Teaching Objectives Language Ability:Master the pronunciation and spelling of key vocabulary; grasp the core dialogue model to talk about international charities and their work; master the sentence pattern Cultural Awareness:Know four famous international charities ; realize the significance of charity work in helping people in need and cultivate the awareness of caring for others. Thinking Quality:Analyze the work content of different charities and match the helping methods with the groups in need; think about the reasons why charities are established and connect with real social needs. Learning Ability:Guess the meaning of new words through pictures and context; cooperate in pairs to imitate and create dialogues, and improve the ability of oral expression and language application. II. Key & Difficult Points Key:Mastering the vocabulary related to charities; using the dialogue model to introduce international charities and their work; grasping the sentence patterns It was founded in... and provide sb with sth. Difficult:Flexibly using the target language to introduce the work of other charities; combining real life to talk about the volunteer work students can do for charities. III. Teaching Procedures Step 1: Lead-in Show pictures of people in need (children with lip problems, people with eye diseases, poor children without education). Ask guiding questions: Q1: What difficulties are these people facing? Q2: Who can help them in our society? Lead in the topic: Today we will learn about international charities and how they help people in need. Step 2: Presentation (1) Vocabulary Teaching Show pictures and match with new words (2) Charity Introduction Show the four charities in the textbook (Orbis, World Vision, WWF, Doctors Without Borders) and ask students to listen to the introduction and match the names with the pictures. (3) Dialogue & Sentence Patterns Let students read the dialogue between Amy and Simon, underline the key sentence patterns and explain: It was founded in 1982. (be founded in + 年份:成立于……) It provides them with free operations and medical care. (provide sb with sth:为某人提供某物) Supplement the transformation: provide sth for sb (e.g., It provides free operations for sick children.) Step 3: Practice Pair Work: Dialogue Imitation Ask students to work in pairs and imitate the dialogue with the four charities. Model: S1: Do you know any important charities? S2: Yes. For example, I've heard of WWF. It was founded in 1961. S1: So what do they do? S2: It works to protect animals and the natural world. It provides help for endangered animals. Step 4: Exercises Fill in the blanks with the correct form of the words/phrases. This charity ______ (found) in 1982 to help children in need. The hospital ______ the patients ______ free medical treatment (provide). Many ______ (volunteer) go to poor areas to help people every year. IV.
