When we are Young, the thought of having no rules and getting to do whatever we want sounds pretty good. But actually, without rules, our lives will be disorganized and confused. Rules keep us safe. When drivers follow the rules of the road, there are a fewer accidents. Imagine if there were no traffic rules telling us when to stop. Our goal rules encourage fairness. Like if your dad says you need to share your toys with your friends or take turns playing a game. That way everyone can play rules instructors how to behave and keep order. At recess, we wait patiently in line to go down the slide. Nobody is happy when someone pushes ahead of their turn. Rules help us to be curious to others. We don't talk loudly in the library because others are trying to read and study quietly. Rules that encourage curtesy produce a nice environment for everybody. Rules help us avoid bad consequences, like when your mom warned you not to touch the hot stove. And for good reason, he doesn't want to get hurt. So why do we need rules? Because without them, our lives would be in disorder, causing frustration, unhappiness and confusion. Let's do our best to follow the good rules we are given by god, jesus, our parents, our schools and our churches. That way, IT will be nicer for everyone.

Choose three important rules from 2a. Discuss the questions with a partner.
Why is each rule important?
Rules keep us safe.
Rules encourage fairness.
Rules instruct us how to behave and keep order.
Rules help us to be courteous to others.

规则帮助我们避免不良后果。
规则保障我们的安全。
规则鼓励公平。
规则指导我们如何行事以及维持秩序。

What is your advice for each rule?
Change the mind.
Do what you can do.
Give suggestions on rules.
Just understand.
Write a reply to Eric as Dr Know. Give him some advice.
Dear Eric,
I know it can be diffcult to follow many rules. But rules can be good for us…
Here are some ideas to make things easier.
First, cleaning your room every day is a good habit. It helps you keep your room tidy. And then wearing the uniform helps you focus on learning rather than fashion. It also saves time in the morning as there's no need to choose outfits. Finally, practicing
the violin might seem boring, but it might bring you many opportunities in the future.
You can also think about the things you can do. You can play some music while you clean. And you can set a specific time for practice. After that, you do something you enjoy as a reward.
Remember, rules are there to help us, not to make us unhappy.
Best wishes,
Dr Know
