I worried about him more than the other farm cats because he would head off on his own and go exploring, even when he was too young to safely do so. He also seemed compelled to add a different twist to whatever activities his siblings were engaging in. If they were sunning themselves in front of the barn, he was sprawled on the window ledge of the chicken coop. I could never figure out how he could get up there when he was such a young kitten. When Momma Cat started to take the kittens a little farther from the barn, and they were learning to climb trees, Rusty decided that climbing my horse's tail was a lot more fun! Fortunately, my horse did not object to it, and she would stand quietly as he practised his climbing skills. When he reached his destination and sat on my horse's back and surveyed his kingdom, her tolerance and his determination made them quite the team. One day, Rusty was climbing her tail as usual, but the horseflies were especially bad. My horse swished her tail, and Rusty went flying. It took him a couple of days to plan another strategy, and then he had it!! He would wait until she was happily grazing and then climb up her face and walk along her neck until he reached the middle of her back. Then, he curled up for his nap. It became the norm to see my horse grazing in the pasture with Rusty sleeping on her back. When he awoke from his nap, he would wait until she put down her head and then make the trek back down her neck and leap to the ground from between her ears. As Rusty became heavier, my horse wasn't quite as convinced that she needed a big cat hanging on her head. Whether it was coincidence or a well-thought-out plan between the two, they came up with a new strategy. She would walk over to the gate in her pasture, and Rusty would climb up the gate post and then leap to her back. One day, I was planning on going for a ride in the country. My horse was saddled, and we were ready to go. Then, I remembered that spraying myself with a bit of mosquito repellent might be a good idea. I tied my horse to the gate, and when I returned Rusty was sitting in the saddle. I put him on the ground, got on my horse, and headed down the lane. I turned around to make sure that all was well and could see him running along behind. I turned back and put Rusty in the barn. But he got out and followed us. Once again, I turned around and this time I locked him in the vacant chicken coop. It was screened, and I felt he would be safe there until I returned. I gave him food and water to distract him and assumed he would be happily sleeping when I returned. I made it down the lane and turned around to check. No Rusty. I was happily riding down the road, enjoying the wonderful smells and sounds of summer in the country. I saw a tractor pulling large equipment coming down the road towards us. The farmer pulled over and shouted to me. He laughed and said, "Did you know that you have a cat following you?" And, sure enough, there was the escapee determined to find out where we dared to go without him! The farmer said he would wait until Rusty caught up to us as he didn't want to risk running over him or scaring him with his equipment. I admitted to defeat and let Rusty ride home in my lap. That was the beginning of what became our weekly routine. Our routes included busy grid roads between farms and the ditches alongside a busy highway. Locals would recognize us and slow down when they saw the horse and rider coming down the road with the orange cat peering at them from the saddle. The most frequent comment was “I can't believe that darn cat likes to ride a horse!" Strangers on the highway would often slam on the brakes and wait for us to catch up, so they could have a better look at the cat sprawled across my lap at the front of the saddle. The three of us covered many miles together over the years, and I wouldn't have changed a thing. That little cat taught me to step outside the norm and to just go for whatever feels right. His determination and persistence to do things “his way" were valuable lessons in how to live life to the fullest. 1. What can we learn about Rusty from the first two paragraphs? A. I worried about him more than the other farm cats because he often went exploring alone, even when he was too young. He also loved doing something different from his siblings. When Momma Cat taught the kittens to climb trees, Rusty found climbing my horse’s tail much more fun. Luckily, my horse stayed quiet and did not mind. Rusty would climb onto her back and look around as if ruling his own little kingdom. One day, because of terrible horseflies, the horse swung her tail and sent Rusty flying. After thinking for a couple of days, he worked out a new way. He waited for the horse to eat grass peacefully, then climbed up her face and along her neck to the middle of her back, where he curled up for a nap. It soon became common to see the horse eating with Rusty sleeping on her back. One day, I prepared to go riding. I tied my horse to the gate and left to get mosquito repellent (驱虫剂). When I came back, Rusty was sitting in the saddle(马鞍). I put him down and set off, but he ran after us. I turned back and locked him in the empty chicken cage for safety, hoping he would stay there quietly until I returned. I rode down the track, turned around to check, but didn’t see Rusty. ______________ I admitted to defeat and let Rusty ride home in my lap. ________________ 参考范文 I rode down the track, turned around to check, but didn’t see Rusty. Just as I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking I had finally left him safely at the farm, a thin, anxious meow cut through the quiet air. There he was! The small cat rushed swiftly along the path, his legs moving quickly and his eyes fixed firmly on us. He stopped beside the horse, gazing up at me eagerly and trying desperately to climb up, unwilling to be left behind even for a moment. I admitted defeat and let Rusty ride home in my lap. He curled up comfortably at once, purring softly and gently, as if he had long been waiting for this moment. My horse walked slowly and steadily, as if she was used to carrying her tiny companion. Bathed in the warm golden sunlight, I felt a deep sense of peace and happiness. It was then that I realized this little, determined cat had already become an irreplaceable part of my life. 1)sprawled on the window ledge 2)swished her tail and Rusty went flying 3)climb up her face and walk along her neck 4)curled up for his nap 5)running along behind * 语言形象、鲜活、有趣,让读者如临其境。 3. 用词精准地道,高级但不晦涩 1)普通词汇:head off, explore, sleep, run, follow 2)高级精准词:compel, twist, tolerance, strategy, vacant, persistence, determination 3)高频短语:object to, figure out, admit defeat, step outside the norm * 完全贴合高考“用词准确、语域恰当”的评价标准。 4. 1)taught me to step outside the norm 2)determination and persistence 3)live life to the fullest *先叙后议、画龙点睛。 6. 词汇:高考核心高频词 性格品质词:independent, tolerant 动作行为词:explore, object, graze, escape, admit defeat 态度情感词:determined, astonished 高频短语:head off, figure out, object to, catch up, live life to the fullest 7. 8. 语篇衔接手段(高考重点考查能力) 时间衔接:as a kitten, one day, then, when, as grew heavier 逻辑衔接:but, fortunately, because 替代与重复:strategy, approach, routine 等体现语篇连贯性 篇章连接:行为连贯、情感连贯、逻辑连贯 参考译文 猫咪是和善的主人,只要你记得自己的位置。
