Lesson1 Listening & Speaking
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
Language Ability:Pronounce and use core vocabulary about money and payment phrases accurately; complete dialogues and listening tasks with given sentence patterns; extract key information about travel plans from listening materials.
Thinking Quality:Develop matching thinking by associating currencies with corresponding countries; cultivate rational consumption judgment by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of different payment methods.

1.Watch the video about the different currencies of different countries.
Look at the pictures of different currencies and teach some new words.
Think:Which country does each currency belong to?
2.Practice more.
3.Watch the video. Explore different ways to pay!
4.Match each currency with its country or region. Then check the answers.
(1)Read the sentences in 1B and match them with the pictures at the top of the next page. Then check the answers.
(2)Think about other ways of payment in our daily life. Speak them out.
(3)Read the sentences together.
(4)Take some notes.
Step 2: While-listening (10 mins)
1. Activity 1: Listen and Repeat (Pair Work)
Play the audio of the dialogue:
A: What kind of money do people use in the USA?
B: They use dollars.
A: In our country today, we pay with our mobile phones nearly everywhere. Which way of payment do they prefer?
B: They prefer to pay by credit card.
Ask students to listen and repeat, then replace the bold parts (e.g., the UK, Japan, by mobile phone, in cash) and practice with partners.
2.Show pictures of cameras, hotels, banknotes, banks, travel maps, and suitcases.
Ask: "What do you think of when you see these pictures? What do we need to prepare for a trip?"
Guide students to talk about travel preparation and lead in the topic: "A good trip starts with a good plan, especially a foreign travel. Today we'll talk about travel plans and payment."
2. Prediction
Show the incomplete table Li Xiang's Travel Plan:
Ask students to predict the missing information based on the topic and pictures.
3. Activity 2: Listen and Complete the Table
Play the conversation about Li Xiang's travel plan.
Ask students to listen and fill in the table:
Check answers together and explain key words.
Step 3: Post-listening (15 mins)
1. Activity 3: Role-play (Travel Interview)
Divide students into pairs: Student A (travel reporter) and Student B (Li Xiang).
Provide the example dialogue:
A: Hi Li Xiang! I heard you have a travel plan. When are you going to travel?
B: I'm going to travel this summer.
A: Wow, nice! Where are you going to visit?
B: I will visit Germany, Britain and some other countries.
A: That sounds great! What will you take with you?
B: I'll take some euros, pounds, Renminbi and a credit card.
A: Who will you go with?
B: I'll go with my grandparents.
A: Have a wonderful trip!
Encourage Student B to add details (e.g., I want to see castles in Germany, visit museums in Britain).
Invite 2-3 pairs to perform in front of the class.
2. Exercise: Fill in the Blanks
Give students the exercise to use the correct form of the given words:
Traveling abroad is an exciting experience. When you plan to visit 1.______ (Europe) countries like Germany or France, you need to take some euros. If you go to 2.______ UK, you'll use pounds. In China, we use yuan, and in the USA, people pay with 3.______ (dollar).
