Passage 1
(24-25八下·湖北宜城五校·期中)
Does life sometimes seem to be full of impossible problems? How many times, for example, do you find yourself saying things like “I really don’t understand this maths problem”, or “I can’t get into the school team”? Well, maybe it’s time to introduce yourself to the power of “yet” By adding this simple word, you can change everything. “I really don’t understand this maths problem yet.” “I can’t get into the school team yet.”Suddenly, the impossible becomes possible. You can imagine those things happening.
I read about a school that has changed the way it marks its students’ exams. The school finds out that the old “pass/fail system” wasn’t helping students’ motivation (积极性). If you passed, then great, but those students who didn’t pass often felt like failures. So now students who don’t pass the exams will not see a big red F on their papers, they see a “Not yet” instead. That way the students feel that they are on a journey. They haven’t reached the end, but they know that they are going the right way.
This kind of thinking is part of what experts call “having a growth mindset”. People with a growth mindset don’t concentrate on failure. They aren’t worried by not getting things right the first time and are happy to keep trying until they do. They enjoy the challenge and believe they can change. In contrast, people who just fix their eyes on the failure have what the experts call “a fixed mindset”. These people are always worried about failure and are happy to give up when things don’t go right. They don’t think that they are able to change. Clearly, it is better to have a growth mindset than a fixed mindset.
But don’t worry if you think that you have a fixed mindset. ★ . Remember that it all starts with questioning the things you believe about yourself. Stop believing that you can’t or you haven’t and realize that you just can’t or haven’t yet. Once you start doing this, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it before. It’s one small but very powerful word.
1.The purpose of adding the word “yet” is to believe ________.
A.everything is possible B.you are on a journey to your destination
C.you are going to start to win D.you will never feel upset about your failures
2.(新考法) The example in Paragraph 2 is to ________.
A.express a feeling B.describe a problem
C.show the result D.support the topic
3.Which of the following can be put into ★ ?
A.Experts will help you grow up healthily in mind.
B.You can train yourself to develop a growth mindset.
C.Everyone has his own advantages and disadvantages.
D.You can change everything by adding the small word “yet”.
4.According to the passage, which one of the following has “a growth mindset”?
A.Jack got an “A” in the exam. He was quite happy to tell his parents.
B.David failed in a competition, but he stayed confident and kept trying.
C.Jenny found it hard to work out the maths problem, so she gave it up.
D.Emma was refused by school team. She didn’t want to have another try.

* Do I have a good place to do my homework?
* Have I tried different ways of studying?
If your worry is about a fight you had with a friend, you might write down all the things you could do: write a note to him or her, invite him or her to a basketball game, say sorry to him or her. Once you have a list of these things and choose one of them, you can get your friend back.

Passage 1
(24-25八下·湖北随州曾都区教联体多校八年级下学期4月期中·期中)
Avoid thinking too much
Overthinking is natural but can cause problems 告别精神内耗,勇敢向前一步
Imagine you are going to give a speech (演讲) the next day. The night before, you spend a lot of time thinking about the possible mistakes you might make and whether you’re prepared enough. Well, you might be overthinking. Overthinking means going over the same thought again and again, analyzing (分析) the simplest situations or events too much.
Overthinking comes from one of our primitive instincts (原始本能). The primitive mind will always see things in the worst possible light. Our brains are always looking for threats (威胁), to make a plan to deal with those threats and keep us safe.
Some people believe that overthinking may be helpful because it helps us look at a problem from every possible angle (角度) and get ready for what might happen. However, research suggests that overthinking can make us stressed, anxious (焦虑的) and depressed(忧郁的).
What’s more, overthinking might create problems with how you get along with others. As you think the worst, make incorrect guesses, or worry about every little thing others do and say, you might misunderstand their intentions (意图).
So, instead of sitting and thinking about a problem again and again, you can distract (转移注意力) yourself for a bit. Your brain might find better ways to solve the problem while you’re doing something fun, like gardening (园艺), or even while you’re sleeping.
Also, when you find yourself overthinking, challenge these thoughts. Ask yourself if they make sense and think about other possibilities. It can be hard at first, but recognizing that you are overthinking can help you make a change.

A.It improves problem-solving skills. B.It reduces stress levels.

2.What does the brain’s “primitive instinct” do, according to the passage?
A.It encourages creative thinking. B.It focuses on finding threats.
C.It helps people relax in difficult situations. D.It makes decisions quickly.
3.Which activity is suggested to stop overthinking?
A.Doing something interesting. B.Challenging negative thoughts.
C.Avoiding all social activities. D.Making longer to-do lists.
4.What can we infer (推断) about people who overthink?
A.They never feel stressed. B.They may misunderstand others’ intentions.
C.They always make perfect plans. D.They prefer to work alone.
5.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Overthinking is a useless habit.
B.Overthinking has roots in human instincts but can be managed.
C.Gardening is the best solution to stress.
D.Modern life makes overthinking unavoidable.

Do the housework together. Let them help you while you are folding clothes. They can pass you the clothes. When you get back home from shopping, they can help you to put away your items (物品). They can pass the items to you while you put them in order.
Remember: When you get your children to help you, you should make them feel as if they’re doing a great thing by praising them .You can say something like “What a strong boy you are!” or “You’re so helpful.” It will make them feel happy and be ready to help you next time.

2025 is a breakout year for AI. It is changing how we live in every way. For example, there is an AI restaurant in Shanghai. Let’s see what it is like.
The AI restaurant, located in the Hongqiao Area, covers about 130 square meters. It can serve about 300 people every day, most of whom are old people living nearby or office workers in the area.
At the restaurant, people need to order food on a screen. For those who are not sure what to eat, the restaurant’s robots can give advice. Then the robots cook the dishes according to the order. They can make different kinds of Chinese dishes like gongbao chicken and mapo toufu. What’s more, the robots can control the temperature for dine-in or take-away food to keep the dishes warm. At the self-service area, people simply need to place their dishes on a smart cash desk and the robots will tell them the price of the meal. Passage 1
(23-24八下·湖北黄石黄石港区黄石八中教联体·期中)
Have you ever heard the phrase “You never get a second chance to make a first impression (印象)?” It may sound like an unusual piece of advice, but it is true the first impression someone has of you when meeting you for the first time will probably influence how that person treats you or reacts to you in the future.
What is even more interesting is that the brain takes in all the information to create that first impression in about three seconds. When you meet someone for the first time, by the time you have stated your name or shaken hands, the other person has already formed an opinion about the kind of person you are.
So how do you make a good first impression? All things grown-ups tell you—such as being polite, and being well-dressed are very important. However, the most important tool for making a good first impression is your face. Smiling, being responsive, and looking like you are happy will almost always leave a positive (积极的) impression on people, especially those who do not know you. Most people, generally speaking, are ready to smile back when they are smiled at.
Furthermore, smiling and being in a positive mood helps you to know and get a better understanding of new things. This means that you can possibly be friendlier to people you do not know and be more creative and able to solve problems more quickly. So if you ever need a reason to be happy, think about the wonderful people you might meet and impress with a cheerful smile.
1.What does the underlined word “reacts” in Paragraph 1 probably mean in Chinese?
A.报告 B.建议 C.回应 D.道歉
2.Which paragraph shows how soon others form opinions on you?
A.Paragraph 1. B.Paragraph 2. C.Paragraph 3. D.Paragraph 4.
3.What is the most important to leave good impressions?

4.What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A.Friendliness helps solve problems. B.Being positive helps you find a way out.
C.There are many reasons to be happy. D.Thinking of great people cheers you up.
5.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Impressions Decide Who You Are B.Smiling Makes the First Impression
C.Manners Leave Deep Impressions D.The First Impression Does Count

“Geomagnetic storms can influence (影响) radio waves and cause problems for ground communication and satellite signals (卫星信号),” Professor Cai Zheng from Tsinghua University told Xinhua. This can influence the accuracy of navigation systems (导航系统) and the quality of signals for phones and satellite TV, Strong geomagnetic storms can also influence power systems, even resulting in power outages.
Geomagnetic storms can also influence the migration and navigation abilities of animals. For example, they can influence homing pigeons’ ability to find their way, making it difficult for them to return home.
★ Shortly after the recent storm, the topic of “geomagnetic storms and sleep” appeared on Sina Weibo with some Internet users complaining that they had trouble sleeping. However, it was just a convenient excuse. “Geomagnetic storms usually don’t influence human health,” Zong Weiguo at China Meteorological Administration said.

Passage 3
(23-24八下·湖北宜昌宜都·期中)
A young actress is about to go onto the stage (舞台). As she waits by the side of the stage, she looks nervous. You might hear that she says to her friend in a low voice .“I’ve got butterflies in my stomach”. Butterflies in her stomach? How did those get in there? The feeling of butterflies comes from things produced by the body in stressful situations.
One thing that the body make under stress is cortisol (皮质醇). It helps the body in normal situations. In fact it helps the body do normal activities in the morning after waking up. It also plays a role in helping the body and react (作出反应) well. However, when the body is under stress, cortisol begins to influence the stomach. For some people cortisol shuts down the stomach, producing the funny feeling of butterflies. For others, cortisol speeds up the way the stomach works, which makes these people feel sick.
Scientists believe that stress is helpful and it is a preparation for dealing with difficulties. With this preparation comes the power to do with the changes outside, so being nervous isn’t all bad. However, if people are under nervousness for a long time, they can lose control of the body, which will lead to illness. So we should learn to keep it away.
All you need to do to keep away from a few butterflies in the stomach is just learning to relax. Taking a trip with family may be a good way. Reading a book on a sunny morning can also make you enjoy yourself. Laughing with or talking to others about your stress can help with it.
5.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.Small word, great power B.Two Different Mindsets
C.Nothing Is Impossible D.On the Way to Success
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.B 4.B 5.A
【导语】本文讲述了Yet“然而”是一个很有分量的词,且在我们成长过程中起着重要的作用。
1.细节理解题。根据首段“By adding this simple word, you can change everything. … Suddenly, the impossible becomes possible.”可知,加上 yet 是为了让人相信一切皆有可能,故选A。

The school find out that the old pass/fail system wasn’t helping students’ motivation (积极性)...They haven’t reached the end, but they know that they are going the right way.”可知,第二段通过介绍“尚未”的运用,可以改变成绩不合格的学生思维方式,以此来证明作者的观点。故选D。
3.推理判断题。根据“Clearly, it is better to have a growth mindset than a fixed mindset.”和“But don’t worry if you think that you have a fixed mindset.”可知,此处内容和“成长心态”相关,B选项“你可以训练自己培养成长心态”符合语境,故选B。
4.推理判断题。根据“They aren’t worried by not getting things right the first time and are happy to keep trying until they do.”

Passage 1
(21-22八下·湖北武汉东湖高新区·期中)
The Chinese dragon is a great animal which can bring good luck in Chinese culture. It is said that every year on the second day of the second lunar (阴历的) month, the dragon wakes up from its winter sleep and raises its head. Because of this, the day is called Longtaitou. It is about honoring (向……致敬) the Chinese dragon and wishing for good weather in spring. Old people believed that after Longtaitou, there would be more rain, which is very important to farming. So Longtaitou was the start of spring and farming. This year, it falls on March 4.
People have many ways to celebrate (庆祝) the Longtaitou Festival. The most popular one is to have a haircut. Many believe that a haircut during the first lunar month may bring bad luck to your uncles—mainly your mother’s brothers. They have a haircut to get rid of bad luck and have a new start.

A.Doing something interesting. B.Challenging negative thoughts.
