He told her great stories about the rockets he helped design, and he often brought Mary science books. He also taught her some knowledge about space. Mary loved technology and science, and she was also adventurous For those reasons, Mary’s family kept telling her she should be an astronaut when she grew up, but she just wasn’t sure. One Saturday, Mary and Uncle Ted went to visit the Science Museum. They watched a show on space travel. Uncle Ted told her something interesting about spaceships and space suits. But she was most interested in two model robot arms and tried operating (操作) them. She stayed there all day and felt very excited. By the time they got on the bus to return home, Mary was very tired. Closing her eyes, she was thinking about what it would be like to fly into space. As she nearly fell asleep, Mary started to feel the weightlessness that astronauts must feel when they are in zero gravity (重力). The next thing she knew, she was looking out the window not of a bus but of a spaceship. Mary was operating a huge robot arm outside the spaceship. She felt nervous. But she kept at it. Soon she succeeded. She felt proud of herself. Just then, Mary heard Uncle Ted’s voice. “Wake up, my dear! We’re back home now.” When she opened her eyes, she realized she had been dreaming, but she knew this for sure—she wanted to be an astronaut one day and couldn’t wait for her first trip into space. 1.What did Uncle Ted do? A.He was a writer. B.He was an engineer. C.He was an astronaut. D.He was a teacher. 2.What interested Mary most in the museum? A.Two model robot arms. B.Amazing space suits. C.A long show on space. D.An interesting spaceship. 3.How did Mary feel in the museum that Saturday? A.Excited. B.Tired. C.Nervous. D.Proud. 4.What happened to Mary on her way home? A.She was sent into space. B.She operated a robot arm. C.She had a wonderful dream. D.She experienced zero gravity. 5.At last Mary decided to be an astronaut because of ________. A.her science books B.her parents’ wish C.her uncle’s encouragement D.her trip to the museum 【答案】 根据“Mary’s uncle Ted was an engineer.” 根据“But she was most interested in two model robot arms”可知Mary对两个模型机械臂最感兴趣。故选A。 3. 根据“She stayed there all day and felt very excited.” 故选A。 4. 根据“As she nearly fell asleep, Mary started to feel the weightlessness that astronauts must feel when they are in zero gravity”可知Mary在回家的路上做了一个美好的梦。故选C。 5. 根据“When she opened her eyes, she realized she had been dreaming, but she knew this for sure—she wanted to be an astronaut one day and couldn’t wait for her first trip into space.” Brad daydreamed in history class and missed an important lesson on the Grand Canal. At night, he found himself stuck when doing his homework on this ancient Chinese project. A moment later, he thought of his Sight Pro, the smart glasses, and put them on: “Teach me about the Grand Canal.” Immediately, the glasses took him on a journey along the canal. He started in Hangzhou and was now slowly traveling up north toward Yangzhou. As he was enjoying the fascinating views on the banks, Sight Pro suddenly said: “ “ “Are you giving me a little quiz (小测)? Hmm, bring it on,” Brad replied confidently. Question 1: “Is the Grand Canal over 1,000 or 2,000 km long?” Brad guessed 1,000—wrong. It’s over 2,000 km, the world’s longest man-made waterway. Question 2: “When did the construction begin?” He said the 7th century—wrong again. It started in the 5th century B.C.E., expanded (扩建) by Emperor Yang of Sui. Question 3: “Why was it built?” Brad thought it was for travel—but its primary function (主要功能) was to transport food and goods from the rich southern lands to the northern capital. Although Brad scored zero on all the questions, he was pleased to have learned a great deal. He found it easier and happier to learn in this way. He wrote about the changes to the canal during the Yuan Dynasty (because the capital moved to Beijing) in his homework. “Great job!” Sight Pro praised sweetly. 1.Which picture shows the Grand Canal? A.B. C. D. 2.Which of the following can be put in ________? A.How do you like the journey? B.How beautiful the Grand Canal is! C.Fun time is over. Here comes the hard part. D.Enjoy it, right? Now it’s time to take me off. 3.In what order are the three questions asked? A.Length→Age→Reason. B.Size→History→Scenery. C.Location→Time→Situation. D.Length→Construction Time→Function. 4.Why was Brad pleased even if he scored zero? A.Because he was very proud of the Grand Canal. B.Because he got most answers right in the test. C.Because he learned a lot while enjoying the process. D.Because there’s no need for him to finish his homework. 5.What can we conclude from Brad’s experience with Sight Pro? A.Smart glasses are more useful than textbooks. B.Brad wrote about the Grand Canal in his homework. C.Interesting ways of learning help Brad get knowledge well. D.Test scores are the only way to show how much one has learned. C项“Fun time is over. Here comes the hard part.”符合这一逻辑。 3.三个问题的顺序为:长度(“over 1,000 or 2,000 km”)、建造时间(“when did the construction begin”)、功能(“why was it built”),即“长度—建造时间—功能”。 4.文中指出布拉德虽然答错所有问题,但“he was pleased to have learned a great deal...easier and happier to learn in this way”,说明他因为享受学习过程并学到了知识而高兴。 5.布拉德通过智能眼镜的沉浸式体验和互动测试学到了知识,说明有趣的学习方式能帮助他更好地掌握知识。 Every day after school, Ethan would rush home to play the guitar and lose himself in the beautiful music. It was more than a hobby for him—it was the only way to relax his mind and express his feelings. One day, a school talent show was announced on the notice board. Ethan dreamed of standing on the stage, but as the sign-up day came, self-doubt began to fill his heart. He often watched other students practice and felt his skills were far from perfect. The fear of being laughed at made him even want to give up the chance. Ethan’s grandfather noticed his low spirits and shared his own experience gently. “I once dreamed of being a painter, but I let self-doubt hold me back for years. Later, an old artist told me, ‘True beauty doesn’t come from being perfect, but from being real to your heart.’” Inspired by the words, Ethan made up his mind to take part in the show, no matter what the result would be. He practiced harder than ever, even spending his weekends polishing (打磨) his skills. On the day of the show, he walked onto the stage with a calm mind and played his favorite piece. His fingers danced over the strings, and the music full of passion (激情) touched every listener’s heart. Though he didn’t win the first prize, the warm applause (掌声) from the crowd brought tears to his eyes. Ethan finally understood that success is not about being the best, but about daring to try. The joy of following his dream and the growth from the experience are far more precious than any prize. 1.What made Ethan want to give up the school talent show at first? A.He practiced the guitar only on weekends. B.He won the second prize in the talent show. C.He played a piece full of passion on the stage. D.He thought the talent show was a boring activity. 4.How did Ethan feel when he heard the warm applause? A.Calm and bored. B.Proud and regretful. C.Excited and moved. D.Surprised and nervous. 5.What can we learn from Ethan’s experience? A.Perfect skills are the key to success. B.Big dreams are not for young students. C.Success comes from courage and practice. D.Practice helps you win the talent show easily. 【答案】1.B 2.B 3.C 4.C 5.C 【导语】本文讲述了热爱弹吉他的Ethan原本因自我怀疑、担心自己技艺不精想放弃学校才艺秀,在祖父的鼓励下他鼓起勇气报名参赛、刻苦练习后登台演出,最终领悟到成功的意义不在于名次奖项,而在于敢于尝试、追随梦想带来的成长的故事。 1.根据第二段“…felt his skills were far from perfect. The fear of being laughed at made him even want to give up the chance”可知,Ethan一开始想放弃是因为觉得自己的吉他技巧不够完美。 2.前文提到Ethan因自我怀疑想要放弃登台机会,由此推测他情绪低迷,low spirits表示“低落的情绪”,即悲伤、不开心的心情。 3.第四段“the music full of passion touched every listener’s heart”,说明他在舞台上演奏了充满激情的曲子,符合原文。原文提到Ethan比以往更努力练习,甚至周末也打磨技巧,并非只在周末练,A选项错误;原文只提到他没拿到一等奖,未提及获得二等奖,B选项错误;Ethan一直热爱吉他,想要登台,并没有觉得才艺秀无聊,D选项错误。 4.第四段提到观众热烈的掌声让Ethan热泪盈眶:“Though he didn’t win the first prize, the warm applause (掌声) from the crowd brought tears to his eyes.”,由此可知,他克服自我怀疑完成表演,得到认可后是激动又感动的。 5.文章强调Ethan鼓起勇气报名,努力练习后登台,最后明白成功不在于拿第一,而在于敢于尝试。对应选项C“成功来自勇气和练习”。 “Look! Letters from Leo! Granny will be excited!” Mom said. Andy turned to his mother. “Leo?” “Granny’s oldest and favorite brother. He made her a special box beside the window—locked. The key is lost. Now these letters...Granny will want them.” Andy took the box and letters to the kitchen. “What did you put in the box, Granny?” “Nothing. Leo would join the army soon. Before he left, he locked my box and hid the key. He said he’d invented a word game and promised to send clues (线索). We got letters but no clues. His final letter arrived after we heard the sad news. Mother was so sad that she tore it in half.” Granny watched Andy laid the letters on the table. “I always thought Mother threw away all of Leo’s letters.” Andy pointed at the letter in two pieces. “This must be his last letter.” Granny picked up one half and read, “Dearest Littlest Sister...” “Leo did send clues. Let’s tape the halves together,” Andy said. Andy read, “Ewe reed four make?” “Nonsense words,” Granny said. Andy looked carefully. “Wait! Read down in columns (列), not rows (行).” He read aloud. Granny’s eyes opened wide. “Leo used homophones (同音异形词)!” She read: “Go to the room where we ate. See the flower like the sun?” Granny smiled. “The dining room. The sunflower painting...” Andy quickly brought the painting. They found another clue on the back: “Look above the hole where rain does not come down. See the broken time piece? There! Inside!” He ran to the fireplace and gave the clock to Granny. “This clock never worked.” Granny opened it and reached inside. “All those years. It’s been right here.” She used the key to open the box. Inside was a photo of a girl and her brother. On the back: I KNEW you’d worked it out. Use this box for all your special treasures. Love, Leo. Granny gently put the photo and letters inside. “My treasures,” she said. 1.How may the underlined words “see the flower like the sun” be shown in the letter? A. B. C. D. 2.When Granny said “Nonsense words”, she most probably felt ________. A.surprised B.worried C.hopeless D.confident 3.Which of the following is TRUE? A.Granny found the key all by herself. B.Leo didn’t send any clues in his letters. C.Leo hid the key inside the broken clock above the fireplace. D.Granny’s mother threw away all of Leo’s letters except the last one. 4.What does “treasures” in the last paragraph refer to? A.The special box and the key. B.The photo and the letters from Leo. C.The painting of the sunflower and the clock. D.The broken time piece in the clock. 5.What is the best title for the story? A.Letters from Leo. B.A Treasure Hunter. C.Granny’s Favorite Brother. D.A Special Box. 【答案】1.B 2.C 3.C 4.B 5.A 【导语】本文讲述了Andy和Granny通过Leo留下的信件和同音词线索,最终找到藏在旧时钟里的钥匙和珍贵照片的故事,传递了亲情与回忆的珍贵。 1. 文中提到Leo使用同音异形词(homophones),“see”与“sea”同音,“flower”与“flour”同音,“sun”与“son”同音,因此信中会写成“sea the flour like the son”。 2.Granny看到“Ewe reed four make”这类看似无意义的单词时,认为是“胡说八道”,此时她最可能感到没有希望(hopeless)。 3.A选项中是Andy和Granny一起解开线索找到钥匙,并非Granny独自完成,表述错误。B选项中Leo在信中留下了同音词线索,并非没留任何线索,表述错误。C选项中根据文中“Look above the hole where rain does not come down. See the broken time piece? There! Inside!”和“He ran to the fireplace and gave the clock to Granny.” Franz Kafka (1883-1924) is a well-known writer. Once, when he was walking through a park in Berlin, he came across a young girl who was crying. She lost her favorite doll. He helped her look for the doll, but they couldn’t find it. Kafka told her to meet him there the next day and they would look for it again. The next day, Kafka gave the girl a letter “written” by the doll that said, “Please do not cry. I have gone to see the world. I will write to you about my adventures.” Thus came the story that continued to the end of Kafka’s life. When they met every time, Kafka read the letters of adventures, which were written by Kafka himself, of course. Finally, Kafka read her a letter in which the doll said it had returned to Berlin. Then, he gave her the doll that he had bought. “This does not look like my doll,” she said. Kafka handed her another letter that said, “It is my trips that have changed me.” The girl hugged the new doll and took it home. A year later, Kafka died. Many years later, the grown-up girl found a letter hidden inside the doll. The tiny letter, signed by Kafka said, “Everything you love may get lost, but in the end love will return in a certain way.” 1.Where did Kafka come across the girl? A.In a park. B.In a shop. C.In a zoo. D.In a school. 2.What do we know about the letters? A.They were for Kafka. B.They were written by Kafka. C.They described the real adventures of the doll. A.a-d-b-c-e B.d-e-b-a-c C.d-a-b-c-e D.a-b-d-e-c 4.How might the grown-up girl feel after reading the tiny letter? A.Thankful. B.Angry. C.Satisfied. D.Confident. 5.What can we learn from the text? A.We had better take care of our dolls. B.Trips can change a person. C.Everything we love will be back at last. D.Love will be back in a certain way. 【答案】1.A 2.B 3.B 4.A 5.D 【导语】本文主要讲述了作家卡夫卡帮助一位丢失玩偶的小女孩,通过代玩偶写信的方式给予她安慰,并在最后留下关于爱的哲理的温馨故事。 1.第一段明确指出:“when he was walking through a park in Berlin, he came across a young girl”,说明卡夫卡是在公园里遇到这个小女孩的。 2.第二段提到信件情况:“When they met every time, Kafka read the letters of adventures, which were written by Kafka himself, of course”,说明信件是卡夫卡写的。 3.根据文本内容,先是“She lost her favorite doll”即小女孩丢失了她最喜欢的娃娃;接着“He helped her look for the doll, but they couldn’t find it”即卡夫卡帮她找娃娃;然后“Kafka gave the girl a letter ‘written’ by the doll”即小女孩收到娃娃的第一封信;再接着“Finally, Kafka read her a letter in which the doll said it had returned to Berlin. Then, he gave her the doll that he had bought”即卡夫卡给小女孩一个新的娃娃;最后“Many years later, the grown-up girl found a letter hidden inside the doll”即小女孩在娃娃里发现了一封信。所以正确顺序是d-e-b-a-c。 4.信的最后一句写道:“Everything you love may get lost, but in the end love will return in a certain way”,这句话充满温情和哲理,成年后的女孩读到这封信时,感受到的是卡夫卡的善意和爱,因此她会心怀感激。 5.文章最后卡夫卡留下的信揭示了主旨:“Everything you love may get lost, but in the end love will return in a certain way”,说明爱会以某种方式回来。 My family lives in a small apartment. We do not have a backyard, but we love plants. One day, mom and I decided to make a window box herb garden. First, we went to the library to read about how to grow herbs in window boxes. Then we went to the gardening store and bought a long window box with a long “dish” that fits under it, some soil, and packets of seeds. Then we went for a “coffee talk” at a coffee shop and talked about what delicious meals we would make with our herbs. At home, we put some small stones at the bottom of the box. The stones help the water move out of the soil and into the dish below. If the water can’t get out, the soil stays too wet and the herbs won’t grow well. Mom and I both love pizza, so we made sure to plant a lot of basil. I love the smell of fresh basil! We also planted rosemary, which tastes good with roast lamb. That smells wonderful too. We planted mint because mom wanted to try making fresh mint tea. We placed the window box on top of the fridge and waited for the seeds to grow. Then we put the box on the shelf outside the kitchen window to get sunlight. My mom and I love to smell our fresh herbs. Now, every time I look out the window or help mom cook, I see our little garden growing. It reminds me that you don’t need a big yard to enjoy nature-sometimes, all you need is a little soil, some seeds, and a heart full of hope. 1.What did they buy at the gardening store? A.Books on growing plants. B.A box, soil, and seeds. C.Coffee and some cakes. D.Pizza and some roast lamb. 2.What is the correct order of the steps they took? ①Put stones in the box.        ②Went to the library. ③Planted the herbs.        ④ Bought things from the store. A.②-④-①-③ B.④-②-③-① C.②-①-④-③ D.①-②-③-④ 3.What is the main purpose of Paragraph 4? A.To tell a story about cooking. B.To describe how the plants grow. C.To explain why they chose those plants. D.To compare the smells of different plants. 4.What does “a heart full of hope” suggest in the last sentence? A.Being wealthy and rich. B.Knowing all about gardening. C.Feeling positive about life. D.Having a large and warm family. 5.What is the text mainly about? A.The smell of different fresh herbs. B.The use of herbs for cooking meals. C.The making of a window box garden. D.The life of living in a small apartment. 【答案】1.B 2.A 3.C 4.C 5.C 【导语】本文主要讲述了作者和妈妈因为住在小公寓里没有院子,于是决定制作一个窗台香草花园,并详细记录了从准备到种植的整个过程。 1.第二段明确指出:“Then we went to the gardening store and bought a long window box with a long ‘dish’ that fits under it, some soil, and packets of seeds”,说明他们在园艺店买了盒子、土壤和种子。 2.文章按照时间顺序记录了整个过程:先去图书馆查资料(②),然后去商店购买物品(④),回家后在盒子底部铺石子(①),最后种下香草(③)。因此正确顺序是②-④-①-③。 3.第四段提到他们种罗勒是因为喜欢披萨,种迷迭香是因为搭配烤羊肉好吃,种薄荷是因为妈妈想做薄荷茶,这一段主要解释了选择种植这些特定植物的原因。 4.最后一句“all you need is...a heart full of hope”与前面的“little soil, some seeds”并列,说明即使条件有限,只要怀着积极的心态和希望,就能享受自然。因此“a heart full of hope”暗示着对生活持积极态度。 5.文章围绕“making a window box herb garden”展开,详细描述了从想法产生到具体操作再到最终收获的全过程。 It was Day 1 of our vacation on Cortes, a beautiful quiet island. “Phone, phone, phone,” my son kept moaning (呻吟). In front of him was a big window facing the blue ocean. And a cool gentle wind was coming in from the door. Clearly, he saw and felt none of it. Back at home, I’d soon give up and hand the phone over to him after five minutes of listening to this kind of moaning. But not here. Before we left, I had told my 10-year-old son the rule—no emails, no Internet, no video games, and no cellphone. We came here to get away from them all. Here we were on our first day and already, he couldn’t stand it. I just walked outside to leave him alone. I walked down the grass road to the beach and looked out to the sea. My 6-year-old daughter and my husband were drawing on pieces of wood. They were doing just fine. On Day 2, we spent the whole morning digging for shells (贝壳). This time, my son joined us. He collected shellfish and other sea treasures. When we got back to our little wood house, I gave my son a book, and put him on the lovely garden chair. It was almost dinner when he looked up. The next few days passed in peace. On Day 6, my son was lying beside me on the beach, watching the sun going down. He was playing with the sand. And there was something shining in his eyes. I realized how time slowed down for both of us. It was exactly what I wanted. Finally, we were able to sit quietly without thinking about screens, phone calls and emails. A week away from all the electronics and life is good. 1.The writer’s family went to ________ for their vacation. A. B. C. D. 2.What rule did the writer make for the vacation? D.On the 6th day, the husband lay on the beach, watching the sun. 4.Which of the following best describes the change of the son’s feelings? A.angry→excited→proud B.worried→peaceful→hopeful C.bored→peaceful→happy D.surprised→bored→worried 5.What’s the purpose of writing the text? A.To introduce the activities during their vacation. B.To share the beautiful, quiet island with readers. C.To tell readers how the writer helped the son to give up electronics. D.To tell readers that people can have a good life without electronics. 【答案】1.A 2.B 3.B 4.C 5.D 【导语】本文讲述作者一家去安静的科尔特斯岛度假,制定禁用电子产品的规则,儿子从一开始抗拒到慢慢适应,最后享受自然,体会到无电子产品的美好生活。 1.细节理解题。根据“It was Day 1 of our vacation on Cortes, a beautiful quiet island.”可知,作者一家去了一个美丽安静的小岛度假。故选A。 2.细节理解题。根据“Before we left, I had told my 10-year-old son the rule—no emails, no Internet, no video games, and no cellphone.”可知,作者制定的规则是家人不能使用电子产品。故选B。 3.细节理解题。根据“On Day 2, we spent the whole morning digging for shells. I sat in the back of the classroom and almost never raised my hand. I was afraid of giving wrong answers and being laughed at. My grades were just so-so, and I thought I was just not smart enough. Then one day, our English teacher, Miss Huang, asked us to write a short story for a school competition. I had always enjoyed reading stories, but I had never tried writing one. Still, I decided to give it a try. I wrote about a little boy who found a wounded bird and took care of it until it could fly again. I put my heart into it and handed it in without expecting anything. A week later, Miss Huang asked me to stay after class. I thought I was in trouble. But instead, she handed me a book—a collection of short stories by a famous writer. On the first page, she had written: “To the storyteller in the back row. Your words have wings. Keep writing.” I was so surprised that I didn’t know what to say. That night, I read the first story in the book. And then the next. I couldn’t stop. For the first time, I felt that writing was not just a school task—it was a way to speak, to share, to fly. From that day on, I started writing in my notebook every night. Sometimes just a few sentences, sometimes a whole page. I didn’t show it to anyone at first, but I didn’t care. I wrote for myself. My English grades improved, and I became more confident in class. Now I’m in Grade 9, and I’m the editor of our school newspaper. I still keep that book on my desk. It reminds me that one small act of kindness can change a person’s life. Miss Huang didn’t just give me a book—she gave me a belief that my voice matters. 1.Why didn’t the writer raise his hand in class? A.He didn’t know the answers. B.He was afraid of being laughed at. Keep writing.” D.“Read this book and learn.” 4.How did the writer feel when he received the book? A.Nervous. B.Angry. C.Surprised. D.Bored. 5.What did the writer learn from Miss Huang’s gift? More than 200 students from different grades took part in this meaningful activity. They met at the playground at 3:00 p.m. and were divided into six groups according to their classes. Class 1 was responsible for the library. They carefully put the books back in order and wiped every shelf until it shone. Some students even repaired a few broken books with tape. Class 2 and Class 3 worked together in the school garden. It was a big job—they picked up dry leaves, watered nearly fifty plants, and planted twenty new colorful flowers along the path. Their hands got dirty, but they didn’t mind at all. Class 4 took charge of the dining hall. They swept the floor, cleaned all the tables and chairs, and also helped the kitchen staff organize the dishes. Class 5 and Class 6 worked on the sports field. Many people call Suzhou the “Venice of the East,” so I pictured a small town with quiet canals. As soon as we stepped out of the railway station, we were shocked. Suzhou was so huge and modern! Tall glass buildings stood beside old waterways and wooden boats. It felt strange to see both a “village” and a “city” in one place. Later, we saw an even stronger contrast in Beijing. The hutongs showed the traditional side of the city. These narrow alleys (小巷) were crowded and full of life. A short walk away, modern skyscrapers rose into the sky. People say many hutongs are disappearing each year. How lucky we were to visit them! After these surprises, we faced a challenge: the language barrier (障碍). Simple words like “toilet” or “passport” were not always understood. Translation apps became our closest friends. They helped most of the time, though sometimes the results were funny. Still, we met people who spoke fluent English in the most unexpected moments. A stranger at the Summer Palace helped us during heavy rain. A young man in an Apple Store in Shanghai sounded like a native speaker. Sometimes, we almost forgot we were abroad. These moments showed a friendly side of China. In the end, this trip gave us many good memories. We enjoyed every moment, and we really can’t wait to go back to China! 1.Before visiting Suzhou, the writer thought it was ________. A.a small town B.a huge village C.a modern city D.a big station 2.What surprised the writer in Beijing? A.The strong contrast. B.The traditional culture. C.The crowded life. D.Help from local people. 4.The experience at Summer Palace made the writer feel that Chinese people were ________. A.nervous B.friendly C.confident D.lonely 5.What’s the main idea of the passage? A.How to solve language problems. B.How to travel around China easily. C.The writer’s experience in learning. They were good friends and did almost everything together. But one day, the two had a sharp disagreement. The monkey argued that being fast and agile (敏捷的) was key to success. The elephant disagreed. He believed that strength mattered much more. Then they turned to the wise owl of the jungle for help. After listening patiently, the owl pointed to a shiny fruit on the top of a tall tree across the river. “Bring me that fruit,” he said. “And then I’ll answer your question.” The elephant and the monkey set off. When the two reached the river, the monkey froze—it was too deep and too wide for him to cross. The elephant, however, rushed forward and easily got to the tree. But when he tried to reach the fruit, he found it was too high. He pushed, pulled and even shook the big tree with all his strength, but the fruit wouldn’t budge an inch (寸). The elephant had no choice but to return to the riverbank, where the monkey was waiting. Once again, the elephant told the monkey to jump on his back. Together, they crossed the river safely. Once they reached the tree, the monkey climbed it and picked the fruit. Then they made their way back. The owl asked, “Of the two of you, which one brought the fruit to me?” The monkey proudly said, “I did! I climbed the tree and picked it.” The elephant argued, “No, I did! Without me, he couldn’t have even crossed the river!” The owl smiled and stopped the argument. “You’re both wrong,” he said. “Neither of you could have gotten the fruit alone. It was teamwork that made it possible—your speed and agility, and your strength, working together. ________ That’s the real key to success.” 1.What did the owl ask the monkey and the elephant to do at first? Weeks ago, our school organized a field trip—searching for nature’s “treasures”. The “treasure” was in Xiyuan Park, a small hill of our city. All the students and teachers were excited and joined in the hunt (搜寻) with the goal of exploring the unknown. We called it “The Exploration Journey”. Of course, I joined in, too. The rule of the game was easy. We were shown a map of the park, with a circle covering about 500 miles at first. As time went on, the circle got smaller and smaller, at last to just one foot. When I started, I thought it was exciting. I eagerly opened the map, thinking I could easily find out where the treasure was and go to get it. But as hours passed, my excitement began to fade (减弱). I went from feeling happy to feeling down. It was more difficult than I expected—thick bushes (灌木丛) and uneven (不平坦的) ground slowed my every step. The weather was getting hotter, and the map seemed to be giving me no clear direction. I understood I might not be the one taking home the prize. After the hunt was over, I met a student named Xiaoming. He told me we didn’t need to find the treasure to enjoy the game. He said, “I found lots of interesting mushrooms and cool insects during the trip. We might not have found gold, but the fun and discoveries we made were real treasures.” 1.What is the main purpose of the school trip? A.To win the prize. B.To test a new map. D.Surprised→satisfied. 4.Which one doesn’t slow the writer’s step? A.Thick bushes. B.No right map. C.The hot weather. D.Uneven ground. 5.What did Xiaoming think the real treasure was? People rushed to the edge, hearts sinking, but no one dared step onto the cracking surface. At that critical moment, 13-year-old Li Jiating, a seventh-grade student, stepped forward bravely. “I’m light—I’ll go!” she said. She took a long pipe handed to her by a bystander (旁观者) and crawled carefully toward the ice hole. As she reached out to give the pipe to the boy, the ice broke again. Both she and the boy fell into the freezing water. But Li Jiating didn’t let go. She held tightly onto the pipe until adults on the shore pulled her out. Soon after, firefighters arrived and rescued the boy. Soaked (浸湿) and shivering, Li Jiating quietly rode her bike home without saying a word. Her father asked about her wet clothes, and she smiled and “lied”: “A water truck splashed (泼洒) me!” It wasn’t until 11 p.m. that night, when her father’s sister called, that the father learned the truth. “I’m scared and sad, but also proud of her kindness,” he said. The boy’s parents were very grateful. They posted messages to find the “unknown hero” and visited Li Jiating with gifts and money. Though Li Jiating refused the money, they left fruits and a sheep. “This is our sincere thanks,” the boy’s father said. Many honors came to her. Her school named her “A Good Youth with Courage and Kindness”. The county government gave her a prize, and the hospital offered her free physical exams for life. Alibaba also gave her a 5,000-yuan award. Li Jiating’s story is like a beam of light. We praise her kindness, but we also need to teach minors (未成年人) to stay safe while helping others. The first place that most interested me was Yunnan Province. Then I set off for a new world. From the moment I walked out of the train station, Lijiang caught my eye and heart. The nice atmosphere (氛围) filled me with joy. I started to make my way through the streets of the old town. When I arrived at my homestay, a traditional wooden house and a huge white dog welcomed me. Then a laoban, or “boss”, showed up and I was able to check in. On the first day, I set out on a walk through Heilongtan Park. But some time later, I found myself walking all the way to a mountain by Heilongtan, where I took many photos of the attractive scenes. Then I received an invitation from the laoban to have a cup of tea with him. When I got back to the homestay, the laoban and his brother were waiting for me. I spent several hours with them drinking tea and talking. Later, their mother and sister came and joined us. They kept offering me different kinds of local foods that I loved very much. But our conversation turned out one of the nicest conversations I’ve ever had in China! I could not have been more thankful for the chance to meet this wonderful family. Every day after school, Ethan would rush home to play the guitar and lose himself in the beautiful music. Love, Leo. When I was in Grade 7, I was a quiet student. They picked up rubbish such as plastic bottles and paper bags, and put away basketballs, volleyballs and other equipment into the storage room. The clean-up activity lasted about one hour. A teacher said, “This event is not only about cleaning. It teaches students to be responsible for their environment and to work as a team. I saw many students helping each other without being asked. That’s the real beauty of today.” Many students felt tired but also proud. Li Ming from Class 2 smiled and said, “Our school looks more beautiful now. I’m proud that I helped make it happen. Once upon a time, in a faraway jungle (丛林), there lived a monkey and an elephant. To encourage students to explore the world around them, learn new things, and develop a deeper connection with nature, our school often holds various kinds of exciting and educational school trips. On a freezing December day in Tongxin County, Ningxia, the quiet winter air was suddenly broken by screams—a 4-year-old boy had fallen through the ice into the icy lake! As a girl graduate studying in China, I would like to see places less known to Westerners. I was often ashamed because I could not understand them. And they also felt out of place from time to time because they could not find the proper words in English. But our conversation turned out one of the nicest conversations I’ve ever had in China! I could not have been more thankful for the chance to meet this wonderful family. They showed an unbelievably strong family tie and even made me feel like one of their own. This short trip has filled me with hope and strong interest in traveling more in China. 1.What can we say about the writer? A.She studied in China. B.She is a Western explorer.
