IV. Teaching Procedures

Show pictures of natural disasters (earthquake, typhoon, flood, wildfire) and ask:
“What can you see in the pictures?”
“What do you know about these disasters?”
Introduce the topic: “Today we will learn how to stay safe during natural disasters.”
Step 2: Vocabulary Presentation (10 minutes)
Present the target vocabulary with pictures and simple definitions:
disaster: a sudden event that causes great damage or loss of life.
earthquake: sudden shaking of the ground.
typhoon: a huge storm with strong winds and heavy rain.
wildfire: a large fire that spreads quickly in nature.
powerful: having great strength or force.
object: a thing that you can see or touch.
indoors: inside a building.
shut: to close something firmly.
Drill pronunciation and check understanding with quick matching exercises (word to picture).
Step 3: Listening Activity (10 minutes)
Play the conversation from the textbook (Mr. Green and students discussing safety tips) .
Students complete the table in the textbook (matching disasters with safety tips).
Check answers as a class and highlight key sentences:

Step 4: Language Focus & Practice (15 minutes)

Choose one natural disaster (earthquake, typhoon, flood, or wildfire).
Write 5–6 safety tips using the target vocabulary and sentence patterns.
Example: “When it comes to typhoons, we should stay indoors and shut all windows. We need to protect ourselves from powerful winds.”
Step 6: Consolidation & Extension (10 minutes)
Group Discussion:
In small groups, students create a poster titled “Disaster Safety Tips.”
Include pictures, key vocabulary, and 3–4 safety tips for one disaster.
Presentation:
Each group briefly presents their poster to the class.
Class votes on the most useful safety tips.
Step 7: Summary & Homework Assignment (5 minutes)
Review key vocabulary and sentence patterns.
Emphasize the importance of being prepared and knowing how to stay safe.
V. Homework
Vocabulary Practice:
Write each target word 3 times and create a sentence for each.
Writing Task:
Choose a natural disaster not covered in class (e.g., tornado, tsunami). Research and write 5 safety tips in English.
Project (Optional):
Create a family emergency plan for one type of disaster. Include steps like “stay indoors,” “shut windows,” and “have something strong to protect from falling objects.”
