Passage 01
阅读下面短文,回答问题。
Answer the questions. (根据短文内容回答问题。)
In China, the Dragon Boat Festival is not just about eating zongzi ( rice dumplings) or remembering the poet Qu Yuan. It also teaches a deep lesson about team spirit through dragon boat racing, a tradition that has lasted for over 2,000 years.
A dragon boat team has 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steerer. Every member must work perfectly together. The drummer beats the drum to set the rhythm, the paddlers follow the beats to row at the same speed and the steerer guides the boat’s direction. If even one person loses focus, the boat slows down or goes off course.
Last year, I joined my school’s dragon boat team. At first, we argued about who should lead. Our coach told us, “In traditional Chinese culture, harmony (和谐) is key. Teamwork means every team member matters.” We practiced hard, learning to trust each other. During races, we shouted,“One, two, one, two!” and the boat darted forward.
However, the race day was windy. Our boat faced strong waves. Instead of feeling afraid, we rowed harder, following the drummer’s steady beats. We didn’t win first place, but we felt proud because we acted as one team. The festival reminded us that success isn’t just about speed; it’s about sticking together through challenges.
1.What is one main purpose of the Dragon Boat Festival besides eating zongzi?
2.How many people are there in a dragon boat team?
3.What role does the drummer play?
4.Why did the team feel proud even without winning?
5.How can we use the lesson of dragon boat teamwork in our daily life? Give an example.
【答案】1.To teach a deep lesson about team spirit through dragon boat racing. 2.22. 3.The drummer beats the drum to set the rhythm. 4.Because they acted as one team. 5.We can use it in group projects. For example, when doing a school project, each member should play their part and cooperate well, just like in dragon boat racing.

Passage 04
阅读下面短文,回答问题。
Answer the questions (根据以下内容回答问题).
Hello, Larry,
So glad to hear from you this morning and to hear about the Chinese Lantern Festival. I note that you saw lots of fireworks IN your flat. I am sure that you meant you saw them FROM your flat. If they were IN your flat, that would be rather dangerous! Your visit to the Roman Catholic cathedral was interesting, too.
I believe you have received our New Year greetings twice over! After I wrote the card, I could not find it. It was gone. . . lost! I did not know where, so I wrote another card. Later I received a note telling me that you had received both cards. So you were doubly greeted! And, I hope, doubly blessed!
It was good to know you have been to your parents’ home for the New Year. I trust you found them well and enjoyed visiting your hometown. You must have been excited to meet your old friends and neighbours there again.
My brother John has a Chinese friend who he met in London last summer. His name is Andrew. He works with students in Beijing, and also Chinese students returning to Beijing after having studied and worked abroad—like you did. He seems a very pleasant fellow who, when I told him I had a friend recently returning from Scotland, said he would be happy to contact you if you would like that. He is currently in Taiwan but will be back in Beijing around 15th March after which, he says, he would be happy to meet up with you. If you would like to meet him, I will send you his address and/or him yours, but I will do nothing further till I hear from you.
About your question about us, as Christians, eating pork…, yes, we do indeed try to follow the teaching of the Bible (圣经) as it applies to our daily living. Some rules do not apply to us in our day though.
The sun is shining brightly today but it is still very cold this morning. There is heavy snow everywhere. In some places, power cables go wrong, too. The winter conditions are lasting longer this year than before.
Best wishes!
Sincerely,
Ken
16.Did Larry see the fireworks in his flat or from his flat?
17.Why did Ken say Larry was doubly greeted?
18.What did Larry do during his New Year holiday?
19.Where does Larry live now?
20.Write a question Larry asked Ken according to the underlined words. Why did he ask it?
21.Do you think Larry will meet up with Andrew? Why?
【答案】16.From his flat. 17.Because Ken wrote two cards to Larry and he received both of them. 18.He went to his parents’ home, met his old friends and neighbours. 19.In Beijing. 20.Do Christians eat pork? He asked the question because he was curious about Christian religious practices and dietary rules.
21.开放性试题,言之有理即可。参考答案为:Yes, I think Larry will likely meet Andrew. Andrew works with Chinese students returning from abroad, just like Larry did. This common experience could make them connect easily.
16.根据第一段“I note that you saw lots of fireworks IN your flat. I am sure that you meant you saw them FROM your flat.”可知,Ken纠正了Larry的介词使用,如果烟花在屋里 (in his flat),会很危险,所以应该是从屋里看外面的烟花 (from his flat)。故填From his flat.
17.根据第二段“After I wrote the card, I could not find it. It was gone... lost! I did not know where, so I wrote another card. Later I received a note telling me that you had received both cards.”可知,Ken写了两张贺卡给Larry,Larry都收到了;因此,Ken说Larry被双重问候了。故填Because Ken wrote two cards to Larry and he received both of them.
18.根据第三段“It was good to know you have been to your parents’ home for the New Year... You must have been excited to meet your old friends and neighbours there again.”可知,Larry在新年假期去了父母家,见到了老朋友和邻居。故填He went to his parents’ home, met his old friends and neighbours.
19.根据第四段“His name is Andrew. He works with students in Beijing, and also Chinese students returning to Beijing after having studied and worked abroad—like you did.”可知,安德鲁的工作对象包括在北京的学生,以及像Larry一样在国外学习和工作后回到北京的中国学生;据此可以推断,Larry现在住在北京。故填In Beijing.
20.根据第五段“About your question about us, as Christians, eating pork…”可知,Larry问的问题是关于基督徒是否吃猪肉;他问这个问题的原因是,Larry可能对基督徒的宗教习俗和饮食禁忌感到好奇。故填Do Christians eat pork? He asked the question because he was curious about Christian religious practices and dietary rules.
21.开放性试题,言之有理即可。参考答案为:Yes, I think Larry will likely meet Andrew. Andrew works with Chinese students returning from abroad, just like Larry did. This common experience could make them connect easily.

Foreigners join in the joy of Xishuangbanna’s Water Splashing Festival
In Xishuangbanna, a region in Yunnan Province, China, there is a fun tradition called the Water Splashing Festival. The more water people splash (泼,溅) on you, the luckier and happier you will be—this festival brings smiles and good luck to everyone who takes part. Foreign visitors also enjoy the celebrations, making the festival a truly international event.
Melissa Baidak, a visitor from Russia, was surprised when people started splashing water on her. At first, she was a little scared, but soon she joined in and had a lot of fun. “It reminded (使想起) me of my childhood,” she said with a smile.
Melissa is a doctoral student at Beijing Foreign Studies University. During her visit to Xishuangbanna, she wore a traditional Dai dress and tried many local foods. She said the most special moments were releasing Sky Lanterns at night and splashing water on others. “It was amazing to see so many lanterns in the sky, like stars twinkling (闪耀) above,” she said.
The Water Splashing Festival, usually celebrated in mid-April, is one of the most important festivals for the Dai people—an ethnic group (民族) mostly living in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. Passage 01

In the US, Mother’s Day is a holiday on the second Sunday in May. It is a day when children give their mothers cards, gifts and flowers.
The best way to celebrate (庆祝) Mother’s Day is to give your mother the day off. Let her have a good rest while other members of the family do the work.
Many families begin Mother’s Day with breakfast in bed. Usually dad and the children will let mum sleep late as they go into the kitchen and get ready for her favorite meal. A Mother’s Day breakfast can make anything your mum likes.
After the food is cooked, keep everything nicely on a plate. Don’t forget to put the bottle with only one flower. It’s spring here, the children can pick the nicest flower from the garden outside. When everything is ready, carefully carry the plate and mum’s favorite books and newspapers up to her bedroom. Cards and small gifts from the children can be put on the plate when it is given to mum in bed. Mum will be very happy to see the gifts and food.

21.Do you think Larry will meet up with Andrew? Why?

The Water Splashing Festival also draws (吸引) many tourists from neighbouring countries, where similar celebrations are held. Htike Lwin Ko, a 37-year-old from Myanmar, said his home country also celebrates the Water Splashing Festival, which usually lasts (持续) four days and people are allowed a 10-day break.
“We have some customs similar to Xishuangbanna, like releasing Sky Lanterns,” he said. “But we usually fly lanterns around October.” The Water Splashing Festival continues to be a highlight (亮点) in Xishuangbanna, drawing visitors from around the world to experience the joy and culture of the Dai people.
