Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答问题)
Jim’s grandpa had a beautiful garden. He knew everything about gardening. Every weekend, Jim got his hands dirty in the soil with Grandpa. Best of all, he loved seeing the daffodils (水仙花) come out in spring.
One Saturday, Jim was helping Grandpa in the garden. “Will we plant daffodils this year?” asked Jim.
“Yes, but give it a few more days,” said Grandpa, handing Jim a gardening fork. “We need to get the weeds (杂草) out first.”
“Why do you like planting daffodils?” asked Jim.
“For Grandma,” said Grandpa. “On the day we first met, I gave her a bunch of daffodils. Seeing the sweet smile on her face, I knew she loved them. So when we got married, I promised her to plant daffodils every year.”
“Wow! I can’t wait to plant daffodils,” said Jim.
A few days later, Grandpa got a terrible headache and was sent to hospital. He needed to have an operation.
The following Sunday, Jim sat in the garden, worried and lonely. Grandma came to him. “Jim, you can do some gardening if you like,” she said.
“________,” said Jim.
“He isn’t here but he surely has taught you something, hasn’t he?” said Grandma.
“I guess he has really taught me a lot,” said Jim.
Jim thought about how happy Grandpa would be when he came back and saw the daffodils. He put on his rubber boots and spent the whole day tidying, digging, planting and watering.
When spring came, all the daffodils opened and Grandpa returned home.
“You wonderful boy,” said Grandpa. “Grandma and I are proud of you.”
“I remember everything you’ve taught me,” said Jim. “Grandpa, you and Grandma are good teachers!”

In the cultural heart of Paris, along the streets of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, an elderly man’s cheerful voice often rings out: “France is getting better!” Ali Akbar, now 73, has been selling newspapers here for decades (十年). With copies of Le Monde under his arm, he walks through the Left Bank, creating his own catchy headlines to attract customers. “I do it to create a good mood,” he says. “I want people to live happily.”
Akbar came to France in 1973 and began working as a newspaper hawker. Unlike others who stayed in busy spots, he chose to walk around the sixth arrondissement (区), a university area near the River Seine (塞纳河). He remembers learning French by chatting with students. Over time, he became a beloved part of the neighborhood. “Even regular tourists ask where he is if they don’t see him,” says Amina Qissi, a local waitress.
Though Paris once had about 40 hawkers, Akbar stood out with his energy and optimism. His hard work was finally recognized by the country, and he even received a high national honor from the French government. Akbar believes this honor ________.
Today, Akbar still works from afternoon until evening, selling about 30 papers daily. In a digital age, his presence reminds people of a simpler joy. As a young cafe visitor, Amel Ghali, says: “He is inspiring (鼓舞人心的). Unfortunately, our children might not experience the simple pleasure of reading a newspaper with a coffee.”
1.What job does Ali Akbar do in Paris?
2.Does Ali Akbar use the newspaper’s original headlines to sell?
3.According to Ali Akbar, what was his main purpose for creating his own headlines?
4.How did Ali Akbar learn French after arriving in France?
5.Fill in the blanks in less than 8 words in Paragraph 3.
6.Like Ali Akbar who creates a “good mood”, what is one way you can bring a little joy to others in your daily life?
Read the passage and answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题)
It was difficult not to see the 8-year-old boy run in and out of his house repeatedly. His repeated actions caused the curiosity of his neighbor, William Dunn.
“He said he didn’t have a father,” says Dunn, now aged 58. “And I realized that there might be something I could do to help him.”
That “something” was fishing, a hobby that Dunn’s father had once shared with him. He did it at once.
After fishing together several times, Dunn saw encouraging changes in the boy’s behavior.
That was 16 years ago. Since then, Dunn has taken groups of fatherless kids fishing almost every weekend, teaching them how to set up a fishing line and bring in a big catch.
“They’ve been through a lot, and their lives have been challenging,”-Dunn explains. “But when they’re fishing, all those pains disappear. On the boat, they laugh, smile, and make new friends. I knew I was onto something special.”
Jayden, now 23, has become a fisherman and thanks Dunn for helping him grow up. He proudly mentions catching a shark with Dunn’s help, “I hope he knows that I mean it when I say thank you.”
Another girl, 21-year-old Bella Smith, who is in a foster(抚养) program for young adults, notes that Dunn pays special attention to self-respect and spiritual strength. “When I’m fishing, I can forget about the past and enjoy something fun,” says Bella Smith. “Fishing has taught me that I can have a better life than what I had. Whenever I feel down, I know it’s time to go fishing.”
“There’s nothing like feeling the first pull on the line and seeing a kid’s face light up with a smile,”
Dunn adds. “I feel lucky to witness that every weekend.”
1.The children mentioned in the text didn’t have a father, did they?
2.After fishing together several times, what did Dunn see in the boy’s behaviour?
3.What did Dunn teach those children when he took them fishing almost every weekend?
4.Describe those children’s lives before they met Dunn with two adjectives.
5.What does Dunn give special importance to?
6.What do you think of Dunn? Give two reasons.

A small, white envelope stuck among the branches of our Christmas tree and it has been there for the past ten years.
It all began because my husband Justin hated Christmas—oh, not the true meaning of Christmas. Overspending was one thing, but compared to the difficult experience of choosing gifts—running around at the last minute to get a tie for Uncle Harry and a pair of gloves for Grandma…, spending money is nothing. I felt too tired to think of any special gifts.
Knowing Justin felt the same way, I decided one year not to buy the usual shirts, sweaters, ties and so on. I reached for something special just for Justin. The idea came in an unusual way.
Our son Kevin, who was 12 that year, was wrestling(摔跤) at the junior level at the school he attended; and shortly before Christmas, there was a match against a team sponsored (赞助) by an inner-city church. These youngsters, dressed in such worn-out shoes that shoe strings (鞋带) seemed to be the only thing holding them together, while our boys were in their blue and gold uniforms and new wrestling shoes.
As the match began, I was shocked to see that the other team were wrestling without wearing helmets (头盔) to protect their ears. Well, our boys won the game.
Justin, seated beside me, shook his head sadly, “I wish just one of them could have won,” he said. “They have a lot of potential (潜力), but losing like this could take the heart out of them.” Justin loved kids—all kids, and he knew them, having coached little league football and baseball. That’s when the idea for his present came. That afternoon, I went to a local sporting goods store and bought different kinds of wrestling helmets and shoes. I sent them to inner-city church without leaving my name.
On Christmas Eve, I placed the envelope on the tree, the note inside telling Justin what I had done and that was his gift from me. His smile was the brightest thing about Christmas that year and since then the envelope has become the tradition of our Christmas.
1.How long has the white envelope been in the writer’s home?
2.What’s the main reason for Justin to hate Christmas?
is the main reason.
3.Could the youngsters in the team sponsored (赞助) by an inner-city church buy a helmet?
4.How did Justin feel about the team’s failure?
5.Why did the writer send gifts to the inner-city church without leaving her name?
6.According to the last paragraph, what is their tradition at Christmas? And how do you like their tradition at Christmas?

Students in the USA don’t begin their spring break at the same time. It depends on where they live. While students from one town are on vacation, their neighbors in the next town may have classes as usual.
You may have heard of it from many hit USA TV shows and films. It’s usually in the middle of March, when characters on shows like Gossip Girl get a week off from classes, go to the beach and throw big parties. It’s spring break—or, “party time”!
Unlike our semester (学期) , which starts in late February or early March this year. American schools begin as early as January. So in late March and April, most American schools, ranging from kindergartens to colleges, give students one to two weeks off school.
College students often take planes to places like Florida or Cancun, Mexico. They relax on the beach, enjoy cold drinks and get a tan.
Younger kids take trips with their parents, visiting a new state or even a new country. Sometimes teachers lead overseas trips for groups of students. On a ten-day trip, for example, students may go on a tour through Spain, France, and Italy, which gives them a great chance to see different parts of the world.
Having a “staycation”, which means being a tourist in your own city, is another popular trend (趋势) . You can visit local art galleries (画廊) , museums or have a big meal in a nice restaurant.
For those who are not in the mood to go out, spring break is a good time to catch up with hit TV series or play video games.
There are also students who want a different kind of spring break experience. Instead of partying, they choose to do community service, help with disaster-hit areas or do other volunteering work.
No matter how they’ve spent the break, one thing is for sure—students return to school feeling refreshed and ready to finish the school year.
1.Students in the USA begin their spring break at the same time, don’t they?
2.How long does the spring break usually last?
3.Where do college students often go during the spring break?
4.According to the passage, if one doesn’t want to go out during the spring break, what can he do?
5.According to the passage, how do some students spend the spring break differently?
6.If you are given the spring break, how will you spend it? Why?
Every day when Mike and Sally play outside, they see a man walking. He walks with a white stick. He cannot see. He is blind. It always puzzles them. “How can he walk on a busy street?” asks Mike. “It must be very dangerous,” says Sally.
The boy and the girl watch as the man walks. He walks slowly. He walks to the traffic light and then stops. When the light turns green, he starts walking again. He does not hit anything as he walks. “It’s amazing. And it must be scary too,” says Sally. “He knows where to go and where to stop as if he could see.”
One day, the blind man was passing by, and he heard the children talking. He stopped in front of their house. “Hello kids,” he said, “I hear you talking about how I walk.”
“Yes, we always wonder how you know where to go and when to stop on such a busy street. It is safer to stay indoors.”
The man smiled, “I trained myself to listen very well. I listen with my ears for every sound when I am out of the house. I use my cane for me too. When my stick bumps into something, I know to stop and go around it.”
The man continued, “Yes, it is safer to stay indoors. But I love to walk. I love the hot sun. I love the smell of flowers. I love to hear the birds singing. Most of all, I love to get some exercise.”
Sally said, “Thank you. We have learned something today. We think you are a brave man. We can see. We can walk. We will get some exercise, too. You are a good example for us to follow.”
1.What do Mike and Sally see every day?
2.What is amazing to them when they watch the blind man walk?
3.Why did the blind man stop in front of their house?
4.How does the blind man walk safely on the busy street?

Cole loved helping in his mother’s garden since he was a child. But after he finished school, he worked as a salesman in a shopping center for thirty years. “Everything changed in 2016,” Cole said.
That year, Cole’s mum, a flower-lover, moved in with him and his wife. She was shocked by so much litter on the street. “Why are there so many rubbish bags and empty bottles on this street?” she asked. She pointed at the dry tree pits (坑) outside their house and said, “Let’s plant some roses from our old garden here!”
Mum and Cole began to work. They moved young rose plants into six tree pits. Guess what? The plants grew really well! To their surprise, there was no more litter around. “That was great! I realized that I could change something, rather than just sitting at home,” said Cole.
In the following year, Cole created different gardens in six tree pits along the street. People up and down the street stopped to ask, “Who planted these flowers? They’re so beautiful!” and strangers turned into friends. Kids offered to water the plants.
The next spring, the city used the strong grass killer on the whole street to kill wild grass. Days later, all the plants turned brown. Cole stood in front of the dead flowers, heartbroken. Then Aunt Mary from next door walked over with some seeds. “I have some flower seeds. Let’s start again!”
The news spread. Tom brought young rose plants. Lisa brought sunflower seeds. Even Mr. Smith, the serious banker, gave strawberry vines from his garden. Soon, fifteen tree pits were full of colourful plants. A group of neighbours helped look after them.
The experience led Cole to begin his “City Garden Project”. The project has turned over twenty parking lot corners into wildflower beds. Whenever he sees kids watching bees in the flower beds, he remembers his mum’s words: “No big heroes are needed to change the world.”
1.Why did Cole’s mum suggest planting roses?
2.Did the flowers Cole had planted die after the city used the grass killer?
3.What experience led Cole to start his “City Garden Project”?
4.What does “No big heroes are needed to change the world.” mean in the story?
5.How did Cole’s mum influence his “City Garden Project”? (2 points)
6.If you were Cole, what would be your ways to protect the plants from the city’s grass killer?
As good as Cinderella
“How did tryouts (选拔赛) go, Shayna?” Mom asked after school.
“Terrible,” I said. “Kristie got Cinderella’s part!”
“What part did you get?” Mom asked. “None,” I said. I ran to my room and started drawing in my sketchbook. Drawing always makes me feel better.
The next day, Kristie was excited. But when the last bell rang, her mood changed. “I’m nervous. Shayna,” she said. “Will you come to rehearsal (彩排)?” I wanted to say no. Then I realized I couldn’t leave yet because I still thought I’d be in the play.
“All right,” I said. “But only today.”
In the hall, Ms Carson handed out copies of the script (剧本) to the performers. I sat in the third row, wishing 1 were in my room drawing. Ms Carson pulled a cardboard castle onto the middle of the stage. It was brown with small windows and doors. Ms Carson turned on the music, and Kristie and the Prince started dancing. I had to say, Kristie was really good.
When the rehearsal was over, Kristie pointed to the cardboard castle and asked, “When will we get the real sets (布景)?”
“These are the real sets,” Ms Carson said. “We don’t have an art teacher this year. So that’s the best we could do.” Kristie and I walked outside.
“You were great,” I said. “Everyone will love the play.”
“Thanks,” Kristie said. “But did you see the sets?”
I thought for a moment. “Maybe there’s something we can do.” I spent that evening drawing. The next day, I stuck my sketchbook into my backpack and went to school. After class, I went to teachers’ office and told Ms Carson my ideas. To my great pleasure, Ms Carson liked it and so did other teachers.
Over the next week, a corner of the lunchroom was filled with cardboard and paint. And lots of kids were painting.
Finally, opening night arrived. When the curtain rose, everyone saw a magical land with rolling hills, a fancy carriage, and a beautiful castle.
Kristie was a wonderful Cinderella, and everyone clapped their hands when the play was over.
Then Ms Carson called me up to the stage. She said, “ 5 .”
Everyone cheered. For me! I did get a part in the play after all. And it was just as good as being Cinderella.

2.What did the cardboard castle look like at first?
3.How did Kristie feel about the sets?
4.What can you know from the underlined sentences?

Stand in front of a mirror and look at it. How much do you really know about the person in it?
It’s not an easy job to know ourselves. To help students do this important task, schools across China are providing more classes and activities on self-knowledge.
Liu Yue is a teacher from Chengdu Yucai Middle School. She has recently given her students a useful tool. “It’s called the Johari Window, developed by two U.S. psychologists (心理学家),” said Liu. “It has four areas about one’s self: An open area that everyone knows about, a hidden area that only you know, a blind spot that everyone knows except for you and an unknown area that nobody knows. Using this tool, students did a great job seeing themselves through a new lens.”
“I’m most curious about my blind spot,” said ninth-grader Yang Manfei. “So I did a survey with my friends.” The results showed that she easily gets anxious (焦虑紧张的) and impatient because of procrastination, the habit of delaying doing things until the last moment.” “It is a bad habit I’ve never realized,” Yang said.
“I find the unknown area most amazing,” said Sun Boyin, another student. “It means everyone has lots of potential (潜能).” When Sun entered middle school, he was not good at math. “But I set a goal and did lots of math exercises. Now I’m much better at the subject. The unknown part of my math ability is getting clearer,” he said.
When it came to the hidden area, most students kept silent. “I’m afraid to show my secrets deep down,” said Li Yixuan. “Then one classmate stood up and said his favourite cartoon is Tom and Jerry. Li thought to himself, “Am I brave enough to show my childish hobby? I want my classmates to see me as a grown person, not a silly child.” But then he realized that the classmate wasn’t silly at all. Instead, he has the courage to be himself. “Show yourself and make yourself better. That’s the best lesson I’ve learned,” Li added.
Dear friends, do you want to learn more about yourself using the Johari Window? Which part would you like to find out most now and why? Please share your idea and a reason here: _____________________.
1.It’s not easy to know ourselves, is it?
2.Where does Liu Yue work?
3.What parts does the Johari Window consist of?
4.Why does Yang Manfei get anxious and impatient easily?

This past winter, some students in Yichang, Hubei, found a deck of cards (一副牌) in their homework packets. Their teachers told them to learn how to play Guandan, or “throwing eggs.”
This news left me (and some of my friends) confused. We had never heard of Guandan before. What is it? Why were the students given a deck of cards, rather than a basket of eggs?
Guandan, in fact, has nothing to do with eggs. It is a traditional Chinese card game. In each game, two teams of two sit across from each other. Each player has 27 cards. The two teams take turns throwing out their cards in many different combinations (排列组合).The goal is to get rid of all your cards before the other team. Guandan was born in Jiangsu and is popular there. People play it before and after dinner. They see it as a good way to make and meet friends.
But is it a good idea to introduce Guandan to children? The Hubei school hopes the game will help to train its students’ brains. Guandan players must also work in pairs. Students can become better team players by learning the game.
Not everyone agrees. Guandan, after all, is a game. Once you fall in love with it, you may spend a lot of time playing it every day. As a result, you may forget about your studies. Besides, people usually sit while playing Guandan. Sports like basketball and badminton are much better activities for students. They can develop children’s sense of teamwork, too.
If you think Guandan (or its name) is interesting, you can learn more about it. It may help you have a more enjoyable afternoon than sitting in front of a computer. But remember, _________________________.

“You have saved my horse,” Queen Olivia told the young boy standing before her. “Now you shall have a reward.” Peter nervously ran his fingers through his brown hair. The frightened horse ran past him as he was working in the field that morning. He would have helped it whether it belonged to the queen or not. But he had to admit that getting a reward (奖励) was nice.
Two of the queen’s men appeared. One carried a mirror. Red jewels shone on top of the mirror’s silver frame. The other carried a wooden cage with a chicken inside it.
“Only one reward can be yours,” the queen said. “Choose wisely.” “That’s easy,” Peter said. “I’ll take the chicken.” Some of the queen’s men laughed. It was clear that they thought he had made a foolish choice.
“And why did you choose the chicken?” the queen asked. “Well, I don’t know much about jewels,” Peter answered. “But I do know about chickens. The chicken will provide eggs for my family for a long while.”
Queen Olivia smiled. “Then you did make a wise choice,” she said. “That mirror may look fancy. But the jewels you see are only colored glass, and the frame is painted silver. The chicken is much more valuable.” Peter took the chicken and bowed. “Thank you, your majesty.”
“You are a smart child,” the queen added. “I could use a smart boy to help take care of my horses. Would you like to take the job?” Peter smiled. “Thank you very much!” he said excitedly. A job at the castle paid well. Now his family would eat well for the rest of their lives—all because________!
1.What was Peter doing when a frightened horse ran past him?

Dario and his mother loved their new apartment. The living room was large enough for their piano. One night, the two of them sat side by side at the piano. They played jazz music to celebrate their new home. The loud music filled the room and made them feel very happy.
The next morning, however, their happiness disappeared. Someone had left a note under their door during the night. One of their neighbours had written to complain about the sound of the piano. Dario’s mother asked the building superintendent (管理员) if he knew anything about it. But he said that they were all nice people and he couldn’t imagine any of them had done that. Later that morning, Dario suggested that they write a letter to their neighbours and apologize for their playing.
“Maybe we could go and visit everyone in person,” his mother said.
“How about inviting them to come here for a party instead?” Dario asked.
They both loved the idea. Over the next few days. They sent out invitations and prepared desserts for their guests. They decorated the apartment with streamers (彩带) and party lights.
In the end, the day of the party arrived. Some guests brought presents and flowers, and others brought desserts to share. One woman, Mrs Gilbert, gave Dario’s mother a book of piano music by Chopin.
“I heard you playing the other night,” she said. “The sounds woke me out of bed. I was afraid that you might play like this every night. So I wrote a short note. I hope you don’t think I disliked the playing.”
Dario’s mother smiled at Mrs Gilbert. “I think maybe we should apologize to you.” She said. “I didn’t realize how late it was when we were playing. Maybe we should play some quieter music at night.”
“I like what you play! Just try not to be so loud at night,” Mrs Gilbert said. She pointed to the book she had given them. “These songs are not such loud music.”
“These songs are beautiful music.” Dario’s mother said. “We will be happy to play them in the evening.”
“And we won’t play so loud or late!” Dario said. He was already looking forward to practicing the new music. More than that, however, he was happy to see the big smile on his mother’s face. It gave him a feeling of warmth and made him feel that they were home at last.

Shen Yuzhe, 13, Beijing
The “double reduction” policy (“双减”政策) really helps me. Our homework is clearly less than before. I can finish it at school with no need to take it home. Instead, I can review or preview school work when I’m home. Besides, teachers now teach at a much slower pace so that we have enough time to understand what we have learned. We don’t need to buy workbooks anymore and the exercises are mainly from the textbook. I’m also happy to find there are fewer exams.
Zhang Hangming, 13, Tianjin
The best thing about the “double reduction” is the increased time in after-school activities such as dancing, volleyball and drama. Since the homework becomes less, I have time to join a group called “leadership development”, learning all kinds of useful skills. Teachers are also giving us more chances to learn from real life. For example, we went to research earthworms (蚯蚓) in a field during a biology class. I believe this is a much better way to learn than just hitting the books.
Yu Zhiyue, 14, Jiangsu
With the “double reduction”, I have indeed (确实) got less homework to do. But since I can only take tutoring classes (辅导班) on weekdays now, Monday has become an especially long and tiring day for me. On Monday, I need to take an online class at home after I come back from school. But at least I can have happy weekends. I used to be busy taking classes on weekends. Now I have more free time to enjoy what I like to do!
1.All the students like the “double reduction” policy, don’t they?
2.According to all three students, what becomes less?
3.Why does Shen Yuzhe have enough time to understand what he has learned?
4.What can Zhang Hangming learn from the “leadership development” group?
5.What did Yu Zhiyue often do on weekends when there was no “double reduction” policy?
6.Do you like the “double reduction” policy? Why or why not?
I was an unlucky nurse who had to work on Christmas Day. It was always quiet in the emergency room on this day, so I was not expecting any patients. When I was complaining about working on such a beautiful festival, five people showed up at my desk—a pale woman and four small children.
“Are you all sick?” I asked suspiciously (怀疑地) because they seemed all right.
“Yes,” the woman answered weakly and lowered her head.
But when they started to present their problems, things got a little vague (模糊的). The children had earaches, but they couldn’t tell me which ear was in pain. The mother complained of a cough, but she seemed to be pretending.
Something was wrong. I didn’t say anything but explained that it might take a while before a doctor could meet them. “Take your time, please,” the mother responded. On a hunch (出于直觉), I checked their charts (记录)—no address. Suddenly, I knew, they were homeless and the hospital was warm.
I looked out at the family, huddling together under the Christmas tree, smiling and chatting with each other sweetly. Quietly, I went back to the nurses’ station and told them that we had a homeless family in the waiting room. It was just like God sending us a gift on Christmas Day. We took out our meals for our Christmas “patients”. We also put together oranges and apples as presents. We worked hard to exceed (超过) the needs of a family who only wanted a warm place on Christmas Day.
Later, when the family was leaving, the 4-year-old girl ran back and gave me a kiss. “Thanks for today,” she whispered in my ear.
1.The author was unhappy to work on Christmas Day, wasn’t she?
.
2.How did the author know that the family were homeless?
.
3.Why did the family pretend to be sick?
.
4.What did the nurses on duty do for the family?
.

Answer the questions. (根据短文内容回答下列问题。)

根据短文内容回答下列问题。

2.Did the flowers Cole had planted die after the city used the grass killer?
3.What experience led Cole to start his “City Garden Project”?
4.What does “No big heroes are needed to change the world.” mean in the story?

1.Shayna finally took the place of Kristie to act as Cinderella, didn’t she?
2.What did the cardboard castle look like at first?
3.How did Kristie feel about the sets?
4.What can you know from the underlined sentences?
5.What did Ms. Carson say? Complete the sentence.

4.划线句子“Over the next week, a corner of the lunchroom was filled with cardboard and paint. And lots of kids were painting.” Shayna’s idea was put into practice, and kids helped make new sets.
5.结合前文Shayna为话剧布景做出的巨大贡献,以及后文“Everyone cheered. For me!”可知,Carson老师应是在介绍Shayna的功劳,示例:这个惊艳的布景是Shayna的主意她是我们的幕后明星。故填This amazing set is Shayna’s idea and she’s our hidden star of the play.
6.标题“As good as Cinderella”指Shayna虽未饰演灰姑娘,但她通过设计布景为话剧做出了重要贡献,她的角色和价值与灰姑娘一样出色,故填Shayna’s role was as important and wonderful as Kristie’s role. Even though she wasn’t an actress, her contribution made her shine just like the main character.

根据文章内容回答下列问题。

3.根据原文彼得的回答“I don’t know much about jewels... But I do know about chickens. The chicken will provide eggs for my family for a long while.”可知,彼得不了解珠宝的价值,但清楚鸡的实用性 —— 能长期为家人提供鸡蛋,这是他做出选择的核心原因。故填Because the chicken would provide eggs for his family. /Because he knew chickens well.
4.根据原文女王的评价“Then you did make a wise choice”以及补充说明“That mirror may look fancy. But the jewels you see are only colored glass, and the frame is painted silver. The chicken is much more valuable.”可知,镜子只是华而不实的装饰品,而鸡更有实用价值,因此彼得的选择是明智的。故填A wise choice.
5.根据原文女王的话“I could use a smart boy to help take care of my horses. Would you like to take the job?”以及后文“A job at the castle paid well”可知,女王不仅给了彼得奖励,还为他提供了一份在城堡照看马匹的高薪工作。故填A well-paid job./A job to take care of the horses.
6.开放性试题,符合逻辑的答案均可得分。根据前文可知,彼得因为选择了实用的鸡,展现出自己的明智,才得到女王的赏识和高薪工作,让家人从此衣食无忧。此处需要总结这个因果关系,故填He was smart enough to make the right choice.
1.Was the jazz music Dario and his mother played loud one night?
