks every day and turn screens off during mealtimes and an hour or two before bed. A healthy balance is what we should aim for.
1.What does the charity Fairplay want people to really think about?
2.What does “less time spent online” mean?
3.What do some people think we should do instead of banning technology for one day a week?
4.Would you like to have one screen-free day a week? Why or why not? (Please give at least two reasons.)
【答案】1.How much time they spend using digital devices, like smartphones, tablets or computers. 2.Less time spent online means more time to live in the real world. 3.We should pay more attention to how often we’re online and how it makes us feel. 4.Yes, because it helps focus on hobbies and improves family time.
【导语】本文围绕“是否应该设立每周无屏幕日”展开讨论,分别列举了支持与反对的观点及理由。
1.根据“That’s why the charity Fairplay wants people to really think about how much time they spend using digital devices, like smartphones, tablets or computers.”可知,Fairplay关注的是人们对电子设备的使用时长。故填How much time they spend using digital devices, like smartphones, tablets or computers.
2.根据“Less time spent online means more time to live in the real world.”可知,减少上网时间意味着更多时间生活在现实世界中。故填Less time spent online means more time to live in the real world.
3.根据“They think instead of banning (禁止) technology for one day a week, we should pay more attention to how often we’re online and how it makes us feel”可知,我们应更关注上网频率及其对情绪的影响。故填We should pay more attention to how often we’re online and how it makes us feel.
4.开放性试题,言之有理即可,参考答案:Yes, because it helps focus on hobbies and improves family time.

Walking Barefoot
Barefoot walking has a long history and we can’t say it was started by just one person. In 2009, Christopher McDougall published the book Barn to Run, which tells the story of the Tarahumara people in Mexico who run long distances barefoot. George Woodville is called “Barefoot Guy” on social media. He shares his barefoot experiences with strangers online. Many people liked his videos and tried walking barefoot.
World Barefoot Day is on the first Saturday of June every year. This day encourages people to walk without shoes. The aim is to make more people know about poor children who can’t afford shoes. Some groups also start activities to collect and give away shoes and money.
If you want to try walking barefoot, you can practise at home or in a safe place. Make sure to check your feet for cuts after each walk and keep your feet clean.
Walking barefoot can offer surprising health benefits. Taking time each day to walk barefoot or step outside and put your feet in the grass can improve your physical and mental health.
Walking without shoes can strengthen the muscles of the feet. People who run without shoes usually have larger leg and foot muscles. What’s more, it helps us improve our balance and posture (体态). Walking barefoot is also good for our mental health.
While walking around barefoot can have many benefits and positive effects on your health, you have to remember that humans invented shoes for a reason. Sure, there are plenty of benefits to walking around barefoot some of the time, but that doesn’t mean that you should just throw away all of your shoes and go all natural all the time.
The most obvious reason for wearing shoes is to protect our feet from environments. Sometimes, we might step on something and get our feet cut. And walking barefoot in some public places may put us at risk of getting diseases like athlete’s foot. Also, if we’re not used to it, it might be a bit hard on our joints (关节). Although there are some risks, the benefits of walking barefoot are really amazing!

Aesha Ash spent most of her life ballet (芭蕾舞) dancing and even turned it into a career as a member of the New York City Ballet. As much as she loved to dance, she found the weight of her responsibility heavy because she was often the only African American ballerina (芭蕾舞女演员) in her classes and company.
After retiring (退休) from ballet in 2007, Aesha enjoyed the quiet life for more than ten years before she decided to come back to ballet, but in a completely new way. She started The Swan Dreams Project that helps kids in poor areas get into the world of ballet.
Aesha set up a one-week camp that invited kids to not only learn the basics of ballet, but also get an introduction to French (since she says it is “the language of ballet”).
Her first camp was in 2018 in a poor neighborhood in New York. When she arrived she was greeted by dozens of students, most of whom were African Americans. She wanted to help kids who otherwise might not have ever had the chance to live in the world of ballet.
On the final day of camp, after a week of learning, the students put on a final performance for their family and friends. Before the performance, Aesha said she was nervous that it would be less of a performance and more of a mess, since the campers were all between 8 and 11 years old. Much to her surprise, it turned out to be perfect. She said, “When we went out to our first circle and the kids began counting in French and performing the steps they had just learned, my heart melted.”
Aesha continues to do whatever she can to help kids learn ballet. She found a way to turn that seemingly unbearable weight she once carried around into something good for kids, as well as for the world of ballet.
1.What did Aesha do before she retired?
2.Where did Aesha set up her first ballet camp?
3.Why was Aesha nervous before the final performance?
4.Suppose you are Aesha in the passage, what will you do after retiring? Please list two things and give the reasons separately.
【答案】1.She was a ballet dancer and a member of the New York City Ballet. 2.In a poor neighborhood in New York. 3.Because she thought the campers were all between 8 and 11 years old and the performance might be a mess. 4.First, I would expand “The Swan Dreams Project” to more countries. Because Aesha’s goal was to make ballet accessible to underprivileged kids. Expanding globally aligns with her mission to break racial and economic barriers in ballet. Second, I would publish a memoir about my career to inspire future dancers. Because her unique experience as a rare African American ballerina could motivate others to pursue ballet despite challenges.
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了Aesha Ash的芭蕾舞生涯以及她退休后如何通过创办“天鹅梦想计划”来帮助贫困地区的孩子接触芭蕾舞的故事。
1.根据“Aesha Ash spent most of her life ballet (芭蕾舞) dancing and even turned it into a career as a member of the New York City Ballet.”可知,Aesha退休前是一名芭蕾舞演员,并且是纽约市芭蕾舞团的成员。故填She was a ballet dancer and a member of the New York City Ballet.
2.根据“Her first camp was in 2018 in a poor neighborhood in New York.”可知,Aesha的第一个芭蕾舞营地是在纽约的一个贫困社区设立的。故填In a poor neighborhood in New York.
3.根据“Before the performance, Aesha said she was nervous that it would be less of a performance and more of a mess, since the campers were all between 8 and 11 years old.”可知,Aesha在最后一场演出前感到紧张,是因为她担心演出会变得一团糟,因为参加营地的孩子们年龄都在8到11岁之间。故填Because she thought the campers were all between 8 and 11 years old and the performance might be a mess.
4.开放性作答,结合实际,言之有理即可。参考答案为First, I would expand “The Swan Dreams Project” to more countries.
Have you ever bought something without knowing what’s inside? That’s the fun of blind boxes—small, unopened packages that hide collectable toys or figures (人偶). You don’t know which one you’ll get until you open it. It’s just this kind of surprising joy that makes blind boxes so popular among teenagers and young adults.
Each blind box belongs to a themed series, such as lovely animals, cartoon characters, or cute food items. All the boxes look the same from the outside, but inside lies a surprise. Some figures are common, while others are uncommon and hard to find. Many collectors feel excited every time they open a box, hoping to get that special figure they’ve been searching for.
However, blind boxes are not just about the toys—they’re also about the experience. Collectors often meet and exchange figures in stores and share their excitement together. Some even record unboxing videos and post them on social media. For many, collecting blind boxes becomes a way to express creativity and personality. They decorate their rooms with their favorite figures, design small shelves for display, or use them in art projects. Through this shared interest, a small and friendly community is formed.
But the excitement can become addictive (上瘾的), which is the main problem of buying blind boxes. Since you never know what’s inside, it’s easy to keep buying “just one more” box, hoping to find the uncommon one. Some people end up spending more than they planned. That’s why it’s important to set a budget (预算) and always remind yourself that collecting should bring joy, not pressure and waste.
Blind boxes have become an important part of modern pop culture, combining (融合) art, design, and curiosity together in one small package. Whether you collect them or simply watch unboxing videos online, they remind us of the joy of discovery. Sometimes, the best part of life is the unknown— the little surprises waiting to be opened. As long as we open them with care, patience, and self-control, blind boxes can bring fun and creativity to our everyday lives.
1.What makes blind boxes popular among young adults?
2.According to the writer, what are blind boxes about?
3.What is the main problem of buying blind boxes?
4.Is it necessary to set a budget before buying blind boxes? Why? (Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.The surprising joy of not knowing which collectable toy or figure you’ll get until you open it. 2.They are not just about the toys, but also about the experience (of collecting, exchanging figures and sharing excitement with others). 3.The excitement can become addictive, and some people may end up spending more than they planned. 4.Yes, it is. First, because the excitement of buying blind boxes can be addictive, a budget can prevent people from spending more than they planned. Second, a budget helps make sure that collecting blind boxes brings joy rather than pressure and waste.
【导语】本文主要介绍了盲盒的流行原因、内涵与社交体验,同时指出盲盒容易让人上瘾的问题,并给出理性消费的建议,最后点明盲盒在现代流行文化中的意义。
1.根据第一段“It’s just this kind of surprising joy that makes blind boxes so popular among teenagers and young adults.”以及“You don’t know which one you’ll get until you open it.”可知,盲盒在年轻人中流行的原因是打开之前不知道会得到什么,这种意外的惊喜感吸引了他们。故填The surprising joy of not knowing which collectable toy or figure you’ll get until you open it.
2.根据第三段“However, blind boxes are not just about the toys—they’re also about the experience.”可知,盲盒不仅关乎玩具本身,也关乎收藏、交流与分享的体验。故填They are not just about the toys, but also about the experience (of collecting, exchanging figures and sharing excitement with others).
3.根据第四段“But the excitement can become addictive, which is the main problem of buying blind boxes.”以及“Some people end up spending more than they planned.”可知,购买盲盒的主要问题是这种兴奋感容易让人上瘾,导致人们超支消费。故填The excitement can become addictive, and some people may end up spending more than they planned.
4.根据第四段“That’s why it’s important to set a budget and always remind yourself that collecting should bring joy, not pressure and waste.”可知,有必要做预算,原因有二:①盲盒的兴奋感容易让人上瘾,预算能避免超支;②预算能确保收藏盲盒带来的是快乐而非压力与浪费。故填Yes, it is. First, because the excitement of buying blind boxes can be addictive, a budget can prevent people from spending more than they planned. Second, a budget helps make sure that collecting blind boxes brings joy rather than pressure and waste.

Imagine yourself sitting in a quiet reading corner at home, tuning out (不理睬) the world around you and lost in a story. You read the summary on the book cover, immediately get interested, and now you’re halfway through a super interesting book.
These days, paper books, e-books and audio books are three popular reading forms. And a hot discussion has started among readers: Does the way you read affect your experience of the book?
As we all know, reading is very good for us. It practises many functions of our brain, such as attention, reasoning, reading skills, memory and understanding. Reading can also help us improve our communication ability, expand our vocabulary, and even make us more emotionally intelligent and better at understanding others. No matter which reading way we choose, we can get these benefits.
Let’s first talk about reading with our eyes—paper books and e-books. They have a big advantage: helping us remember information better. When we see the words directly, we can pay closer attention to the content. What’s more, with paper books, it’s easy to look back to find parts we missed, especially when our minds wander, which is common for most readers. E-books are also convenient because they can store many books in one device, making it easy to read anywhere.
On the other hand, audio books have their own advantages. Put on your headphones, and you can escape from daily life. The story becomes vivid, just like watching a movie in your mind. From a scientific point of view, listening to audio books can help us feel more empathy. We can hear the narrator’s emotions, understand the tone and intonation better, and this uses different parts of our brain. It makes the story more interesting and imaginative, so we may enjoy it more. However, audio books also have a disadvantage: it’s harder to go back and listen to parts again if we miss something.
In conclusion, paper books, e-books and audio books all have their own advantages. Next time you want to read a book, why not think about which way suits you best? Choosing the right way to read can make your literary experience more wonderful.
1.What are the three popular reading forms these days?
2.What big advantage do paper books and e-books have?
3.What is the disadvantage of listening to audio books?
4.Which kind of books do you prefer to read, paper books, e-books or audio books? Why? (Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.Paper books, e-books, audio books. 2.Helping us remember information better. 3.It’s harder to go back and listen to parts again if we miss something. 4.I prefer to read paper books. First, they help me focus better on the content. Second, it’s easy to look back to find parts we missed.

3.根据第五段“However, audio books also have a disadvantage: it’s harder to go back and listen to parts again if we miss something.”可知,有声书也有一个缺点:如果我们遗漏了某些内容,就很难再回过头来重新聆听那些部分了。故填It’s harder to go back and listen to parts again if we miss something.
4.句意:您更喜欢阅读哪种类型的书籍?纸质书、电子书还是有声书?为什么?(请给出两个原因。) 开放性回答,合理即可。故填I prefer to read paper books. First, they help me focus better on the content. Second, it’s easy to look back to find parts we missed.

Some people think creativity is making something completely new, so they do not think of themselves as creative ones. However, some other people think creativity can just be expressing themselves through everyday acts and they are born creative because it is not an all-or-nothing quality or skill.
Whether or not we realize it, we all have the ability to express creativity. Sometimes the way to creative productivity is being willing to do something different.
Are you someone who loves to read comics? Perhaps it is time you create one of your own. Don’t worry if you cannot draw very well or feel that you cannot write humorous reports for characters. Nobody says this is an exam! You only have to please yourself, to gain the satisfaction that you try something new, all on your own. If you feel easy, you can of course share it with your loved ones, or post it on social media.
Are you someone who likes to express yourself in writing? Try writing a blog. This is a new form of a diary. In your blog, you can write about your thoughts, opinions and experiences. You can also write stories or plays, if you feel up to it! The blog provides you with a platform to create something new every day, in written forms.
Are you someone who likes to be alone? Now, think about the things that make you happy. Find a small place in your room, or any place in your home, where you can spend time with yourself. It can be a small corner next to your bed or a wall. It can be a poster of your favorite rock star or photos of your friends. You can also pick a guitar if you like to play instruments, or a few storybooks if you love reading. Some of you may like flowers, candles or pretty things. Decorate your area with your favorite things in any way you like. That is creativity! And if you do feel bored with this, you can change, add or remove something.

Today, social media influences how people shop. Unlike the traditional “influencing”, which encourages people to buy more, a new style is becoming more popular—deinfluencing. It means that content (内容) creators tell their followers not to buy some products. This change shows how people think about shopping is different now.
Deinfluencing is no accident. It’s a natural reaction to too many ads online. For over ten years, content creators have turned into influencers who made people buy too many things, which was a top marketing method back then. Some popular products were called “must-haves”. But a key problem has appeared: companies often force influencers to put ads in their videos and use editing (剪辑) to hide product problems. This has led to more and more people not trusting influencer-suggested products. A recent study shows that only 12% trust influencer-suggested products, while 42% regret buying them.
When prices rise, people usually shop more carefully and refuse to pay extra for “influencer names.” People also care more about the Earth. Making too many products hurts nature. Deinfluencing encourages people to buy what they really need, not what they just want. It tells them to pick things that last long and are good for the Earth.
For companies, it’s a good chance to make a positive change. A famous company received complaints about its “uncomfortable toothpaste”. To deal with the complaints, it didn’t hide the problem but started real-life testing and even added “bad product suggestions” to its product page, which got more attention. More and more companies plan to work with content creators who try the products themselves and share honest reviews. These creators are more trusted than those making perfect ads.
At heart, deinfluencing cleans up social media. It does not take away influencers’ power. Instead, it helps turn them from sellers into people we can trust. As experts say, “To be deinfluenced, one must first be influenced.” It helps people feel less stressed about what to buy. At the same time, only if a company is open and honest can it stay strong on social media. After all, good product quality speaks louder than any showy ads.
1.What does deinfluencing mean?
2.Why are more and more people not trusting influencer-suggested products?
3.How did the famous toothpaste company deal with the complaints?
4.What do you think of the deinfluencing? Why? (Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.It means that content creators tell their followers not to buy some products. 2.Because companies often force them to put ads in their videos and use editing to hide product problems. 3.It didn’t hide the problem but started real-life testing and even added “bad product suggestions” to its product page. 4.I think deinfluencing is positive. First, it helps people feel less stressed about what to buy. Second, it cleans up social media.
【导语】本文主要介绍反影响这一现象,说明其流行原因、对企业的影响,以及它能让人们理性消费、净化社交媒体的好处。
1.根据第一段“a new style is becoming more popular—deinfluencing. It means that content (内容) creators tell their followers not to buy some products.”可知,deinfluencing指的是内容创作者告诉他们的粉丝不要购买某些产品。故填It means that content creators tell their followers not to buy some products.
2.根据第二段“companies often force influencers to put ads in their videos and use editing (剪辑) to hide product problems. This has led to more and more people not trusting influencer-suggested products.”可知,越来越多的人不再相信网红推荐的产品,是因为企业常常强迫网红在他们的视频中插入广告,并通过剪辑手段掩盖产品存在的问题。故填Because companies often force them to put ads in their videos and use editing to hide product problems.
3.根据倒数第二段“To deal with the complaints, it didn’t hide the problem but started real-life testing and even added‘bad product suggestions’to its product page”可知,为解决这些投诉,该公司并未回避问题,而是展开了实际测试,并甚至在产品页面中添加了“不良产品建议”这一内容。故填It didn’t hide the problem but started real-life testing and even added “bad product suggestions” to its product page.
4.句意:你怎么看待“deinfluencing(反影响)”这种现象?为什么?给出两个原因。开放性回答,合理即可,可参考最后一段。故填I think deinfluencing is positive. First, it helps people feel less stressed about what to buy. Second, it cleans up social media.
The Power of Small Wins
Have you ever felt discouraged by a big goal, like learning a new language or getting better at a sport? The final success seems so far away that it’s easy to lose heart. However, experts suggest that paying attention to “small wins” can make a big difference.
A small win is any tiny progress you make toward your goal. For example, learning five new words today, running for one more minute than yesterday, or finally understanding a difficult math problem—all these are small wins. They might seem unimportant alone, but together they create the path to success.
Celebrating these small victories is very important for our brains. Each time we recognize a small win, our brain releases a chemical that makes us feel happy and proud. This positive feeling gives us motivation to keep going. It builds our confidence and helps us develop a “growth mindset”—the belief that we can improve through effort.
On the other hand, if we only focus on the faraway final goal, we can feel stressed and want to give up when progress is slow. Tracking small wins helps us see that we are moving forward, even if the steps are small. It teaches us to enjoy the journey of learning and growing, not just the final result.
So, how can you use this power? Start by breaking your big goal into small, clear steps. At the end of each day or week, take a moment to write down or think about what you have achieved, no matter how small it seems. By doing this, you will stay encouraged and discover that every small step truly counts.
1.What is a “small win”?
2.Why is celebrating small wins important for our brains?
3.What is the benefit of tracking small wins?
4.Which way do you think is better for achieving a goal: focusing only on the final result or paying attention to small wins? Why? (Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.A small win is any tiny progress you make toward your goal. 2.Because each time we recognize a small win, our brain releases a chemical that makes us feel happy and proud, giving us motivation to keep going. 3.It helps us see that we are moving forward and teaches us to enjoy the journey of learning and growing, not just the final result. 4.I think paying attention to small wins is better for achieving a goal. Firstly, celebrating small wins gives us motivation and builds our confidence, helping us develop a growth mindset. Secondly, tracking small wins helps us see our progress and enjoy the journey of learning and growing, not just the final result.
【导语】本文主要讨论了“小胜利”的力量,包括什么是“小胜利”、庆祝小胜利的重要性、追踪小胜利的好处以及如何利用这种力量实现目标。
1.根据第二段首句“A small win is any tiny progress you make toward your goal.”可知,小胜利是朝着目标取得的任何微小进步。故填A small win is any tiny progress you make toward your goal.
2.根据第三段“Each time we recognize a small win, our brain releases a chemical that makes us feel happy and proud. This positive feeling gives us motivation to keep going.”可知,每次我们认识到一个小胜利,我们的大脑就会释放一种化学物质,让我们感到快乐和自豪。这种积极的感觉给了我们继续前进的动力。故填Because each time we recognize a small win, our brain releases a chemical that makes us feel happy and proud, giving us motivation to keep going.
3.根据第四段“Tracking small wins helps us see that we are moving forward, even if the steps are small. It teaches us to enjoy the journey of learning and growing, not just the final result.”可知,追踪小胜利有助于我们看到自己正在前进,即使步伐很小。它教会我们享受学习和成长的过程,而不仅仅是最终的结果。故填It helps us see that we are moving forward and teaches us to enjoy the journey of learning and growing, not just the final result.
4.开放性问题,言之有理即可。参考答案为:I think paying attention to small wins is better for achieving a goal. Firstly, celebrating small wins gives us motivation and builds our confidence, helping us develop a growth mindset. Secondly, tracking small wins helps us see our progress and enjoy the journey of learning and growing, not just the final result.

Many students have problems with vocabulary when preparing for some tests. Last week, TEENS offered advice on how to memorize new words. If you’re now familiar with those methods, why not try moving on to the next stage by using the following tips to build up your English vocabulary.
Repeated encounters (反复遇见)
The usual way of “memorizing” new material is through repeating it while it’s still in your mind. However, simply repeating a word seems to have little long-term effect.
But one kind of repetition is effective: repetition of encounters with a word. Words stand a good chance of being remembered if they’ve been met at least seven times in your reading, at intervals (相隔一段时间). So, read English magazines, newspapers, and websites regularly.
Spacing and review
It’s better to distribute (分配) memory work over a period of time rather than do it in a single session (一段时间). This is known as the “principle of distributed practice”, where new vocabulary introduced in one lesson is reviewed in the next, and then in later lessons.
Use it or lose it
By putting new words to use in interesting ways, you can add them to your long-term memory. In a study of vocabulary learning, students are asked to make up their own sentences with new words and read them aloud. The result showed that they remembered them better than those who learned the words separately and silently. Besides, the researchers also asked the students to silently imagine a picture in their minds to go with a new word, and it turned out to be very effective. So it might help if learners link words with a mental image.
Mix it up
Let’s face it—learning words can be really boring, but it doesn’t have to be. Thanks to the Internet, there are more interesting ways to get the job done. Try watching videos from English-speaking social media celebrities and copying the way they speak. You could even upload your own videos and try becoming a star yourself.
1.What kind of repetition is effective?
2.When is it better to distribute memory work, over a period of time or in a single session?
3.In the study of how to put new words to use in interesting ways, what were the students asked to do?
4.Which tip do you like best? Why? (Please give at least 2 reasons)
【答案】1.Repetition of encounters with a word. 2.Over a period of time. 3.They were asked to make up their own sentences with new words and read them aloud, and silently imagine a picture in their minds to go with a new word. 4.I like the tip “Repeated encounters” best. First, reading English magazines or newspapers regularly is easy to do in daily life. Second, meeting words many times can help me remember them for a long time.
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要针对如何扩大英语词汇量、有效记忆新单词介绍了四个实用的技巧。
1.根据Repeated encounters部分“But one kind of repetition is effective: repetition of encounters with a word.”可知,有效的重复是重复遇到一个单词。
2.根据Spacing and review部分“It’s better to distribute (分配) memory work over a period of time rather than do it in a single session (一段时间).”可知,在一段时间内分配记忆任务会更好。
3.根据Use it or lose it部分“In a study of vocabulary learning, students are asked to make up their own sentences with new words and read them aloud…Besides, the researchers also asked the students to silently imagine a picture in their minds to go with a new word…”可知,学生们被要求用新单词自己造句并大声朗读,以及在脑海中默想一幅与新单词相关的图。
4.开放性题目,答案不唯一,但观点要基于文章事实,且注意至少陈述两点原因,言之有理即可。

Growing Awareness
Andrea Carter was about 10 years old when she decided to spend her life growing food. Her family travelled each summer to rural (乡村的) Vermont, where she spent many hours working in a neighbour’s fields. “We weeded (除草) and picked tomatoes and green beans,” she recalled. “Looking back, it was a gift to experience farming and to see where food comes from.”
When Carter grew up, she followed her interest in plants by studying at the University of Arizona in Tucson, which is in the Sonoran Desert. Today, Carter is a crop scientist focusing on plants that grow in deserts. She works at a nonprofit (非营利性的) organization called Native Seeds in Tucson. The organization aims to protect seeds (种子) that can survive in the dry climates and to share knowledge about how to grow them. These seeds, including corns, beans, and other crops, have been grown by native farmers for centuries. But they’re at risk of disappearing if not grown properly or not grown at all. To prevent that from happening, the organization works with farmers to grow these crops, harvest their seeds, and then store them in a seed bank for future use.
As the director of Native Seeds, Carter says strong communication skills are very important. She leads workshops about dryland farming in the American Southwest and educates others about the importance of protecting local seeds. One of Carter’s favorite parts of her job is visıting farms “I enjoy communicating with farmers, who are interested in growing and care for their community’ and the Earth,” she says.
Carter and her husband also run their vegetable farm near Tucson. She says being a farmer herself helps her to form stronger connections with other farmers and understand the challenges they face. “I am better at my job because I am a farmer too,” she says.
Carter advises young people interested in crop science to visit or volunteer at the nearest garden or farm to help decide if this is the right career (职业) path for them. “Find out if you really like being with plants and being outside and growing things,” she says.
1.What did Carter spend many hours doing in Vermont each summer?
2.What does the organization Native Seeds aim to do?
3.How does being a farmer help Carter with her job?
4.What can you learn from Carter’s story to help you choose your future career? Please list two points and explain them with information from the passage.
【答案】1.Working in a neighbour’s fields. 2.It aims to protect seeds that can survive in the dry climates and to share knowledge about how to grow them. 3.It helps to form stronger connections with other farmers and understand the challenges they face. 4.We can learn two points from Carter’s story. First, we should try and experience the career we are interested in, just like Carter advised young people interested in crop science to visit or volunteer at the nearest garden or farm. Second, we should find out if we really like the career field we choose, as Carter suggested, by finding out if we really like being with plants, being outside, and growing things.

The fear of making the wrong decision is also called decidophobia (决策恐惧症). It can influence people even when it comes to the smallest choice. It can keep you stuck in place when you should be moving forward toward new experiences. There are several tips to help you deal with it.
To start with, a good tool for decision-making is the Decision-Making Quadrant (象限). Connected to the decision to be made, list answers to these four questions. For example, if I decide to work hard during the coming winter vacation, I will get good grades and I won’t fail the exam. If I don’t work hard, I won’t get good grades and I won’t pass the exam. Your decisions will almost always be found in your answers above.
Besides, you can do something like eating set meals (套餐) instead of different kinds of foods, wearing uniforms but not choosing from your own clothes, and buying everyday things of the same brands without thinking too much about it. This way, you don’t need to waste much time comparing the differences to make too many decisions.
Finally, not everyone likes to change their daily lives suddenly by making decisions. For example, if you want to do something, setting your final goal is the first step, and the second step is to make a list of what to do every day. At last, just do it as you plan. Things will work out better.
You can make progress in life with these tips. But when decision paralysis (决策瘫痪) has appeared, remember to step outside of yourself for a different view. Think about someone you trust and respect. Ask yourself, “What would he or she do?” and let it be your guide.
1.Can decidophobia influence people?
2.When do people need to step outside of themselves for a different view?
3.How can people deal with decidophobia?
4.What do you want to do after graduating (毕业) from middle school? Give an example and then answer the two questions in the Decision-Making Quadrant.
After graduating, I want to
(1) (at least 10 words)
(2) (at least 10 words)
【答案】53.Yes, it can. 54.When decision paralysis has appeared. 55.Use the Decision-Making Quadrant, simplify daily choices, set goals and plan step by step, or seek advice from trusted people. 56. study abroad. If I study abroad, I will experience new cultures and improve my language skills. If I study abroad, I won’t miss the chance to make international friends and get a better education.
【导语】本文介绍了决策恐惧症的概念及其影响,并提供了应对决策恐惧的几种方法,包括使用决策象限、简化日常选择、设定目标分步执行以及借鉴信任之人的视角。
1.根据第一段“It can influence people even when it comes to the smallest choice.”可知,决策恐惧症会影响人们,甚至影响最微小的选择。故填Yes, it can.
2.根据最后一段“But when decision paralysis has appeared, remember to step outside of yourself for a different view.”可知,当出现决策瘫痪时,人们需要跳出自我视角。故填When decision paralysis has appeared.
3.根据文章内容,应对决策恐惧的方法包括:使用决策象限(第二段)、简化日常选择(第三段)、设定目标分步执行(第四段)以及借鉴信任之人的建议(最后一段)。故填Use the Decision-Making Quadrant, simplify daily choices, set goals and plan step by step, or seek advice from trusted people.
4.本题为开放性问题,需结合决策象限的结构,先陈述初中毕业后想做的事(示例:出国留学),然后分别回答两个问题:(1)如果这样做会发生什么;(2)如果这样做不会发生什么。答案需至少10词。故填study abroad.;If I study abroad, I will experience new cultures and improve my language skills.;If I study abroad, I won’t miss the chance to make international friends and get a better education.

Nowadays, people are spending more hours on work. However, taking some time off is important for refreshing yourself. If you’re having trouble making time for a break, the recent research by UCLA’s Anderson School suggests that treating your weekends like a vacation can make you happier.
The findings are based on a series of experiments. In one study of 441 workers, half of the test subjects were directed to have a normal weekend, while the others had to “treat their weekend like a vacation.” To ensure that any difference in happiness was not simply due to different spending abilities, all participants were provided with the same fixed amount of experimental funds (资金) for weekend use. The next Monday, the weekend vacationers reported that they felt happier and were generally more satisfied than those who had had a normal weekend. The vacationers also reported they spent more money in vacation mode—about $130 compared to $104. But it wasn’t the money that bought them happiness. The researchers controlled for the amount of money both groups could spend. The vacationers were still happier than the ones who had experienced a typical weekend.
The reason why the vacation approach (方法) may have worked wonders could be that the vacation mindset allows people to be more attentive to the present moment. “We’re always trying to get through things to check off our to-do lists and treating the weekend like a vacation pushes us out of our continuous ‘doing’ mode,” said Cassie Holmes, a professor at UCLA’s Anderson School.
The study showed that getting into a vacation mindset during the weekend is relatively easy. Even if you can’t take the entire weekend “off”, you can manage to steal a piece of the weekend to gain the benefits of a vacation mindset.
1.What does the research of UCLA’s Anderson School suggest?
2.How did the researchers make sure that different spending abilities would not affect the results of the study?
3.Why may the vacation approach have worked wonders?
4.How could you as a student try to use the “vacation mindset” from the passage to make your weekends more relaxing? (Please give two examples.)
【答案】1.Treating your weekends like a vacation can make you happier. 2.They provided all participants with the same fixed amount of experimental funds for weekend use. 3.Because the vacation mindset allows people to be more attentive to the present moment. 4.I could try to put away my textbooks and to-do lists for a few hours and do something I truly enjoy, like reading a book for fun or listening to music. This would help me feel relaxed and refreshed, allowing me to return to my schoolwork with more energy and a clearer mind.
I could go for a walk in a park with my family and try to focus on the beautiful scenery and our conversation, just like I would do on a real trip. This would make me feel more connected to my family and more attentive to the present moment, which would lift my mood and reduce my stress from studying.
【导语】本文主要介绍了一项关于周末休息的研究。如今人们工作时间较长,休息对恢复精力很重要。加州大学洛杉矶分校安德森学院的研究表明,将周末当作假期对待能让人更快乐。
1.根据“If you’re having trouble making time for a break, the recent research by UCLA’s Anderson School suggests that treating your weekends like a vacation can make you happier.”可知,研究的核心结论是“将周末当作假期能让人更快乐”。故填Treating your weekends like a vacation can make you happier.
2.根据“To ensure that any difference in happiness was not simply due to different spending abilities, all participants were provided with the same fixed amount of experimental funds (资金) for weekend use.”可知,他们为所有参与者提供了相同的固定金额的实验资金,供周末使用。故填They provided all participants with the same fixed amount of experimental funds for weekend use.
3.根据“The reason why the vacation approach (方法) may have worked wonders could be that the vacation mindset allows people to be more attentive to the present moment.”可知,直接原因即“度假心态让人更关注当下”。故填Because the vacation mindset allows people to be more attentive to the present moment.
4.开放性试题,答案合理即可。故填I could try to put away my textbooks and to-do lists for a few hours and do something I truly enjoy, like reading a book for fun or listening to music. This would help me feel relaxed and refreshed, allowing me to return to my schoolwork with more energy and a clearer mind.
I could go for a walk in a park with my family and try to focus on the beautiful scenery and our conversation, just like I would do on a real trip.

1.Who is called “Barefoot Guy” on social media?
2.When is World Barefoot Day?
3.Where can you practise walking barefoot?
4.Would you like to try walking barefoot? Why or why not? (Please give two reasons,)
What does reading mean to you? For Xu Nuoxing and Cui Buyuan, both 16, from Jiangsu, reading is a kind of therapy that could help people build resilience (韧性).
To encourage teenagers to enjoy reading, two high school students created a project called Remor—Read more, emotion more. This project won the Best Team Award at the 2025 GenZEC.
Entrepreneurship Competition (Spring Round) National Venture Capital Summit in March. It also offers services like tailored (定制的) book lists, online reading clubs, and pop-up bookstore.
The two got the inspiration (灵感) from their personal experiences. “When I was in Grade 9, I felt extremely anxious because of the pressure at school and confusion about the future,” said Xu. “It was the stories in books that taught me that it was more important to enjoy the process rather than to be worried about the results.”
Between October 2024 and March this year, Xu and Cui did a lot of research. They sent out surveys to understand teenagers’ reading habits and analyzed (分析) papers on how reading improves mental health. They also spoke to professionals in business, software development, reading, and psychological counseling (心理咨询).
Among all their project’s services, the tailored book lists stand out because they include psychological counseling. Teenagers can buy this service through a WeChat Inini program, pick their preferred book genres types, and have AI recommend books to them.
What’s more, teenagers can communicate with online psychologists (心理学家) to share their problems. The psychologists offer online counseling and then recommend book lists with inspiring and interesting stories.
“It is important to take advantage of the chance to turn ideas into reality. I hope our project can help more teenagers and spread the charm of reading,” said Xu.
前三题题的答案不超过10个词,最后一题的答案词数不限。
1.Why did the two students create the project Remor?
2.Compared with being worried about the results, what is more important in Xu’s opinion?
3.How do online psychologists help with the project?
4.From your perspective (从你的角度来说), what is the “charm of reading”? (至少2点)

By realizing the chances in our daily lives to inspire our creativity, no matter how small, we may become more comfortable with taking bigger creative leaps in other aspects of our lives.
1.What is the way to creative productivity?
2.What is a new form of a diary?
3.According to the passage, how can you make yourself happy if you like to be alone?
4.What chances can you find to inspire your creativity? How can you do that? (Please give at least two examples. )

(2) (at least 10 words)
