Beijing-based British artist Colin Chinnery has spent years collecting and preserving sounds including pigeon whistles (哨声), jingling camel bells, and the cries of street sellers in Beijing hutong. These century-old soundscapes carry a generation’s memories. In 2005, while having tea with several foreign musicians, Chinnery noticed a distinctive sound produced by whistles tied to flying pigeons. From this experience, Chinnery’s career as a sound artist took off.
After recording the pigeon whistles, Chinnery felt he should capture the sounds that were slowly disappearing. His work gradually became a documentation of Beijing’s culture. “Most of the traditional culture in the West exists in museums, and the traditional culture that still exists is mostly practiced in concerts or in performances, whereas in Beijing, one can still experience the traditional culture practiced in everyday life,” Chinnery said.
In 2023, Chinnery took his recordings to the Sound Art Museum. The sounds showcased in the museum are a witness to history, representing a valuable cultural heritage. After recording various sounds, Chinnery usually transforms them into lossless formats such as WAV and FLAC and then marks information for each sound, namely time, location, and the story behind it. All the sounds are original recordings without any artificial sound effect. When visitors walk into the museum, the spatial sound field creates a surrounding atmosphere through multi-channel audio, providing the opportunity to get fully involved in surround sound. They can also activate certain sound pieces by pressing buttons, touching screens or simply walking through specific areas. For young people, these sounds are fresh, helping them get close to the city’s forgotten culture.
“These sounds serve as the background noise of our society, so we often overlook them,” Chinnery explained. “However, when we put them in an exhibition setting, people suddenly realize that they hold great significance. They are part of culture, history, and urban transformation, which can help us understand how things and times are changing.” His life and career are now closely bonded with the sounds of Beijing.
24. What is introduced about Chinnery in paragraph 1?
A. The origin of his beloved cause. B. His childhood memories of Beijing.
C. The way to record different sounds. D. His inspiration to learn Chinese culture.
25. What makes traditional culture in Beijing special according to Chinnery?
A. It represents urban transformation. B. It is well preserved in local museums.
C. It is still alive in people’s everyday life. D. It boasts a longer history than the West.
26. How can visitors appreciate sound recordings in the museum?
A. By exploring the sound recording process. B. By reading the information on exhibit labels.
C. By employing new sound editing techniques. D. By engaging in some interactive experiences.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?

Sint-Paulus, a primary school in Kortrijk, Belgium, won the 2023 New European Bauhaus Award with its “Climate Playground” project. A climate adaptive playground goes for smart rainwater handling, offers greenery, softens school ground, and creates opportunities to discover climate issues. This connection to nature has made school a lot more fun.
What has changed underground is an important part of the climate playground design. A rainwater collection system with a capacity of 150,000 litres has been installed (安装) and rainwater is stored and reused. What cannot be stored flows away into the planting, making the school highly effective at absorbing water.
Green spaces account for at least 60 percent although some of the area remains hard-surfaced for ball games on rainy days. Trees and bushes form the green areas with a colourful background of flowers. These green spaces act as outright invitations to play and provide space for natural-looking play facilities. Children run on the courses, enjoy challenging tasks, and play games like hide-and-seek, which greatly enriches their outdoor life.
The climate playground also offers teachers extra instructional opportunities. They no longer have to visit parks to teach about blossoms and autumn colouring as the playground offers constant, varied learning experiences. Teachers often organize projects such as Bird-counting Day, where children feed birds and identify different species. There is also a popular vegetable garden, where children actively grow plants and healthy food. In a separate area, there is a chicken house managed by sixth-graders. Teachers use it to make math lessons extra engaging. Children weigh the feed and put it into statistics against the number of eggs they collect.
In recent years, Sint-Paulus’ practice has led to the establishment of BLES — a network of experts in outdoor play and learning. It supports dozens of schools in greening and softening their grounds. In the long run, such playgrounds are expected to become the norm, as there is no better place for children to learn about the environment than a climate playground.
28. What can we learn about the Climate Playground project from paragraph 1?
A. It purifies rainwater for daily use. B. It promotes students’ physical health.
C. It is intended to compete for an award. D. It puts climate discovery in a natural setting.
29. Why does some of the area of the ground remain hard-surfaced?
A. To ensure easy maintenance. B. To enrich students’ outdoor life.
C. To provide space for facilities. D. To fit different weather conditions.
30. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. Creative teaching methods. B. Educational value of the playground.
C. Physical activity schedules. D. Practical tips on vegetable gardening.
31. Which of the following agrees with the educational philosophy of Sint-Paulus?
A. True education starts outside campus.
B. School can serve as an extension of nature.
C. A child’s growth should be a journey, not a race.
D. Playground design balances study and entertainment.
D 29. D 30. B 31. B

Despite medical progress, treating bone breaks with many small pieces remains a big challenge. It is time-consuming and often leads to poor healing, greatly affecting patients’ quality of life. For over 40 years, Professor Fan Shunwu dreamed of a bone-gluing material and passed the task to post-90s doctor Lin Xianfeng. His inspiration came during a visit to his hometown, where the ancient Luoyang Bridge has stood firm for centuries despite the wearing effect of seawater.
The secret lies in oysters raised under the bridge by ancient craftsmen. These shellfish produce adhesive (粘合的) threads and natural glue to attach tightly to granite piers (花岗岩桥墩). Their calcium-rich shells pile up layer by layer, filling gaps between stones and forming a strong barrier that defends the bridge against seawater. Instead of fighting the ocean, the craftsmen use the power of nature, which reflects the wisdom of learning from nature.
Drawing on this bionic principle, the team overcame key technical difficulties. After years of testing, they created “Bone 02” with three core breakthroughs: strong, instant adhesion in blood-rich environments, easy application, and gradual biodegradability.
In over 150 clinical cases, it proved safe and effective. A young worker once suffered a terrible break in his wrist. The traditional treatment would require a large cut to implant a plate and some screws (螺丝) — risky and requiring a second operation for removal. With “Bone 02”, doctors made a 2-3 cm small cut, injected the adhesive, and fixed the bone in just 3 minutes. A three-month follow-up confirmed full healing — no complications and complete wrist function recovery.
From laboratories to operating rooms, scientists continually push the boundaries of life and health. This original Chinese achievement, born from multidisciplinary cooperation, marks a major breakthrough. It applies to most bone breaks and holds broad prospects, contributing Chinese wisdom to global health.
32. What inspired Lin Xianfeng to develop the new adhesive?
A. The natural ability of the shellfish. B. The durable quality of granite.
C. The clever design of Luoyang Bridge. D. The previous findings in medicine.
33. Which of the following is a feature of “Bone 02”?
A. Natural absorption. B. Gentle muscle healing.
C. Increasing blood flow. D. Wound-free treatment.
34. Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “complications” in paragraph 4?
A. Complex techniques. B. Severe breaks. C. Secondary problems. D. Positive changes.
35. What is the main purpose of the text?
A To explain the wisdom of ancient craftspeople.
B. To introduce a bionic medical invention from China.
C. To compare traditional and modern bone treatments.
D. To stress the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation.
A 33. A 34. C 35. B

通读全文,尤其是第三段“After years of testing, they created “Bone 02” with three core breakthroughs: strong, instant adhesion in blood-rich environments, easy application, and gradual biodegradability.(经过多年的测试,他们成功研发出了“Bone 02”产品,该产品具有三大核心突破点:在富含血液的环境中具有强大的附着力、易于应用以及可逐渐生物降解。)”

Many people may be familiar with college librarians’ job. They help students locate books or develop research topics. ____36____ Timothy Simmons, a first-year experience librarian at USC, is a perfect example of this.
Simmons hosted various events to connect with students, including games, tours, and field trips. He also set up information tables during new student orientation, Family Weekend, and other busy campus events — taking up tasks outside his usual routine. Notably, he chairs the library’s Outreach Committee. ____37____
Last semester, Simmons noticed the blank walls on the fifth floor, so he reached out to Jess Peri, a photography instructor and committee member, to discuss the possibility of a photo gallery for the space. The talk finally turned into an art project. ____38____ They were assigned to capture all aspects of the library, from rare items like medieval music scores, to staged Hogwarts-style photos.
____39____ Many readers were equally attracted to the photos on the walls as well as books on shelves. Under Simmons’ influence, students’ volunteer work has since become a regular effort for the library. For Simmons, the goal is simple: to make sure every student knows the library is here to help them. ____40____ Simmons recalls, “At this past summer orientation, a student walked right up to my table and said, ‘I know I need to talk to you.’ That felt great — knowing students acknowledge that I’m always here for them.”
A. In fact, he has got some confirmation.

C. They also help check out and return books.

首句“Many people may be familiar with college librarians’ job. They help students locate books or develop research topics.(许多人可能对高校图书馆员的工作很熟悉。他们帮助学生查找书籍或确定研究课题。)”提到许多人可能熟悉大学图书馆管理员的工作,即帮助学生找书或确定研究主题。接着提到“Timothy Simmons, a first-year experience librarian at USC, is a perfect example of this.(南加州大学的一名一年级体验馆员Timothy Simmons就是这样一个典型的例子。)” 因此,E项“Some librarians, however, may take this job further.(然而,有些图书馆管理员可能会将这份工作更进一步。)”
前文“Simmons hosted various events to connect with students, including games, tours, and field trips. He also set up information tables during new student orientation, Family Weekend, and other busy campus events — taking up tasks outside his usual routine. Notably, he chairs the library’s Outreach Committee.(西蒙斯举办了各种活动来与学生建立联系,包括游戏、游览和实地考察。他还在新生入学指导、家庭周末以及其他繁忙的校园活动中设立了信息台,承担了日常工作之外的任务。值得注意的是,他还担任图书馆外展委员会的主席。)”提到Simmons举办了各种活动来与学生建立联系,还设立了信息台,并领导了图书馆的外展委员会。F项“It engages students with the library in innovative ways.(它以创新的方式让学生参与图书馆的活动。)”
前文“Last semester, Simmons noticed the blank walls on the fifth floor, so he reached out to Jess Peri, a photography instructor and committee member, to discuss the possibility of a photo gallery for the space. The talk finally turned into an art project.(上学期,西蒙斯注意到五楼墙壁空空如也,于是他联系了摄影教师兼委员会成员Jess Peri,讨论是否可以在该空间设立一个照片展。这次谈话最终变成了一个艺术项目。)”提到Simmons注意到五楼空白墙壁的问题,并与摄影老师Jess Peri讨论了设立照片展的可能性,最终这个想法变成了一个艺术项目。B项“Many library regulars jumped into action.(许多图书馆的常客纷纷行动起来。)”
前文“They were assigned to capture all aspects of the library, from rare items like medieval music scores, to staged Hogwarts-style photos.(他们被分配去捕捉图书馆的方方面面,从像中世纪乐谱这样的珍稀物品,到精心布置的霍格沃茨风格的照片。)” D项“The collaboration turned out to be a great success.(这次合作取得了巨大的成功。)”
空前“For Simmons, the goal is simple: to make sure every student knows the library is here to help them.(对西蒙斯来说,目标很简单:确保每一位学生都明白图书馆的存在是为了帮助他们。)”说明的目标是确保每一位学生都明白图书馆的存在是为了帮助他们,空后“Simmons recalls, “At this past summer orientation, a student walked right up to my table and said, ‘I know I need to talk to you.’ That felt great — knowing students acknowledge that I’m always here for them.”(西蒙斯回忆道:“在刚刚过去的夏季新生入学教育活动中,一名学生径直走到我的桌前说,‘我知道我得找您谈谈。’这种感觉太棒了——因为我知道学生们认可我始终在这里为他们提供帮助。”)”说的是一个学生的真实感受。从学生的话中可知西蒙斯的目标得到了确认,A选项“In fact, he has got some confirmation.(事实上,他已经得到了一些证实的消息。)”

Dear Mr. Smith,
I hope this email finds you well. I’m writing to update you on our project of investigating English signs at local scenic spots.
Our group members have visited several sites and documented the signs that gave non-standard translations. We’ve found some common problems, including grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and Chinglish translations. These issues may confuse foreign visitors and limit effective cultural communication. However, despite our efforts, we remain uncertain about some of the AI-assisted corrections and are in need of your help. Could you kindly guide us on how to revise the non-native expressions as well as recommend relevant resources? Your professional guidance would greatly enhance the quality of our project.
Thank you for your support. We look forward to your advice.
Best wishes,
Li Hua

The day had finally arrived. For weeks, my team — Maya, Jake, and I — had dreamed of this moment: the annual Market Day, when the school gym would transform into a lively fair of student-run businesses.
The past month had been intense. We spent countless hours brainstorming ideas, before we finally focused on “FashionHut” with creative handicrafts. Maya, who loved herbs, made flower-scented candles using recycled jars. Jake, skilled with knots, decided to learn weaving friendship bracelets (手链) from online courses. I later contributed painted wooden keychains.
Together, we calculated costs, detailed market strategies, and planned pricing carefully, all of which came down to a ten-page business plan. And the most stressful moment was when we presented our plan to the review committee. Eventually, they approved our $300 startup loan (借款). We jumped for joy in the hallway.
We produced over eighty items with reasonable prices: candles at 6, bracelets at 4, keychains at $3. So we needed to sell that many items to repay the loan.
“Everything’s perfect,” Maya declared. Watching students flood into the gym, I believed her.
But an hour passed. Then another. Our table remained painfully quiet while chaos erupted around us. A booth (摊位) named “Game On!” had a line of students waiting to play balloon-shooting. Next to them, “Magic Bakery” had sold out of cookies. Students walked past our “FashionHut” with barely a glance.
“Maybe our prices are too high,” Jake whispered. “But if we lower prices now, we won’t make enough.” I disagreed.
The $300 loan hung over us like a storm cloud. We had signed an agreement to repay the full amount. By the two-hour bell, we had sold exactly two candles and one bracelet. We had two hundred and eighty-four dollars to go.
Normally, I avoided talking to strangers. In class, I never raised my hand. But now thinking of the loan, weeks of work, and my friends’ disappointed faces, I wouldn’t want our business to go up in smoke.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
“New plan. We can no longer wait for them to come to us.” I declared.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After the final bell rang, we counted our earnings eagerly.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“New plan. We can no longer wait for them to come to us,” I declared. I grabbed a couple of our items and stepped straight into the crowd. My voice was tense but firm as I approached the students, introducing our crafts proudly — candles in recycled jars, woven bracelets, and painted wooden keychains. Attracted by our unique handmade items and eco-friendly ideas, they followed me to our booth. Maya, Jake and I smiled and served every customer warmly. Students asked about the herbs in the candles and the story behind each keychain and bracelet, their curiosity turning into purchases.
After the final bell rang, we counted our earnings eagerly. Jake’s hands trembled as he counted the bills. “Three hundred and twenty-six dollars,” he announced. We hugged with laughter and joyful tears mixed. Three hundred for the loan, and twenty-six left to share. We realized the real reward was what we had discovered about ourselves. We had started the day as three nervous students with handmade crafts, but ended it as a team who learned that courage, not products, made our business succeed.

C By employing new sound editing techniques. D. By engaging in some interactive experiences.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Trace Culture: City Sounds Live On B. Beijing hutong: A Culture-loaded Place
C. City Sounds Never Die, They Just Fade D. A Soundscaper That Refines Artificial Sounds

28 What can we learn about the Climate Playground project from paragraph 1?

A. To explain the wisdom of ancient craftspeople.
B. To introduce a bionic medical invention from China.
C. To compare traditional and modern bone treatments.
D. To stress the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation.

The day had finally arrived. For weeks, my team — Maya, Jake, and I — had dreamed of this moment: the annual Market Day, when the school gym would transform into a lively fair of student-run businesses.
The past month had been intense. We spent countless hours brainstorming ideas before we finally focused on “FashionHut” with creative handicrafts.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
“New plan. We can no longer wait for them to come to us.” I declared.

I'm taking first year spanish. My professor told me to watch some videos called spanish working on your accent. Oh, they're right behind you. I think there are three of them. Can I take the whole series home? I'm afraid you can't take them out of the lab. You have to reserve an open room and check out the videos you need and watch them here. Then how long can I use a room? Two hours each time? Oh, good. Is the lab always busy? It's usually full right after dinner time. It's Better to reserve a room the day before, or you can share a room by joining your classmates. I'd rather have my own room. I can focus Better alone. No problem. There are still rooms available now. Just sign your name on the list. great. Thank you very much. Excuse me, is this the Carter language lab? Yes, IT is. How can I help you?
