1. 语言能力:能阅读关于“青少年烦恼与建议”的书信体文章,掌握核心词汇(worry, problem, advise, solve, normal, step, trust, experience, halfway)及短语(cut...in half, talk to someone, keep...to oneself, in the end);能运用略读和扫读策略提取书信的主旨、问题细节及建议要点。
1. 理解并运用描述心理状态和解决过程的核心短语(keep problems to oneself, cut it in half, talk to someone)。
3. 理解长难句,如“If people have problems, they should talk to someone.”及“Sharing a problem is like cutting it in half.”
Step 1 Warm-up & Lead-in
1. Brainstorming: Show an emoji of a worried face. Ask: “What problems do teenagers usually have?” (e.g., grades, friends, parents, money).
2. Quote Discussion: Present the sentence: “If you keep a problem to yourself, you are carrying a heavy stone.” Ask students what they think it means.
3. Prediction: Look at the title “Students These Days!” and the pictures in 3a. Predict: What are the students’ problems? Who will help them?
Step 2 While-reading (Task 1: Skimming for Main Idea)
1. Fast Reading: Read the passage quickly (3 mins) and match the main idea with each paragraph:
- Para 1: General introduction – Everyone has problems; talking helps.
- Para 2: Laura’s story – Lost wallet and parents’ reaction.
- Para 3: Robert’s story – Video games and advice from a teacher.
- Para 4: Conclusion – Steps to solve problems.
2. Check: Confirm predictions made in Step 1. Identify the structure: General Statement -> Examples -> Advice.
Step 3 While-reading (Task 2: Scanning for Details)
1. Case Study - Laura (3b): Read Para 2 carefully and complete the table:
- Problem: Lost her wallet (money was gone).
- Feeling: Afraid to tell parents, worried every day.
- Action: Finally told parents.
- Result: Parents were understanding, bought a new wallet, advised her to be careful.
2. Case Study - Robert (3c): Read Para 3 and answer:
- What was Robert’s problem? (Played too many video games, failed exams).
- Who did he talk to? (His teacher).
- What advice did the teacher give? (Stop playing games, focus on studies).
- Did it work? (Yes, he improved).
3. Vocabulary in Context: Guess the meaning of “normal”, “trust”, “experience” based on the sentences. Explain the metaphor: “Sharing a problem is like cutting it in half.”
Step 4 Post-reading (Task 3: Deep Thinking & Application)
1. Discussion (3d): Work in groups to discuss:
- “Why was Laura afraid to tell her parents at first? Was she right?”
- “Who is the best person to talk to when you have a problem? Why?” (Parents, teachers, friends, or strangers?)
2. Role-play Counseling: One student is a “Troubled Teen” (with a made-up problem), the other is a “School Counselor”. Use the structure:
- Teen: “I have a problem...”
- Counselor: “It’s normal. You should... / Why don’t you...?”
3. Advice Letter: Write a short reply (3-4 sentences) to either Laura or Robert, offering encouragement or additional advice.
Step 5 Summary & Emotional Sublimation
1. Mind Map: Summarize the passage structure: Problems exist -> Don’t hide -> Talk to someone -> Get advice -> Solve it.
2. Value Sharing: Emphasize that “You are not alone.” Trusting others is a sign of maturity, not weakness.
3. Class Slogan: Create a slogan for the class wall: “Share your worry, cut it in half!” or “Talk it out, feel better!”
Write a short paragraph (about 60 words) about a small problem you had recently and how you solved it (or who you talked to).
选做:Interview a parent or teacher: “What was your biggest problem when you were a teenager?” and share the story in the next class.
