The service called the "personal campus Uber"made a comeback last month with the
rollout of "TripShot"-a new and convenient app.
The University's "Safe Ride"program serves to help students travel around the
University between the hours of 11 p.m.and 5 a.m.Prior to Feb.17,to use the program,
students had to call to request a car to pick them up.This method was used during a nearly
year-long hiatus (where Safe Ride's app was being updated. Now,students can
download the TripShot app on their phones to place a request for a ride.Students simply
need to open the app and select a pickup time and location.
Safe Ride operates by transporting students between a set of predetermined stops on
University property.A student can select any of these stops to be picked up and dropped
off.The program has also expanded operations to Whipple Park, the Eastman Living
Center, and the Medical Center. The new stops are designed to allow more than just
River Campus undergraduates to take advantage of the program.
According to Andrea Walton,a manager of transportation at the University,an
increase in Safe Ride requests has occurred since introducing the new app."We are seeing
higher usage since introducing the app,"Walton said."It's still very new,but we expect
continued growth as more students hear about the service and we continue our outreach
efforts.”

At more than 110 million years old,a fossil()unearthed in Brazil is the oldest
undoubted ant fossil ever discovered. The finding adds to evidence that the first ants
developed on the supercontinent of Gondwana in the southern hemisphere()before
spreading across the rest of the world.
"We have evidence that they were in South America-they were in Gondwana,
during their early development,"says Anderson Lepeco at the University of Sao Paulo in
Brazil.Lepeco came across the fossil in a large collection delivered to the university's
zoological museum. The specimens all came from the Crato Formation in north-east
Brazil, which formed during the Lower Cretaceous Period. He immediately suspected this
fossil was from an extinct group of insects called hell ants."That head shape was similar to one
species we found in Burmite,”he says.“This gave me the epiphany..”
Hell ants are particularly interesting because they represent a transitional "stem lineage"
they are more closely related to the wasp-like common ancestor of all ants than to the
species alive today, although they did have ant-like social structures, says Lepeco.
When the fossil was 3D checked, this revealed other characteristics that identified it
as a hell ant.For instance,it had forklift-like mandibles that may have enabled it to catch
other insects. In fact,it is this feature that gave the hell ant group its name.

The researchers named the new hell ant species Vulcanidris cratensis,in recognition
of the Brazilian entomologist Maria Aparecida Vulcano.Based on the rock in which it was
found, the researchers suspect the fossil is about 113 million years old,13 million years
older than the previous oldest known ant fossil.
"Before our new fossil, the earliest ants known as fossils were from France and
Myanmar,"says Lepeco.Finding such an ancient hell ant in South America matches
genomic(基因组的)evidence suggesting ants first appeared in the southern hemisphere
before getting throughout much of the rest of the world and establishing the dominant
ecological role they maintain today.
12.What does the underlined word "epiphany"in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Warning.B.Inspiration.
C.Explanation.
D.Instruction.
13.What do we know about hell ants?
A.They had no social structures.
B.They looked exactly like modern ants.
C.They were not ancestors of modern ants.
D.They were poor at locating food sources.
14.What does the discovery of the new fossil imply?
A.Ants'ecological role has changed a lot.
B.Genomic evidence about ants is wrong.
C.Ants first appeared in the northern hemisphere.
D.Ants spread globally from the southern hemisphere.
15.What can be a suitable title for the text?

A Joint Concert Performed in Our School
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As a child,my favorite activity was bicycle riding, but there was always some secret
dreams in my heart whenever I saw motorcycles passing by.My friends and I looked with
great envy at people with motorcycles, who rode without any efforts! And motorcycles
were the ultimate expression of cool,a symbol of adventure that we all long for.
On our bicycle travels,we often passed a small shop on a busy street with no name
on the door.It was Mark's Motorcycle Shop.Mark was a motorcycle mechanic.The
parking area of the shop was packed with old motorbikes in various states of repair.
Every time we passed,Mark would watch like a hawk ()His face had deep lines,
and his voice, when he spoke, was off-putting and unwelcoming.I'd grab my handlebars
tight, sweating,as if his mere presence could make my hair stand on end.Get too close,
and he'd scream,"DON'T TOUCH!GET OUT!!"His words rang in my ears long after
I rode off.Due to his unfriendly attitude,we called him Mad Mark, scared and distant.
Eventually,I graduated from high school and slipped a little Honda motorcycle under
my parents'safety oversight. One time it needed a tune-up,I had to wheel it into Mad
Mark's crowded little shop.The moment I arrived,my hands sweated.When his head
finally lifted,his eyes narrowed-to my surprise,not with anger,but curiosity."You're
the kid who used to ride past like a scared rabbit,"he joked, wiping his hands. Before I
could respond,he continued,“Bring it here.”
As he inspected the engine,I noticed the walls of his shop for the first time. They
were covered with faded photos of Mark racing motorcycles in the 1980s-smiling,and
obviously fearless."You...you used to race?"I questioned."Long time ago and before
the accident. He nodded toward his left leg, which ended in a prosthetic (below
the knee."After that,I figured fixing bikes was safer than riding them.He added.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
While fixing my bike,he went on to share with me his stories.
By the time he finished the repair,I was impressed by his stories and skills.
