You should be on stage with your uncle and it will do you good to 15 something different for a change.” Mom replied. “And we should start early. I’m sure there’ll be many people in the theater. Traditional Japanese theater doesn’t come to town every day.” added Dad.
Andy sighed. He thought about the long, painful evening ahead. He had no idea what kind of performance Uncle Togashi was in, but he was sure he wouldn’t like it.
When they got there, Andy found his dad was wrong. The audience was not

Then the theater darkened. The curtain went up.
The whole performance felt as if it were taking place on some far-off planet. Andy loved the story and the music was so amazing that it was like nothing he had ever heard.

三、阅读理解(共26分,每小题2分)
第一节
A
Meg, Rudy and Hayley have some problems with their learning. They ask E-teacher for help. Read and match the problems with the advice given by E-teacher.
Problems
Advice
21. ______
Meg
Hi, E-teacher. I share a bedroom and a desk with my elder sister. She continually distracts(使...分心) me because she’s noisy. I think she’s disrespectful. I’ve got exams in two weeks and I need to go over my lessons. I can’t focus when she’s studying too. If I try to have a dialogue with my sister, she gets angry. Can you help?
22. ______
Rudy
My problem is time – or lack(缺乏) of it! Next month I’ve got 12 exams in three weeks. How can I possibly study for all of them? I think it’s impossible.
23. ______
Hayley
My problem is silly and a bit embarrassing. I just find it hard to study. I always stop and start and I keep getting the impression that I’m learning the wrong things. I don’t think you can really help me.
A
Your problem is real and lots of people experience the same thing as you. Sometimes things improve if they join a study group. Set up a group and meet a few days a week after school to study together. Take turns to give presentations and teach others what you know. It’s a good practice for lots of students.
B
It’s common to have such stress. I think it’s helpful for you to talk about it with your teachers and good friends. They will help. Believe me!
C
It isn’t impossible but you DO have to get started NOW. Make a study plan and highlight(用亮色突出) study time for each subject. Make a detailed(详尽的) plan for this week and then do the same for the weeks ahead. It’s better to study for an hour or so a day than just once a week, all day. Your brain needs time to process information.
D
I think you could study at the local library, cultural centre or community center a few days a week. Make sure you’ve got enough space for everything on your desk. If it’s easier to write instead of talking face to face, try messaging her and explain how terrible you feel.
第二节 阅读下列短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选择最佳选项。

When I was five years old. I took a boat out on the river and went fishing by myself. I really wanted to catch a fish! But they were not biting.
I stayed in my boat for three days, waiting. A few times, I thought I felt a fish at the end of the line. The first time I pulled in my catch, it was not a fish; it was an old bag. The second time, it was a shoe. Finally, at the end of the third day, I felt a strong pull at the end of the line. The pull was so strong they my boat raced around and around. I needed all my power just to hold onto the fishing rod. I pulled, and I pulled and I caught the biggest fish that ever swam on the Earth! It was heavier than everyone in this room put together! Then something terrible happened!
After I pulled the huge fish into my boat, I saw that the boat was going under water! Water was coming into the boat from all sides! I was not a very good swimmer, so I was scared.
Although it was the hardest choice I ever made. I had to let the fish go. I pushed it back over the side of the boat, and we waved good-bye to each other as it swam away.
24.How long did the writer spend in his boat?
A. Two days. B. Two hours C. Three days D. Three hours

Now few businesses can run without computers. School even offer lessons for their students to learn to write on computers. But what are we giving up am handwriting loses in importance in society?
Researchers from Princeton University studied two group of students. One group wrote out their notes in class while the other typed them with a computer. In order to show the differences between the two groups, researchers tested both groups of students 30 minutes after a lesson, and again a week later.
The results showed that both group did well in the first lest. But students with the handwritten notes were able to better remember and understand the lesson a week later, and were more open to new ideas
According to the lead researcher. “Our findings suggest that even when computers are used as planned, they may still cause harm to your learning.”
Part of the reason for this is that notetakers using pen and paper could understand the lesson better and put what they heard in their own words Those taking notes on a computer typed faster, but they always tried to type every word exactly as they heard it, so they didn't really pay enough attention to the content of the lesson. That's the problem Students chose to take notes with a computer because it could help them take notes faster, but it undermined learning.
Computers aren't going away anytime so0n, but that doesn't mean paper notebooks need to become out-of-date. In fact, its best to start using them at an early age. University of Indiana researchers compared brain scans of five-year-olds. Some of them practised writing letters down and some just looked at the letters Those who wrote out the letters had better and even " adult-like' brain activity.
So next time when you need to take notes, why not chose a pen and paper over a keyboard? It will do wonders for your memory.
27.Paragraph 3 mainly tells us
A. how difficult the teste were B. what the research showed us
C. when the research finished D. why students needed the tests
28.The underlined words undermined learning probably mean "____________"
A. helped to learn B. made learning fun
C. harmed learning D. made learning natural
29.What can we learn from the passage?
A. It took both groups of students 30 mimtes to finish the first test.
B. Looking at the letters help five-year-olds have better brain activity.
C. Student taking notes on a computer could type every word exactly,
D. Students with the handwritten notes did better in the lest a week later.
30.The writer probably agrees that ________ .
A. handwriting makes people smarter
B. it’s better to take notes on computer
C. handwriting is going away from class soon
D. it’s difficult to use paper notes at an early age

A team of scientists from Ohio State University did experiments on 33 volunteers who were getting better from heart disease following operation. They found that people who exercised while listening to Italian musician Antonio Vivaldi’s : “The Four Seasons” did much better on language ability tests than without music.
“Facts suggest that exercise improve the learning ability of people with heart disease,” said the psychologist Charles Emery, who led the study. “And listening to music is thought to enhance understanding. We just wanted to put the two results together,” he added.
The volunteers said they felt better emotionally and physically after working out with or without the music. But their improvement on the test doubled after listening to music during exercise. Scientists have proved that music can be good for health, education and well-being. It helps reduce stress, sadness and nervousness: encourages relaxation or sleep: wakes up the body and improves memory and thoughts.
In medical fields, music is used widely for patients who have had head hurts before and after operation. “The Four Seasons” was used because of its moderate tempo (舒缓的节拍) and positive results in earlier research. “Exercise seems to cause positive changes in the nervous system (神经系统) and these changes may have a direct result on learning ability,” Emery said.
Scientists have been studying the results of music on understanding since the early 1950s. By 1990, psychologists were using Mozart’s music, especially his violin pieces, to help children with speech disorders, Mozart was chosen because his music is not over-exciting and has clear structures. A study showed students who listened to Mozart went on to score higher marks in an intelligence test. With important exams drawing near, your parents will not probably allow you to listen to music. But perhaps now you have good reasons to argue with them.
31.The underlined word “enhance” can be replaced by _______.
A. impress B. improve C. provide D. produce
32.The text is mainly about that ________.
A. music and exercise lead to relaxation or sleep
B. 33 volunteers work on music in medical fields
C. exercise to music makes people healthy and bright
D. scientists give suggestions on choosing music to exercise
33.It can be learned from the last paragraph that ____.
A. you are supposed to follow your parents’ words
B. students should not listen to music before exams
C. you have some good reasons to exercise to music
D. music might help you to get higher grades in tests
第二部分

四、阅读表达(34—36题每题2分,37题4分,共10分)
Several young people from China and abroad are jogging (慢跑) through Beijing’s hutong while picking up waste and bottles with big clamps (夹子) and bags in their hands.
These young people are taking part in a competition of picking up waste while jogging. It is a team activity organized by Plogging Beijing, a social group focusing on fitness and public benefits.
Miro, 24, born in Hamburg of Germany, is the fastest runner picking up the greatest amount of waste. Upon arriving at the finish line, Miro clapped with his teammates and then began to sort (分类) the waste.
“When jogging and picking up waste I get a chance to enjoy beautiful scenery along these old hutongs. I’m proud to be a member of the team,” Miro said.
“Our group was established (成立) last year,” said Zhang Yashi, organizer of Plogging Beijing. Zhang and his friends enjoy jogging around the Forbidden City at night. Last year, he came across plogging online, which originated (起源) in Sweden and combined (结合) the Swedish words for “picking up” and “jogging”.
“It sounded more interesting than only jogging, so we gave it a try,” Zhang said. On the first night, he and his friends picked up three bags of waste around the Forbidden City, which gave them a sense of achievement (成就感).
By posting pictures online, they attracted (吸引) a small following. “We only had four people at first, but now we have about 700 members in our team,” Zhang said.
“We have received great support, and some companies even bought bags, uniforms, clamps for us,” Zhang said.
To attract more people, new elements such as puzzles, hiking and promotion (提升) of waste classification knowledge have been added to their outings. To make the activity safe and efficient, Zhang often chooses places like the paths surrounding the Forbidden City, traditional hutong and parks with few cars and large amounts of garbage.
This time, the activity was held in South Luogu Lane (南锣鼓巷), a famous business center in Beijing with many tourists. “The litter we picked up this year is less than last year,” Zhang said.
“I’m really happy that more and more young people can enjoy themselves in this activity, the social influence of the activity is more important than the activity itself,” said Zhang.
34. What competition are these young people taking part in?
35. How many members are there in the jogging team now?
36. Which places does Zhang often choose when he organizes the activity?
37. Do you want to take part in the activity of Plogging Beijing? Why or why not? (At least 2 reasons. )
