Life keeps changing. While some changes are exciting, others may make us feel nervous. Whether you like them or not, changes cannot be avoided. Having a good understanding of them may make it easier for us to deal with changes.
What are life changes?
Many new things happen in life. Some are good choices you make, like joining a team or meeting friends. They can be big things like moving schools, a friend going away or the death of your beloved one. Smaller changes might include having a new teacher or adapting to parents’ new work schedules. All these can create strong emotions, but that’s normal.
Changes can be difficult because we can’t predict results. Emily Hanlon, a psychologist (心理学家), says, “Our brains like familiar things because they feel safe. When something changes, like starting a new school or moving to a new home, it can feel like stepping into the unknown. This makes us anxious because we don’t know what’s coming.” Changes can also be hard if you don’t feel quite ready for them or you are not in control of whatever is happening.
Can change be a good thing?
Trying new things helps discover what you like and dislike, such as tasting new ice cream flavors to find favorites. Changes also help us grow and learn skills. Hanlon says, “Though changes can be scary, they often bring new experiences, friendships, and strengths. So face the changes and believe in yourself.”
A.Why can it be hard to deal with?
B.Are changes a normal part of life?

Did you know that when you are kind to others,it’s good for your own well-being too. Even small acts of kindness can give your confidence a boost and help you feel more connected to people around you.
Know what kindness really means.
It could be a small, simple act, like holding a door open, or something that takes time and effort, like making a playlist for your friend. Kindness isn’t just something you do, but also means being caring about other people's feelings.
Scientists have discovered that when you’re kind to someone, your body is filled with feel-good chemicals (化学物质) that make you feel calmer, healthier and happier. An act of kindness can improve feelings of confidence and happiness. Kindness is also something that flows outwards. So if you do a good thing for someone, they might be encouraged to do the same. You’ll also get many friends to lend you a helping hand when you are in trouble. Acts of kindness have the ability to make the world a happier place.
Bring more kindness into your life.
Studies show that kindness is something that we can learn and get better at with practice. Just try to do something you enjoy in your daily life so that it won’t be difficult for you to keep doing them. Then you’ll see you can turn kindness into a habit. Don’t forget to show kindness to yourself too. Try to find ways to be kind to yourself, like reading a book or listening to your favorite song. Effective Study Strategies
As students, knowing that you don’t know something before the exam is better than just waiting for the day of the exam. To get well prepared for exams, study strategies are necessary in our study process. 1 Here are some of them.
◇ Use different ways to remember.
When you actively recall some information from memory, you can write it down on paper in different forms. 2 You just start with a blank piece of paper and write things down. It’s especially helpful because it shows you what you do (and do not) understand, so you can know what you need to review and practice more.
◇ 3
When you work on several related skills or ideas together, you can practice one skill or idea for a short period of time, then turn to another one, and then back to the first. Or, when you study geography which has something to do with history, you can review history information, and return to geography later. It not only helps you learn better, but also keeps you from falling behind in your other classes!
◇ Get enough sleep and eat well.
4 Though it might seem to work fast without taking a break and staying up all night to study, it won’t help you in the long run. Instead, you’d better develop a study plan, eat a good meal, and have a bottle of water when you take your exam. In this way, you will learn and understand the material better.
A.Mix different skills or subjects together.
B.Find pen pals who have the same needs.
C. Your brain works better when you get enough sleep.
D.You can use numbers, patterns, mind maps and so on.

(2025·浙江杭州·二模)An Interview with a Minimalist (极简主义者)
Some people choose to live with fewer things to make life easier and happier. This is called minimalism. In this interview, we talk to a minimalist, David, who shares his experience and suggestions for living with less.
◆ What is minimalism?
David: It’s living without unnecessary things. My flat used to be really messy, but then I read a great book called The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. It changed my life. 71
◆ Do you have to get rid (去除) of all your things to be a minimalist?
David: No, you have to get rid of a lot but you mustn’t get rid of everything. 1 You shouldn’t hold onto things for sentimental (情感) reasons. Don’t keep that sweater just because it was a present from your grandmother.
◆ 73
David: You don’t have to throw them in the bin. You could give them to friends or donate them to others.
◆ What’s it like being a minimalist?
David: It’s good. You don’t have to spend so much time cleaning or tidying up because you don’t have so many things. I live in a small flat but it’s neat and tidy: there’s a place for everything and everything is in its place. 2 Another advantage is that if you don’t buy things you don’t need, you can afford to buy good quality, so you have beautiful things that you love instead of rubbish you don’t really like.
A.You should read it.
B.When do you start being a minimalist?
C. When your home is tidy, you feel happier.
D.You should only keep things you really like.
E. Should we throw out all the things we don’t use?

From red apples and yellow lemons to blueberries and green melons, fruit comes in many different colors. 1
According to Lu Wei from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, fruit colors actually come from their different pigments (色素). How the pigments come into being depends on where the fruit grows. 2
To find out how the environment influences fruit colors, Chinese scientists studied more than 280 different fruit colors, including white, red, blue, purple and black. And instead of just growing in one place, you can find them growing in many places around the world.
They found that red fruit is likely to grow in cooler places. 3 The scientists also found that the closer the fruit is to the equator (赤道), the darker its color will be.
Animals have also had an influence on fruit colors. Animals eat fruit and drop the seeds (种子) in other places later. 4 Therefore, in order to attract animals, some fruits develop colors that are easy for animals to see.
A.It is the environment that causes the fruit to turn a certain color.
B.This helps the fruit spread and grow in different places.
C. How does temperature influence fruit colors?

C.Life would be boring if nothing changed.
D.How can you predict the results of changes?
E.But some changes might make you feel worried.

5.本题是开放性试题,答案不唯一。可以结合文中提到的自然美景、多元文化或特色美食任选一点作答,并给出理由。例如,根据文中提到的“These natural wonders make outdoor activities like hiking…popular”,可以回答喜欢加拿大的自然美景,因为喜欢在公园里徒步。注意字数不超过15个词。
(2026·浙江宁波·模拟预测)Do you know how to pick a good book you’ll really like? Here are some tips.
Start with your interest. ________ You can pick something that you love to read, not for school. They can be arts, music, or computers, or fashion design. You name it, there are books about it.
What’s your type? Do you prefer fiction or nonfiction (or both)? Fiction books, like novels, can take you to another world or help you think about something beyond your own experience. Nonfiction books give you the who, what, when, and why of something. ________ Many of them read like novels from start to finish.
Read the description. Some quotes (引言) on the back and inside covers of many books give you an idea of what the book is about. They can also help you pick future books, too. If you find a book you really like, take a minute to read the quotes and see which writers like the book. ________
Find a family favourite. Which book did your mother love best when she was at your age? How about your brothers and sisters? Find out and give them a read—then you can share your thoughts about the book.
Finally, you’ll probably enjoy what you’re reading a lot more if you find a quiet place and make time for the book. ________ You can put on some good music, get yourself some tea and let yourself be carried away by the book. You’ll see that time does fly when you’re reading something you love!

As well as cakes, singing, and presents, birthdays in Spain come with a fun custom: ear pulling. 2 The birthday person gets their earlobe (耳垂) softly pulled once for each year of their age.

Using science to make the world a better place
A science project can be a job or a fun hobby. But doing research can also be a chance to help others and make the world a better place. Here’s an interview with two teen scientists who took part in this year’s science competition, Sally and Allen.
◆Can you introduce your project?
Sally: ____1_____ The machine is powered by the sun’s energy. It can not only find litter but also put litter into different groups.
Allen: I developed an app to recommend (推荐) songs. It records someone’s heart rate (心率) while listening to music. The information is then used to recommend other music that can help the person relax.
◆ _____2____
Sally: When I volunteered at our local litter clean-up, I saw how much litter pollution there was, and I knew that I had to fix this problem.
Allen: When people are listening to my music, they all have different feelings. So that’s where I got the idea to start this project.
◆What was your favourite part of this project?
Sally: Building the robot. I have never had any experience in robotics before, so it was a completely new experience.
Allen: My favourite part was finding out proper music. _____3_____
◆Any advice for science project beginners?
Sally: Follow the scientific rules. It might seem difficult at times, but if you stick to this and change just one variable (变量) at a time, you’ll finally make it.
