Situational Lead-in
Step 1: Lead-in (5 mins)
1. Greet the students.
2. Discussion: Show the three questions on the PPT: “Are these actions OK in public places? What is your opinion? What will you do if you see them?”
3. Ask students to share their thoughts in pairs, then invite a few to share with the class.
4. Purpose: To activate students’ prior knowledge about public behavior and introduce the topic of public rules.

Step 2: Reading & Comprehension (12 mins)
1. First Reading: Ask students to read the passage quickly and answer the three questions:
A. How does spreading rumours affect others?
B. Why is littering considered a bad behaviour?
C. Do you think it is important to follow public rules? Why?
2. Second Reading (True or False): Have students read the passage again and complete the True or False exercise. Ask them to correct the false statements.
3. Case Study Discussion: Discuss each case (cutting in line, spreading rumours, littering) and ask students to share their own experiences or observations.
Step 3: Language Points (10 mins)
1. Explanation: Use the PPT to explain the key language points with clear examples:
- society: living in a society
- cut in line: an annoying behaviour that leads to arguments
- spread rumours: disrespectful, damages reputation
- litter: (v.) to litter; (n.) rubbish
- not only...but also...: both are affected
- make a mess: create disorder
- a sense of: a feeling of impatience
- lead to: cause
2. Practice: Complete the fill-in-the-blank exercise on the PPT (society, mess, litter, false, negative, ever). Check answers together.
Step 4: Pair Work & Group Work (13 mins)
1. Pair Work: Students work in pairs to discuss: “What will you do if you see someone cutting in line?” Use the dialogue structure on the PPT:
A: Will you tell him/her not to do it? Why?
B: Yes, because...
A: How will you stop him/her?
B: I will say...
2. Group Work: Students work in groups of 4-5 to write a proposal for students to follow public rules in school. Use the useful expressions provided in the PPT:
- Opening: We hope that everyone can... / It would be great if we could all... / We suggest that students should...
- Content: follow school rules, keep quiet in the library, wait in line, put rubbish in bins, etc.
- Closing: If we all do our part, our school will become a better place. / Let‘s start from now and take action together.
3. Presentation: Invite groups to present their proposals to the class. Vote for the most popular one.
Step 5: Summary & Homework (5 mins)
1. Summary: Review the three cases of breaking public rules and their consequences. Emphasize that following public rules protects people and the world around us.
2. Homework:
- Review the language points.
- Polish the group proposal and share it with your family.
- (Optional) Find a public rule in your community and write a short paragraph about why it is important.
