【原文】M: I’ve been feeling bored all day. Maybe I should do something.
W: I understand sometimes when I feel that way, I clean up the house.
M: But I think being outdoors might help, like running a few laps around the basketball court.

【原文】M: Did you know that trees can turn to stone?
W: How can that be possible? Trees are living things.
M: Well, over millions of years, minerals replace the wood and the tree turns into a fossil, so it’s a tree and a rock at the same time.

【原文】M: This looks beautiful. I can't believe you finally did it.
W: I know I've been meaning to learn how to sew. For years. I had to really concentrate and I made a few mistakes, but it's okay.
M: This is exactly your size. You've done a great job.
4. C
【原文】M: Do you have everything you need? Pencils, pens and a calculator.
W: Yes, I checked about five times, but I’m worried I missed some knowledge and won’t be able to answer the questions.
M: You revise so much at home and school. Nothing will help you succeed like hard work.

【原文】W: Oh, is this the new show everyone is talking about? What are your thoughts on it so far?
M: I wish I could tell you my. Internet connection keeps cutting out. I’ve only seen the first part.
W: That’s annoying.

【原文】W: Do you think I’m too old to pass my driving test?
M: Of course not. You’re only 40. My mom was five years older than you when she finally passed.
W: Really? That makes me feel better.
M: You’re never too old to learn. Learning new skills when we’re older gives us deeper understanding.
W: Good point. I was nervous and anxious when I was around 20 years old. That’s partly why I didn’t take my test then. Do you think it’s silly to be worried about it now?
M: Not at all. Studies show mature learners often perform better because they have more patience and focus.

【原文】M: Organizing this outdoor music festival is way harder than I thought. These dishes look amazing, but I simply have no appetite right now.
W: What’s causing the biggest headache?
M: The park I wanted is taken. And I’m still waiting for the council to give permits for us to use a different location.
W: What about using the stadium instead?
M: It is too far away and some of the bands haven’t confirmed if they are available.
W: Sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate.
M: Yeah, I want it all to run smoothly, but it’s a nightmare.
W: Let’s try our luck at the nearby university later to see if we can use their sports field.
M: Great plan. I’ll finish this bite and we’ll be on our way.

【原文】W: Do you have a moment to talk about decorating my new place?
M: Sure, how’s the move going so far?
W: Well, I’ve looked at so many paint samples, but I can’t decide. The walls are still plain and I don’t want to choose something I’ll regret later.
M: Have you thought about picking a light color to keep it simple? Or you could start with some furniture you like and match the colors to that.
W: I’ve considered that, but I’m not sure if the colors will look right together. It’s hard to picture how everything will fit.
M: I understand. I have some design magazines you can borrow. They’ll give you ideas and show how colors and furniture go together.
W: That sounds perfect. I can’t wait.
M: Everything will come together once you have a few ideas in place.
W: Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me about all this.
M: Come on, don’t be so polite. You’ve helped me so many times before.

W: Oh no, we’ve just started our best premium package for 10 dollars more than the original 50 dollars with improved image quality. There is an additional five dollars fee for equipment, which is quite reasonable.
M: That sounds interesting. What exactly is this equipment?
W: It’s a new set-top box that offers more features such as extra movies on demand, services and recording functions.
M: That does sound good. I love watching movies.

Ladies and gentlemen, judges and fellow debaters,
Let me address today’s topic directly: the overuse of AI assistants does weaken teenagers’ thinking abilities, and here’s why.
Firstly, AI assistants provide instant answers, which may discourage teenagers from engaging in deep thinking and problem-solving on their own. Secondly, AI discourages active engagement with knowledge. This creates a generation of passive consumers, not active learners.
Hence, over-reliance on AI tools can indeed weaken teenagers’ thinking abilities. Let’s use technology as a tool — not a shortcut — so we don’t lose the very skills we’ll need to solve tomorrow’s problems. Thank you.

Lucy’s eyes lit up, and she picked up her violin without a word. She played the opening
notes slowly, her bow moving with quiet confidence. Emma listened carefully and adjusted her
rhythm to match the gentle rise and fall of the violin. They paused, discussed, and tried again.
Gradually, their sounds began to blend, creating something that was both powerful and tender. By
the end of the afternoon, Lucy said with quiet joy, “This actually sounds special.” Emma smiled.
“Told you drums and violin could work,” she said, with pride and friendship shining in her eyes.
On the night of the showcase, the auditorium was full of students and parents. When their
turn came, Emma and Lucy walked onstage side by side. Lucy took a deep breath and lifted her
violin. As her sweet melody filled the air, Emma joined in with soft beats, supporting rather than
overpowering. Together, they created a beautiful conversation between the drums and the violin.
When the last note ended, the audience burst into warm applause. Backstage, Lucy turned to
Emma and whispered, “Thank you — for listening.” In that moment, they weren’t just partners in
music, but true friends.

China’s rich intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is vividly preserved in specialized museums
that showcase age-old crafts and traditions. Here are three renowned institutions offering profound
cultural insights.
China National Arts and Crafts Museum (Beijing)
Established in 2022, the museum stands on Beijing’s Central Axis, also called China
Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum. Its architectural design mixes Forbidden City aesthetics
with modern elements, symbolizing cultural continuity. The collection spans 11 craft categories,
including jade carvings and textiles. highlighting its treasures are four imperial jade masterpieces
carved from a single raw stone, such as Magnificent Scenery of Mount Tai, representing China’s
craft height. Free to visit (with reservation), it’s a premier venue for understanding national-level
ICH.
China Yunjin Museum (Nanjing)
It is dedicated to Yunjin, the “cloud brocade” once exclusive to emperors. Its star exhibit is
the Plain Silk Gown — a Han Dynasty relic thinner than cicada wings, embodying ancient
weaving mastery. The museum preserves traditional Jacques looms and demonstrates the complex
production process, where a single piece may take years to complete. Visitors witness how this
luxurious textile, named for its cloud-like beauty, has evolved while preserving cultural essence.
Puzhen Bai Ethnic Tie-Dye Museum (Yunnan)
It showcases tie-dye, a UNESCO-listed craft. Located in Dali, it displays both traditional
and contemporary works, from indigo-dyed fabrics to innovative designs. What sets it apart is
interactive experiences: visitors can try tying and dyeing fabrics themselves, engaging directly
with the “zhahua” technique. The museum preserves the Bai people’s ecological dyeing methods,
using natural paints and plant materials, reflecting harmony between humans and nature.
These museums not only exhibit artifacts but also breathe life into endangered skills, inviting global audiences to appreciate China’s cultural legacy.
21.What can we learn about China National Arts and Crafts Museum?
A.It opened to the public in 2020. B.Its architectural style is fully modern.
C.Visitors need a reservation for free entry. D.Its collection only includes jade carvings.
22.What makes Puzhen Bai Ethnic Tie-Dye Museum unique?
A.Emperor exclusive relics. B.Traditional cultural works.
C.Textile-related techniques. D.Hands-on visitor experiences.
23.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To teach weaving skills. B.To compare ICH museums.
C.To call for ICH preservation. D.To introduce cultural artifacts.
B
My son still tells people this story, though he and I remember it differently. The difference is more a matter of the way we feel about what happened — what it says about us.
New England was in the middle of a July heat wave, and we were driving from a funeral in Massachusetts back to summer camp in Maine, where I ran a music program and fifteen-year-old Darius was a camper. Twelve years had passed since the accident that had taken the lives of my wife and older son, and Darius and I were finally in a good place. But funerals could still be triggering, and even though my grandfather had made it past a hundred, we’d still been unprepared.
The funeral was more stressful than sad. My mother asked me to play a song, so I prepared George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass.” But I got performance anxiety, messed up the chords, and almost dropped the guitar.
We left quickly, wanting to get back to camp for a play that night. On the highway, I realized too late that the car was out of gas. The Corolla ran out of gas and stopped halfway up the road. We discovered a gas station was a little over a mile away.
I told Darius to sit in the driver’s seat. When I shouted “Now,” he put the car in neutral (空档) and I pushed. Somehow, impossibly, the car rolled up the hill. I hopped into the passenger seat, and we coasted down the other side.
But even after coasting, the car still couldn’t make it to the station. We had to walk the last mile, taking turns carrying the gas can.
That day became a legend for Darius: My dad pushed a car up a hill. I knew it was more luck than strength, but he saw me as a hero.
When I remember now, I think mostly of our walk back, the two of us passing the can, Darius smiling and calm. His gift has always been empathy, kindness, and a sense of hope. I don’t know what got that car moving, but I know who kept me moving toward the future.
24. Why does the author mention the funeral at the beginning?
A. To show the emotional setting. B. To present the travel schedule.
C. To reveal the family background. D. To highlight the grandfather’s age.
25. Why did the father push the car uphill?
A. To move the car safely. B. To avoid missing the play.
C. To test Darius’ driving skills. D. To reach a nearby gas station.
26. What does Darius mainly remember from that day?
A. The failure at the funeral. B. His grandfather’s long life.
C. His father’s heroic strength. D. Their walk with the gas can.
27. What is the main message of the story?
A. Hard work always pays off. B. Family bonds help overcome loss.
C. Luck is more important than effort. D. Strength matters more than empathy.
C
For years, cities worldwide have been enthusiastically replacing traditional streetlights with LED systems promoted as “smart lighting”. Officials praise their energy efficiency, cost savings, and enhanced safety. However, a growing body of research suggests that the benefits of this transition are not as clear-cut as they seem, and the potential negative impacts on human health and the environment are often overlooked.
The primary selling point of these systems is their remarkable energy efficiency, which can reduce a city’s electricity consumption for public lighting by 50% or more. This translates into significant financial savings and a reduction in carbon emissions. Yet, this focus on efficiency has overshadowed critical discussions about light quality. Many LED systems emit a high proportion of blue-rich white light, which is known to suppress melatonin (褪黑激素) production at night, disrupting sleep cycles in humans and animals. The ecological consequences are equally concerning, as excessive artificial light, particularly blue light, can confuse nocturnal wildlife.
Furthermore, the “smart” features that allow for remote dimming or motion-sensor-based activation raise complex social questions. While intended to improve energy use, they can lead to uneven lighting distribution. A study found that motion-sensor lights in quieter, low-traffic areas often remained dim for longer periods, potentially creating perceived safety issues and raising concerns about justice in access to public infrastructure. The promise of enhanced safety is also debated, as overly harsh lighting can create sharp contrasts, actually reducing overall visibility.
Real-world implementation faces challenges beyond technology. The initial investment is high, and the projected long-term benefits require careful evaluation. More importantly, the management of these multi-functional systems can be complex. Issues of “multiple management” may arise when different departments are responsible for various functions integrated into a single pole, leading to coordination difficulties.
The challenge, therefore, is not to reject the technology outright, but to adopt a more skillful approach. This involves prioritizing warmer-color LEDs, implementing strategic dimming schedules that balance safety and environmental needs, and conducting thorough community impact assessments before large-scale installations. True intelligence in urban lighting lies not in the sophistication of the technology alone, but in its thoughtful integration into the complex fabric of city life.
28. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To explain LED technical principles. B. To question the advantages of smart lighting.
C. To list government financial benefits. D. To predict the future of urban lighting.
29. What does the underlined word “overshadowed” in paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. Shone. B. Strengthened. C. Dominated. D. Concealed.
30. What can be inferred from paragraph 3 about motion-sensor lights?
A. They can solve energy waste successfully. B. They may cause accessible infrastructure injustice.
C. They can work best in busy areas. D. They have safety benefits.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. Unstoppable Rise of Smart Lighting. B. LED: A Revolution in Urban Planning.
C. Smart Lighting: A Critical Re- examination. D. How Smart Lighting Improves Safety.
D
For years, global climate models relied on an elegant and convenient idea. Black carbon particles were treated as regular spheres (圆球) with a single core of carbon. Its unique structure helped shape how scientists assessed the warming effects of black carbon worldwide. Yet it also carried a hidden assumption: that each particle contained only one core. As measurements built up, a troubling gap arose. Observations in the real atmosphere consistently showed that black carbon absorbed roughly 50% more light than models predicted.
The answer began to appear during fieldwork conducted in Yunnan’s wildfire season. What they saw challenged the traditional picture. About one-fifth, or 21%, of black carbon particles in long-range transported wildfire smoke contained not one core, but two or more. These multi-core particles were especially common among larger air particles exceeding 400 nanometers (纳米) in width. Instead of a single carbon center, these particles resembled groups formed through crashing and combining, with individual cores often exceeding 200 nanometers in size. This structure had largely gone unnoticed in global climate models. Yet its effects were great. If black carbon particles commonly carry multiple cores, their ability to absorb light changes dramatically.
Identifying multi-core particles was only the beginning. The researchers faced a second challenge: translating nanoscale observations into global climate predictions. To do this, they turned to machine learning. The team developed a machine learning device capable of quantifying how multi-core structures enhance light absorption. This device was then introduced into a global atmospheric model, allowing the scientists to forecast how these particles behave across the planet.
The results were striking. Multi-core black carbon particles were found to contribute to a 19% increase in global average black carbon absorption. The effect was especially pronounced in wildfire-affected regions, including Southeast Asia, southwestern China, the Tibetan Plateau, Southern Africa, and North America. In these areas, the overlooked structure of black carbon had been quietly boosting warming.
32. What helped scientists evaluate the warming effects of black carbon?
A. The assumed single-core structure of black carbon.
B. Observations of black carbon in the real atmosphere.
C. The light absorption rate of black carbon in the atmosphere.
D. Comparison between model predictions and actual measurements.
33. How does the author present the new discovery in paragraph 2?
A. By giving examples. B. By defining a concept.
C. By quoting an expert. D. By providing statistics.
34. Why did the researchers turn to machine learning?
A. To develop light absorption devices.
B. To better predict global climate changes.
C. To identify multi-core structures accurately.
D. To further observe black carbon’s behaviors.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Wildfire Smoke: A Hidden Climate Trouble.
B. Machine Learning: A Helper for Climate Forecast.
C. Single-core Structure: The Fault in Climate Models.
D. Multi-core Black Carbon: The Overlooked Heat-maker.

Many families find themselves questioning whether there’s a need for their children to do chores at home. But Dr. Harris believes chores aren’t just about keeping a clean home._____36_____
Assigning regular household duties can enhance children’s cognitive development. According to Dr. Harris, chores strengthen core management skills — the brain’s ability to plan, focus, change between tasks and manage time effectively._____37_____. They develop stronger working memory, better emotional regulation and more mental flexibility.
Chores can foster children’s independence and sense of responsibility at different ages. Younger children love to feel capable. Cleaning up toys or wiping down and setting the table, simple tasks like these develop independence._____38_____. Dr. Harris encourages parents to frame these not as punishments, but as opportunities to grow. When kids feel a sense of ownership, they’re more likely to follow through. And giving them a say in what they do can go a long way.
_____39_____. “One symptom of depression is lack of motivation, and the best solution to that is activity,” Dr. Harris explains. “A set routine, even a small, manageable responsibility can help get kids moving and thinking.” In the case of anxiety, chores can offer a sense of control and predictability. “An anxious brain works well with structure,” she adds. “Doing something real and productive can ease distracting thoughts and provide a break from chaotic thoughts.”
Of course, every minute of a typical family life today can be accounted for, leaving parents to wonder whether to insist on chores at all. Dr. Harris acknowledges this tension and encourages flexibility. “When life gets busy, it’s okay to pull back,” she says. “_____40_____.” Actually, kids don’t need to do everything, but they should do something when they have time.
A. Chores help children build confidence and empathy
B. But when there’s room, lean into those opportunities
C. These are skills that serve them well, far into adulthood
D. Kids who have chores are typically better self-managers
E. Asking kids to help out around the house can have powerful lifelong benefits
F. Chores can also support mental health, particularly for kids with anxiety or depression
G. For older children and teens, tasks can become more complex such as helping cook meals

At the start of this term, our school announced a “Spring Music Showcase.” Emma, who
loved playing the drums, immediately signed up. She practiced every day after class in the music
room, her rhythm sharp and full of energy.
Lucy, on the other hand, was quiet and serious. She played the violin beautifully but rarely
spoke in front of others. When their music teacher suggested that they work together as a pair and
said, “Drums and violin could be something special,” Emma agreed at once. Lucy hesitated but
finally nodded.
Their first rehearsal was a disaster. Emma wanted fast beats and loud fills (鼓点) ; Lucy
preferred slow melodies and soft notes. “You’re drowning out my violin!” Lucy said, frustration
creeping into her voice. “And you’re playing like you’re afraid to be heard!” Emma shot back.
They left the room without saying goodbye.
For two days, they avoided each other in the hallway. But then, during lunch, Emma saw
Lucy sitting alone, softly humming a tune while tapping her fingers on the table. She was trying to
match a drum rhythm. Emma remembered how Lucy had stayed late last week to help a younger
student with her violin. Maybe Lucy wasn’t being difficult — maybe she was just nervous.
Later that day, Emma passed the notice board and saw their names still listed for the
showcase. The performance was in ten days. She felt a pang of guilt. Music wasn’t just about
being loud or fast but also about listening, too. That evening, she sat at her desk, sketching out a
new arrangement that blended Lucy’s gentle melody with softer, steady drumbeats. She even left
space for silence because sometimes, silence spoke louder than sound.
The next afternoon, Emma knocked on the music room door. Lucy looked up, surprised. “I
thought of a new way,” Emma said, holding up a sheet of paper. “We start with your melody…
and I’ll follow your lead.”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式作答。
Lucy’s eyes lit up, and she picked up her violin without a word.
On the night of the showcase, the auditorium was full of students and parents.
