Passage 1
(24-25学年高一下·内蒙古包头·期中)
On the journey of life, Father’s love is like a lighthouse, quietly guiding and protecting us through the stormy seas and the calm waters. My dad was a cleaner in my school. When I was 12, I decided to study hard to have a life different from his.
One day when Dad asked me to play basketball with him, I just replied, “I’m busy. I want to work hard so that I can become a rich man. I don’t want to be a cleaner like you, Dad!” He was shocked, but I didn’t care and continued studying hard. Finally, I graduated from high school with honors, and decided it was time to break free from my dad and follow my dreams.
“Dad, I got a scholarship (奖学金) to a law school in California,” I told him. “I’ll leave in three days.” My dad was surprised but proud of me. As I left for the airport three days later, he said, “Son, wherever you go, welcome back home.” I ignored his words and flew to California.
After I graduated, I found a great job there. Later, I became a manager and earned much money. I no longer remembered my father was a cleaner. I had forgotten my dad, who was still cleaning my school. I seldom answered his calls, sent him a message or wrote back to him. I was busy; I still had a lot more to achieve.
With time, the more success I tasted, somehow, the lonelier I became. I felt especially lonely on my 31st birthday. I kept checking my phone, hoping someone wished me a happy birthday. But there wasn’t a single call or message. Later that evening when I returned home from my office, something in my mailbox drew my attention.
“A letter?” I whispered and saw it was from my father. He never forgot to mail me a letter for each of my birthdays. However, I never took the trouble to read it. “How did I ignore him?” I thought. I brought the letter home and took out his earlier letters. And I opened one. It read, “Wherever you are, I love you forever. I wish you a happy life.”

passage 2
(24-25高一下·内蒙古包头·期中)
When my son Mike and my daughter Kate were little, we would go to a large local amusement park every fall. The kids loved it and I think I enjoyed it even more than they did. The kids laughed on the rides, and I loved watching them smile.
But there was one problem — souvenirs. Every time we walked into a gift shop, Kate would beg for stuffed (填充的) animals, and Mike wanted superhero toys. They would pull my arm and say, “Please, can we buy this?” The kids would drive me mad when they asked for souvenirs, to the point that in the stores I would try to block my daughter’s view of the stuffed animals and my son’s view of the superhero items.
Then I came up with a solution. The next year, I gave each child $25 at the start of the day. “This is your money for souvenirs,” I said to Mike and Kate. “You can either spend it or save it.” Something amazing happened. Kate, who usually wanted everything, now checked prices carefully. “This doll costs $20, but this smaller one is only $10,” she said. Mike thought hard before buying anything as well. They even shared cotton candy on the way home. At the end of the day, they still had half their money left! Best of all, they learned about responsibility and how to make smart choices — and I didn’t have to say “no” all the time!
A few years later, my son Mike gave me another headache — his magic trick of making clothes disappear. I’d never forget when my twelve-year-old son Mike went off to the first day of school in a brand new navy blue jacket and came home wearing an old one that barely fit him. This wasn’t the first time. Before this, he had lost two sweatshirts and a nearly new winter coat. That was the last straw in a series of clothing disappearances.

Passage 3
(24-25高一下·内蒙古赤峰·期中)
I loved exploring forests, observing plants, and listening to the chirping of birds with Jimmy, my little brother. Mom was always there with her camera, capturing each wonderful moment. These photos were arranged in an album. It held the sweet memories of my family, and I was never bored with opening it, as it always filled me with warmth. Life was simple until I asked for a new electronic game for my birthday. I was well-behaved, so my parents fulfilled my wish. But then everything changed.
The game was so amazing. As soon as I switched on the device, my ears stopped hearing external sounds. My back ached, but I couldn’t stop.
“Davey, wanna go out and play?” asked Jimmy, holding the ball.
“No, thanks,” I refused, without a second thought.
“But all our friends are waiting! You’ve been staying here every day playing that game,” Jimmy urged. I finally tore my eyes away, my voice sharp. “Can’t you see I’m busy? Go play without me!” With that, Jimmy stormed out, his face reddened with anger.
Outside in the forest, the kids played ball and hide-and-seek, having loads of fun, while I spent the whole afternoon in the sofa, absorbed in the game until it was dark. It was days before I realized I hadn’t seen Jimmy around.
Each day brought a fresh battle. I resisted, but finally gave in. My fingers danced across the buttons as hours slipped by. Around 9 PM, Mom came and placed a glass of milk beside me.“Time for bed,” she whispered. I saw her worries — how could I not? But click-clack noise covered Mom’s voice. When the final boss fell, my eyes burned. Walking half-asleep towards the bed, I noticed a photo album on the bedside table. The worn cover brought back memories.

Passage 1
(24-25高一下·内蒙古乌兰察布市·期中)
I couldn’t bear (忍受) it any longer! My best friend had gone for lunch with the most popular girl in class, leaving me to eat my sandwich alone in the library. Worse still, during dance class, my partner, a boy, refused to hold my hand and bad mouthed me behind my back (背后嘲笑), further feeding my anger. It was my worst day in school. I was hurt and angry, and looking for a target to release (释放) my anger.
When I got home from school, Mother had baked peanut (花生) butter cookies and put them up on a plate (盘子). She even decorated each one with flower. “Why don’t you make chocolate cookies?” I said moodily (不情愿地). “Sorry,” she replied, “but I made peanut butter ones. Eat them while they’re still hot, sweetie.” I ate some unwillingly (不情愿) in the end. Later, when she pulled a grilled chicken (烤鸡) from the oven (烤箱) and sang a song for me.
I got annoyed again — Never mind that Mother busied herself the whole afternoon with the cooking just to put this hot meal on the table. I wanted hamburgers. “Nobody likes that kind of food, Mum! Why didn’t you make hamburgers?” I complained. Mother took a deep breath, ran her fingers through her messy (凌乱的) hair and looked into my eyes with a puzzled look. “Sweetheart, you’ve never complained (抱怨) about having it before, her messy hair and looked into my (eyes with a puzzled look.” Sweetheart, you’ve never complained about having it before. What’s up? she said matter-of-factly (平淡地). Suddenly, I was so angry. I screamed (尖叫) and complained. It was the first time that Mother had got angry at me. Nobody seemed to care about me, including my mother! Finally, we had a shouting quarrel (争吵) in the house.

Passage 2
(24-25高一下·辽宁·期中)
In 1989, I had just graduated from high school. I had three months before college started, and I found it hard to choose a career path. My choices were limited. I could become a doctor or an engineer, or go into finance (金融) after getting a business degree. I wasn’t interested in engineering, so I was left with medicine or business. I couldn’t decide.
My uncle, one of the elders in the family, suggested that I be a one-month intern (毕业实习生) at an international company and then a one-month intern at a hospital. After that, I could make a decision. It seemed like a great idea.
I was accepted as a one-month intern at a foreign bank. I learned how the finance world worked, made new friends, and enjoyed the relaxing working environment.
The month passed quickly, and I started working at a leading hospital. This experience was completely different. The hospital was very demanding. The days started at 7 am(compared to 9 am at the bank)and were full of endless duties. It was crazy.
I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank offered a more relaxing working environment, better working hours, and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement and something unpredictable (难以预料的), but the studying and training were very hard. It seemed like business was going to win.
In the last few days of my hospital internship, I was driving home after a very busy night. On the way, I saw an old man and an old woman standing by the road, looking very worried. I pulled over and asked what was wrong. The old man told me that his wife suddenly felt very sick and needed to go to the hospital immediately. Hearing this, I decided to help them.

Passage 3
(24-25高一下·辽宁沈阳·期中)
Like every other Sunday morning, Catherine’s sister. Chloe, dropped her child, . Warren, off at Catherine’s apartment at around 6:30 a. m. before she went on her way to work because Catherine was Warren’s godmother.
And, just like every other Sunday morning, they all went back to sleep for a couple of hours. When everyone awoke, Catherine made a quick breakfast and then they hurried and got themselves out of the door for the park.
It wasn’t until they approached the park and saw a girl they knew standing there passing out flowers that Catherine remembered this wasn’t like every other Sunday morning it was Mother’s Day.
Before Catherine could stop him, Warren, always the curious child, went up to the girl and asked, “Emily, what are you doing?”
Emily smiled at him and said brightly, “I’m giving a flower to every mother today because it’s Mother’s Day.”
Warren’s eyes grew bright. “My mom had to work today. Can I have a flower to take home to give her?”
“Of course.” Emily answered, and lowered the box she was holding so that Warren could pick out a flower for Chloe.
Warren turned towards Catherine, proudly holding a pink carnation (康乃馨) in his hand. He smiled at her. His dark eyes danced with pride, love and excitement.
Catherine smiled at him and signaled him to come with her, but instead, he turned back towards Linda, “Can I please have a flower for Aunt Catherine too?”
At that moment, Catherine’s heart raced. It was the last thing Catherine had expected Warren to do. It was one of the sweetest and most sincere things she had ever heard him say. But neither of them was ready for what happened next.

Passage 4
(24-25高一下·吉林长春·期中)
The first time I saw Suzy Khan, I knew I had to help her. She was really small for her age of 12. The boys in my class often joked about her and laughed their heads off. She would open a book, pretending to read, with tears dropping on the open page.
All I knew was that she was an orphan (孤儿) from Africa. She had just been adopted by a family in town and they decided that the best way for her to learn American ways of life was to be with American kids in the school. I looked down at this tiny girl and promised myself that somehow I would help her.
“But how could I help her fit in with us? There had to be a way”, I thought to myself.
One day, when I went into the classroom, I saw that Suzy had opened her geography book to a picture of a train, and in her notebook, she had made a perfect copy of it.
I was surprised and thought that she could do something in the coming talent show. So, I shared my idea with her and took her to see the art teacher, Miss Parker. I showed her what Suzy had drawn. “Wow, it’s wonderful,” said Miss Parker. She then showed us a poster she had painted for the talent show. “I need more of these, but I just don’t have enough time. Could you help me, Suzy?” “Of course, Miss Parker. I’d love to” said Suzy. I was on the edge of my seat with a strong sense of fulfilment.
On the day of the talent show, Suzy’s posters were everywhere—all over the hall and all over the school, each one different.

Passage 1
(24-25高一下·辽宁朝阳·期中)
I used to be very shy and often felt lonely. Although I did well in all the academic subjects, I was afraid of physical education. Even kids in the neighborhood would laugh at me. “Look at that girl,” they said. “Her feet don’t leave the ground when she runs!” Their words embarrassed me. At school, whenever the teacher organized some competitive games, no one in the class would choose me as their partner or team member. As a result, I often ended up looking at others enjoy their games.
Things would go on like that if not for a sports meet in my high school. By mistake, my name was put on the list of those who would compete in the women’s 1500 meters race. By the time people found the mistake, it was too late to change.
My deskmate, Mary, was a natural athlete. She said to me, “I couldn’t run that race in your place, because I have signed up for three items already.” I nearly broke down. 1500 meters! Running against the best runners in front of the whole school! It would be the worst nightmare I’d ever have!
“You still have time to catch up because there is still one month before the sports meet,” Mary patted me on the shoulder, “That is cool! You will run for our class! And we will do training together.” Yes, this is not just for myself, but for my class. But still, 1500 meters to me was like Mount Everest (珠穆朗玛峰) to a beginning climber. I had no idea even how to start my preparation.
Mary invited me to join in their training. Every afternoon after class, several of us ran together. When the fear of being laughed at flooded over me, I saw others running right beside or stand by the tracks cheering for us. They gave me strengths.

(24-25高一下·辽宁·期中)
The crowd roared as I took off from the starting line in The Big Race. Through the cheers, I heard Mom shouting, “Run, Sammy, run!” I knew without looking that she was smiling from ear to ear and clapping her hands for me.
I kept my eyes straight ahead running as fast as I could. “Run, run, run,” I chanted to myself in my mind as I passed my friend Justin. I saw Justin’s red face out of the corner of my eye and wondered if my own face was that red too?
“Run, run, run.” I was on fire, passing Sarah, leaving her in my dust.
The coach was waiting for me at the finish line.holding the medal, for the fastest runner in kindergarten. I would wear that blue and white ribbon around my neck when we go out for ice cream to celebrate and then hang it in my room. Last night I took the collection of caps off the hook on my wall leaving it ready for my shiny new medal .I couldn’t wait to see it every day when I woke up.
Dad was there in the crowd also and would pick me up and put me on his shoulders to carry around. “My son!” He would tell the other fathers, “My son won the race!”
I was going to win! Faster than Sarah, I came up behind Mikey, giving my legs that extra burst of energy to pass him by. The winner, Sammy! All that running in the park was worth it!
Just as I heard the roar of the crowd welcoming me to the finish line,I saw a blur out of the corner of my eye. What? There was Justin with his tomato cheeks running as fast as humanly possible, huffing and puffing like he was going to blow the house down. And then he was ir front of me.I was behind tomato face Justin.Crossing the finish line,I heard the voice over the loudspeaker boom,“Congratulations to the winner,Justin!"

Passage 3
(24-25高一下·辽宁沈阳·期中)
Dylan and Emily had been carefully setting aside money to pay for their wedding, which they hoped to have within the next year or so. However, their plans took an unexpected turn.
One day after work, when looking through a social media, Dylan saw a post about a little dog that had been hit by a car and left to die on the side of a country road. Without hesitation, Dylan and Emily grabbed some towels and blankets, threw them into their car, and drove about 20 minutes to the spot where the dog had been last seen.
There the dog was, about 8 to 10 months old, lying off the side of the road in a driveway, wet and shaking slightly from the rain that had been falling throughout the day. Dylan noticed that its back legs were covered in blood and appeared to be broken. Despite the pain, the dog tried to crawl towards him, and when Dylan got close, the dog gently put its head in his lap. Dylan could sense its discomfort, but the dog didn’t make a sound. He decided to temporarily name the female dog Acklin for the name of the road where she was found.
With Emily’s help, Dylan safely transported Acklin into the trunk of their car. Then Emily went door to door to ask if anyone knew the dog, while Dylan searched for the nearest animal hospital on his phone. Their worries increased when Acklin started coughing; she might have internal bleeding.
With the lights on, they drove 10 miles to an animal hospital nearby. The vets (兽医) examined the dog, finding both of her back legs were broken and she had two bruised lungs (肺挫伤). They warned Dylan that one of her legs might need to be cut off, and the total cost of treatment could range from $10,000 to $15,000.
Through the media, they soon learned that the dog’s owner had been located. However, the owner announced that she couldn’t afford the cost of treatment and then hung up. Dylan and Emily felt a heavy burden on their hearts.

Passage 4
(24-25高一下·辽宁·期中)
I was a kindergarten teacher, 40 years old and non-athletic. One day, Ryan, my thirteen-year-old son, approached me and said, “Mom, would you like to join in our bikeathon (自行车马拉松) next month?” As he told me the details of the bikeathon, I laughed out loudly. “What makes you think I could finish a 20-mile bikeathon?” I asked.
Ryan looked straight in my eyes and said, “I know you can do it. You can be my iron (铁) mommy.” I almost laughed again. But my son was serious. So I promised him that I would consider it. When I began to think over his invitation, I surprisingly found that it would need months of training and new equipment, and that my bike needed fixing to work again. At that moment, I lost my interest in doing all of that.
The next day, I went to kindergarten class. I played a familiar counting song and the kids were struggling to keep up with the beat at first. “Let’s do it again, and this time better. I know you can do it!” There it was again and again, and the kids made it to sing to the beat. Realizing my inspiring words “I know you can do it”, I was determined to have a try for the bikeathon.
I told Ryan about it and asked him to give me some tips on how to get ready. I began training hard to get prepared. Then the bikeathon day came on a cool spring morning. Ryan and I set out for the site together. Ryan kept encouraging me on the road. However, as soon as I came to the starting point, which is on a hill overlooking our town and about twenty miles away from the finish line, I became a bit nervous.

(24-25高一下·内蒙古包头·期中)
“Mumma, I am going to the morning walk”, Rohan screamed while his mother was cooking in the kitchen.
His mother who was engaged in her work replied casually, and he went away. It was bitter cold outside. Though he had his cap and muffler (厚手套) with him, he could still perceive much cold. He followed his daily routine when something different happened to him. There laid a small puppy on the other side of the road, just beside a canal, who seemed shivering and trembling with the cold. He went towards it, looked into its eyes, experienced its pain and couldn’t help but pick it up on his hands. It was voiceless, but expressed everything to the boy, without any language.
There was no other thought which stroked his mind and he decided to take that puppy with him to his home. Then came a thought of his mother, who never liked dogs and restricted whenever possible. But his compassionate feeling overcame all his fears and he went back to his home, holding the puppy in his hands. He headed on towards his home though he wanted not to go and thought if he could delay his arrival at his home, but no way possible …
After five minutes of thoughtful walk, he reached his home, where was his mother, who was surely to be annoyed with a puppy in his hands. He got inside his home and underwent what was expected. His mother asked furiously “What is it?”, and continued a number of questions when Rohan uttered a single sentence “Mumma, he needs us”, which made her mother believe “What Love is”.

Lei was born in a happy family. His parents, hardworking farmers, grew crops from the land to support their family’s life. Lei grew up, surrounded by the love and care of his family, with his days filled with laughter and the simple joys of childhood. However, his life took a sudden turn when his parents decided to move to the city in search of greater opportunities to support their family. Therefore, Lei had to be left behind and taken care of by his grandparents. Although Lei was taken good care of, he felt lonely and sad without his parents around. The house was once filled with his parents’ voices, but now only he and his grandparents were at home. He missed his parents and the happy time he spent with them.

He even didn’t want to go to school from time to time and his grades began to fall greatly. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, his parents made a difficult decision to send Lei to a boarding (寄宿制) school, hoping it would provide him with a fresh start.
However, adjusting to the boarding school life was not easy for Lei. His shy nature made it difficult for him to connect with his classmates and he often felt like an outsider. The pressure and loneliness increased until one day Lei told his teacher about his feeling and thoughts. Concerned about Lei’s health, the teacher immediately reached out to his parents, expecting them to have a heart-to-heart conversation with their son. Ella loved her school life. However, there was one class Ella worried about more than any other class-art. She didn’t know why she just wasn’t good at drawing, painting, or cutting. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t seem to master the skills.
Ms. Amanda, the art teacher, stood at the front of the room. “Class, next Friday our school is going to hold an art competition,” she announced. Ms. Amanda was a great teacher, and Ella liked her a lot. But this announcement made Ella nervous. “Everyone in the school will have to create a piece of artwork to show in the library. You can use the different types of artwork we have been studying.” Ms. Amanda was quite excited when she spoke while Ella found herself sinking lower in her chair.
Ella had the whole weekend to work on her project, but she could not think of anything to do. As Friday drew near, Ella felt frightened. She knew she couldn’t draw or paint well enough to make something that would stand out. So after school Ella asked Ms. Amanda if she could write an art paper instead of doing an art project.
“I understand this project scared you, Ella,” Ms. Amanda said. “Just remember, you can create any kind of art you want.” Ms. Amanda smiled at her: “Art is a person’s way of expressing his or her feelings. It isn’t always painting, drawing, or cutting. I know you will think of something very creative, and I can’t wait to see it.”
Ella finally decided to face her fears and give it a try. When Ella arrived home, she took out a piece of paper and a pencil. She remembered Ms. Amanda’s words. “Art is a person’s way of expressing his or her feelings.” Ella wrote the word “terrified” on her paper. She crumpled (揉皱) the paper and threw it to the side of her desk.

【答案】“What did my father express to me in the other letters?” I wondered. I picked up another letter and read it, “Son, I’m really proud of you every day, every minute, and every second.” After I read all the letters, tears rushed out of my eyes. I was touched by my dad’s deep love for me and felt so regretful for not valuing it! Later, my dad sent me a message, saying happy birthday to me. A few days later, I made a decision to head for my hometown. I packed my things and went to the airport to meet my dad after so many years. “Will he be happy to see me? How will I face him?” I asked myself.
Soon the airplane got to the city my father lived in. I took a taxi and arrived at my dad’s house and saw him sitting alone in the yard. He looked up and rose in surprise and with delight. He hugged me and cried before I could even greet him. “I’ve been waiting for your coming every single day, son!” he wept on my shoulder. I quit the job in California and lived with my dad. I realized money isn’t everything. It cannot buy things that are as precious as love and family.

【答案】参考范文:
I decided it was time to make things change. Recalling the practice of giving the kids control over their souvenir money was effective, I applied the same principle to Mike’s clothing problem. That night, I called Mike to the kitchen table. I slid an envelope toward him, “This is your clothing budget — enough for half a year. The other half would come six months later.” Mike’s eyes got big. “So... if I spend it all now, I get nothing later?” “Exactly,” I said. Mike suddenly sat up straighter as if ready to make his responsible choices.
The idea worked well. Months passed, and Mike’s new jacket stayed with him. He even started keeping track of his sweatshirts, something I’d never seen before. One evening, he proudly announced he’d saved enough money to buy extra gloves. I hid a smile. The lesson went beyond clothes; Mike learned that responsibility meant ownership. Meanwhile, Kate, observing her brother, began managing her own belongings better. The house was quieter, my wallet became “happier”, and the kids were growing up step by step, one small, smart choice at a time.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Absorbed in the photos, I didn’t notice Mom standing beside me. She bent down and joined me. Pointing at a photo of Jimmy and me in the forest, both covered in mud, she whispered, “Remember how happy you were out there?” Guilt washed over me as I realized how much I missed those days with Jimmy. That night, I lay awake, thinking about everything I’d passed by while glued to the screen. I made a decision.
Early next morning, ball in hand, I knocked on Jimmy’s door. His sleepy eyes widened in surprise. “Want to play outside?” I asked. Jimmy nodded happily. We rushed to the woods, laughter echoing among the trees; we played ball in the open field, shouts mixing with bird chirps; we lay flat on the grass, clouds painting our dreams with ease. I suddenly felt a recovered sense of peace, a feeling brought not by the silly screen, but the company of loved ones.

【答案】 Unable to control her anger, “No dinner for you! Go to bed now!” My mother shouted. I stormed into my bedroom. Throwing myself onto the bed, I buried my face in the pillow. The house fell silent except for the faint clinking of dishes from the kitchen. Gradually, my anger dissolved into guilt as I recalled Mother’s messy hair and tired eyes. She had spent all afternoon preparing those special dishes I used to love. A sob escaped my throat when I remembered how she used to sing nursery rhymes while baking.
Then a thick, juicy smell of hamburgers greeted my nose. Cautiously opening the door, I saw Mother standing by the stove, her apron stained with ketchup. “I thought you might want this,” she said, placing the homemade burger beside my untouched dinner. Tears blurred my vision as I hugged her tightly. “I’m sorry, Mom. I shouldn’t have…” She stroked my hair gently, “Bad days happen, but my love for you never changes.” We sat together, sharing the burger and cookies, the warmth of understanding dissolving the day’s bitterness.

The next day, I went to see the old man and his wife.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I quickly got the old man and his wife into my car. I drove as fast as possible, checking on the woman nervously through the rearview mirror. She leaned weakly against her husband, who kept thanking me repeatedly. When we arrived at the hospital, I helped them register and accompanied them to the emergency room. The doctors rushed in to treat the woman, and the old man held my hand tightly, saying I was their savior that night. I stayed until her condition stabilized, realizing how a small act could mean so much to others.
The next day, I went to see the old man and his wife. The woman was resting comfortably, and her face lit up when she saw me. “You’re an angel,” she said, reaching for my hand. Her words touched me deeply. As I talked to them, I realized something: Though the hospital life was tough, it offered moments of real connection and purpose. I thought about the bank’s ease but found myself drawn to the hospital’s chaos — where every day might bring a chance to help someone. That’s when I knew my choice: I wanted to be a doctor, to be there for people in their darkest hours.

“Oh, no, Warren. She can’t have a flower. She isn’t a mom.” Emily replied.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
“Oh, no, Warren. She can’t have a flower. She isn’t a mom.” Emily replied. Warren’s face fell instantly, and his lip started to tremble. Catherine’s heart ached at the sight. She quickly knelt down and hugged him tightly, whispering, “It’s okay, honey. I know you love me, and that’s more precious than any flower.” But Warren pushed away gently, his eyes filled with determination. Without another word, he handed the flower for his mom to Catherine and ran off, leaving both women stunned.
Paragraph 2:
After they came back home, Warren went to the courtyard of the apartment building. Catherine watched him from the window, worried. He was searching around, picking up twigs and leaves. A while later, he came back with a big smile. He handed Catherine a “bouquet” made of twigs, leaves, and a few wildflowers he found. “Happy Mother’s Day,” he said, his eyes shining with pride again. Catherine’s eyes welled up with tears. She pulled him into a warm embrace, realizing that on this Mother’s Day, she had received the most special gift in the world.

【答案】
“And finally,” said Mr. Brown, the schoolmaster, at the end of the show, “we have a special award.” The entire audience turned their heads towards the stage with curiosity. As the curtains parted, Suzy Khan appeared, her face flushed with excitement. She held a stack of her beautiful posters in her hands. The crowd erupted in applause as she walked towards the front of the stage. Mr. Brown praised her for her exceptional talent and dedication to the talent show. Suzy beamed with pride, her eyes glistening with tears of joy.
Mr. Brown thanked her for all the wonderful posters and gave her a professional artist’s set as an award. When she accepted the gift, Suzy’s face lit up with a smile that reached her eyes. The boys in the audience, who had once mocked her, now applauded her with genuine admiration. Suzy turned to me with a grateful glance, her eyes shining with gratitude. That moment marked a turning point in her life at school. From then on, she was no longer an outsider; she was a part of our community, a talented and respected artist.

Passage 1
(24-25高一下·辽宁朝阳·期中)

【答案】参考例文
Before I could realize how fast one month went by, I was standing behind the start line of the sports meet. Seeing my classmates waving their hands as if about to run beside me, I no longer felt lonely or afraid. With the shot of the starting gun, I dashed out and ran as fast as I could, as if it were a 200-meter race. Soon I was out of breath and slowed down. Other runners passed me one by one, and gradually I had no idea how many of them were still behind me. My legs were getting heavier and heavier, and I might fall down at any moment. However, I suddenly heard Mary calling my name. My deskmate even ran along the track beside me and cheered for me at the same time, just like the month- long training we did together. Gritting my teeth, I pushed myself on step by step.
As expected, I was almost the last to cross the finish line. When I was wondering how to apologize for my poor performance, my classmates came around to hold my arms, helping me walk on my feet and not to sit down. I was surrounded, with all kinds of drinks handed to me. The kind of warmth that I felt at the very moment stayed fresh on my mind. Obviously, one month certainly couldn’t make me a good runner, but I was full of confidence that I would improve in the future. Sports are not about winning or losing competitions, but bringing me close to my classmates and helping us grow together.

I stood there frozen as Justin was handed his medal. My chest tightened, and tears blurred my vision. Mom rushed over, wrapping her arms around me. “You did an amazing job, Sammy!” she whispered. Justin glanced at me, his tomato cheeks now softened into a shy smile. “You were so fast,” he said, offering a high-five. Hesitating, I slapped his hand weakly. The coach approached, placing a hand on my shoulder. “Second place is still a victory,” he said. I stared at the empty hook on my wall, imagining the medal that wouldn’t hang there. Dad stood silently nearby, his eyes filled with pride mixed with concern.
Suddenly, strong hands lifted me onto Dad’s shoulders. “Look around, champ,” he said. The crowd was cheering wildly — not just for Justin, but for every runner. “Winning isn’t about medals,” Dad continued. “It’s about pushing your limits.” From that height, I saw Sarah hugging her mom and Mikey laughing with friends. Justin waved at me, his medal glinting. I took a deep breath and clapped along with the crowd. Later, as we ate ice cream, Mom said, “Next year, that hook will be ready again.” I nodded, realizing the race had taught me something brighter than a ribbon.

They consulted on this matter, and eventually had to make a difficult decision. Dylan and Emily knew that their wedding fund was meant for their special day, but they couldn’t ignore the helpless dog in need. They decided to use the money they had saved for their wedding to pay for Acklin’s medical expenses. It wasn’t an easy choice, but they felt it was the right thing to do. They comforted each other with the thought that they could have sufficient time to save money and plan for their wedding again.
Several days later, Dylan and Emily planned to pick up Acklin and bring her home. They were both excited and nervous, wondering how Acklin would react to her new family members. When they arrived at the animal hospital, they were greeted by a small, but spirited dog who seemed to be recovering well. The vets had successfully treated her injuries and although one of her legs was cut off, she was still able to move around. Acklin wagged her tail and licked their faces, showing her gratitude. Dylan and Emily knew that this little dog had brought a new meaning to their lives, and they couldn’t wait to give her the love and care.

Then the bikeathon began. As I pushed off down the hill, the wind rushed past my face, and my heart pounded wildly. The first few miles were thrilling, but soon, my legs began to ache, and doubt flashed through my mind. “Can I really make it?” I wondered. I felt like giving up. Every mile ahead became a challenge for me. I slowed down and almost stopped. Ryan, riding beside me, noticed my hesitation. “You’re doing great, Mom! Just keep going!” he said. Besides, other bikers passing by me also cheered me.
Encouraged by Ryan and other bikers, I regained (重新获得) my energy. Taking a deep breath, I focused on the beat of my riding, just like how my kindergarten kids followed the beat of the counting song. The pain in my legs was still there, but the cheers around me made it feel lighter. Mile after mile, I pushed forward, repeating Ryan’s words in my head: “You can do it, Iron Mommy!” When I finally crossed the finish line, my heart was filled with pride. I had done it. That day, I truly became Ryan’s “iron mommy”.

Passage 1
And his mother remembered the words of her favourite teacher “Love is the feeling to help someone when he is in need, knowing there would be barriers” .

Then came the day when Rohan had to leave home to study abroad.

【答案】One possible version 1
His mother allowed that puppy to stay with them. Surprised but overjoyed, Rohan thanked his mother and then found a warm place to settle him. About two hours later, the trembling puppy recovered and became full of life. He looked so cute and adorable that Rohan fell in deep love with him immediately. From then on, apart from feeding and walking him, Rohan played with him and even trained him to behave well every day after school. Gradually, he became attached to Rohan and familiar with the whole family.
Then came the day when Rohan had to leave home to study abroad. Worried about his companion, Rohan hated to part from the family. Sensing Rohan’s unease, his mother went over and told him that she was willing to take care of him during his absence. She also said she knew he needed them and that there should be no barrier to love. Deeply moved and grateful, Rohan hugged his mother. The dog wagged his tail around them, seeming to understand what was happening. With his bags packed, Rohan said good-bye to his family and set out on his journey with great relief.
One possible version 2
His mother allowed that puppy to stay with them. Rohan thanked his mother many times, rushed into the bathroom (puppy in hand) and showered the puppy. From then on Rohan and the puppy accompanied each other, played and grew together. At first, the little creature was cautious and shy, but gradually he became familiar with the family and accepted “Puppy” as his name. Every morning Puppy would see Rohan off to school reluctantly. Every evening he would welcome Rohan back home, wagging his tail and licking Rohan passionately. The two were just like peas and carrots.
Then came the day when Rohan had to leave home to study abroad. He repeatedly asked his mother to take good care of Puppy before he tore himself away from home. Mom took over his daily routine. She and Puppy accompanied each other and played with each other. Every morning and evening she would walk Puppy to the park and the two had great fun. One evening, when Rohan video-called his mother, Puppy appeared on the screen, licking his mother’s cheeks now and the screen then. Seeing this, Rohan thanked his mother wholeheartedly. “Son, he needs us.” his mother stroked Puppy on the head, smiling, “and we need him.”

This emotional struggle began to affect Lei’s schoolwork. Once as a curious and eager student, Lei found himself losing interest in his studies.
Passage 3
(24-25高一下·黑龙江哈尔滨·期中)
Then Ella stared at the crumpled ball. Suddenly an idea struck her.

【答案】 Why not create something out of crumpled paper? The crumpled paper reminded her of a snowball. Ella didn’t have to draw or paint or even cut. Ella made many paper balls, glued them all together, and placed them on a big piece of hard paper to form a snowman. The snowman wore a hat made of black paper and a scarf made of red paper. Her finished project was really wonderful.
On Friday, Ella carefully carried her project into the library. She noticed the smile and the nods from teachers and other students as she put her work on a table. Ms. Amanda walked over to Ella. “You have created a creative piece of artwork. I am so proud of you!” Ms. Amanda said. Ella was proud of herself too. Her pride grew when Ms. Amanda placed a first-place star on her artwork. “Maybe I am a good artist after all,” Ella thought.
