Has your teacher ever visited your home? Home visits used to be a key way for teachers and families to communicate. 1
A recent survey in Zhejiang Province found that 85.5 percent of 6,200 parents don’t like teachers visiting their homes, reported CCTV.
2 Some parents have a strong sense of privacy (隐私), while others find the preparation work tiring. For busy teachers, visiting all their students’ homes can take up (占用) too much of their time and energy.
To solve the problem, schools and teachers in China are trying new ways to communicate. For example, Wang Hongjun, a principal in Shenzhen, holds parent—teacher meetings twice each term instead of once. 3 Then they have one—on—one meetings with each parent. This makes communication clearer and more efficient (高效的).
Wang’s school also offers group activities and book clubs to support parents’ development. This program shows the importance of a peaceful home environment for children. 4
Other schools are also trying new ideas. 5 Shanghai Municipal Kindergarten asks parents first if they like the idea. If they do, home visits take place; if not, communication happens online. This way results in “full communication and understanding between home and school”, a parent told The Paper.
A.There are several reasons for this.
B.However, parents like these ideas better.
C.But traditional visits are now less welcomed.

D.These include meeting in public places like cafes.
E.During these meetings, teachers give a summary first.
F.As a result, Chinese schools try new ways to do home visits.
G.It also develops a stronger relationship between school and family.

When you’re invited to a Chinese friend’s home for dinner, there are some important rules to follow.
First, picking the right gift matters. 1 In China, gifts like a box of good-tasting tea or some sweet-smelling flowers are nice. If the family has kids, you can bring some interesting snacks or small toys. But don’t choose gifts that are too expensive or too strange.
When you get to the host’s home, say hello in a proper way. 2 Smile and say “Hello” to the elders first. You can shake hands gently. If you know the family well, a friendly hug might be okay, too.
During the meal, there are things you should do. Wait until the elders start eating. 3 If you use chopsticks, don’t wave them around or stick them in your food. If you find chopsticks hard to use, it’s fine to ask for a spoon or fork.
The host may say, “There’s not much food. Just eat as much as you can.” 4 They’re just being polite. You should say how delicious the food is and how much you like it. This makes the host happy.
After the meal, you can’t just leave right away. 5 You can help clear the table a little if the host allows. Then, chat with the family for a while. When you leave, say “Thank you” again and tell them you had a great time.
A.This shows you’re polite and well-mannered.
B.Don’t believe what they say.
C.Choose gifts that people in China will like.
D.Greet the people in the house warmly.
E.It’s okay to start eating before the elders.
F.Stay and talk with the family for a bit.
G.Then you can start eating, too.
