“Don’t worry,” Sam replied. “We can work on it at my house after school. I can help you.”
Jason frowned (皱眉). “No, it’s fine. I’ll manage by myself.” He said quietly.

We all know that sleep is important, but do you truly understand how it affects our bodies and minds? A recent scientific study shows that not getting enough sleep can harm both our physical and mental health.
According to the research, people who regularly sleep less than seven hours each night are more likely to feel tired and stressed. Lack (缺少) of sleep can also make it harder to focus or remember things. In the long term, it may lead to serious health problems like heart disease and weakened immune function (免疫功能).
To understand this better, researchers divided volunteers into two groups. The first group slept eight hours per night, while the second group slept only five hours. After two weeks, the second group showed higher levels of stress and performed worse on memory tests and attention tests. They also had weaker immune systems, meaning they got sick more easily.
Interestingly, the study found that not only the amount (量) of sleep matters, but also the quality. Deep sleep helps our brains rest and recover, while light sleep does not have the same efficacy. This explains why sometimes we still feel tired even after spending enough time in bed.
The research team also provided useful suggestions for better sleep. They suggest that teenagers should get eight to ten hours of sleep per night. Staying away from smartphones before bedtime and keeping a regular sleep schedule (时间表) can help improve sleep quality.
These findings remind us that good sleep isn’t just about resting— it’s necessary for keeping both physical and mental health. Making sleep a priority (首要任务) can help us stay healthier, think more clearly, and feel better every day.

A. skills needed to achieve goals B. secrets of solving problems
C. reasons for doing something good D. good or helpful results or effect
13. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. How deep sleep helps the brain rest.
B. Why people still feel tired after enough sleep.
C. Sleep quality is as important as sleep amount.
D. The difference between deep sleep and light sleep.
14. Jacob,16 years old, has poor sleep quality. How could he solve the problem according to the text?
A. By building his immune system stronger.
B. By sleeping for more than 10 hours a day.
