Here are some places of public art in Santa Cruz County in California, USA. Community Quiltage Located downtown Santa Cruz, the Community Quiltage by artist Thomas Campbell puts Abbott Square and Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH) in colorful imagery. Beside the Quiltage is Beacon, an eye-catching hanging sculpture (雕像) reflected by mirrors, providing the image of a full circle. Sharky-Go-Round At the Tannery Art Center, you won’t want to miss Kirk McNeil’s interactive (互相影响的) piece, Sharky-Go-Round. The playful art around the Tannery will have you feeling like a kid again. Against a blue sky, Sharky-Go-Round will make you feel like you’re under the waves of the nearby Monterey Bay, looking at these sharks as they “swim” above you. Watsonville Brillante Truly a community effort, Watsonville Brillante is an ongoing project, led by artist and organizer Kathleen Crocetti. Designed by varying artists, the project represents the different cultural threads of Watsonville’s people and history. The community has come together to work on these pieces, changing an ordinary parking garage into a quilt of imagery. To Honor Surfing Walking along scenic West Cliff Drive, you’ll come across a Santa Cruz classic: the famous To Honor Surfing, sculpted in 1992 by Jeff Oberdorfer, and this surfer has been watching over the waves for over 30 years. And a fun little note: depending on the season or holiday, you just might find the “surfer” in some festival clothes, like Santa hat or pumpkin head. 1. Where can a visitor see the artwork by artist Thomas Campbell? A. At West Cliff Drive. B. In Tannery Art Center. C. In downtown Watsonville. D. In downtown Santa Cruz. 2. Which artwork will have interactive effect with the visitors? A. Community Quiltage. B. To Honor Surfing. C. Sharky-Go-Round. D. Watsonville Brillante. 3. Whose artwork has been standing watching over the waves? A. Kirk McNeil’s. B. Jeff Oberdorfer’s. C. Kathleen Crocetti’s. D. Thomas Campbell’s. B In my early teens, I was once given a film (胶卷) camera as a gift. On receiving it, I jumped on my bike and took photos, just for me. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture (捕捉) its beauty. Rushing home, I put the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, eager to see how it would come out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze (冻住,定格) the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing. As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change. I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I’ve taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight (高兴). 4. What did the author think of photography as a teenager? A. Encouraging and practical. B. Exciting and rewarding. C. Difficult but interesting. D. Tiring but delightful. 5. Why did the author stop taking photos according to paragraph 2? A. He was busy with his work. B. He was struck by sudden sorrow. C. He experienced increasing pressure. D. He attempted to behave like an adult. 6. What did the author get from picking up his hobby? A. Better skills of observation. B. New journeys in the wild. C. Different styles of photography. D. More enjoyment in the daily routine. 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Admiring Beauty Behind the Lens. B. Rediscovering Lost Childhood Memories. C. Escaping Teenage Sadness with Camera. D. Regaining Pleasure Through Photography. C Teenagers have long been told that being active and taking part in various sports is good for their health. But new research suggests that too much sport for teenagers could negatively affect their well-being just as much as too little sport. Researchers from Switzerland say their study suggests that 14 hours of physical activity a week is best for promoting good health in teenagers. However, they found that more than 14 hours appears to be detrimental to their health. To reach their findings, the researchers surveyed more than 1,245 teenagers aged between 16 and 20 from Switzerland. All participants were required to answer questions on height and weight, sports practice, sports injuries and well-being. Their well-being was assessed (评估) using the World Health Organization (WHO) Well-Being Index, and the average well-being score for all participants was 17. The researchers divided sports participation into low (0-3.5 hours a week), average (3.6-10.5 hours), high (10.6-17.5 hours), and very high (more than 17.5 hours). The researchers found that participants in the low and very high activity groups were more than twice as likely to have well-being scores below 13, compared with participants in the average group. The researchers found that the highest well-being scores were gotten by participants who carried out around 14 hours of physical activity a week, but exercising beyond 14 hours resulted in lower well-being scores. Commenting on their findings, the researchers say physical activity has been connected with positive emotional well-being, reduced sadness, anxiety and stress disorders, and improved self-respect in teenagers. The researchers suggest that their study stresses the importance for physicians caring for teenagers to check their level of sports practice and ask them about their well-being. Teenagers probably need a supportive and closer follow-up of their health and well-being. The findings can provide information for guideline groups who produce recommendations on sports practice for teenagers. 8. What does the underlined word “detrimental” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Normal. B. Helpful. C. Harmful. D. Necessary. 9. What is paragraph 4 mainly about concerning the study? A. Its impact. B. Its findings. C. Its limitations. D. Its application. 10. We can infer from the passage ______. A. researchers are planning a follow-up study B. guideline groups have set new rules for teenagers C. how much teens exercise matters for their well-being D. physicians should recommend sports practice for teens 11. Where is this text probably taken from? A. A storybook. B. A fitness diary. C. A sports magazine. D. A fashion newspaper. D You’ve heard that plastic (塑料) is polluting the oceans — between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes enter ocean ecosystems every year. But does one plastic straw (吸管) or cup really make a difference? Artist Benjamin Von Wong wants you to know that it does. He builds massive sculptures out of plastic garbage, forcing viewers to re-examine their relationship to single-use plastic products. At the beginning of the year, the artist built a piece called “Strawpocalypse,” a pair of 10-foot-tall plastic waves, frozen mid-crash. Made of 168,000 plastic straws collected from several volunteer beach cleanups, the sculpture made its first appearance at the Estella Place shopping center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Just 9% of global plastic waste is recycled. Plastic straws are by no means the biggest source of plastic pollution, but they’ve recently come under fire because most people don’t need them to drink with and, because of their small size and weight, they cannot be recycled. Every straw that’s part of Von Wong’s artwork likely came from a drink that someone used for only a few minutes. Once the drink is gone, the straw will take centuries to disappear. In a piece from 2018, Von Wong wanted to illustrate (证明) a specific statistic: Every 60 seconds, a truckload’s worth of plastic enters the ocean. For this work, titled “Truckload of Plastic,” Von Wong and a group of volunteers collected more than 10,000 pieces of plastic, which were then tied together to look like they’d been dumped (倾倒) from a truck all at once. Von Wong hopes that his work will also help pressure big companies to reduce their plastic footprint (足迹). “I honestly think that a growing number of people will care,” he said. “As long as more people care, we’re going to make a difference.” 12. What is the function of Von Wong’s sculptures? A. To beautify city environments. B. To introduce plastic recycling methods. C. To draw public attention to plastic pollution. D. To promote the use of plastic products. 13. Why are plastic straws criticized? A. They are difficult to collect. B. They are not recyclable. C. They are the biggest plastic pollutant. D. They are widely used in drinking. 14. What does the statistic in Paragraph 4 show? A. The seriousness of ocean plastic pollution. B. The difficulty of collecting plastic waste. C. The popularity of Von Wong’s works. D. The harm of single-use plastic products. 15. What can we infer from Von Wong’s words? A. Companies will soon reduce plastic use. B. People’s care matters in fighting plastic pollution. C. Plastic pollution will be solved in the near future. D. More artists will join in creating plastic artworks. How to write a movie review Whether a movie is a dull or a brilliant work of art, if people are watching it, it’s worth critiquing (评论). My heart raced with excitement and fear. For as long as I can remember, I had been a shy and quiet girl, afraid of speaking in public. Deep inside, however, English had always been my favorite subject. I got up early every morning to read English articles aloud and kept writing diaries in English to improve myself. My English teacher noticed my hard work and potential, and she strongly encouraged me to take part in the contest. “Stepping out of your comfort zone is the first step to real growth,” she said gently. After struggling for days, I made up my mind to challenge myself and signed up for it. I chose the topic Face Your Fear and Be Brave. But the road to progress was never smooth. Whenever I practiced the speech in front of the mirror, I would easily get nervous and forget my lines. I stammered (口吃) again and again, and I even wanted to give up many times. The big day finally arrived. Looking at the crowded hall and the shining stage lights, I felt my legs weak and my mind blank. My heart beat so fast that I could hardly breathe. Paragraph 1: Just as I was about to step back and escape from the hall, I saw my English teacher smiling and nodding at me. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: When I finished my last sentence, the whole hall erupted into thunderous applause. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 禹州第三高级中学集萃校区高一下学期 第一次校内质量检测 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 1. C 9. B 10. C 11. 划线词的上文“Researchers from Switzerland say their study suggests that 14 hours of physical activity a week is best for promoting good health in teenagers. (瑞士的研究人员表示,他们的研究结果表明,每周进行14小时的体育锻炼对青少年保持健康最为有益。)”提到每周14小时体育活动对青少年健康最有益,画线词所在句用“However (然而)”表示转折,说明超过14小时会带来相反效果,所以划线词detrimental的意思应该是“有害的”,与Harmful意思相近。故选C项。 【9题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第四段中“The researchers found that participants in the low and very high activity groups were more than twice as likely to have well-being scores below 13, compared with participants in the average group. The researchers found that the highest well-being scores were gotten by participants who carried out around 14 hours of physical activity a week, but exercising beyond 14 hours resulted in lower well-being scores. (研究人员发现,低活动量组和极高活动量组的参与者,其幸福感得分低于13分的比例是平均水平组的两倍多。研究人员还发现,每周进行约14小时体育活动的参与者幸福感得分最高,但超过14小时的锻炼会导致幸福感得分降低。)”可知,该段主要介绍了该研究的具体发现,包括不同运动时长分组与青少年幸福感得分之间的关系。故选B项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“The researchers found that participants in the low and very high activity groups were more than twice as likely to have well-being scores below 13, compared with participants in the average group. (研究人员发现,低活动量组和极高活动量组的参与者,其幸福感得分低于13分的比例是平均水平组的两倍多。)”可知,青少年运动量过多或过少都会降低幸福感。由此推断,青少年运动量的多少对其幸福感有重要影响。故选C项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“But new research suggests that too much sport for teenagers could negatively affect their well-being just as much as too little sport. (但新的研究表明,对于青少年来说,运动量过大与运动量过少一样,都会对他们的身心健康产生负面影响。)”可知,本文介绍了一项关于青少年运动时长与幸福感关系的科学研究,并讨论了其对医学指导和健康建议的潜在意义,文章聚焦于运动、健康与研究,很可能选自一本体育杂志。故选C项。 D You’ve heard that plastic (塑料) is polluting the oceans — between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes enter ocean ecosystems every year. 12. C 13. B 14. A 15. Unfortunately 41. popularity 42. what 43. was walking 44. a 45. surrounded 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 故填which。 故填to show。 此处为with的复合结构,且lie与a sleeping village and a dark, lonely tree构成主动关系,故用现在分词作宾补。 故填had been affected。 故填what。 be doing...when... 故填was walking。 短语a series of表示“一系列”。故填a。 ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Dear Mr. Smith, I’m Li Hua, a student from Class 2, Grade 3. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Just as I was about to step back and escape from the hall, I saw my English teacher smiling and nodding at me. Her eyes were full of trust and encouragement, as if telling me “You can do it”. Those warm smiles gave me the courage I needed badly. I took a deep breath, calmed myself down, and walked steadily onto the stage. With my hands slightly shaking, I started my speech. When I forgot my lines halfway, I looked at my teacher again, and her encouraging eyes helped me recall the words quickly. I spoke slowly but firmly, pouring all my feelings into the topic of facing fears. When I finished my last sentence, the whole hall erupted into thunderous applause. I stood there, surprised and moved, tears welling up in my eyes. My English teacher walked towards me, giving me a big hug and saying “I’m so proud of you”. That moment, I realized that facing fear bravely is not as difficult as I thought. Stepping out of my comfort zone brought me not only praise but also growth. This experience taught me a valuable lesson: as long as we have the courage to try, we will never regret it, and we will find our own shine. 词汇激活 行为类 ①颤抖:shake/ tremble ②涌出:welled up /streamed out ③意识到:realized/ was aware of 情绪类 ①坚定地:firmly /resolutely ②惊讶的:surprised/ amazed 【点睛】[高分句型1]When I forgot my lines halfway, I looked at my teacher again, and her encouraging eyes helped me recall the words quickly.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2] I spoke slowly but firmly, pouring all my feelings into the topic of facing fears.(运用了非谓语动词中的现在分词pouring作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
