To some, sunglasses are a fashion choice...
But When You’re Driving, These Sunglasses May Save Your Life!
Studies by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that most (74%) of the crashes occurred on clear, sunny days. Deadly accidents are regularly caused by blinding glare (强光).
Not all sunglasses are created equal. With all the fancy fashion eyewear designs out there it can be easy to overlook what really matters — the lenses (镜片).
But now, research by scientists from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has brought forth ground-breaking technology. This superior lens technology was first discovered when NASA scientists looked to nature for a means to superior eye protection by studying the eyes of eagles, known for their extreme visual acuity (敏锐度). This discovery resulted in what is now known as Eagle Eyes®.
The Only Sunglass Technology Certified by the Space Foundation for UV and Blue-Light Eye Protection. The TriLenium® Lens Technology blocks 99.99% UVA and UVB-plus the added benefit of blue-light eye protection.

Pang Zhongwang, a 26-year-old PhD student at Tsinghua University, has recently been appointed(任命为) a think-tank expert and cultural tourism ambassador(大使) for his hometown Wuqiao County, Hebei, drawing public attention again.
Pang first rose to fame in 2017, scoring 684/750 in the gaokao despite severe family hardship: his father has schizophrenia and his mother had a lower-limb disability. He earned admission to Tsinghua University but refused financial help from entrepreneurs, excelling(出类拔萃) in his PhD studies and publishing several academic papers.
Sadly, his mother, his biggest inspiration, passed away in 2020 at 48. From childhood, Pang took on household duties, cared for his parents, and even collected recyclable garbage(垃圾) to support his family before the gaokao. His mother’s optimistic spirit shaped his positive attitude.
His recent statement,“Our generation’s mission is to serve the country through scientific research,”has gone viral online, making him a role model for disadvantaged youth.
24. What is the main reason for which Pang regained public attention recently?
A. He has published groundbreaking research. B. He has new responsibilities for his hometown.
C. He gave a viral speech at Tsinghua University. D. He started a charity for disadvantaged youth.
25. How did Pang help support his family in his middle school?
A. By borrowing money from neighbors. B. By relying on his grandparents’ support.

More than 10 million Chinese cultural relics have been lost overseas, most of which were stolen and illegally shipped out (运出) of China during the times of war before 1949. About 1.67 million pieces are housed in more than 200 museums in 47 countries, which accounts for 10 percent of all lost Chinese cultural relics, and the rest are in the hands of private collectors.
Most of these treasures are owned by museums or private collectors in the United States, Europe, Japan and Southeast Asian countries. There are more than 23, 000 pieces in the British Museum, most of which were stolen or bought for pennies more than 100 years ago.
The major method to recover these national treasures was to buy them back. In some cases, private collectors donated the relics to the government. Also the government can turn to official channels (渠道) to demand the return of relics.
In 2003, a priceless (无价的) Bronze Pig’s Head (青铜猪头) dating from the Qing Dynasty (清朝) was returned to its home in Beijing after it was removed by the Anglo-French Allied Army over 140 years ago. Macao entrepreneur (企业家) Stanley Ho (何鸿燊) donated 6 million yuan to buy it back from a US art collector and then donated it to the Poly Art Museum in Beijing.
Although buying-back is the most possible way to recover the lost treasures, limited funding is always a big headache.
In recent years, the Chinese government has improved efforts to recover the precious cultural relics lost overseas. It has started a national project on the recovery of the treasures and has set up a database (数据库) collecting relevant information. It has signed several international agreements with many countries on this matter, and is also looking for international cooperation to recover the relics by working closely with several international organizations.
28. What can be inferred from paragraph 1?
A. Countries of the world prefer Chinese cultural relics.
B. The war caused a serious loss of Chinese cultural relics.
C. Private collectors made a fortune by selling cultural relics.
D. We need to forcefully demand the return of lost cultural relics.
29. How the Bronze Pig’s Head returned to the motherland?
A. Recover through scientists. B. Purchase through our government.
C. Donate through Stanley Ho. D. Return through foreign governments.
30. What efforts have the Chinese government made to recover lost cultural relics?
①Set up a national project to recover. ②Found a database to collect information.
③Sign several international agreements. ④Establish several international organizations.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ②③④ D. ①②③④
31. Which will be talked about in the following paragraph?
A. The cultural relics to be brought back to China. B. Some funds raised by the Chinese government.
C. Some examples of international cooperation. D. The problems challenging the Chinese government.
D
Batteries are getting smaller, lighter and more powerful all the time. A group at the University of Cambridge has used the eel’s (鳗鱼) way to come up with what it calls“jelly batteries”. These are made from hydrogels (水凝胶) containing over 60% water. This makes them both soft and flexible. While most batteries experience a loss of electricity if they are bent or stretched (拉伸), a jelly battery can be stretched up to one-and-a-half times its length with no electricity loss. This means it can be worn more comfortably against the skin and prove stronger when implanted into internal organs, like the lung, heart or brain.
The jelly battery works in much the same way that biological processes, such as the nervous system, produce electricity. They rely on the different concentrations of electrically charged particles (粒子) that exist within different body cells. This creates a difference in electrical potential, which in turn produces a tiny amount of electricity. Electric eels strengthen it by having thousands of muscle cells acting together to produce power strong enough to hunt. Much as an electric eel can increase small electrical with the help of muscle cells, jelly batteries can increase their output by being tied together. They can also be charged and discharged by connecting a power source.
The group thinks jelly batteries could be marketed without great difficulty, and that the cost of making them would be reasonable when compared with present battery technologies. The next step for the Cambridge team is to test the biological safety of their jelly batteries when implanted in human body: although, as they are mainly water-based, the team does not expect any rejection(排异) problems. Besides wearable and implantable devices, another potential market for stretchable batteries is soft robotics where stretchy parts would be safer to operate among people than traditional robots. They could help power other devices, such as gloves that allow disabled people to move their hands.
32. What makes a jelly battery soft and flexible?
A. Its structure. B. Its shape. C. Its length. D. Its material.
33. How can jelly batteries produce enough electricity?
A. By relying on energy sources to get charged. B. By creating a difference in electrical potential.
C. By gathering plenty of cells to work as a team. D. By joining themselves together to increase power.
34. What can be inferred about jelly batteries from the last paragraph?
A. Their business use is around the corner. B. Their production cost is greatly reduced.
C. Their biological application is promising. D. Their potential in robotics is beyond limit.
35. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. Jelly batteries: A Nature’s Solution B. Soft batteries: Safe for Human Body
C. Soft batteries: Huge Market Demand D. Jelly batteries: A Stretchable Power Source
第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
If you’re reading this, you were probably born in the 2000s. The oh-ohs. The 21st century. That would make you young, creative, connected, global, and no doubt smart. Maybe good looking, too. Right? 36
Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. 37 Because you use your phone so much and they wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies to become successful in real life — or “IRL”, as you would say?
Other adults worry that you are spoilt (宠坏的) and are lacking in the independent living skills. 38 Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents” who were always there to guide and help them with a busy schedule filled with homework and extra-curricular activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today’s youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.
39 Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. The youth also seem to be enthusiastic (热情的) and willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school.
So if you’re one of the oh-ohs, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. 40 Chances are that you will do GR8 (great) and LOL (laugh out loud).
A. You aren’t even given chances to face the challenges of adult life.
B. You always face down and barely notice your surroundings.
C. But what do other people think about your generation?
D. The face-down generation actually needs a heads-up.
E. Are the face-down oh-ohs a let-down generation?
F. They view you as the “face-down generation”.
G. You are a promising generation definitely.

Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school. On turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let's go and see!”
“No,” said Henry. “Let us go home quietly and not meddle with (管闲事) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together and I don't want them to worry about us.”
“You are a coward (懦夫), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.
But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down on Henry and didn't want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Robert for his rude behaviour, because he knew that they misunderstood him. Thus, he just ignored the other boys' laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn't invite Henry to go home together with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled and cried for help, but he failed. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did nothing to help him.
Paragraph 1:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying.
Paragraph 2:
Thus, Robert's life was saved.

A Memorable Fun Sports Meet
Last Monday our school held a fun sports meet for all teachers, bringing a precious relaxation to teachers and students.
Different from traditional sports meets, the games were full of fun, including tug-of-war and three-person four-legged race. All the teachers took an active part, laughing and cheering excitedly while all the students watched this exciting sports meet, rooting for their favorite teachers.
Not only did this activity help teachers relax from busy work, but it also strengthened the bond between teachers and students. It was warmly praised by everyone, and we hope to hold more such activities in the future.
67.参考范文:
Paragraph 1:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying. Obviously, he was in a critical situation and at a loss what to do next. Just at that moment, Henry happened to be passing by. Hearing the screams, Henry raced to the riverside, took off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He swam to Robert as fast as possible. Fortunately, he reached Robert just when he was about to sink. With great effort and much danger to himself, he managed to bring Robert to the shore.
Paragraph 2:
Thus, Robert's life was saved. Robert and his new friends were ashamed of having called Henry a coward. They realized that Henry had true courage. They apologized sincerely to Henry for their rude behaviour and asked for forgiveness. Henry did forgive them. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was — never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.
听力稿:
1. M: Welcome back, Janet. The results of your X-rays came in today. They are in a bit of trouble.
W: What’s the matter? Will I be OK?
M: Sorry, I mean that the images are no good. We’ll redo the X-ray today.
2. M: Did you go to the new pizza restaurant on Bold Street?
W: Yes. It isn’t bad. You get a free soft drink and a free salad with every meal — and they are amazing! Plus, the pizzas were pretty good for the price, but I’ve had better ones.
3. M: I think we should put off the hiking trip.
W: Because of the weather forecast? I just checked; it’s going to pour all weekend.
M: Exactly. Let’s aim for next weekend instead.
W: Sure, I’ll let the others know about it.
4. M: Can you meet me at the theater at seven thirty?
W: No, I’m making dinner with my family then.
M: OK. Will you be done eating by eight?
W: Let’s make it nine. I have to help with the dishes after we eat.
5. W: I can get tickets for the baseball game tomorrow.
M: You can? That’s amazing. I have heard the tickets are hard to come by. It’s supposed to be a big game.
W: Yeah, it will also be a close game. I’m starting to feel nervous for the players already.
6. M: You haven’t seen the new TV talent show, have you?
W: I saw the first program, but I didn’t really enjoy it. I decided to watch the new cookery program instead last night.
M: That was so boring!
W: How do you know? You didn’t see it.
M: I’ve seen the reviews and they all said the same thing.
W: Well, I liked it. The reviews said that the wild animal documentary last week was terrible and they were wrong about that, too!
7. W: How was your interview going?
M: You know what? I had coffee all down my suit and the interview started in ten minutes!
W: Oh no! That's awful. So what did you do?
M: Well, what could I do? I just had to go in.
W: Not a great first impression.
M: I know. But I just explained what had happened and they totally understood. It kind of broke the ice, making the atmosphere quite relaxing and it all went quickly after that.
8.W: Right next to me is the winner of the 10th Extreme Bicycle Race. So, Alex, how does first place feel?
M: Much better than second place, that’s for sure!
W: And this is your first time winning in the ten years of competing, right?
M: Actually, this is my first time winning in the Extreme Bicycle Race, but I’ve also won another two races: a local race back home in Ireland and a Road Bicycle Race in Canada.
W: Oh yes, Canada. That was about five years ago.
M: Four to be exact.
W: So, what is your next step in your cycling career? The Tour de France?
M: Well, I’m thinking of taking a break from competitions. I hope to create a cycling club where I can teach young cyclists everything I know.
9.W: Excuse me! I'm waiting for the number 87 bus that goes by Main Street. Is this the right stop?
M: Yes, it is. I'm just checking the schedule on my phone and it says it should be here right now. But it came by five minutes ago. I guess it came early. The next one comes in half an hour.
W: Oh, I'm going to be late for a conference. I would have driven, but my car is at the repair shop.
M: That's too bad. Are you living around here?
W: Yes, I' ve been here for one month! I used to live downtown, but I prefer it out here, where the environment is much better.
M: I know what you mean. And what I like most about this area is the low cost of living. The only problem is that going to the city center takes a lot longer.
W: Oh, I'm really late. Maybe I should just take a taxi. Are you going to Main Street as well? Do you want to share a taxi there?
M: That would be great, actually. I'm meeting a friend for lunch and I don't want to keep him waiting.
10.M: Good morning, everyone. The project today is for you to interview one of the college professors. You’ll write an article about the person you talk to. Each group of three students will be given a different person. These are the photos of last year’s end-of-year dinner. The dinner was to honor Professor Wyatt on his retirement. He’s the large man seated at the head of the table. To his left is Mrs. Lehman, head of the Mathematics Department. The lady with the blue skirt is Professor Linda Spark, but she doesn’t wear eyeglasses any more. In this picture, she has red hair but this year is black. Your groups are placed on the board at the back of the class. With each group is the name of a person you’re given to interview. Please remember the interview must not take more than 30 minutes. Plan your questions beforehand to save time. This is a class in journalism. You’ll have to practice meeting a closing date. You’ll be great. I’m certain. Now go to work!
