Are your eyes tired, dry, or sore? Many things can make our eyes uncomfortable, but a big reason is using our eyes too much.
One main cause of eye discomfort is not blinking (眨眼睛) enough. When we read or use a computer, we blink much less. This can make eyes dry and uncomfortable. Some people are more likely to have dry eyes, like people over 50, women, and those who wear contact lenses (隐形眼镜). Some medicines and health problems can make eyes uncomfortable. Other things like wind, air from fans, and smoke can dry our eyes too.
With age, our eyes have to work harder to see things. This is called presbyopia (老花眼)—we can’t focus on close things well. It often starts in our 40s, and many people need reading glasses.
Kids can have eye problems too. They might blink hard or rub their eyes instead of saying their eyes hurt. Too much screen time can make kids suffer from shortsightedness.
To protect our eyes, try the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It’s also good to spend more time outdoors. If these tips don’t work, it’s time to see a doctor for an eye exam.
26. Who is more likely to have dry eyes according to the text?
A. A 10-year-old boy. B. A 60-year-old woman.
C. A man who wears glasses. D. A girl who likes sweet food.
27. When does presbyopia often start?
A. In a person’s 20s. B. In a person’s 30s.
C. In a person’s 40s. D. In a person’s 50s
28. What might a kid do if his or her eyes hurt?
A. Wash his or her face. B. Rub his or her eyes.
C. Tell his or her teacher about it. D. Turn off his or her computer.
29. What is the main idea of the fifth paragraph?
A. Ways to help people with eye problems. B. Why kids suffer from short sight.
C. Eye problems that kids may have. D. How kids use their eyes every day.
30. What is the best title for the text?
A. Causes and Tips for Eye Problems B. How to Use Eyes Properly

Do you sometimes feel sad or stressed? How do you usually deal with these feelings? Counselling for Toads: A Psychological Adventure tells the story of Mr Toad who becomes very sad and visits a kind psychologist (心理医生) named Heron. Together, they find out why Mr Toad feels so unhappy and how he can feel better.
Mr Toad used to be happy and enjoy life, but he started feeling lonely and unimportant. Although he tries to put on a brave (勇敢的) face to continue his life, he finds himself increasingly stressed and melancholy. His friends notice he has changed and suggest he should talk to Heron. During their meetings, Heron helps Mr Toad look back at his childhood. He remembers his strict father and quiet mother. They made him feel he was never good enough.
Heron teaches Mr Toad three ways people usually think and act: Child Ego State, Parent Ego State and Adult Ego State. It is common for people to have different feelings, but what matters is choosing how to face and solve them.
For example, Mr Toad learns to say “no” when his friends ask too much of him. Heron tells him, “You can’t change others, but you can choose how to behave in your own way.” He also says, “To understand yourself better, you must connect with your feelings. No one can help you but yourself.”
This book is great for teenagers because it talks about real problems, like feeling stressed because of friends or family. It shows that asking for help is brave. Through Mr Toad’s journey, readers learn to understand their feelings and grow stronger.
31. Why does Mr Toad visit Heron?
A. To learn more about animals. B. To make some new friends.
C. To deal with his sadness. D. To make up with his parents.

One day, you open the fridge and find some moldy (发霉的) food. But before you can throw it away, your mother stops you. ____36____ Is it safe to do this?

____38____ The mold can’t grow very far inside this kind of food. According to the BBC, you should cut about 2.5 cm around and below the mold to remove it. It’s OK to cut the moldy parts out of hard food and eat the rest. But if the food is totally covered with mold, you should still throw it away.
____39____ But some kinds of mold can be used to make food. For example, penicillium (青霉菌) can be used to make many types of cheeses, such as blue cheese. ____40____

China has a new plan for students. It is changing how young people study and do sports. By 2027, every primary and middle school student must do sports for at least 2 hours each day.
Beijing has already implemented at this plan. Many schools there have started “banchao” (sports games between classes). In the first half of 2025, more than 99% of Beijing’s schools held these activities. Almost 5 million (五百万) students joined in!
Beijing No. 2 Experimental Primary School is a good example. Each class plays at least 5 sports games every term. In a basketball game, 5 boys play first, followed by 5 girls. Soon, half the class has played on the court. Others take photos or act as referees (裁判). Everyone feels like they are part of the team.
Both teachers and students think “banchao” not only offers students a chance to exercise and have fun but also helps students learn teamwork, stay active (活跃的), and make friends. Fourth-grader Chen Siyu shared, “I was nervous before a game, but my team encouraged me a lot. Even though we didn’t win, we felt happy and strong working together!”
Beijing Guangqumen Middle School goes even further. It holds sports leagues (联赛) each term. Students learn basketball, football, and volleyball skills in PE class, then use them in real games. This makes them love sports and prepares them for sports exams.
Books feed the mind; sports feed the body. Thanks to “banchao” and the new national plan, China’s children are growing taller, stronger and happier.

Although he tries to put on a brave (勇敢的) face to continue his life, he finds himself increasingly stressed and melancholy. His friends notice he has changed and suggest he should talk to Heron.
