第三步:复读检查,避免失误 将所选选项代入原文,完整通读,检查文章是否通顺、逻辑是否连贯;
警惕偷换概念、以偏概全、绝对化表达、与上下文无关的选项。

Unseen but there
Microplastics (微塑料) are very small. 17 A new study said that by 2040, microplastic pollution could be twice as bad as it is now. Scientists learned this by looking at 20 years of studies on microplastics.
Microplastics are very small pieces of plastic. They come from many places. 18 Every time they are washed, they shed (掉落) microplastics. When water bottles and other big plastic items (物品) are left outside, they break down slowly into microplastics.
According to National Geographic, microplastics are usually less than five millimeters in size. This small size lets them go everywhere, even in water and air. They don’t break down easily and can stay in the environment for hundreds of years.
19 In August, The Conversation reported that scientists found microplastics in people’s brains for the first time. They may hurt brain cells (细胞) and change how the brain works.
Wild animals are also at risk from microplastic pollution. Each year, up to three million tons of microplastics end up in the ocean. 20 To deal with the problem, scientists think the best solution right now is to make and use less plastic.
A.This can be bad for our health.
B.But they bring big problems.
C.So there are different forms of microplastics.
D.For example, about 60 percent of material made into clothing is plastic.

Super Fast Train on Its Way
The world’s fastest high-speed train is on the way.
On December 29, 2024, China brought to light a prototype (样车) of the train. It marks a new era for the country’s high-speed trains.
The newest model is called the CR450. CR stands for China Railway. The CR450 is able to run at 450 kilometers per hour in tests. When it enters service, its speed is expected to reach 400 kilometers per hour. 21 The CR400 came out in 2017. It operates at 350 kilometers per hour.
22 According to its developers, the CR450 offers a quieter ride. The noise levels inside the train have been reduced. Meanwhile, cabin (座舱) spaces have been increased so that passengers can enjoy more comfortable rides.
In addition, the train has shorter braking (刹车) distance. It is also designed with greater stability (稳定性). All this helps to ensure the safety of passengers.
The new train has been tested across several high-speed rail lines in China. 23 Further tests are needed, said the China State Railway Group. All tests are set to be finished within two years.
24 It has built the world’s largest railway network. The network covers almost all corners of the country. High-speed rail has been an effective means of travel for long journeys as it allows people to travel around with ease and comfort.
A.It is not yet put into use, though.
B.The CR450 does well not just in speed.
C.How to reduce the noise of the high-speed train?

Do you know anything about the Moon? How much do you know about it? Do you want to go there? Scientists have told us so much about the Moon.
They have discovered that the Moon is an unfriendly place. There is no air or water. There are only dust and rocky mountains covering its surface. 37 When the Sun shines in the day, the temperature is very high. Daytime temperatures can reach 127℃ when the Sun shines, hot enough to boil water! But at night, it drops to -173℃, colder than Antarctica.
38 As we know, sound can only travel in the air but there is no air on the Moon. Without air, sound cannot travel. Although two astronauts stood close, they would need radios to communicate. Even a loud crash would be completely silent!
From the Moon, Earth looks like a bright blue-and-white ball hanging in the dark sky. The scene would be wonderful. 39
Though challenging, China has made amazing progress in exploring the Moon. In 2013, Chang’e-3 became the first Chinese spacecraft to soft-land on the Moon, carrying the Yutu rover that studied lunar soil for 31 months. In 2024, Chang’e-6 successfully brought back 1.935 kilograms of moon samples, helping scientists discover new facts about the Moon’s volcanic history. 40
Would you like to join future missions to build a lunar research station?
A.The Moon is also a silent world.

Last summer, I took an exciting trip to Nairobi National Park. It’s just 7 kilometers away from the city center. What makes the park special? 5 As soon as I arrived there, the warm African sun kissed my face, and the loud roar (咆哮) of a lion reached my ears. I couldn’t wait to start.
The park is huge, covering about 117 square kilometers. Electric fences (围墙) keep the park separate from the city on three sides-east, west, and north. But the south side keeps open, letting animals move freely as the seasons change. The park has been there for over 70 years. There are 80 kinds of mammals (哺乳动物) and more than 500 kinds of birds in the park. 6 But here’s an important rule—they must stay inside their cars. Why? Because there are big, dangerous animals like lions and leopards walking around!
It’s unbelievable that we can not see elephants in the park. 7 So there might not be enough food for the other animals. Also, they could be a danger to people living nearby. However, in the park, there is a meaningful Ivory Burning Monument (象牙焚烧纪念碑). It’s said that Kenya’s president burned 2.5 tons of ivory here to show the government’s strong will against ivory trade in 1989. And the monument was built to remind people of this famous historical event. Today many visitors from all over the world and Kenyan students go there.
8 And we all share the same home—the earth. We should care for our animal friends and protect our planet.
A.One reason is that elephants eat tons of plants for food.

33 Lots of reading improves your vocabulary and helps you keep in touch with English. Consider reading aloud to improve your pronunciation of words. If you come across new words, make sure you search for their meanings. Try to remember these words and use them in your speech.
Second, listen more. 34 You can also write down the words of the songs and say them just as you hear them. Or you can turn to an online voice and accent software (语音软件) for help. Listening to English news on the radio is also helpful.
Third, just speak. Find a native (本土的) speaker and communicate with the person without worrying about making mistakes. 35 Making use of every chance to speak English will help improve your pronunciation.
Finally, be active. 36 Through the interaction (互动) with your teacher and classmates, you will get the skills required to communicate naturally. You won’t become a good speaker by passive (被动的) listening.
As long as you follow these suggestions, you will be sure to improve your spoken English.
A.First of all, read widely.
B.It is a great place to practice your spoken English.
C.Consider listening to English songs and try following them.
D.If you need more practice, be active in your English class.

E.Since they are too small to be seen, fish may eat them by mistake and become very sick.

D.It’s much faster than the CR400 model.
E.China is now the world leader in railway development.

B.The Moon is the closest planet to Earth.
C.These achievements show China’s growing space technology.
D.The temperature of the Moon is different from day to night.
E.Many astronauts say seeing Earth from space changes their ideas about our planet.

1 Peach and plum trees are used as a metaphor (比喻) for students. You may wonder why people compare students to these two kinds of trees.
In fact, it comes from an ancient story about Zizhi, an officer and educator, who lived in the state of Wei during the Spring and Autumn Period. 2 As a result, he left his state, and set up a private school and started to teach students by himself.
After setting up the school, Zizhi accepted all the students who showed great interest in study, no matter what family they came from. 3 And he often pointed at a peach and a plum tree in his garden and said, “You should work hard to become a useful person so that you can benefit society, just like when the peach and plum trees bloom and yield fruit (开花结果).”
Keeping the teacher’s words in their minds, many of Zizhi’s students went on to different countries and achieved great success. 4
Later, when Zizhi traveled around different places, he saw his students and the trees they planted. He was deeply moved. “My students are like peach and plum trees. They are everywhere, and they have achieved great success,” he said.

Silk, the word itself is beautiful. The story of silk started in China over 4,000 years ago. It says a silkworm’s cocoon (蚕茧) fell into a woman’s teacup. It then opened into a single, unbroken thread (线). 17 The Chinese learned they could use the cocoons to make cloth that was both beautiful to look at and soft to touch.
18 In other countries, silk was valuable and not often seen. Often it was worth more than gold. It’s said that the secret finally got out when a princess left China to go to India. In her hair, she secretly carried many silkworms.
By the year 1 A.D., silk was sold as far west as Rome, and all along the Silk Road. 19 Centuries later, in 1522, the Spanish brought silkworms to Mexico.
Nowadays people around the world still make many beautiful things from silk. It seems that silk is easy to break. Actually it’s very strong. For example, it has been used to make bicycle tires (轮胎). Silk is not only beautiful but also light and warm. 20

Every one of us has a chance to try new things. When we try something new, there’s always the risk. 21
For example, we may try a food we have never had before, and we don’t like the food finally. We may try a new style of music and get a headache. We may try a new sport like skating and end up falling down a lot. 22 We may try to speak or write a different language and end up getting into an embarrassing (使人尴尬的) situation.
It sounds risky to us. 23 For example, we can try a new food, and we fall in love with it finally. We may try a new sport and fall down but we get back up and finally experience pleasure, even for a minute. We may see why people love that sport so much.
If we try a new kind of music, we may regret we didn’t find it sooner. We can see a new kind of art and may be surprised at its beauty. We can try to write or speak a different language, and we may be a little embarrassed at first, but we know that the only way to improve is to make mistakes and keep on trying.
24 Then you will have chances to get rewards (回报).

A friend advises me to say no more often, so I can fix my eyes on what matters most. Personally, I’ve used his advice to great advantage. 17 I’ve noticed a few areas where people hesitate (犹豫) to say yes. Here’s what I suggest you say YES to:
Say yes to challenge (挑战).
18 Why add any more challenge to your life than you already have? Although there are a few challenges you might have good reasons to say no to, say yes to the challenges that stretch and grow you. My dad has wisely pointed out that I may do best when in a challenging situation. Challenge can bring out the best in you.
19
It’s true that too much fun can be frivolous (无聊的). However, in some cases, it is also easy to get so focused on our work that we forget to enjoy it and have fun. Sometimes you can have fun, but you can make the situation fun by the attitude and energy you bring to it.
Say yes to opportunity (机会).
Put yourself in the place full of opportunities. Sometimes opportunity finds you, but more often you have to search for it. 20 Communicate with people who are making things happen. And when you do find opportunity, don’t pass it by because of laziness.

How to Develop Good Study Habits
Most teenagers need to learn how to develop good study habits. Learning effective (有效的) study methods can make you feel less stressed about school and improve grades. Here are some useful methods.
☆ Make a plan ahead of time. First, create a calendar. Use a large wall calendar and write all of your tasks and activities on it. Next, create a weekly planner (规划簿). 25 You should make sure to include time to work on each task a few days before it’s due. Then, create a daily list. This to-do list helps you to know what you should do a day and see how much progress you’re making.
☆ Consider study environment. 26 Maybe you work better alone. Or, maybe you like to work in a group. No matter what place you choose, when it’s homework time, that’s the environment you should study in.
☆ 27 It can be very distracting (使分心) to have to look for a pencil or a ruler in the middle of studying. Find a place where they can keep all your homework materials so you’re ready to go.
☆ Keep a worry notepad (便笺). If you are easily distracted by your own thoughts, a worry notepad is a good tool for you. Instead of trying to deal with all the distracting things, you can write them down on the notepad. 28
Good study habits don’t always come easily. It takes time to develop.
A.Have all materials on hand.
B.What good study habits do you have?
C.Make a study plan for each week.
