It was a cold March day in High Point,North Carolina. The girls on the Wesleyan Academy softball team
were waiting for their next turns at bat during practice, stamping their feet to stay warm.Eighth-grader Taylor
Bisbee shivered (a little as she watched her teammate Paris White play. The two didn't know each other well
-Taylor had just moved to town a month or so before.
Suddenly,Paris fell to the ground."Paris's eyes rolled back,"Taylor says."She started shaking.I knew it was
an emergency."
It certainly was.Paris had suffered a sudden heart failure.Without immediate medical care,Paris would die.
At first,no one moved. The girls were in shock. Then the softball coach shouted out,"Does anyone know CPR?
CPR is a life-saving technique. To do CPR,you press on the sick person's chest so that blood moves through
the body and takes oxygen to organs.Without oxygen, the brain is damaged quickly.
Amazingly,Taylor had just taken a CPR course the day before.Still, she hesitated. She didn't think she knew
it well enough. But when no one else came forward,Taylor ran to Paris and began doing CPR."It was scary.I
knew it was the difference between life and death,"says Taylor.
Taylor's swift action helped her teammates calm down. One girl called 911.Two more ran to get the school
nurse, who brought a defibrillator,an electronic device that can shock the heart back into work.Luck stayed with
them:Paris's heartbeat returned.
"I know I was really lucky,"Paris says now."Most people don't survive this.My team saved my life."
Experts say Paris is right:For a sudden heart failure, the single best chance for survival is having someone

nearby step in and do CPR quickly.

B.Taylor's timely CPR and team's help

We've all been in a position where our phone runs out of battery, but we don't have anywhere to charge it.
Well, what if the clothing you were wearing could help you out? It's an option that isn't as strange as you might
think. Now the latest fashion breakthrough is taking "activewear"in an entirely new direction:researchers at
Nottingham Trent University have developed a new fabric that can keep small devices charged.
The prototype (includes 1,200 tiny solar panels, each measuring just 5 by 1.5 millimeters. It can
generate 400 milliwatts of electrical energy, enough to charge electronic devices.
"Until now very few people have considered their clothing products could be used for charging electronic
devices,"explains Theodore Hughes-Riley,an associate professor of Electronic Textiles."The material which we
have developed appears and behaves the same as any ordinary fabric,as it can be washed in a machine.Besides,
because the tiny solar cells are comprised of silicon ()wearers aren't able to even notice a discrepancy between
the fabric's composition and that of standard clothing."
Potential products include items like outerwear, backpacks and other carrying bags using the material, all of
which could allow wearers to keep their devices charged during the day."Electronic fabrics really have the
potential to change people's relationship with technology,as this prototype shows how we could live without
charging many devices on the wall,"adds Theodore.
Solar power innovations are key to transforming human society from fossil fuel technologies, and are coming
into a variety of fields. The European Space Agency, for example, plans to experiment with solar panel systems
orbiting above Earth.Since there are no real"days"or"nights"in space, potential solar power generation could be
as much as 8 or 9 times greater than what's currently achievable here on Earth's surface. As powerful as that may
one day be for us,it's encouraging to know even changes like the composition of our clothing can help promote
the necessary renewable energy shift for our species
28.Why is the new fabric special?
A.It can adjust people'body temperatures.
B.It can change clothes'colors in the sun.
C.It can produce electricity from sunlight.
D.It is much tougher than standard clothing.
29.What does the underlined word"discrepancy"in paragraph 3mean?

Finland has integrated "Phenomenon-Based Learning"(PhBL)into its national curriculum (),a shift
credited with enhancing its global educational standing. This innovative approach prepares students for future by
moving beyond traditional subject boundaries, promoting a more comprehensive (understanding of the
world.
In a PhBL classroom, learning is centered on exploring complex,real-world phenomena such as"climate
change"or "the European Union".Students do not learn subjects like history or science in isolation.Instead, they
work collaboratively in teams, conducting authentic research, analyzing information from various angles, and
communicating with field experts. Here, the teacher acts primarily as a facilitator and guide, rather than a sole
lecturer. This interactive process is designed to naturally cultivate essential 21st-century skills:critical thinking,
creativity,communication,and collaboration.
Rooted in constructivism,PhBL posits that students build knowledge actively. They start with a real-world
challenge, then gather, interpret, and combine data before proposing workable solutions. This makes the learning
experience hands-on and meaningful. The final outcome is often a comprehensive project or a detailed portfolio
that demonstrates their problem-solving abilities and practical application of knowledge.
Technology plays a crucial role in this model.Finnish schools view educational technology as a powerful tool
for inquiry,not an end in itself.Students utilize (digital resources,including videos,online databases.This
shift towards diverse digital sources is reshaping learning materials, potentially leading to the demise of traditional
textbooks as students are no longer limited to a single source of information.
Ultimately,by encouraging students to actively investigate the world and tackle its problems,PhBL makes
learning deeply meaningful. It aims to create lifelong learners who can skillfully use integrated knowledge and
technology to address global issues. It is this vision of engaged, applicable education that makes PhBL so effective
and has captured the attention of educators worldwide
32.What is a key feature of PhBL in Finland?
A.It focuses on the deep learning of a single subject.
B.It requires students to learn without teachers'guidance.
C.It mainly uses technology to deliver traditional lectures
D.It breaks the subject boundaries to explore real-world topics.
33.How does the author develop the idea of PhBL in Paragraph 2?
A.By giving examples.
B.By telling a story.
C.By presenting data
D.By quoting opinions
34.What does the underlined word"demise"in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?

When things went wrong,Fein always had something nice to say.
When Dad forgot about the pizza and it burned,Fein comforted him by saying it would still taste good. And
he was right. The pizza edges were dark and crispy, but the middle wasn't half bad. When Fein's friend got a low
score on the spelling test,Fein said that she would do better next time. And,sure enough, she studied hard and got
100 percent the next week. When his teacher bumped into a book stand in the library,Fein told him not to worry as
the librarian wouldn't be upset. He was right. The librarian just laughed and helped pick up the books.
Fein looked on the bright side. And everyone except Hazel liked that about him.Hazel was the new kid in the
class.On her first day,Fein said,Nice to meet you,Hazel.I think you'll like it here."Hazel stared at him."I
doubt it."Fein didn't know what to do.He'd never met anyone like Hazel. When the teacher said they'd take a
break inside because of the rain,,Fein said,“Every cloud has a silver lining.”(每一朵鸟云都有一线银边),
"A silver lining?Hazel shook her head."Clouds are white.Maybe gray.Where do you get this stuff?Fein
felt as if the wind had been knocked out of him.
Outside the window, the clouds had rolled over the sun.The room felt darker."Bad things come in threes,"
said Hazel."No outdoor break is number one. What will be the second thing? The class didn't have to wait long
to find out.
Emma was carrying a tray of paints during art class. She tripped, and the paint went flying. There was blue on
the floor and red and black on the walls.Hazel declared it to be the second bad thing.Fein didn't know what to say.
Hazel seemed so sure about the Rule of Three Bad Things.Emma came to look at Fein's painting."It's beautiful.I
especially like the grassland,"she said.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Emma picked up the painting, not realizing she had paints on her fingers.
