主题 01 人与自我 —— 健康与心理
Passage 1
(24-25学年高一下·四川省·期中)
Imagine you are attending a friend’s party, and you spill a glass of red wine on their white couch. You are so embarrassed that every time you see this friend, you’ll think of the incident. Research has shown that your reaction to this embarrassing experience will depend on your sleep. If you’re well rested, your brain will be able to produce more positive memory. Otherwise, negative thoughts will continue to bother you for some time.
Previous research has proved that the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (rDLPFC), a part of the brain, is responsible for controlling such memory. Now a new study provides insight into what’s actually going on in this part of the brain when negative thoughts come up. Professor Scott Cairney and his colleagues guessed that lack of sleep will weaken the rDLPFC’s ability to perform the function.
To test this, the researchers recruited (招募) 85 students. First, the team trained them to link images of people’s faces with specific scenes, some of which were negative, such as a car crash. Next, the researchers divided these students into two groups. One group was made to stay up all night while the other was allowed to sleep in beds in the lab. In the morning, all of them were tested again. The results proved their guess. Compared with those who had slept, the group who had stayed up all night had greatly influenced rDLPFC’s activity when they were supposed to shut down negative thoughts. Besides, the researchers also found that the more time they spent in deep sleep, the better role their rDLPFC played.
“The new study suggests that deep sleep seems to play a key role in keeping memory control. Interventions (干预) that improve deep sleep could become part of the treatment for disorders that are characterized by negative memories,” says Maria Wimber, a scientist at the University of Glasgow. This type of response might also be attempted for a possible measure to ensure that negative memories and flashbacks never come up at all.
1.What is the function of rDLPFC according to the text?
A.Making various reactions. B.Preventing negative thoughts.
C.Producing lasting memory. D.Controlling human’s emotions.
2.How was the performance of the students staying up in the test?
A.They preferred to sleep in beds in the lab.
B.They attempted to shut down negative thoughts.
C.They tended to link the images to negative scenes.
D.They were likely to make a comparison among the images.
3.What is Maria Wimber’s attitude towards the new findings?

Passage 2
(24-25学年高一下·四川省宜宾市三江新区·期中)
It may seem hard to believe, but snacking several times a day can boost your health and fitness — exercise snacking, that is. “Exercise snacks” are short bursts of activity — 30 seconds to five or 10 minutes max — that include almost any type of movement. Think climbing stairs, walking, cycling, or dancing. Today, numerous studies prove the value of these mini workouts.
Performing 15-to 30-second exercise snacks three times daily was shown to improve the cardiorespiratory (心肺) fitness levels and exercise performance in inactive adults, according to a small January 2022 study published in the journal Exercise and Sport Sciences Reviews.
Adults who reported they didn’t work out saw a 17% to 18% reduction in cancer cases after they began doing just 3.4 to 3.6 minutes of vigorous physical activity daily, a July 2023 study of 22,398 people found. Their daily physical activity was done in bursts lasting less than one or two minutes. Hitting 4.5 minutes (in total) of vigorous physical activity each day was linked to a 31% to 32% lower risk of cancer, according to the study published in JAMA Oncology.
The benefits of movement extend to brain health, too. Doing even a small amount of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day, reduces your risk of dementia (痴呆), according to a March study in JAMDA: The Journal of the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association.
Exercise snacks are a favorite tool used by Dr. Supatra Tovar, owner of Dr. Supatra Tovar& Associates. “I’m a big proponent of behavior change that starts tiny,” Tovar said. “So I like to create behaviors with my clients that are easy, accessible and doable every to most every day of the week.”
“Your body is kind of lazy,” said Michael Betts, “a personal trainer and director at Train Fitness who’s based in London. Doing these little exercise snacks reminds your body that it does need to work to maintain and improve its overall function.”
1.What can be called an exercise snack according to the text?
A.Singing songs with your classmates.
B.Turning off the lights before leaving school.
C.Jogging continuously for 20 minutes in PE class.
D.Rushing from your classroom to the dining hall for lunch.
2.What is a benefit that exercise snacks bring according to the text?
A.Lowering cancer risk. B.Enhancing muscle strength.
C.Being kept away from dementia disease. D.Improving the heart rate of inactive adults.
3.What does the underlined word “proponent” in paragraph 5 refer to?
A.Researcher. B.Critic. C.Pioneer. D.Supporter.

Passage 3
(24-25学年高一下·四川省遂宁中学校·期中)
Urban green spaces, such as parks, gardens, and tree-lined streets, have long been recognized for their aesthetic (审美的) and environmental benefits. However, recent research highlights their significant impact on mental health, particularly in densely (密集地) populated cities. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Cambridge analyzed data from over 10,000 urban residents across 15 cities worldwide, revealing a strong correlation between access to green spaces and improved mental well-being.
The study found that individuals living within 500 meters of a green space reported lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression compared to those without such access. Researchers attribute (归因于) this to several factors. First, green spaces provide opportunities for physical activity, such as walking, jogging, or cycling, which are known to reduce stress hormones and boost mood. Second, exposure to nature has a calming effect on the brain, reducing mental fatigue (精神疲劳) and improving concentration. Third, green spaces foster social interactions, creating a sense of community and belonging that can alleviate feelings of loneliness.
Interestingly, the study also revealed that the quality of green spaces matters more than their size. Well-maintained parks with diverse vegetation, seating areas, and recreational facilities had a greater positive impact than larger but poorly maintained areas. This suggests that urban planners should prioritize the design and upkeep of green spaces to maximize their mental health benefits.
Despite these findings, the study also identified challenges. In many cities, green spaces are unevenly distributed, with wealthier neighborhoods having better access than low-income areas. This inequality highlights the need for policies that ensure equitable (公平合理的) access to green spaces for all residents.
The researchers recommend several strategies to address these issues. These include increasing investment in urban green infrastructure, integrating green spaces into urban planning, and promoting community involvement in maintaining local parks. By prioritizing green spaces, cities can not only enhance mental health but also address broader environmental challenges, such as air pollution and climate change.
1.What did the study find about individuals living near green spaces?
A.They had higher levels of stress. B.They preferred indoor activities.
C.They were less physically active. D.They enhanced mental health.
2.What does the underlined word “alleviate” mean in paragraph 2?
A.Reduce. B.Increase. C.Ignore. D.Create.
3.How is the text mainly developed?
A.By narrating personal experiences. B.By criticizing urban planning policies.
C.By comparing different types of green spaces. D.By presenting research findings and their effects.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A.Designing Effective Urban Green Spaces
B.The Multifaceted Benefits of Urban Green Spaces
C.Green Spaces: A Key to Enhancing Mental Health
D.Strategies for Equitable Access to Urban Nature

Passage 4
(24-25学年高一下·四川省凉山州西昌市·期中)
Do you ever get that feeling that there aren’t enough hours in the day? That time is somehow racing away from you, and it is impossible to fit everything in. But then, you step outside into the countryside and suddenly everything seems slower, more relaxed, like time has somehow changed. It’s not just you—recent research showed nature can regulate our sense of time.
For many of us, the combined demands of work, home and family mean that we are always feeling like we don’t have enough time. Time poverty has also been worsened by digital technologies. Permanent (永久的) connectivity extends working hours and can make it difficult to switch off from the demands of friends and family.
The research also suggests that the solution to our lack of time may lie in the natural world. Psychologist Richardo Correia, at the University of Turku in Finland, found that being in nature may change how we experience time and, perhaps, even give us the sense of time abundance.
Correia examined research which compared people’s experiences of time when they performed different types of tasks in urban and natural environments. These studies consistently showed that people report a sense of expanded time when they were in nature compared to when they were in an urban environment.
For example, people are more likely to see a walk in the countryside as longer than a walk of the same length in the city. Similarly, people report regarding time as passing more slowly while performing tasks in natural green environments than in urban environments. Nature seems to slow and expand our sense of time.
It’s not just our sense of time in the moment which appears to be altered by the natural world, it’s also our sense of the past and future. Previous research shows that spending time in nature helps to shift our focus from the immediate moment towards our future needs. So rather than focusing on the stress of the demands on our time, nature helps us to see the bigger picture.
This can help us to prioritise (优先处理) our actions so that we meet our long-term goals rather than living in a continual state of “just about keeping our head above water”.
1.What’s the finding of recent research?
A.People usually feel they lack time. B.Urban life helps people forget time.
C.Time races faster in the countryside. D.Nature can adjust our impression of time.
2.Which of the following may contribute to time poverty according to the article?
A.The rise of AI tools. B.Increased time spent on outdoor activities.
C.Increased exposure to natural environments. D.Continuous connectivity from digital technologies.
3.What can be a good solution to the feeling of time poverty?
A.Staying longer in natural environments.
B.Increasing working hours to complete tasks faster.
C.Using digital tools to schedule tasks more efficiently.
D.Focusing more on immediate rewards than long-term goals.
4.What’s the author’s attitude towards findings of the researches?
A.Neutral. B.Critical. C.Favorable D.Doubtful.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高一下·四川省成都市金牛区成都七中万达集团学校联考·期中)
There are more bicycles than residents in the Netherlands, and in cities like Amsterdam up to 70% of all journeys are made by bike. The BBC’s reporter, Anna Holligan, examines what made everyone get back on the bike.
Before World War Ⅱ, journeys in the Netherlands were mainly made by bike, but in the 1950s and 1960s, as car ownership increased quickly, this changed.
The jump in car number caused a huge rise in the number of deaths on the roads. In 1971 more than 3,000 people were killed by motor vehicles, and 450 of them were children. In response a social movement demanding safer cycling conditions for children was formed. Called Stop de Kindermoord, it took its name from the headline of an article written by journalist Vic Langenhoff whose own child had been killed in a road accident.
The Dutch love of the motor vehicle was also shaken by the Middle East oil crisis of 1973, when oilproducing countries stopped export to the US and Western Europe.
These twin pressures helped to persuade the Dutch government to invest in improving cycling facilities and the Dutch urban planners started to change from the roadbuilding policies designed mainly for cars.
To make cycling safer and more inviting, the Dutch have built a vast network of cycle paths. These are clearly marked, have smooth surfaces, separate signs and lights for those on two wheels, and are wide enough to allow cycling side by side and overtaking.
Even before they can walk, Dutch children live in a world of cycling. As babies they travel in special seats on bikes. As the children grow up, they ride their own bikes. And, as the Dutch are not allowed to drive until 18, cycling offers teenagers an alternative form of freedom.
The state also plays a part in teaching, with cycling lessons a required part in Dutch schools. All schools have places to park bikes and at some schools 90% of pupils cycle to class.
1.What does Anna Holligan intend to find out?
A.Why cycling is popular in the Netherlands.
B.How journeys are made in the Netherlands.
C.What’s the main means of transport in the Netherlands.
D.What makes the children like cycling in the Netherlands.
2.Stop de Kindermoord is aimed at ________.
A.advising people to travel by bike
B.calling on more children to cycle
C.improving cycling conditions for children
D.asking the government to invest more in cycling
3.What resulted in the Dutch government’s changing roadbuilding policies?
A.More cars and road accidents.
B.World War Ⅱ and higher oil prices.
C.Road accidents and oil shortage.
D.A social movement and oil crisis.
4.What do we learn about the Dutch children?
A.They must get a license to ride a bike.
B.They are not allowed to ride a bike until 18.
C.They must have cycling lessons at school.
D.They don’t use bikes when they are very young.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高一下·四川省德阳市博雅明德高级中学·期中)
“An increase of just 2 ℃ in global temperatures could make the world much drier and more desert-like,” new research has warned.
According to it, more than a quarter of the world’s land surface would become drier and wildfires could be widespread. The most affected areas are parts of South East Asia, Southern Europe, Southern Africa, Central America and Southern Australia. These areas are home to more than 20 percent of the world’s population — that’s over 1.5 billion people. However, scientists found that limiting global warming to 1.5 ℃ would greatly reduce the percentage of the Earth’s surface affected.
“Aridification (干旱化) would emerge over 20 to 30 percent of the world’s land surface by the time the global temperature change reaches 2 ℃,” said Dr. Manoj Joshi from the University of East Anglia’s school of Environmental Sciences and one of the study’s co-author. The study looked at the present rate of global temperature increase and compared it to data from before the industrial revolution (工业革命). The world has already warmed by 1℃ since then.
The Paris Agreement, which was first signed in 2015, is an international agreement to control climate change. It hopes to hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 ℃ and to take efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 ℃. In June, President Trump, however, announced his intention for the US, the second largest producer of greenhouse gases in the world, to withdraw from the agreement.
Drought is one of the biggest concerns in some parts of the world, where rainfall is rare and water is not enough. Some parks of Kenya, for example, can go an entire year without a drop of rain.
1.What will happen if the global temperature increases by 1.5 ℃?
A.Many areas of the world will become much drier.
B.The percentage of the Earth’s affected surface will be lower.
C.The greenhouse effect will be far worse.
D.Many people will leave their home for safer places.
2.Which country is most likely to be affected by aridification?
A.China B.Russia
C.Canada D.Philippine
3.What is Dr. Manoj’s attitude towards the global temperature change?
A.Doubtful B.Supportive
C.Concerned D.Unclear
4.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.To call on every country to control greenhouse gases.
B.To encourage every country to protect the earth.
C.To introduce the possible effect of climate change.
D.To raise some suggestions on preventing climate change.
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.C 4.C

Passage 3
(24-25学年高一下·四川省成都外国语学校·期中)
Shen Wei, the character designer behind China’s highest-earning animated (动画的)film Ne Zha, recently spoke about his challenging journey in designing characters for Ne Zha 2, following the great success of the original film in 2019.
Ne Zha 2 joined the very lively Spring Festival film season list and was first shown on Jan. 29. Building on the remarkable success of its predecessor, this five-year project continues to draw inspiration from the playful but adorable character from the Ming dynasty novel The Investiture of the Gods. It also introduces a “dimensional upgrade” that includes new characters, thrilling battle scenes, more than 1,900 visual effect shots, and enhanced details for IMAX.
When discussing the challenges of character design amid high audience expectations after a five-year wait, Shen emphasized the importance of two concepts: continuity and innovation. “I believe finding both keeping the old and adding new things are significant,” Shen said. “The audience has already accepted elements of the original, so it’s impossible to completely change the established framework. Our approach is to keep the main ideas of the first film into the sequel (续集) while innovating and improving on existing techniques.”
Ne Zha 2 includes a substantial increase in new characters, tripling the number from the first film. A promotional video reveals that nearly every character has received unique battle designs instead of reusing previous designs. Shen noted that this approach demanded considerable effort and time. His goal was to immerse the audience in a story that feels authentic and engaging, ensuring that each character is fully developed and relatable.
One new character that impressed Shen is Ao Shun, a legendary dragon king. His complex armor, made entirely of blades, along with his unique fighting style, presented significant development challenges. Shen worked closely with Yang Yu, the director of the Ne Zha film series, known by his nickname Jiaozi, to explore various versions of the character’s costume and performance style.
Looking ahead, Shen expressed a strong interest in exploring projects that involve alien and future-like creatures during the revival of Chinese animation. “Such themes,” he said, “allow me to explore new ideas and awaken my imagination.” He noted that character design is a creatively rich and rewarding process.
1.What does the term “dimensional upgrade” in paragraph 2 most likely refer to?
A.A shift from 2D to 3D animation.
B.Expansions in story, visual effects, and technology.
C.Reducing the film’s runtime for better pacing.
D.Focusing only on character backstories.
2.Why does Shen believe it is impossible to completely change the established framework?
A.Because the audience has developed an emotional connection to the original elements.
B.Because the original film’s framework is too inflexible to allow for changes.
C.Because the filmmakers lack the creativity to introduce new ideas.
D.Because the sequel must strictly stick to the original storyline.
3.How does Shen’s approach to character design contribute to the overall experience of Ne Zha 2?
A.By making the film more technically advanced.
B.By balancing tradition with creative improvements.
C.By completely changing the original character designs.
D.By stressing the importance of audience preferences.
4.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To show the box office success of Ne Zha 2.
B.To advertise the global screening of Ne Zha 2.
C.To analyze Shen Wei’s design ideas and challenges in Ne Zha 2.
D.To compare the visual effects of Ne Zha and Ne Zha 2.

Passage 4
(24-25学年高一下·四川省遂宁高级实验学校·期中)
Researchers have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) system to help historians renovate the writings and identify when and where they were written.
Many ancient populations used writings, also known as inscriptions (碑文), to document different parts of their lives. The inscriptions have been found on materials such as rock, ceramic (陶瓷) and metal. The writings often contained valuable information about how ancient people lived and how they structured their societies. But in many cases, the objects containing such inscriptions have been damaged over the centuries. This left major parts of the inscriptions missing and difficult to identify and understand. In addition, many of the inscribed objects were moved from areas where they were first created. This makes it difficult for scientists to discover when and where the writings were made.
The new AI-based method serves as a technological tool to help researchers repair missing inscriptions and estimate (估算) the true origins of the records. The researchers, led by Alphabet's AI company DeepMind, call their tool Ithaca. The team said it trained Ithaca on the largest collection of data containing Greek inscriptions. Feeding this data into the system is designed to help the tool use past writings to predict missing letters and words in damaged inscriptions. The researchers reported that in experiments with damaged writings, Ithaca was able to correctly predict missing inscription elements 62 percent of the time. In addition, the tool was 71 percent correct in identifying where the inscriptions first came from. And, the system was able to effectively date writings to within 30 years.
When historians work on their own, the success rate for restoring damaged inscriptions is about 25 percent. But when humans teamed up with Ithaca to assist in their work, the success rate jumped to 72 percent. The team is currently working on other versions of Ithaca trained on other ancient languages. DeepMind has launched (发行) a free, interactive tool based on the system for use by researchers, educators, museum workers and the public.

C.The objects' being damaged. D.The extinction of language.
3.What conclusion can we draw from the last paragraph?
A.Ithaca currently recognizes only English.
B.Ithaca has great market development potential.
C.Ithaca can completely replace historians in the future.
D.Ithaca cannot bring any profit to its development company.
4.What is the best title for the text?

Passage 1
(24-25学年高一下·四川省成都市蓉城联盟·期中)
As people’s understanding of climate change increases, so does their wish to act. However, the size of the problems — such as wildfires, melting ice, and long periods without rain — can feel too great to solve. It’s difficult to see how our daily habits connect to protecting animals like polar bears, let alone how we can make a difference.
A key way to measure the effects of our actions is through a carbon footprint. Although this idea is becoming more popular (searching “How to reduce my carbon footprint? ” gives 27 million results), many still don't fully grasp it. A carbon footprint refers to the total harm caused by producing goods or activities. For people in wealthy nations, most emissions come from four main areas: home energy use, transportation, food choices, and other purchases (购买) like clothes or electronics.
Each choice adds to your footprint. For instance, eating beef increases your food footprint more than being vegetarian. However, someone who drives a fuel-heavy car daily might have a larger footprint than a meat-eater who walks.
Calculating this is complex. Take flights: it’s simple to divide fuel use by passengers, but first-class seats take up more space, increasing emissions. Other factors like cargo weight or flight altitude also matter. Other calculations are even harder. Making a car involves mining materials, powering factories, transporting parts, and using machinery — all linked to the car’s raw materials.
Because of this complexity, Berners-Lee calls carbon footprints “impossible to calculate exactly”, yet he argues that rough estimates are enough for most people to take action. To lower your footprint, focus on what matters most for your lifestyle. For example, switching to an electric car is better for the environment in Vermont (where they use clean energy from water) than in West Virginia (where coal is the main energy source). As Berners-Lee explains, “Flying might be a small part of someone’s carbon footprint, but for others, it’s the biggest part. Prioritize the largest impact areas. ”
1.What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A.People paid little attention to climate change.
B.Polar bears are affected by wildfires and melting ice.
C.There is a gap between problems and individual actions.
D.Different countries’ environmental problems are different.
2.According to the text, what does a “carbon footprint” measure?
A.The total cost of producing goods like cars or clothes.
B.The carbon emissions coming from wealthy countries.
C.The things people use, eat and purchase in their everyday life.
D.The amount of greenhouse gases released by human activities.
3.What makes calculating a car’s carbon footprint particularly difficult?
A.The color and size of the car. B.The need to track raw materials.
C.The preference for electric cars. D.The cost of gas in different countries.
4.What advice does Beriers-Lee give about reducing personal carbon footprints?
A.Reduce the largest sources of emissions first. B.Switch to using an electric car in West Virginia.
C.Move to countries powered by renewable energy. D.Focus on small daily changes like turning off lights.
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.B 4.A

Passage 3
(24-25学年高一下·四川省资中县第二中学·期中)
Elephants’ important role in maintaining biodiversity and healthy ecosystems has earned them various names including ecosystem engineers and forest gardeners. However, African forest elephants — a species living in the rainforests of central Africa — are increasingly recognized by another name: “climate heroes”.
African forest elephants help lessen climate change by increasing carbon storage in their forest habitats, meaning they help remove heat-trapping CO2 from the atmosphere. They do this by influencing the forest structure, including by increasing the diversity and abundance of plant species. It’s estimated that one forest elephant can increase the net carbon capture (捕获) capacity of the forest by almost 250 acres. This is equal to removing from the atmosphere a year’s worth of emissions (排放量) from 2,047 cars.
“As strange as it seems, all that eating and destruction help the forest pull more carbon out of the air,” says Alison Pearce Stevens in the book Animal Climate Heroes! . Elephants eat more than 400 pounds of food a day, so they spend a lot of time searching for food. As they walk through the forest, they do a lot of damage to the surrounding smaller trees, leading to the survival of trees that have the ability to absorb and store more CO2.
In addition, their thirst for fruits also helps to promote forest growth. This is because elephants disperse fruit seeds. In other words, the seeds pass through the elephant bodies until they drop back to the forest floor.
But African forest elephants are seriously endangered and continue to face threats. These mainly come from hunting for the illegal international trade in elephant ivory (象牙), but also from habitat loss and fewer food sources. The number of forest elephants fell by more than 86% over a period of 31 years, and their habitats are thought to have reduced by 75%. Protecting forest elephants and the forests they depend on means we are safeguarding their ecological contributions that we all rely on.
1.How do African forest elephants help relieve climate change?
A.They increase the diversity of wildlife species.
B.They help to maintain the plants of the forest.
C.They take in heat-trapping CO2 from the atmosphere.
D.They promote the net carbon capture ability of the forest.
2.What does the underlined word “disperse” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Consume. B.Preserve. C.Spread. D.Gather.
3.What are the threats facing African forest elephants?
A.Illegal hunting and habitat loss.
B.The disturbed balance of the forest ecosystem.
C.Natural disasters resulting from climate change.
D.Competition for water sources with other animals.
4.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Preserving Forests: Elephants’ Contribution
B.New Role of African Forest Elephants: Climate Heroes
C.Ivory Trade Threatens African Forest Elephants
D.Forest Elephants Are Approaching the Edge of Extinction

Passage 4
(24-25学年高一下·四川省达州外国语学校·期中)
Parrots are prey animals, which means that other predators (捕食者) in the wild, such as hawks or snakes, are looking to make them into a meal. This one factor influences parrots’ behavior in your house more than any other.
Parrots are most easily hurt when feeding on the ground. Membership in a group plays an important function in ensuring their safety and improving their chances of survival from attacks by predators. The most common predators of parrots include hawks, snakes, cats, monkeys, and bats. Some predators make attacks only during the day while others hunt in the night.
As prey animals, parrots are constantly watching out for danger and they instinctively (本能地) react to risks. Their first choice is to take flight. However, if this is not possible, they will fight with their powerful beaks to defend themselves.
Because their biggest enemy is the hawk, parrots are especially reactive to quick movements from above and behind. For this reason, it is wise to avoid quick, sudden movements near your bird. This is a built-in reaction not subject to logic or reason. Simple and relatively harmless household objects can draw extreme fear responses from a bird. For example, a balloon may represent a hawk or a vacuum hose (吸尘器软管) may be the same as a snake in your bird’s mind.
As prey animals, parrots are often frightened by exposure to new household items or strangers. It is important to expose your bird to safe experiences and changes starting at a very young age to build flexibility and improve their adaptability. Variety in diet and toys, travel, and exposure to new people and places all help to make your bird more flexible and adaptable to change.
1.What is important for parrots to better survive from attacks in the wild?
A.Living in a group. B.Growing beautiful feathers.
C.Feeding on the ground. D.Avoiding coming out at night.
2.What is parrots’ first response to an immediate risk?
A.To attack back. B.To get away.
C.To protect the young. D.To play dead.
3.Why would a balloon frighten a parrot?
A.It may explode suddenly. B.It may be in a strange shape.
C.It may have a strong color. D.It may move around quickly.
4.What is the author’s purpose of writing the text?
A.To explain wild parrots’ behavior. B.To give advice on raising a parrot.
C.To call for action to protect animals. D.To introduce a study on bird ecology.
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.D 4.B

Passage 1
(24-25学年高一下·四川省遂宁中学校·期中)
Cheese and red wine are basic diets over the festive period, and if you love red wine and cheese, a new study will come as music to your ears. Researchers from Iowa State University have found that drinking red wine and eating cheese can help to reduce cognitive (认知的) decline.
In the study, the researchers analyzed data from 1,787 adults aged 46 to 77, and asked them to complete questionnaires about their food and alcohol consumption (摄取). The results showed that cheese was the most protective food against age-related cognitive problems, even into late life. Daily consumption of red wine was also shown to improve cognitive function, while weekly consumption of lamb was shown to improve long-term cognitive skills. However, over-consumption of salt was found to increase the risk of cognitive decline.
Dr. Auriel Willette, who led the study, said: “I was pleasantly surprised that our results suggest that appropriately (合适地) eating cheese and drinking red wine daily are not just good for helping us cope with some diseases, but perhaps also dealing with an increasingly complex world. Although we considered whether this was just due to what rich people eat and drink, clinical trials (临床试验) at random are needed to determine if making easy changes in our diet could help our brains in great ways.”
While the reason for the link remains unclear, the researchers believe that cheese and red wine may protect some people from the effects of Alzheimer’s (阿尔茨海默病).
Brandon Klinedinst, an author of the study, added: “Depending on the genetic factors you carry, some individuals seem to be more protected from the effects of Alzheimer’s, while others seem to beat greater risk. Perhaps the silver bullet we’re looking for is improving how we eat. Knowing what that involves contributes to a better understanding of Alzheimer’s and putting this disease in an opposite path.”
1.Which of the following increases the risk of cognitive problems?
A.Taking in too much salt. B.Eating cheese properly.
C.Drinking red wine daily. D.Consuming lamb weekly.
2.What can be inferred from paragraph 3?
A.Changes in our diet help our brains in significant ways.
B.The diets of wealthy people were not taken into consideration.
C.The study results need to be proved by more clinical trials.
D.Some diseases make our world increasingly complex.
3.What does Brandon Klinedinst suggest on fighting Alzheimer’s disease?
A.Developing advanced genetic treatments. B.Focusing on improving dietary habits.
C.Increasing clinical trials for new drugs. D.Studying the diets of wealthy populations.
4.What is the study mainly about?
A.Basic diets over the festive period. B.Possible reasons for cognitive decline.

Passage 2
【答案】1.D 2.D 3.A 4.C

Passage 3
(24-25学年高一下·四川省达州市万源市万源中学·期中)
In Denmark, bicycling is one of the primary forms of transportation. In sunshine, rain and snow, you will see cyclists on their way to work, to the grocery store, or to social events. The bike is a Dane’s best friend.
Danish cycling culture is as old as the bicycle itself. Bikes were first introduced to the country in the 1880s, and during the 1920s and 1930s, the bicycle became a widespread symbol of equality and freedom. People of all social classes began biking side by side — in the cities on their way to work and in the countryside on their days off.
The increased economy development of the late 1950s saw some Danes replacing bikes with motorcycles and automobiles. Just like their colleagues around the world, Danish urban planners believed the future belonged to cars, trucks, and ever-wider highways. In the early 1970s, however, the Mideast oil crisis terminated that development. “Car Free Sundays” were introduced in Copenhagen, and movements demanding Copenhagen to become car-free took place. Over time, concerns about air pollution, climate change, and the need for people to get enough exercise have helped bicycles make a big comeback. Denmark’s heavy taxes on petrol and automobiles are a factor, too.
Today, cycling is an inseparable part of Danish culture. Newcomers who do not know how to cycle are encouraged to learn as soon as they arrive. Danish children usually learn to bike before they begin school at the age of six — and often much earlier. In school, children learn about traffic rules, road safety, and the importance of wearing a helmet as well as good cycling habits. Another choice for families with children is the cargo bike — a sort of oversized tricycle with a large wooden box on the front. It’s estimated that a quarter of all Copenhagen families with two or more children own one of these cargo bikes for transporting kids, groceries, and other necessities. Danish cargo bikes have also won design awards and become a Danish export success.
Commuting by bike is the fastest, easiest and most environmentally friendly way to get around the cities of Denmark. And the numbers speak for themselves: Residents who cycle in Copenhagen request 1.1 million fewer sick days. Cyclists reduce CO2 emissions by 20,000 tonnes a year on average.
1.What led to the popularity of bicycles in Denmark during the 1920s and 1930s?
A.The convenience of the bike. B.The development of the economy.
C.The idea that the bike symbolizes. D.The construction of wide highways.
2.What does the underlined word “terminated” mean in the 3rd paragraph?
A.Improved. B.Permitted. C.Ended. D.restarted.
3.What do we know about cargo bikes from the 4th paragraph?
A.They are owned by about 25% families.
B.They are designed for practical use.
C.They are the national symbol of Denmark.
D.They are unpopular among local residents.
4.Why does the author mention the data in the last paragraph?
A.To prove the effectiveness of cycling.
B.To compare cycling with driving.
C.To show the popularity of cycling.
D.To conclude the financial benefits of cycling.
【答案】1.C 2.C 3.B 4.D
【导语】这是一篇说明文,文章主要讲的是在丹麦,骑自行车是主要的交通方式之一,自行车是丹麦人最好的朋友。
1.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Danish cycling culture is as old as the bicycle itself. Bikes were first introduced to the country in the 1880s, and during the 1920s and 1930s, the bicycle became a widespread symbol of equality and freedom.(丹麦的自行车文化就和自行车本身一样古老。自行车在19世纪80年代首次被引入美国,在20世纪20年代和30年代,自行车成为平等和自由的广泛象征。)”可知,自行车所代表的自由和平等的理念促成了20世纪20年代和30年代自行车在丹麦的流行。故选C项。
2.词句猜测题。根据文章第三段划线词之前“The increased economy development of the late 1950s saw some Danes replacing bikes with motorcycles and automobiles. Just like their colleagues around the world, Danish urban planners believed the future belonged to cars, trucks, and ever-wider highways. In the early 1970s, however, the Mideast oil crisis(20世纪50年代末的经济的快速发展,使得一些丹麦人用摩托车和汽车取代了自行车。就像他们在世界各地的同事一样,丹麦的城市规划者认为,未来属于汽车、卡车和越来越广阔的高速公路。然而,在20世纪70年代初,中东地区的石油危机)”以及划线词之后“that development. “Car Free Sundays” were introduced in Copenhagen, and protests demanding Copenhagen to become car-free took place. Over time, concerns about air pollution, climate change, and the need for people to get enough exercise have helped bicycles make a big comeback. Denmark’s heavy taxes on petrol and automobiles are a factor, too.(发展。
根据文章第四段“Another choice for families with children is the cargo bike — a sort of oversized tricycle with a large wooden box on the front. It’s estimated that a quarter of all Copenhagen families with two or more children own one of these cargo bikes for transporting kids, groceries, and other necessities. Danish cargo bikes have also won design awards and become a Danish export success.(有孩子的家庭的另一种选择是货运自行车——一种前面有一个大木箱的超大三轮车。据估计,在所有有两个或两个以上孩子的哥本哈根家庭中,有四分之一拥有其中一辆货运自行车,用于运送孩子、食品杂货和其他生活必需品。)”可知,丹麦的货运自行车既可以用来运送孩子,还可以运送食品杂货和其他生活必需品,所以它的设计是非常实用的。故选B项。
4.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Commuting by bike is the fastest, easiest and most environmentally friendly way to get around the cities of Denmark. And the numbers speak for themselves: Residents who cycle in Copenhagen request 1.1 million fewer sick days. Cyclists reduce CO2 emissions by 4,000 tonnes a year on average. (在丹麦的城市里,骑自行车上下班是最快、最简单、最环保的方式。数字不言自明:在哥本哈根骑自行车的居民要少请110万天病假。骑自行车平均每年减少2万吨二氧化碳排放。)”可知,文章最后一段主要讲的是在丹麦骑自行车的好处,而列举数字是为了总结一下骑自行车的经济效益。故选D项。
Passage 4
(24-25学年高一下·四川省成都市金牛区成都七中万达集团学校联考·期中)
The American newspaper has been around for about three hundred years. In 1721, the printer James Franklin, Benjamin’s older brother, started the New England Courant, and that was what we might recognize today as a real newspaper. He filled his paper with stories of adventure, articles on art, on famous people, and on all sorts of political subjects.
Three centuries after the appearance of Franklin’s Courant, few believe that newspapers in their present printed from will remain alive for long. Newspaper companies are losing advertisers(广告商),readers, market value, and in some cases, their sense of purpose at a speed that would not have been imaginable just several years ago. The chief editor(主编) of the Times said recently, “At places where they gather, editors ask one another, ‘How are you?’, as if they have just come out of the hospital or a lost law case.” An article about the newspaper appeared on the website of the Guandian, under the headline “NOT DEAD YET.”
Perhaps not, but the rise of the Internet, which has made the daily newspaper look slow and out of step with the world, has brought about a real sense of death. Some American newspapers have lost 42% of their market value in the past three years. The New York Times Company has seen its stock(股票) drop by 54% since the end of 2004, with much of the loss coming in the past year. A manager at Deutsche Bank suggested that stock-holders sell off their Times stock. The Washington Post Company has prevented the trouble only by changing part of its business to education; its testing and test-preparation service now brings in at least half the company’s income.
1.What can we learn about the New England Courant?
A.It is mainly about the stock market.
B.It marks the beginning of the American newspaper.
C.It remains a successful newspaper in America.
D.It carries articles by political leaders.
2.What can we infer about the newspaper editors?
A.They often accept readers’ suggestions.
B.They care a lot about each other’s health.
C.They stop doing business with advertisers.
D.They face great difficulties in their business.
3.Which of the following found a new way for its development?
A.The Washington Post.
B.The Guardian.
C.The New York Times.
D.New England Courant.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高一下·四川省达州外国语学校·期中)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work with zoo or aquarium animals? Kylene, an animal care specialist from Sea World San Diego, who cared for the African penguins at SeaWorld for many years.
Over the past several years, the South African penguins have been on the decrease in numbers. A hundred years ago, there were about 1 million African penguins, but since then their population has decreased to under 100 ,000. Scientists predict the population could fall as low as 50 ,000 over the next 20 years if we don't do anything.
Some scientists think the changing ocean temperatures have caused the penguins1 food supply to disappear. Humans have also disturbed the penguins ' wild habitat and collected their eggs. And humans have also been collecting guano (the waste passed from the sea birds' bodies) , which can be added to the soil to make plants grow more successfully. As a result, humans damage their natural nest-digging sites. Without the piles of guano the penguins used to build their nests, they've been forced to nest on open ground.
Some other scientists think the slight increase in air temperature on the islands has had an impact on the penguins' success rate of hatching their eggs. No matter what the reason is, South African penguin population is falling, and scientists need to find a way to stop the decline.
Working with other zoos in the country, Kylene did what she could to help protect the South African penguins. Through Kylene's efforts and the efforts of the people like her at many penguin conservation organizations in South Africa, these little penguins have a chance for a better tomorrow.
1.What has happened to the South African penguins over the past years?
A.The penguin population has greatly declined.
B.They've begun to lose the habitat completely.
C.They have done great harm to the natural environment.
D.They have been hunted by humans for money-making.
2.What does the third paragraph mainly about?
A.The importance of penguins' return. B.The causes of penguins' decrease.
C.The efforts of some scientists. D.the necessity of penguins' existence.
3.What is guano used for by humans?
A.The food supply. B.The building materials.
C.The good shelter. D.The farming fertilizer.
4.What is the author's attitude towards the future of the South African penguins?
A.Worried. B.Doubtful. C.Hopeful. D.Uncertain.
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.D 4.C

Passage 2
(24-25学年高一下·四川省德阳市博雅明德高级中学·期中)
In southeastern Brazil, local fishers walk into dark waters in search of mullet (鲻鱼). On their own, it would be tricky to find the silvery fish. But the humans get help from an unusual partner—wild bottle-nose dolphins.
With nets in hand, the fishers patiently wait as their cetacean (鲸类的) partners drive the fish toward the shore. A signal from the dolphins—usually a deep dive—indicates when they should cast their nets. This fishing partnership has passed down through the generations, lasting for more than a century.
While researchers knew humans profited from this pairing, they couldn’t confirm whether it benefited the dolphins. Now, in a new study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers suggest cetaceans that hunt with humans have more chances to live than those that don’t.
“Human-wildlife cooperation in general is an uncommon phenomenon (现象) at a global scale,” says Mauricio Cantor, a biologist at Oregon State University and leader of the study. “Usually humans gain the benefit, and nature pays the cost. But this interaction (互动) has been happening for over 150 years.”
Fishers were more successful when they worked with the dolphins. When dolphins were present, the fishers were 17 times more likely to catch prey (猎物) and netted nearly four times more mullet when they timed their casting with the cetaceans signals. Eighty-six percent of all 4,955 mullet caught during the study period came from their interactions at the same time—when the allies organized their actions perfectly with one another.
The study also revealed dolphins hunting with humans had a 13 percent increase in survival rate over other dolphins. These cooperative (合作的) dolphins are more likely to stay near the shore reducing their chance of being caught in illegal fishing equipment. Besides, the dolphins can take some fish directly from the fishers harvest.
1.What do the first two paragraphs talk about concerning Brazilian fishers?
A.They trick dolphins into fishing for them.
B.They have been training dolphins over a century.
C.They harvest more fish with dolphins’ help.
D.They throw the fishing nets when dolphins are on the top of water.
2.What does Mauricio Cantor’s research show?
A.Nature supports human beings at no cost.
B.Fishers benefiting from cooperation with cetaceans is common.
C.Human-wildlife interaction is a new global trend.
D.Dolphins working with man have higher survival rate.
3.What does the underlined word “allies” refer to in paragraph 5?
A.partners B.preys C.dolphins D.researchers
4.What’s the author’s main purpose in writing the text?
A.To call on the protection of sea creatures.
B.To support development in fishing research.
C.To show a unique human-dolphin relationship.
D.To encourage fishers to better draw on dolphins.
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.C
【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了人类和野生宽吻海豚合作捕鱼的故事,从而展示一种独特的人与海豚的关系。
1.细节理解题。根据第一段“In southeastern Brazil, local fishers walk into dark waters in search of mullet (鲻鱼). On their own, it would be tricky to find the silvery fish. But the humans get help from an unusual partner—wild bottle-nose dolphins. (在巴西东南部,当地渔民走进黑暗的水域寻找鲻鱼,独自一人要找到这种银色的鱼是很困难的。但人类得到了一个不寻常的伙伴的帮助——野生宽吻海豚。)”以及第二段中“A signal from the dolphins—usually a deep dive—indicates when they should cast their nets. This fishing partnership has passed down through the generations, lasting for more than a century. (海豚发出的信号——通常是深潜——表明它们应该在什么时候撒网。这种捕鱼伙伴关系世代相传,持续了一个多世纪。)”可知,前两段主要讲了巴西渔民在海豚的帮助下收获了更多的鱼。故选C项。
2.细节理解题。根据第三段“Now, in a new study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers suggest cetaceans that hunt with humans have more chances to live than those that don’t. (现在,在《美国国家科学院院刊》上的一项新研究中,研究人员表示,与人类一起捕猎的鲸类动物比那些不与人类一起捕猎的鲸类动物有更多的生存机会。)”以及第四段““Human-wildlife cooperation in general is an uncommon phenomenon (现象) at a global scale,” says Mauricio Cantor, a biologist at Oregon State University and leader of the study. (“在全球范围内,人类与野生动物的合作总体上是一种罕见的现象,”俄勒冈州立大学的生物学家、该研究的负责人毛里西奥·康托尔说。)”可知,毛里西奥·康托尔的研究表明和人类一起工作的海豚存活率更高。故选D项。
3.词句猜测题。根据第五段中“Fishers were more successful when they worked with the dolphins. (当渔民和海豚一起工作时,他们更成功。)”可知,渔民和海豚的合作是取得成功的原因。结合划线词所在句“Eighty-six percent of all 4,93 mullet caught during the study period came from their interactions at the same time — when the allies organized their actions perfectly with one another. (在研究期间捕获的493条鲻鱼中,86%来自于他们同时的互动——当allies们完美地组织他们的行动时。)”可推知,大多数的鱼都是渔民和海豚合作配合捕获的,所以,是“渔民和海豚”完美地组织了他们的行动,他们是“盟友,合作伙伴”,划线词allies与partners意思一致。故选A项。
4.推理判断题。通读全文,结合第一段“In southeastern Brazil, local fishers walk into dark waters in search of mullet (鲻鱼). On their own, it would be tricky to find the silvery fish. But the humans get help from an unusual partner — wild bottle-nose dolphins. (在巴西东南部,当地渔民走进黑暗的水域寻找鲻鱼,独自一人要找到这种银色的鱼是很困难的。但人类得到了一个不寻常的伙伴的帮助——野生宽吻海豚。)”和最后一段“The study also revealed dolphins hunting with humans had a 13 percent increase in survival rate over other dolphins. These cooperative dolphins are more likely to stay near the shore, reducing their chance of entanglement in illegal fishing equipment. Besides, the dolphins can take some fish directly from the fishers’ harvest. (研究还显示,与人类一起捕猎的海豚比其他海豚的存活率提高了13%。这些合作的海豚更有可能呆在海岸附近,减少了被非法捕鱼设备缠住的机会。此外,海豚可以直接从渔民的收获中获得一些鱼。)”可知,文章主要介绍了人类和野生宽吻海豚合作捕鱼的故事,所以作者写文章的主要目的是展示一种独特的人与海豚的关系。故选C项。

A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Negative. D.Worried.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A.The Negative Memory Caused by a Part of the Brain
B.The Bad Effect of Sleep on Human’s Negative Memory

4.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To compare different types of exercise. B.To promote short bursts of physical activity.
C.To show some studies about mini workouts. D.To stress the importance of daily exercise.
Passage 3

C.Feelings of pleasant music to people’s ears. D.Effects of certain diets on cognitive decline.
Passage 2

Passage 2
(24-25学年高一下·四川省成都外国语学校·期中)
The recent emergence of DeepSeek, a Chinese start-up, has broken the current message in Silicon Valley regarding the development of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models. DeepSeek’s open-source AI model, R1, has demonstrated capabilities comparable to those of leading models from major American tech firms, but it was developed at a significantly lower cost and with less powerful hardware. This shift challenges the long held belief that only the wealthiest companies could dominate (主导) the AI landscape by investing heavily in resources.
As tech giants struggle with this new situation, questions are being raised about their policies and spending habits. The traditional approach of outspending competitors on advanced chips and expansive data centers is now under investigation. Industry experts suggest that the focus may need to shift towards efficiency, with companies competing to create more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable AI solutions.
Responses from American tech leaders have been swift, with OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman acknowledging the impressive nature of DeepSeek’s R1 model and promising accelerated releases of new models. This competitive pressure is likely to lead to a reevaluation of data center investments and pricing policies, as companies aim to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving market.
Despite concerns about DeepSeek’s claims regarding its development costs, its success has motivated other AI labs to innovate and create more efficient models. The industry is expected to shift focus towards maximizing AI capabilities within existing computational limits rather than merely increasing hardware resources.
Some industry leaders view DeepSeek’s achievements as a confirmation of open-source AI, proving that open-source AI has its value. Furthermore, they advocate for greater cooperation and sharing of innovations among American tech companies. This perspective suggests that encouraging an open-source ecosystem could stimulate the overall competitiveness of the US tech industry.
Ultimately, while DeepSeek’s success may stimulate short-term adjustments in business models, it also highlights the potential for AI technology to popularize access and drive innovation across the globe.

4.How does the author seem to feel about the future of newspapers?
A.Satisfied.
B.Hopeful.
C.Worried.
D.Surprised.
