Passage 2
The iPod Generation
Today it is common to see people who walk about with colored wires hanging from their ears wherever they go. They move about in their personal bubbles, sometimes unaware of what’s happening around them. 1 Outside life is shut out. So are you one of “them”?
For me, walking around in my own personal bubble is perfect. 2 What’s even better, wearing earphones seems to give a signal to people which says, “I’m not available for chatting at the moment!”
Suppose you’re at work and about to make an incredible breakthrough, but a colleague suddenly turns up. At this precise moment, the slightest disturbance would break your concentration. 3 Once again, those wires hanging from your ears would be sure to give that “Go away!” signal.
4 It’s probably part of the growing-up stage when they just want to ignore their whole family. While their mothers give them lectures about why they should do their homework, they can just turn up the volume on their MP3player, smile, and say “Yes, Mum.” Problem solved.
Pretty soon, not only will we have pretty colored wires hanging from our ears, but also our brains will be directly plugged into some new high-tech instruments. We’ll be in a virtual world, communicating with everyone else, or choosing not to, as we like. In this world, we will all be permanently plugged in. 5 And they are changing our social habits along the way.
In the end, there is a thin line between using technology as a tool for making life better and being a slave to it! It’s so strange — suddenly, I don’t feel like wearing my earphones anymore.
A.Our instruments are changing quickly.
B.I also have wires hanging from my ears.
C.In the home situation, teenagers love these wire.
D.I don’t have to deal with the noise from the environment.
E.After all, I am listening to my favourite music and would rather not be disturbed.
F.Listening to music through earphones is the perfect way to ignore such interruptions.
G.They walk around in their own spaces, with their personal “digital noise reduction systems”.
【答案】1.G 2.D 3.F 4.C 5.A

2.上文“For me, walking around in my own personal bubble is perfect.(对我来说,沉浸在自己的小世界里是完美的)”表明作者享受沉浸自我,D选项“I don’t have to deal with the noise from the environment.(我不必处理来自环境的噪音)”解释了作者觉得完美的原因,即戴耳机能隔绝外界噪音。故选D项。
3.上文“Suppose you’re at work and about to make an incredible breakthrough, but a colleague suddenly turns up. At this precise moment, the slightest disturbance would break your concentration.(假设你正在工作,准备取得一个令人难以置信的突破,但是一个同事突然出现了。就在这个关键时刻,最轻微的干扰都会打断你的注意力)”强调此时不能被打扰,F选项“Listening to music through earphones is the perfect way to ignore such interruptions.(通过耳机听音乐是忽略此类干扰的完美方式)”提出用耳机听音乐可以避免干扰,与上文衔接紧密。故选F项。

Passage 3
Advice to the Hard-working Girl
You are not a superwoman. No matter how much you think you could handle, sometimes you need to take a step back and realize when you’re taking on too much. No one wants to be the one to quit, but sometimes taking a break is necessary to get work done effectively.
Practice the following things to help you accomplish this:
1
In order to please everyone, you try to say “yes” and be nice, not knowing that you’re hurting yourself in the long run. Saying “yes” to everything adds pressure. You always need to make sure not to let anyone down and forget that you have to take care of yourself, too. 2 .
Take on what you can handle
Look, everyone knows you have the power to take on whatever you put your mind to, but don’t let that make you feel like you have to take on everything at once. 1 . For example, if there are twenty things you need to do, do ten today and ten at another time.
It’s all about balance
1 . Taking on too much at times makes you forget that there is a life to live. Everyone is proud of the work you’ve done but they miss you, too. Take a day to hang out with friends and family. The work will still be there, and balancing work with fun will actually make you more efficient.
Sleepless nights are awful
When it comes to not being able to sleep, it should be a wake-up call. 1 . Usually, when your mind is restless, it’s a sign that something is wrong. Over-stressing could be the reason why you're losing out on sleep and not sleeping makes you have a bad day. No one wants that, so don’t do it to yourself.
A.Take a deep breath
B.Stop saying “yes” to everything
C.You should learn to break things up
D.Work is good, but make sure to save time for fun
E.Keep that in mind when you try to be there for family
F.You should know you can say “no” when you feel overloaded
G.It means your body is off and you need to get it back in order
1.根据下文“In order to please everyone, you try to say “yes” and be nice, not knowing that you're hurting yourself in the long run. Saying “yes” to everything adds pressure(为了取悦每一个人,你试着说“好的”并且表现得友好,却不知道从长远来看你正在伤害自己。对所有事情都说“好的”会增加压力)”可知,上文说的是对所有事情都说“好的”会增加压力,可推理出本段主要讲的是不要对所有事情都答应,B项“Stop saying “yes” to everything(不要对所有事情都说“好的”)”能作为该段的小标题,故选B项。
2.根据上文“You always need to make sure not to let anyone down and forget that you have to take care of yourself, too.( 你总是需要确保不要让任何人失望,并且不要忘记你也必须照顾好自己)”可知,上文提到了不要忘记你也必须照顾好自己,可推理出空处应陈述要在感觉任务过多、不堪重负时,学会拒绝,照顾好自己,F项“You should know you can say “no” when you feel overloaded(当你感觉不堪重负时,你应该知道你可以说“不”)”是对上文的合理延伸,故选F项。
3.根据上文“but don't let that make you feel like you have to take on everything at once(但是不要让那种想法让你觉得你必须一次性承担所有事情)”和下文“For example, if there are twenty things you need to do, do ten today and ten at another time(例如,如果你有二十件需要做的事情,今天做十件,另找时间做另外十件)”可知,要学会把事情分解开,C项“You should learn to break things up(你应该学会把事情分解开)”符合语境,故选C项。
4.根据下文“Taking on too much at times makes you forget that there is a life to live. Everyone is proud of the work you’ve done but they miss you, too. Take a day to hang out with friends and family. The work will still be there, and balancing work with fun will actually make you more efficient(有时承担太多事情会让你忘记还有生活要过。
5.根据上文“When it comes to not being able to sleep, it should be a wake-up call(当涉及到无法入睡时,这应该是一个警示信号)”可知,当无法入睡时,这应该是一个警示信号,由此推知,空处应解释这个警示信号是什么。G项“It means your body is off and you need to get it back in order(这意味着你的身体出了问题,你需要让它恢复正常)”是对上文“警示信号”的具体解释,故选G项。
Passage 4
Caring for an aging parent can be overwhelming, especially when their needs seem endless. Jen learned this when she began helping her mother with new health problems. She felt guilty every time she wanted a break. 1 As care coach Deanna explains, only when you take better care of yourself can you also take better care of others. Here are several practical steps that can help.
Start by thinking clearly about what “boundaries” mean for you. 2 For Jen, the biggest problem was having to drive long distances every week for her mother’s doctor appointments. She solved this by calling in instead of going in person. It saved hours of travel time and greatly reduced her stress.
Once you know your limits, communicate them calmly and consistently. 3 Jen’s mom wasn’t happy; she stopped coming in person, but Jen reminded her that she could still ask questions and take notes by phone.
It’s also important to accept both your own feelings and the feelings of your loved ones. 4 Caregivers are human. It is normal to feel tired or upset, and protecting your own energy allows you to provide better care in the long run. Loved ones may want more help, but sometimes the answer has to be “no.”
Above all, do not give in to guilt. Boundaries are not about leaving someone alone — they help protect your energy so you can be truly helpful when needed. 5 Many people face the same problem and ask the same questions every day.
A.And remember, you are not alone.
B.Actually, setting boundaries isn’t selfish.
C.Identify what tasks create the most stress.
D.Change may upset your loved one at first.
E.Sometimes sharing tasks can ease the burden.
F.Always put your family member’s needs first.
G.Saying “no” doesn’t make you a bad caregiver.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.D 4.G 5.A

Passage 5
Dark Chocolate: A Sweet Surprise for Health
You might find it hard to believe, but dark chocolate isn’t just a delicious treat; it can actually be good for your health! When eaten in proper amounts, this sweet delight offers amazing health advantages. Studies suggest regular eaters enjoy better overall health. 1
Firstly, dark chocolate helps prevent heart disease. Like green tea, it contains special substances called flavonoids (类黄酮). These act as the body’s natural protectors. 2 Research shows they begin working quickly after eating. For example, when our body processes food, or when we’re in sunlight or polluted air, harmful things form. These can damage cells and cause heart issues. Flavonoids help by lowering blood pressure, keeping our hearts healthy. This may reduce heart attack risks.
3 The mood improvement lasts longer than expected. When eaten, it makes the brain produce “feel-good” chemicals, similar to the joy after exercise. Tests show it affects the brain like pleasant music does. A small piece can lift your mood during stress.
Additionally, dark chocolate protects skin. Its substances absorb certain sunlight linked to skin aging. 4 This natural protection works from inside the body. People eating it daily showed less skin dryness in a study.
However, too much brings problems. 5 A 100g bar has as many calories as a full meal. Experts suggest no more than 60 grams daily (2-3 small pieces). Combining it with fruits makes a healthier choice.
A.Let’s explore these benefits in detail.
B.They fight against harmful substances.
C.Despite its benefits, it is high in calories.
D.These substances are mainly found in cocoa beans.
E.Dark chocolate requires complex processing methods.
F.Another key benefit is its ability to improve mental well-being.
G.As a result, the skin becomes healthier and more resistant to damage.
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.F 4.G 5.C

2.上文“Firstly, dark chocolate helps prevent heart disease. Like green tea, it contains special substances called flavonoids (类黄酮). These act as the body’s natural protectors. (首先,黑巧克力有助于预防心脏病。像绿茶一样,它含有一种叫做黄酮类的特殊物质。它们是身体的天然保护者)”提到黑巧克力中的类黄酮是身体的天然保护者,下文“Flavonoids help by lowering blood pressure, keeping our heart healthy. (黄酮类化合物有助于降低血压,保持心脏健康)”解释类黄酮通过降低血压保护心脏,B选项“They fight against harmful substances.(他们对抗有害物质)”直接说明类黄酮的作用,选项中的“They”指代“flavonoids”,“harmful substances”与下文“For example, when our body processes food, or when we’re in sunlight or polluted air, harmful things form. (例如,当我们的身体处理食物时,或者当我们在阳光或污染的空气中时,会形成有害物质)”中的“harmful things form”呼应。故选B项。
3.该空为本段主题句。由下文“The mood improvement lasts longer than expected. When eaten, it makes the brain produce “feel-good” chemicals, similar to the joy after exercise. Tests show it affects the brain like pleasant music does. A small piece can lift your mood during stress. (情绪改善的持续时间比预期的要长。当黑巧克力被吃掉时,它会使大脑产生‘感觉良好’的化学物质,类似于运动后的快乐。测试表明,它像悦耳的音乐一样影响大脑。一小块可以在压力下提升你的情绪)”可知,本段主题是黑巧克力改善情绪,F选项“另一个关键好处是它能够改善心理健康”能够概括本段主旨,切合语境。故选F项。
4.上文“Additionally, dark chocolate protects skin. Its substances absorb certain sunlight linked to skin aging. (此外,黑巧克力可以保护皮肤。它的物质吸收某些与皮肤衰老有关的阳光)”提到黑巧克力成分可吸收有害光线,下文“People eating it daily showed less skin dryness in a study. (一项研究表明,每天吃它的人皮肤干燥程度较低)”提到吃黑巧克力能让人的皮肤不那么干燥,G选项“因此,皮肤变得更健康,更能抵抗损伤”总结保护效果,符合语境。故选G项。
5.上文“However, too much brings problems. (然而,太多会带来问题)”指出吃太多黑巧克力会带来坏处;C选项“尽管它有好处,但热量很高”承上启下,指出黑巧克力尽管有上面几段所阐述的益处,但也有弊端,“high in calories”呼应下文“A 100g bar has as many calories as a full meal. (一块100克的巧克力棒所含的卡路里相当于一顿大餐)”讲黑巧克力热量高的问题。故选C项。

Passage 1
Avalanche dogs help locate skiers and snowboarders buried in the snow. They’re excellent at search and rescue because of years of training, excellent on-snow agility (敏捷), and an amazing sense of smell.
1 They are left to a handler, an owner who will take charge of their training but also care for them like a beloved pet. That first winter, handlers will ski around with dogs in their jackets to make them get used to resort life and all the sights, sounds, and smells that come with being a rescue dog.
By the end of the season, they’ll begin obedience (服从) training and practice drills to build their drive to search and rescue. First, the dog is familiarized with human scent (气味) thanks to plenty of time with the handler. Then, in runaway training, the handler gets the dog excited, tells it to stay, runs away and hides. 2
Dogs have a very impressive sense of smell. 3 That’s because humans give out something called skin-rafts, which are lighter than air, so they go up through the snow and collect on top of it in a sort of pool. As long as handlers can get their dogs into the scent zone, the dogs will walk around the area until they find the center of it, which is located directly above a buried skier.
4 Because even if humans were able to discover these scent pools, they cannot skillfully navigate deep snow. Even equipped with snowshoes, humans will find it hard to move quickly while dogs have little trouble jumping over and through it.
As an advantage, dogs don’t require equipment like people do. 5 This all makes them the ultimate avalanche rescue tool for those who have been trapped in the deep snow.
A.Training starts when the dogs are little ones.
B.They often look like the happiest creatures in the snow.
C.They are durable and well-equipped for severe weather.
D.Don’t rely only on these trained animals to save your life.
E.Indeed, dogs’ agility is what gives them their final strength.
F.It makes them exceptional at finding people buried in the snow.
G.Finally, it must find the hidden handler with the order “search”.
【答案】1.A 2.G 3.F 4.E 5.C
1.根据下文“They are left to a handler, an owner who will take charge of their training but also care for them like a beloved pet. That first winter, handlers will ski around with dogs in their jackets to make them get used to resort life and all the sights, sounds, and smells that come with being a rescue dog.(它们被交给训犬师,一个负责训练它们的主人,但也会像照顾心爱的宠物一样照顾它们。第一个冬天,训犬员会带着穿着夹克的狗到处滑雪,让它们适应度假村的生活,以及作为救援犬所要经历的所有风景、声音和气味。)”可以推知,本段是描述狗狗开始训练以及训练初期的情况,A项“当狗还很小的时候,训练就开始了”符合语境,故选A。
2.根据上文“First, the dog is familiarized with human scent (气味) thanks to plenty of time with the handler. Then, in runaway training, the handler gets the dog excited, tells it to stay, runs away and hides.(首先,狗狗熟悉了人类的气味,这要归功于与训练员相处的大量时间。然后,在逃跑训练中,训导员让狗兴奋起来,告诉它留下来,跑开并躲藏起来)”可知,本段描述了“逃跑训练”的过程,训练者躲藏起来,狗狗需要找到他。G项“最后,它必须通过命令找到隐藏的驯犬师”衔接了这一训练过程。故选G。
3.上文“Dogs have a very impressive sense of smell.(狗的嗅觉非常灵敏)”提到狗的嗅觉非常灵敏。F项“这使它们在寻找被雪埋住的人时表现得非常出色”,将狗狗的嗅觉与救援能力联系起来,引出下文“That’s because humans give out something called skin-rafts, which are lighter than air, so they go up through the snow and collect on top of it in a sort of pool.(这是因为人类会释放出一种叫做皮筏的东西,这种东西比空气还轻,所以它们会穿过雪,聚集在雪的顶部,形成一个类似水池的东西)”。故选F。
4.根据下文中的“Because even if humans were able to discover these scent pools, they cannot skillfully navigate deep snow. Even equipped with snowshoes, humans will find it hard to move quickly while dogs have little trouble jumping over and through it.(因为即使人类能够发现这些气味池,他们也无法熟练地在深雪中穿行。即使穿上雪鞋,人类也很难快速移动,而狗却可以轻松地跳过雪)”可知,狗狗在深雪中比人类更灵活,即使人类穿着雪鞋也难以快速移动。E项“确实,狗狗的敏捷性是它们最终的优势”符合语境。故选E。
5.根据下文“This all makes them the ultimate avalanche rescue tool for those who have been trapped in the deep snow.(这一切都使它们成为那些被困在深雪中的人的终极雪崩救援工具)”可知,空处是描述狗狗的各种优势,C项“它们持久耐用,装备精良,能应对恶劣天气”符合语境。故选C。

Passage 1
Psychological well-being (心理健康) is more widely recognized, with more treatments and professionals involved. 1 Here are some helpful strategies for you to find the right support.
Examine the source. Social media gives everyone a platform to share information, which can be beneficial in normalizing problems with well-being. However, just because someone has their own experience of something you’re struggling with, does not mean they are experienced in working with this in others. 2
Analyse qualifications. While online courses and qualifications provide greater access to health industry training, much fake information still exists in the industry. 3 When approaching those who promote their professional support, seek easily available evidence of recognized qualifications, and make sure they’re willing to explain these to you.
4 In today’s quick-fix culture, we often expect problems to be treated with immediate effect. But we should be cautious about anything promising a speedy solution, or that sounds too good to be true. Human psychology is highly complex, and the patterns that tie each of us up in emotional knots are as invisible to us as water to a fish. It takes time to understand and change these.
There is no silver bullet. There is no single cure that can solve all of our problems, and those who claim that there is might be ignoring the complexity involved in being human. Surely, marketing campaigns will continue singing the praises of their products and services. 5 Instead, evaluate the options carefully according to your unique needs. This enables you to make informed choices for lasting well-being.
A.Don’t trust quick fixes.
B.However, it’s hard to know who to trust.
C.So watch out for the claim that one solution fits all.
D.This enables people to easily find qualified professionals.
E.This makes it difficult for people to know if a consultant is qualified.
F.Researching what actually qualifies someone to give advice is essential before taking it.
G.Many consultants have qualifications in psychology to handle various emotional problems.
【答案】1.B 2.F 3.E 4.A 5.C
1.根据上文“Psychological well-being (心理健康) is more widely recognized, with more treatments and professionals involved.(心理健康得到了更广泛的认可,相关的治疗方法和专业人员也越来越多)”以及后文“Here are some helpful strategies for you to find the right support.(以下是一些有助于你找到合适支持的实用策略)”可知,前文提到“心理健康受到广泛关注,有更多治疗方法和专业人士参与”,后文转折引出“如何找到合适的支持”的建议。
2.根据上文“Examine the source. Social media gives everyone a platform to share information, which can be beneficial in normalizing problems with well-being. However, just because someone has their own experience of something you’re struggling with, does not mean they are experienced in working with this in others.(审视其来源。
While online courses and qualifications provide greater access to health industry training, much fake information still exists in the industry.(分析资质情况。虽然在线课程和相关资质为人们提供了更多参与医疗行业培训的机会,但该行业仍存在大量虚假信息)”可知,本段围绕“分析资质”展开,前文提到“行业中存在虚假信息”;E选项“这使得人们难以判断顾问是否具备相应资质”对虚假信息造成的后果的说明,选项中“this”指代前文的“fake information”,符合语境。故选E。
4.根据后文“In today’s quick-fix culture, we often expect problems to be treated with immediate effect. But we should be cautious about anything promising a speedy solution, or that sounds too good to be true. Human psychology is highly complex, and the patterns that tie each of us up in emotional knots are as invisible to us as water to a fish. It takes time to understand and change these.(在当今这种追求立竿见影效果的文化背景下,我们往往期望问题能立即得到解决。
5.根据上文“There is no silver bullet. There is no single cure that can solve all of our problems, and those who claim that there is might be ignoring the complexity involved in being human. Surely, marketing campaigns will continue singing the praises of their products and services.(不存在万灵药。不存在一种能解决我们所有问题的单一疗法,那些声称有这种万能疗法的人可能忽视了作为人类所涉及的复杂性。当然,营销活动仍会继续大力宣传其产品和服务的优点)”可知,前文提到“没有万能药,声称有万能解决方案的人可能忽视了人性的复杂性”,本句对对前文的总结,构成因故关系,指出应该警惕这种说法。故C选项“所以要警惕那种‘一种方法适用于所有人’的说法”符合语境,故选C。
Passage 2
Can you get through seven days without looking at a digital device? I have tried a digital detox (脱瘾) and here’s what has happened.
It’s well-documented: Our screens are prisons that destroy our attention span, and weaken our mental health, increasing our carbon footprint. 1
I’ve decided to try to live like it’s 1996, and go back to my pre-Internet life, with a one-week digital detox — no computers or cellphones. 2 To start with, I need to explain the concept to my friends and family so they’re not wondering why I’ve suddenly fallen off the map. I set up an out-of-office reply: “ 3 If this is an emergency, call my landline.”
4 I borrow my eight-year-old son’s watch (to be honest, the last time I wore a watch, it was the 20th century), write down the entire week’s appointments and map out routes. When all that is done, I find my long-abandoned landline phone and plug it in.
My digital detox hasn’t even begun and I’m already aware of the fact that I underestimated my screen dependency. I feel nervous. 5 However, now, on the edge of the abyss (深渊), I’m seized by complete anxiety. I type the final words on my phone, which I’ll put in the drawer. I’ll shut the drawer and tape it closed. Once it’s taped, there will be no turning back.
Actually, on the next morning as soon as I wake up, I reach toward the taped bedside table. Clearly, I still have a long way to go...
A.But can we free ourselves?
B.The rules are meant to be observed strictly.
C.I won’t have access to email until Sunday.
D.I anticipated the challenge as a relaxing break.
E.What drives us to feverishly check our email inboxes?
F.But before the big shut-off, I need to do a little preparation.
G.Then I note down a few useful phone numbers in a notebook.
【答案】1.A 2.F 3.C 4.G 5.D

Passage 3
It is said that the most important relationship you have is the one with yourself. Your thoughts and actions have a powerful effect on your inner (内心的) emotional state. 1 Following them and sticking to your values, you can learn to be your own best friend.
While there are many ways to show yourself love, you can start off by considering your health first. That can determine how you experience life itself. Practice self-pity and make sure your inner voice is a kind one as well. Talk to yourself as if you would speak to a friend. 2
Another positive step you can take is listening to your needs and desires (欲望). In life, you may meet people with different goals and needs. 3 By valuing your needs, you provide yourself with your own recognition, instead of looking for others’ recognition. Remembering this is the key to finding proper partners, friends, careers, and lifestyles because your values and desires matter.
4 So work toward a project that lights you up, rather than searching on social media, and make sure to rest instead of saying “yes” to every invitation. Think about how you would want to spend your time if you had more of it, and create moments to do just that.
Make sure to also surround yourself with people who encourage you. Healthy relationships are like sunlight to a plant — they help you grow in the right direction. 5 At the same time, it’s important to let go of ties that no longer help you. And don’t hold on to relationships out of guilt (内疚).
A.You are able to do right things.
B.Respecting your time equally matters.
C.Yet that doesn’t make yours any less important.
D.Change harmful self-talk with encouraging words.

Passage 4
I hated writing growing up. But I couldn’t avoid it: learning English was a must in high school. For hours, I stared at blank pages, trying to turn my disorganized thoughts into fluent sentences. I tried my best but my teachers would return my papers littered with red. I was upset to no end. 1 . And that was OK. I didn’t have to do well in everything.
2 . I liked it because the objective truth could be found if I searched properly. In college, I joined a research lab to enhance conductor efficiency, and after a year of hard work, we developed a design that halved energy losses. However, the joy was short-lived as I had to write a research paper about our findings.
I knew that if I wanted to become an academic, I would need to spend time writing papers. But with my awful track record with writing, I was scared of failing. In a panic, I asked a graduate student in my lab for help. We defined a goal for the paper, and I carefully wrote an outline. But when I asked him for feedback, I soon found the paper covered in red marks. 3 .
Before I could give up in defeat, though, the graduate student explained those red marks didn’t mean I was a bad writer. 4 . It requires revising your work, often several times. I kept improving the outline of my paper, eventually turning it into sentences and paragraphs. My initial draft wasn’t perfect. I had buried a few key takeaways, and the introduction was missing important context. But with help, I finally made it.
From then on, writing became one of my favorite parts of research. 5 , but I changed my view. All it took was some trial and error.
A.“Not again,” I screamed inside
B.I should view it in a positive way
C.Maybe I wasn’t good at writing
D.Writing isn’t a one-and-done thing
E.I soon realized writing was my strength

Passage 1
The way we watch television has changed, as many of us no longer follow the old model of television. In the past, a new episode (集) of a show was released once a week. 1 People, therefore, have created a new term:binge-watching It is used to describe the behavior of watching many episodes of a whole series in a row.
2 In fact, a 2018 Morning Consult poll (民意调查) found that 60 percent of American adults who watched shows binge-watched. The percentage even increased among younger audiences. 3
Of course, every new cultural behavior has its accompanying health consequences. What is binge-watching doing to our health? 4 They sent an 18-question survey to 926 adults who owned a television and at least one other device with a screen. They found that heavy screen time users averaged 17.5 hours of screen-use every day. They also reported that this group’s health condition was worse than light users.
Interestingly, researchers also discovered a connection between binge-watching and greater stress. The result is surprising. 5 It might have been believed that people are turning to binge-watching to deal with anxiety and stress. However, that’s not the case. It could be the case that people will suffer from greater stress if watching more shows continuously.
A.Every new cultural behavior has its own causes.
B.Nowadays, binge-watching is a common behavior.
C.Now, many companies release a whole series at once.
D.People are more stressed out if they’re binge-watching.
E.Researchers at Arizona State University wanted to figure this out.
F.73 percent of 18-to-29-year-olds binge-watched at least once a week.
G.Researchers identified binge-watchers by asking how long they watched television.

Passage 4
If I could offer you a magic drug that would make you happier, healthier, more optimistic and more productive, and cost nothing and will require very little effort, would you be interested? Of course you would! Science tells us that an “attitude of gratitude(感激)” is a good health choice. 1 And gratitude requires little time and no money. But why can gratitude improve our productivity and results?
2 We learn the importance of saying “thank you” as little children. This childhood lesson is extremely useful. 3 How do you feel about them? Does their appreciation positively impact your relation with them? Of course it does! So be grateful for people, their contributions and their actions and make sure you let them know how you feel.
Gratitude improves problem solving skills. 4 However, when we think about what we are grateful for, we open our minds up to new possibilities and connections. We also enter a problem solving situation with a perspective of opportunity rather than challenge or issue.
Gratitude helps us learn. Every dark cloud has a silver lining. 5 Being grateful for our situation, even if we don’t like everything about it, allows us to be thankful for opportunity to learn something new.
So, the more aware and grateful we are of what we have and our capabilities, the more capable and effective we become in living.
A.Gratitude improves attitudes.
B.Gratitude improves relationships.
C.Behind every problem lies an opportunity.
D.Being more grateful often makes us happier and more optimistic.
E.Think about those people that you know who are most appreciative of you.
F.Too often we look at problem solving with a very bored or exhausted view.
G.Grateful people experience fewer aches and pains and report feeling healthier than other people.
1.前文“Science tells us that an “attitude of gratitude” is a good health choice.(科学告诉我们,“感恩的态度”对健康有益)”表明感恩对于健康的好处,与D选项“Being more grateful often makes us happier and more optimistic.(感恩往往会让我们更快乐、更乐观)”和后文“And gratitude requires little time and no money.(感恩只需要很少的时间和金钱)”都在说明感恩的益处,与第一句“If I could offer you a magic drug that would make you happier, healthier, more optimistic and more productive, and cost nothing and will require very little effort, would you be interested?(如果我能给你一种神奇的药,它能让你更快乐、更健康、更乐观、更有效率,而且不需要花费任何精力,你会感兴趣吗)”对应。故选D项。
2.空处为本段的主旨句,后文“Does their appreciation positively impact your relation with them? Of course it does!(他们的感激对你和他们的关系有积极的影响吗?当然有)”可知,本段描述感恩对于人物关系的有益影响;B选项“Gratitude improves relationships.(感恩可以改善人际关系)”符合主旨。故选B项。
3.空前“We learn the importance of saying “thank you” as little children. This childhood lesson is extremely useful.(我们从小就知道说“谢谢”的重要性。这个童年的教训非常有用)”表明说“谢谢”是有用的;后文“How do you feel about them? Does their appreciation positively impact your relation with them? Of course it does!(你觉得他们怎么样?他们的感激对你和他们的关系有积极的影响吗?当然有)”中them为空处提到的内容;E选项“Think about those people that you know who are most appreciative of you.(想想你认识的那些最欣赏你的人)”符合此处语境,引起下文。故选E项。
4.本段首句“Gratitude improves problem solving skills.(感恩可以提高解决问题的能力)”表明本段描述感恩可以提高解决问题的能力,空后“However, when we think about what we are grateful for, we open our minds up to new possibilities and connections.(然而,当我们想到我们感激的东西时,我们就打开了新的可能性和联系)”为进行转折,表明感恩有助于打开可能性和联系;F选项“Too often we look at problem solving with a very bored or exhausted view.(我们常常以一种非常无聊或疲惫的视角来看待问题的解决)”表明我们解决问题时常遇见的问题,符合语境。故选F项。

(黑暗中总有一线光明)”与C选项“Behind every problem lies an opportunity.(每个问题的背后都蕴藏着机会)”用类比句,说明我们可以通过解决问题进行学习,与后文“Being grateful for our situation, even if we don’t like everything about it, allows us to be thankful for opportunity to learn something new.(对我们的处境心存感激,即使我们并不喜欢它的一切,也会让我们对学习新东西的机会心存感激)”表示“我们应对于艰难的处境进行感恩”语境一致。故选C项。
Passage 5
Have you ever found yourself in a tricky situation where someone is acting wrongly? 1 , but the fear of making matters worse holds you back. It’s a common problem we all face. Here are four useful tips to help you correct others nicely and gain their respect.
First, stay calm when you correct someone. How you say things matters more than what you say. We often use our feelings to show we’re disappointed. 2 . For example, would you listen to someone who’s shouting at you, or someone who’s calm? We’re all sensitive. If you’re emotional when you correct someone, they might get defensive.
Second, focus on facts rather than opinions. Instead of saying someone is bad at something, tell them what you’ve seen them do. 3 . Say “I saw three reports left on the desk”. This way, you’re not attacking them. It gives them a chance to explain, and it helps you have a more productive conversation.
Third, correct people in private. 4 . If you do, it might hurt their feelings and damage your relationship. Also, others might think less of you. Correcting someone in public can make you seem like a weak leader.
Fourth, use the “sandwich” way. Start by saying something good about the person. Then, tell them what they need to change. End by saying something positive again. For example, “You did a great job on that project. But we need to be more careful with the numbers. I know you can do better next time”. 5 .
By following these tips, you can correct others in a better way. You’ll build better relationships and achieve better results.
A.But this usually doesn’t work well
B.This makes the correction easier to take
C.For example, don’t say “You’re so careless”
D.You might be eager to step in and set things right
E.Opinions can sometimes be misleading and hurtful
F.It’s better to just ignore the small mistakes of others
G.Don’t do it in front of their friends or your workmates
【答案】1.D 2.A 3.C 4.G 5.B
1.根据前文“Have you ever found yourself in a tricky situation where someone is acting wrongly?(你有没有发现自己处于有人行为错误的棘手情况?)”以及下文“Here are four useful tips to help you correct others nicely and gain their respect.(这里有四个有用的建议,可以帮助你很好地纠正别人,赢得他们的尊重。)” D“You might be eager to step in and set things right(你可能急于介入纠正)”符合语境。故选D。
2.根据上文“We often use our feelings to show we’re disappointed (我们经常用情绪表达失望)”及下文“For example, would you listen to someone who’s shouting at you, or someone who’s calm? We’re all sensitive. If you’re emotional when you correct someone, they might get defensive.(例如,你会听一个对你大喊大叫的人,还是听一个冷静的人?我们都很敏感。如果你在纠正别人的时候情绪激动,他们可能会有抵触情绪)”可知,前文提到我们常用情绪表达失望,后文通过一个问题“会听一个对你大喊大叫的人,还是听一个冷静的人”为例说明情绪化方式的负面影响。由此推断此处指情绪化表达失望这一方式不起作用,选项A“But this usually doesn’t work well (但这种方法通常效果不佳)”符合语境,“this”指代上文中“use our feelings to show we’re disappointed”。故选A。
3.上文“focus on facts rather than opinions. Instead of saying someone is bad at something, tell them what you’ve seen them do. (关注事实而不是观点。与其说别人不擅长某件事,不如告诉他们你见过他们做过什么。)”强调要关注事实避免主观评价;选项C“For example, don’t say ‘You’re so careless (例如,不要说‘你太粗心了’)”以及下文“Say “I saw three reports left on the desk”(说‘我看到桌子上还留有三份报告’)”通过举例说明不要运用主观观点式批评,而是要运用陈述事实性的表达,符合语境。故选C。
4.根据上文“Third, correct people in private. (第三,私下里纠正别人。)”指出要私下纠正别人错误;后文“If you do, it might hurt their feelings and damage your relationship. Also, others might think less of you.(如果你这样做,可能会伤害他们的感情,破坏你们的关系。另外,别人可能会看轻你。)”陈述了公开纠正他人会产生的后果,选项G“Don’t do it in front of their friends or your workmates(不要当着他们的朋友或同事的面做)”呼应“私下纠正”的建议,符合语境,下文中“you do”指代选项中的“do it in front of their friends or your workmates”。故选G。
5.上文“use the “sandwich” way. Start by saying something good about the person. Then, tell them what they need to change. End by saying something positive again. For example, “You did a great job on that project. But we need to be more careful with the numbers. I know you can do better next time”.(用‘三明治’的方式。从说对方的好话开始。然后,告诉他们需要改变什么。最后再次说些积极的话。例如,‘你在那个项目上做得很好。但我们需要更加小心这些数字。我知道你下次可以做得更好。’)”建议“三明治法”,并通过举例来阐述如何使用“表扬——纠正——表扬”这一“三明治法”;选项B“This makes the correction easier to take(这让纠正更容易被接受)”承接上文,阐述“三明治法”的优势,符合语境。故选B。

G.One thing that can help is to attend classes aimed at explaining various types of gadget
1.根据空后的“and with new sciences and research appearing all the time(随着新的科学和研究不断出现)”可推测,空处和此保持一致,指的是科技的发展。选项D“With technology developing at an increasing speed(随着科技的飞速发展)”与空后内容保持一致,指的是随着科技的发展和研究的不断出现,从而自然引出下文“it’s easy to feel lost among the progress and even to be a little frightened.(人们很容易迷失在进步中,甚至有点害怕。)”。故选D。
2.根据下文内容“So whether you just want to improve your word processing, or you need to completely learn everything from the beginning, you should be able to find a class with helpful teachers.(所以,无论你只是想提高你的文字处理能力,还是你需要从头开始学习所有的东西,你都应该能够找到一个有帮助的老师的课程。)” G“One thing that can help is to attend classes aimed at explaining various types of gadget(有一件事是有帮助的,那就是参加针对解释各种小工具的课程)”与下文内容相符,指的都是我们需要找到一种学习方式。故选G。
3.根据空后内容“—so once you understand the science, it can be a lot less frightening(所以一旦你了解了科学,它就不会那么可怕了。)” C“Often future shock is about fear of the unknown(对未来的震惊通常是关于对未知的恐惧)”中的“fear of the unknown”与下文“it”保持一致,同时也指出了解了科学,对未知的恐惧就会减少。故选C。
4.根据空前内容“Another useful thing to do is to try asking a friend working in related areas to show you how to get on with new technologies.(另一件有用的事情是试着让在相关领域工作的朋友告诉你如何使用新技术。)” B“This is easier than going to a class(这比去上课容易)”是上文内容的自然延续,同时与空后内容“because the person instructing you will have a better idea of the way your mind works and how to communicate with you.(因为指导你的人会更了解你的思维方式以及如何与你沟通。)”
5.根据空后内容“we can make the world develop in a brighter direction within our own abilities, so cherish our great time today and everything we have.(我们可以使世界在我们自己的能力范围内朝着更光明的方向发展,所以珍惜我们今天的美好时光和我们所拥有的一切。)”

Passage 1
Are all the emails and social media notifications making you anxious or getting you down? Is having to learn yet another new piece of software stressing you out? Are the boundaries between family life and work life unclear because of technology? 1 The term is used to describe the negative psychological effect that using new technologies can have.
Though many people may not be familiar with technostress, they probably are familiar with the feelings of having too much technology in their lives. Technostress can be broken down into a few subcategories, including techno-overload, techno-complexity and techno-invasion. 2
Technostress may make people feel down or burned-out and even suffer from depression. Some may feel tension in the body, which can lead to headaches and back pain. 3 That is why dealing with technostress is vital to overall health.
4 Acknowledge that it’s a sign of strength and courage to recognize a mental health challenge and take steps to manage it. Experts encourage people struggling with technostress to take steps in the workplace to get involved in how technology may be used.
Taking time each day to get outside is also a great way. By all accounts, there’s almost nothing that aids in stress management so much as a few hours spent in the park, the woods or the mountains. 5 Hours spent on the computer may be perceived as stressful but the stressors can be seen as more bearable if on this day one can look forward to a walk in nature. Just go outside and nature never disappoints.
A.All of them can have significant effects on health.
B.It’s not a medical problem but can lead to diseases.
C.Such time is one ready resource available to most people.
D.In the connected world, most people continuously multitask.
E.You may be experiencing a phenomenon known as technostress.
F.Engaging in activities that are grounding and centering is helpful.
G.The first thing to do is to accept that it’s normal to have stress from technology.
【答案】1.E 2.A 3.B 4.G 5.C
1.空前“Are all the emails and social media notifications making you anxious or getting you down? Is having to learn yet another new piece of software stressing you out? Are the boundaries between family life and work life unclear because of technology?(所有的电子邮件和社交媒体通知是否让你感到焦虑或沮丧?不得不学习另一款新软件会让你感到压力吗?由于科技的发展,家庭生活和工作生活之间的界限变得模糊了吗?)”通过三个并列问句描述技术影响人们的场景;空后“The term is used to describe the negative psychological effect that using new technologies can have.(这个词用来描述使用新技术可能产生的负面心理影响。)”
2.空前“Technostress can be broken down into a few subcategories including techno-overload, techno-complexity and techno-invasion.(技术压力可以分为几个子类,包括技术超载、技术复杂性和技术入侵。)” 对比选项可知,A项中的“All of them”可承接上文,指代“techno-overload, techno-complexity and techno-invasion”,所以A选项“所有这些都会对健康产生重大影响。” 故选A项。
3.空前“Some may feel tension in the body, which can lead to headaches and back pain.(有些人可能会感到身体紧张,这会导致头痛和背痛。)” 空后“That is why dealing with technostress is vital to overall health.(这就是为什么应对技术压力对整体健康至关重要。)”
4.空后“Acknowledge that it’s a sign of strength and courage to recognize a mental health challenge and take steps to manage it. Experts encourage people struggling with technostress to take steps in the workplace to get involved in how technology may be used.(承认这是一种力量和勇气的标志,认识到心理健康的挑战,并采取措施来管理它。专家们鼓励那些与技术压力作斗争的人在工作场所采取措施,了解如何使用技术。)”提到了对待技术压力的态度,是所有G项“首先要做的是接受有技术压力是正常的”能概括下文内容,符合语境。故选G项。
5.空前“Taking time each day to get outside is also a great way. By all accounts, there’s almost nothing that aids in stress management so much as a few hours spent in the park, the woods or the mountains.(每天花点时间出去走走也是一个很好的方法。大家都说,几乎没有什么比在公园、树林或山上呆上几个小时更能帮助管理压力了。)”提到了花点时间出去走走,所以C项“对大多数人来说,这样的时间是现成的资源。”能承接上文,且Such time与空前的a few hours spent in the park, the woods or the mountains呼应。
Passage 1
Vacations are an essential part of every person’s life. Following long seasons of hard work, it is well deserved to get away from busy schedules and enjoy nature.
While tourism is good, it has its dark side. Besides emission-based pollution, tourism also contributes heavily to plastic pollution. This kind of pollution can be reduced by advocating for sustainable vacationing. 1 When it comes to ecotourism, your inspiration for others to take action is equally important.
2 If a park says no to feeding wildlife, simply avoid feeding them. Most times, what we interpret as affection for wildlife puts them at risk. If parks allowed every person to feed animals, chances of the animals dying from food poisoning are high.
In our efforts to protect nature, we may fail to appreciate other people’s cultures. The local communities in the Amazon are a part of the forest’s life. When you visit such local communities, you may find them participating in some practices that may seem unfriendly to the ecosystem or wildlife. 3 Trying to listen and interact with communities opens more doors to bring in change than criticism does.
Most people are not sustainability conscious._ 4 We have many ways to be sustainable and one is sharing your ideas. The sustainable option you choose may seem absurd to another person. However, sharing your experience may help others have different perspectives.
At the end of the day, sustainable vacationing should help you not only reduce negative environmental impact but also awaken society to such a reality. 5 However, every small step contributes to a more sustainable world.
A.No rule fits all situations concerning this topic.
B.The reason for this is that they think it cannot be achieved.
C.Protect our lives from potential danger by following regulations.
D.The best way to care for nature and wildlife is to follow the rules.
E.Instead of being critical, take your time to learn from their practices.
F.An ecotourist focuses on protecting nature, culture and social practices.
G.The term ecotourism is often used interchangeably with sustainable tourism.
【答案】1.G 2.D 3.E 4.B 5.A
1.根据上文“This kind of pollution can be reduced by advocating for sustainable vacationing.(通过提倡可持续度假,可以减少这种污染。)”和下文“When it comes to ecotourism, your inspiration for others to take action is equally important.(说到生态旅游,你激励他人采取行动同样重要。)”
2.根据下文“If a park says no to feeding wildlife, simply avoid feeding them.(如果公园禁止喂养野生动物,就不要喂养它们。)”
3.根据上文“When you visit such local communities, you may find them participating in some practices that may seem unfriendly to the ecosystem or wildlife.(当你访问这些当地社区时,你可能会发现他们参与了一些可能对生态系统或野生动物不友好的做法。)”和下文“Trying to listen and interact with communities opens more doors to bring in change than criticism does.(试着倾听并与社区互动,比为批评打开更多带来改变的大门。)”
4.根据上文“Most people are not sustainability conscious.(大多数人没有可持续意识。)”和下文“We have many ways to be sustainable and one is sharing your ideas.(我们有很多方法可以实现可持续发展,其中之一就是分享你的想法。)”
5.根据上文“At the end of the day, sustainable vacationing should help you not only reduce negative environmental impact but also awaken society to such a reality.(归根结底,可持续度假不仅应该帮助你减少对环境的负面影响,还应该唤醒社会对这一现实的认识。)”和下文“However, every small step contributes to a more sustainable world.(然而,每一个小步骤都有助于构建一个更可持续的世界。)” 故选A。

E.Practice self-love and change your life by some simple steps.
F.Give your energy to those who bring you peace, support, and love.
G.By caring about what others think of you, you can make yourself more popular.
F.I switched to the world of math and science
G.I had never imagined it in my wildest dreams

You will be leaving this school at the end of this year and the unavoidable question many people will ask you is, “So, what do you want to be?” 1 But many of you still don’t have a clue! Here are some things you might want to consider.
First, choose a career that interests you. Some people might think this is unimportant, but if you are truly passionate about your job then-going to work every day won’t seem a chore. It’s also likely that you will stay and grow in this career. 2 This can help you decide if a career path is a good fit for you.
Second, does the career you are considering have staying power? Will it be in demand in 20 years? Rapid technological change is disruptive (破坏性的). 3 While many occupations are being taken over by new technology, jobs that require high-level of critical thinking, emotional intelligence and human interaction, remain in high demand. These jobs are more adaptable and not easily replaced by machines or technology.
Third, of course you will want to consider your chosen profession’s earning power! Although high pay plays a part, you should know that a job with a big salary will likely require more time to get to the top, much more effort and a higher level of stress. 4 If you have interests outside of work, or are struggling with other demands in your life, you might want to choose a less taxing line of work.

New academicians take a group photo after the certificate (证书) awarding ceremony at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. 1 They aimed to make greater contributions to the development of the nation’s scientific research by encouraging the young generation and promoting the role of female scientists.
Academician Huang Sanwen from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) made three commitments to himself — to contribute his energies to scientific research, to apply his achievements to the fields, and to provide more opportunities for young people. “ 2 By allowing outstanding young people to have sufficient opportunities, we can foster a diverse scientific community with heated debates,” he said.
Academician Jian Zhimin advised that persistence should be the most valuable spirit on the path of scientific research. “ 3 This determination and perseverance (毅力) are essential in scientific research,” he said.
Out of the 59 newly elected academicians, 5 of them are female scientists. Academician Jin Kuijuan mentioned that women have unique perspectives, and that respecting the role of women is of crucial significance. 4
5 For example, she said funding institutions such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China have relaxed their age restrictions, taking into consideration the time and energies women need for childbirth and childcare.

G.To achieve success in the field of science, the most important thing is to persist with original intention.

Ways to Overcome the Future Shock
Future shock is a term that is used to describe a psychological phenomenon in which people are negatively affected by the rapid rate at which the world is changing. 1 , and with new sciences and research appearing all the time, it’s easy to feel lost among the progress and even to be a little frightened. So what do you do if you feel you’re suffering from future shock?
2 . So whether you just want to improve your word processing, or you need to completely learn everything from the beginning, you should be able to find a class with helpful teachers.
Reading is also one way to learn the basics of new inventions and technologies. Read up on your chosen subject and you’ll find there’s a lot of information there. Similarly, if you’re worried about some technology, reading more about it is a great way to overcome future shock. 3 —so once you understand the science, it can be a lot less frightening.
Another useful thing to do is to try asking a friend working in related areas to show you how to get on with new technologies. 4 , because the person instructing you will have a better idea of the way your mind works and how to communicate with you.
In the end, the future really isn’t anything to be afraid of.
