A letter from Zhang Tian
Dear Friends,
My name is Zhang Tian, and I want to share my story with you. One year ago, I chose to leave my hometown and become a volunteer teacher in a small village in Guizhou Province. This decision changed my life—and taught me that your life is what
you make it.
When I first arrived, the village school was much smaller than I had imagined. The playground turned dusty on windy days and muddy when it rained. The power and water supplies were unstable, and I could only shower once every few days. For a moment, I even thought about leaving. But I stayed. I told myself: If I don’t try, nothing will change.
I introduced music, art, and PE classes to the school. The students had never played football or sung English songs before. Now, laughter fills the playground, and our first school concert is coming soon! Seeing their smiles and confidence grow made every challenge worth it.
But my journey wasn’t just about teaching. I contacted charities to rebuild the playground and set up a library. I helped villagers sell local products online. Slowly, the village became my second home.
A year ago, my parents hoped I’d work in a big city. My friends are now in Beijing or Shanghai. But I followed my heart. Yes, life here is tough, but it’s also full of meaning. My students can now read, speak, and write in English. They believe in themselves. That is my greatest pride.
So, dear friends, remember: Your choices shape your life. You might face doubts or difficulties, but don’t let others’ expectations decide your path. Be brave, work hard, and create your own story. Even small steps can lead to big changes—if you dare to try.
Follow your heart, and make your life truly yours.
Yours sincerely,
Zhang Tian

Your story is yours to write. Start today!
