Ⅰ.阅读理解
(2025·安徽师大附中检测)Every year, one wind blew from spring to winter and there were neither birds in the sky nor grass on the ground. This was a true picture of what Baijitan used to be seventy years ago.
Today, from the top of the sand hill in Baijitan, you can see green sandy plants growing here and there. Between the wind-break belts (挡风带), squares of wheat straw cover the sand hills like a huge golden net which firmly locks the formerly rushing yellow sand in.
How Ningxia has controlled the sands is a touching story. 70 years ago, the sky was usually filled with sands and yellow clouds. Even the cities hundreds of kilometers away were threatened. To stop the desert moving south, the central government gave an order to stop the desertification (沙漠化). In those years, people lacked food and clothing, but this didn’t weaken their courage and determination. So millions of people in Ningxia took action to fight against the desert.
There were no modern machines in the past. All they had were only their two hands besides simple tools. Braving the winter cold and the summer sun, they began to plant trees and grass. With several generations’ joint efforts, Ningxia has taken on a new look. The former desert has been turned into a green land with trees and grass, among which birds are singing and dancing happily in spring and summer.
Recently, a delegation (代表团) from the United Nations came to Ningxia and took a field trip. “This is not just a victory for the Chinese people,” said Mr. Smith, who is from Africa. “This provides a valuable lesson for many countries that are threatened by desertification.”

(2025·四川南充期末)When I was 16, my parents and I moved to a small town of Arizona. Since my parents were very busy at that time, my Aunt Julia often took care of me during their absence.
One rainy day, when Julia and I were heading toward home, I caught sight of an old lady wearing an orange jacket with a huge bag and a walking stick. Out of curiosity, I asked Julia, “Who is she? What is she doing with that huge bag?”
Julia caught a glimpse of her, then told me, “She is called Melinda. She has been collecting garbage with that huge garbage bag in the town for several years. Nobody knows why she’s been doing it. Maybe just for fun.” Hearing her words, I couldn’t help exclaiming, “Wow! It’s so strange! Why does she find it funny to collect garbage?”
Since that day, I had come across her many times on my way home. She always carried the huge garbage bag whether it was rainy or sunny. Gradually, I didn’t find her strange for collecting garbage. Instead, I began to greet her with a smile.
Two years later, I was admitted to Chicago University. To my disappointment, I often saw trash on the lawn on campus. “Why should people litter everywhere? Who is responsible for the trash?” A few days later, it occurred to me that, since nobody took responsibility for it, why not collect trash myself? That way, I could walk past the lawn without feeling guilty.
Then, I took action. I always took a trash bag and collected trash on the lawn every time I walked past it. A few students also followed suit soon afterwards, keeping the school cleaner and prettier than before.
One day, an idea popped into my head when I finished collecting trash — maybe we could help make the city cleaner and prettier too! Despite the thought that collecting trash in front of so many people outside school was awkward, I knew it was the right thing to do. So I decided to give it a go.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式作答。
One day, I was collecting garbage outside the school.
Then I realized that I should encourage more students to take part.

Our English Corner conducted a survey about the popular sports among our classmates.
The findings reveal that basketball is enjoyed by 15%, football by 19%, jogging by 25%, and table tennis by 30% respectively, with the remaining 11% preferring other activities. This data highlights the need for a diverse range of sports offerings.
We suggest that the school invest in better table tennis facilities, as it’s the most favored sport, and introduce more jogging events to engage the sizable portion of students who prefer it. Additionally, we encourage the school to consider the interests of all students by providing a broader range of sports in the physical education program.
Ⅴ.
One day, I was collecting garbage outside the school. Some people gave me a strange look, as if I were mad. All of a sudden, I thought of the old woman who used to collect garbage many years ago. It occurred to me that I was acting just like her. As strange as that may seem, collecting garbage was meaningful for me. Little by little, a lot of people came to realize that I was doing voluntary service to keep the town clean, and I was complimented and thanked.
Then I realized that I should encourage more students to take part. Surprisingly, they agreed and we founded a voluntary group. We gave each student a bright orange jacket with the message “Let’s Keep Our Town Cleaner!” We spent the time not just collecting trash, but also sorting it out and recycling it. The most wonderful thing was that all the people who were close to us were also doing their part! I said to myself, “This is what the old woman did for me. She has changed my life greatly.”
