Passage 5
(24-25高二下·浙江·期中)The Dragon Boat Festival, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, is one of China’s oldest traditional holidays. With a history of over 2,000 years, it is best known for dragon boat races, sticky rice dumplings (zongzi), and the story of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet of the Warring States Period who drowned himself in protest against corruption.
From Legend to Custom
According to legend, villagers raced boats to save Qu Yuan and threw rice into the river to feed his spirit. Today, these actions have evolved into dragon boat competitions and the making of zongzi. “The festival is not just about food and races; it’s a way to honor loyalty and integrity,” says Li Wei, a cultural historian in Wuhan.
Modern Innovations
While traditions remain central, the festival has embraced modern twists. In Hangzhou, tech companies design AI-powered dragon boat simulators for urban youth. In Shanghai, vegan zongzi with quinoa (藜麦) and avocado (牛油果) fillings attract health-conscious millennials. Even the races have gone global: cities like London and Sydney now host annual dragon boat events.
Cultural Revival
In 2009, UNESCO added the Dragon Boat Festival to its Intangible Cultural Heritage list. This recognition has spurred efforts to protect related customs. Schools teach students to wrap zongzi, and apps offer virtual reality experiences of ancient Chu Kingdom rituals. “Young people used to see it as just a holiday, but now they ask about its roots,” adds Li Wei.
Balancing Past and Present
Despite modernization, challenges remain. Some worry that commercialized zongzi packaging or high-tech races may dilute cultural meaning. Yet for many, the festival’s spirit endures. As 17-year-old student Zhang Ming puts it: “When I row in a dragon boat, I feel connected to every generation that came before me.”
1.Why did villagers throw rice into the river during the festival’s origin story?
A.To feed the spirit of Qu Yuan.
B.To celebrate a good harvest.
C.To attract fish for fishing.
D.To practice ancient cooking methods.
2.What can be inferred about young people’s attitude toward the festival today?
A.They prefer high-tech games to traditional activities.
B.They are losing interest in its historical significance.
C.They actively explore both its traditions and modern forms.
D.They believe it should remain unchanged.
3.What does the underlined word “dilute” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.Strengthen. B.Simplify.
C.Weaken. D.Preserve.

2.推理判断题。根据Modern Innovations部分中的“While traditions remain central, the festival has embraced modern twists. In Hangzhou, tech companies design AI-powered dragon boat simulators for urban youth. In Shanghai, vegan zongzi with quinoa (藜麦) and avocado (牛油果) fillings attract health-conscious millennials.(虽然传统仍然是核心,但这个节日也融入了现代元素。
根据Balancing Past and Present部分中的“Some worry that commercialized zongzi packaging or high-tech races may dilute cultural meaning.

Passage 12
(24-25高二下·浙江衢州·期中)Finding the right college
When choosing schools, many students and parents look at their rankings. Rankings are lists that try to show which US universities are “best”. Famous magazines and websites create these lists every year.
However, a university with a high ranking isn’t necessarily the right one for you. Think of it like choosing a restaurant: The most expensive restaurant in town might not serve the food you enjoy most!
How US universities are different from Chinese universities
In China, students usually get into universities based on their gaokao scores. But in the US, universities look at many different things:
●Your grades
●Your activities outside of class
●Your special talents
●Your personal story
●Your interests and goals
Good students and excellent professors can be found at hundreds of US universities, not just the highest-ranked ones.
What rankings don’t show you
Rankings often focus on things that might not matter to you, such as:
●How few students they accept (being “selective”)
●How many students graduate
●How famous the university’s name is
But they don’t show important things like:
●Whether the university has good support for international students
●How much individual attention you will get from professors
●Whether the university offers the specific program you want
●If the location and campus environment suit you
A surprising truth about famous universities
Here’s something most people don’t know: At many famous, highly-ranked universities, under graduate students rarely get taught by well-known professors. Instead, many classes are taught by graduate students or newer professors.
How to make a smart choice
Instead of just looking at rankings, ask yourself:
●What do I want to study?
●What kind of support will I need as an international student?
●What size school would make me comfortable?
●Can I afford this school?
●Does this location interest me?
Remember this!
Your goal should be finding the right university for YOU, not just picking the one with the highest ranking. Many excellent US universities might not appear in the top rankings but could offer exactly what you need to succeed.

(24-25高二下·浙江·期中)Fall is one of the best times to visit Europe because of the vast variety of interests the season can cater to. If you’re ready for a different take on Europe this fall, we’ve got ideas.
● Alentejo, Portugal
The Douro Valley, known for the production of port wine, is the obvious autumn choice in Portugal. But head instead to the Alentejo region, Portugal’s rural heartland. Here, you can see Roman remains in its UNESCO-protected capital Evora, go on a road trip through peaceful countryside planted with cork trees and olive groves, and enjoy the wild coast.
● Romania
Spending Halloween at “Dracula’s castle” is just one of the reasons to consider visiting Romania in autumn, which offers volunteer trips that might see you helping conservation efforts with rescued bears in Brasov. In addition to autumn’s changing leaves, the season marks the start of all kinds of foodie events.
● Thessaloniki, Greece
Fall is considered a great time to visit Thessaloniki, Greece’s gateway city to the Balkans, not for its beaches but for its rich Jewish history. The city is also known for its flavorful and diverse food scenes. Travelers can embark on an adventure, enjoying local delicacies, including bougatsa, loukoumades, and fresh seafood from the Aegean Sea.
● Malta
The Mediterranean archipelago of Malta — consisting of three inhabited islands, Malta, Gozo and Comino — is another summertime oven that becomes far more pleasant to visit once temperatures drop. Passage 5
(24-25高二下·浙江·期中)The best electric bikes of the year
If you’re looking for a way to travel to work or do your shopping without using your car—and paying at the pump—then one of the best electric bikes could be your answer. These battery-powered bicycles have a little motor that can give you an extra boost when you need it.
We’ve tested a number of the top models to give you the best recommendations for all kinds of electric bikes.
1. Aventon Soltera
SPECIFICATIONS
Battery: Phylion Lithium-Ion 36V, 10Ah with LG cells (removable)
Max estimated range: 20 to 63 miles, depending on assist setting
Max assisted speed: 20 mph
REASONS TO BUY:
● Impressive comfort
● Easy to read head unit
● Throttle (油门) is helpful getting the bike going from a dead stop
If you’re looking for a low-cost electric bike to get you around town, this is definitely a model to consider. However, the Soltera’s rear hub motor does feel a little underpowered, especially on hills.

Battery: 720 Wh
Max estimated range: 45 miles
Max assisted speed: 28 mph
REASONS TO BUY
● Flexible power with pedal assist and full throttle modes

If you’re looking for a fat-tire electric bike that’s less than $2,000, the Aventon Aventure is hard to beat. It’s as good off-road as it is on pavement, has a beefy battery and a clear color display, as well as fenders (挡泥板) that’ll save your clothes from getting too muddy. What’s more, the battery can be removed for charging. 3. Charge Bikes City
SPECIFICATIONS
Battery: 418Wh (unremovable)
Max estimated range: 50 miles
REASONS TO BUY
● Excellent handling
● Complete set of features
If you plan on commuting (通勤) to work, Charge Bikes City may well be the best ebike for you. Not only does it come with features like full-fenders to keep the mud off and a rear rack for a pack or bag, but it does everything well for a very reasonable price. It comes with all the necessary bells and whistles a commuter is going to want, including a very loud electronic horn. The bike is available in both step-over and step through, and in a few color options, too.

A.Both of them have fenders to keep the mud off.
B.Both of them provide color options.

A.It has a clear color display matching your clothes well.
B.It is best choice among the electric bikes less than $2,000.
C.It is capable mountain bike suiting all hilly terrain.

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·浙江杭州·期中)As our week in Las Vegas winds to a close, here’s one more look at the most clever, smart, and forward-thinking tech at CES 2026.
Titan Charger
It is a wireless charger with three charging points and can be used for three phones. While pricing and sales have yet to be announced, other MagFusion accessories (附件) announced by the company are already on sale, such as the $43 MagFusion GameFrost Qi2, which cools your phone while you play games and charge. It is always wise to keep the temperature as low as possible for battery life.
Afeela EV
This product has a lot of entertainment features built in. Afeela’s specifications include a target range of 300 miles, which puts its electric car in the same league as others that will beat it in the market. The Lucid Air Touring has similarly maximised wheels and sound features, but its 406-mile maximum range handily beats the Afeela for a base price of $78,900.
Robot Vacuum (真空)
You can click on the vacuum device to different attachments to turn it from a robotic vacuum into a small portable handheld vacuum. It empties itself into the docking station. The robot vacuum has a suction (抽吸) power with a Pa value of 8,000, and the handheld vacs have suction power of 30,000 Pa. The battery run time is 180 minutes.
G5OLED
Just when you thought OLEDs couldn’t get any brighter, LG flipped the script again with new panel tech that takes things nuclear. At the top of its new OLED order is the G5, which provides a claimed 40percent brightness boost over last year’s already fiery G4. What’s most remarkable here is that the TV shrugs off the G4’s breakthrough MLA panel technology for something wholly new.
1.What can we know about Titan Charger?
A.It can cool itself while charging.
B.Its spare parts are not yet available.
C.It has been priced but not yet available.

B.They are losing interest in its historical significance.
C.They actively explore both its traditions and modern forms.
D.They believe it should remain unchanged.
3.What does the underlined word “dilute” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.Strengthen. B.Simplify.
C.Weaken. D.Preserve.

We’ve tested a number of the top models to give you the best recommendations for all kinds of electric bikes.
1. Aventon Soltera

3. Charge Bikes City

Battery: 418Wh (unremovable)
Max estimated range: 50 miles
REASONS TO BUY
● Excellent handling
● Complete set of features
If you plan on commuting (通勤) to work, Charge Bikes City may well be the best ebike for you.
