The Town
Snow Owl is in the north of the country. It stands at the foot of Sky Mountain, and is surrounded (围绕) by a forest. People call it Dark Forest because the trees are so close together and the sunlight cannot come through. A wonderful river comes down from the mountain and passes through the town.
For most of the year, the town is covered (覆盖) in snow. Not many people know about it and I am really happy with that. I like it to be calm and quiet.
The People
People here are really friendly and care about each other. We always try to help when someone needs it. But there is one problem: everyone knows a lot about each other, so there are no secrets (秘密).

The town itself doesn’t have a lot to visit. A big library from the 1800s is standing in the middle of the village, next to the Town Hall.
There are also three bridges over the river. The one in the south is the oldest and most beautiful. I sometimes sit by the river just to enjoy it.

In ancient China, there were “four treasures of the study”—the writing brush, ink, paper, and the inkstone (砚台). Among all the inkstones, the Chengni inkstone was one of the most famous and was widely loved.
The Chengni inkstone first appeared during the Western Han Dynasty, but the skills of making it were lost during the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty. Thankfully, today the traditional skills have been revived (恢复) with the help of Lin Yongmao and his son Lin Tao.
In 1984, Lin Yongmao began working at the museum in Xinjiang, got to know Shanxi Chengni inkstone, and then decided to revive the lost skills.
It was easier said than done. It took the father and the son two years to find proper materials to produce the Chengni inkstone. That was just the first step. After failing many times, they finally succeeded in making two Chengni inkstones in 1991. Three years later, their Chengni inkstones won a gold prize at an expo (博览会) on China’s famous inkstones.
But the father and son did not stop here. While improving the skills of making the Chengni inkstone, they set up a workshop in the hope of passing the skills on to young people. They also worked with universities and colleges to make the Chengni inkstone more popular. At the same time, Lin Tao has created special Chengni inkstone products and brought them to competitions at home and abroad to expand the influence of the Chengni inkstone.
52. What do we know about the Chengni inkstone?

The Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, is a special day in China. It usually falls in early April. This festival is a time to remember family members who was dead. They clean the gravesites墓), place fresh flowers, and offer food. It is a way to show respect and love.
This tradition is very old. There is a famous poem from the Tang Dynasty called "Qingming" by the poet Du Mu. The poem begins: "A drizzling rain falls like tears on the Mourning Day; The mourner's heart is breaking on his way." These lines describe the sad and respectful mood of the day. The poem helps us understand the feeling of Qingming for over a thousand years.
But Qingming is not only about looking back. It is also about welcoming spring. After the tomb-sweeping, families often go for an outing. The weather is usually warm and nice. People fly kites, have picnics, and enjoy the green grass and blooming flowers. In the past, flying a kite meant sending away bad luck and illness. Now, it is a fun outdoor activity.
The festival’s history might connect to an even older tradition called the "Hanshi" (Cold Food) Festival. Long ago, people would not light fires and only eat cold food for a few days to remember a man named Jie Zitui. Over time, the customs of remembering the loyal (Hanshi) and honoring ancestors(祖先) (Qingming) mixed together.
So, Qingming is a day with two faces. One face is sad, looking back to remember the past and our ancestors. The other face is happy, looking around to enjoy the beauty and hope of spring. It connects history, family, and the cycle of nature all in one day.
56. According to the passage, when does the Qingming Festival usually happen?
A. In early March. B. In early April.
C. In late April. D. In early May.
57. What is the MAIN activity people do on Qingming to show respect for ancestors?
A. They write and read poems. B. They fly kites high in the sky.
C. They visit and clean the graves of their ancestors. D. They have a big family picnic.
58. Why does the passage mention the poem by Du Mu?
A. To tell a funny story about spring.
B. To give an example of the festival's sad and respectful mood from long ago.
C. To explain how to write a good poem.
D. To list all the activities people do on Qingming.
59. According to the passage, which of the following is a modern spring activity people enjoy on Qingming?
A. Going outdoors for a picnic with family. B.Not lighting fires at home.
C. Sending messages with kites to avoid bad luck. D. Eating only cold food for three days.
60. How is the passage organized?
A. It lists the dates of Qingming Festival in different years.
B. It first explains the traditional, respectful purpose of Qingming, and then describes its happier, springtime activities and history.
C. It compares Qingming Festival with Western holidays like Halloween.
D. It only tells the historical story of Jie Zitui and the Hanshi Festival.

The Town
Snow Owl is in the north of the country. It stands at the foot of Sky Mountain, and is surrounded (围绕) by a forest. People call it Dark Forest because the trees are so close together and the sunlight cannot come through. A wonderful river comes down from the mountain and passes through the town.

The People
People here are really friendly and care about each other.

D. It only tells the historical story of Jie Zitui and the Hanshi Festival.

A. They write and read poems. B. They fly kites high in the sky.
C. They visit and clean the graves of their ancestors. D. They have a big family picnic.

作者在第二段引用杜牧的诗句“清明时节雨纷纷,路上行人欲断魂”后,紧接着解释:“These lines describe the sad and respectful mood of the day. The poem helps us understand the feeling of Qingming for over a thousand years.”
答案对应第三段关于春季活动的描述:“After the tomb-sweeping, families often go for an outing... have picnics”。 故选A
【60题详解】文章结构题。本题考查对文章整体组织方式的理解。文章结构清晰:

【例文】
Dear Ben,
Thank you for writing to me. I’m glad to hear you’re coming to my hometown—Nanjing. It is a good place to visit.
First of all, the environment in Nanjing is wonderful. There are many green spaces, where you can enjoy fresh air and peaceful views. Also, historical sites make the city rich in culture while staying close to nature. Second, people in my neighborhood are very friendly and helpful. We often hold community events, and neighbors always support each other. We are like a big family.
When traveling in Nanjing, you can try local foods in Confucius Temple, walking along the ancient City Wall, or taking a night cruise on the Qinhuai River to see the beautiful lights.
I’m sure you’ll love Nanjing. Looking forward to your visit!
Best wishes,
Daniel
