3 What similar stories do you know?
Learning to think for question 3 It’s important to compare teams in different stories and then form your own understanding.
1 What kind of person do you think Liu Lianman was?
What role did he play in his team?
I think Liu Lianman was selfless, strong and determined. He tried many times to climb the last few metres of the Second Step, even when he was tired and weak. When he couldn’t go on, he helped his teammates by becoming a “human ladder”. He gave up his own chance to reach the top so that his team could succeed. This shows he cared more about the team than himself, and he never gave up easily. He played a key role in his team. He was a helper and supporter.

What role did he play in his team?
3 What similar stories do you know?
Yes, they made a great team. They supported each other, shared responsibilities and worked together to overcome challenges, even in life-threatening situations.

Step 2: Write your story with the help of the chart.
The Chinese women’s basketball team won the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in Sydney, Australia, on 2 July 2023. It was their first championship in 12 years.
The final was a hard and challenging game because the Japanese team was very strong. To make things worse, the Chinese captain was hurt in the last game and couldn’t play. The game started neck and neck, and the Chinese team fell behind at times. However, they had to carry on. With strong will and teamwork, they fought hard, scored the key points and won the game with a narrow victory of 73−71 in the end.
They were a great team because they worked together and helped each other. The captain encouraged her teammates from the sidelines. The teammates, even without their captain on the court, played as one. Their teamwork was their greatest strength and the key to their success.

在中国人民在珠穆朗玛登上去了以后,就是这一精神在鼓舞着战胜这个困难。菊花脚趾头、两个脚后跟都去掉了。用我这一双脚来换取我们当年攀登祖母那么的胜利,我觉得很值得。
