B At 65, Bryony Harris took out her pension (退休金) and signed up for a psychotherapy (心理治疗) course. “I’m happy that I used my pension to train for a new career,” she says. Now, at 74, she has a successful psychotherapy practice in Fredrikstad, Norway. “I just knew it was the right time, and I felt equipped to do it. It was the very best thing I ever did for myself.” The four-year course was on the coast of Denmark. To get there, Harris drove for five hours through southern Norway. “It always felt like coming home,” she says. Her experience was transformative Practising psychotherapy, she says, “helps me to understand the word ‘calling’.” And yet Harris has had many careers over the decades. At university in Kingston upon Thames, London, she trained as an architect, and then, worked as one “for short and long periods” while raising four children. Next came a period as a photographer on a community arts project, then teaching photography. “The world offered more possibilities than I had ever realised,” Harris says. She regards these moves as gradual shifts (转换) rather than reinvention. “I have never made a decision such as ‘I’m going to stop doing that and do something else.’ It’s always been a gentle progression.” Years ago, she and her husband had a dream to open a shop specialising in books about folklore, mythology and tradition. The shop, in Hatherleigh, Devon, is “where the idea of therapy came into my mind. Because in a small independent bookshop, people open up and talk.” Harris also says that her “therapy side was hiding in the background” when she taught photography. In her 40s, she had a short period of counselling (咨询). She no longer recalls exactly why, but it must have had an impact because when she turned 60, she wrote letters “to people who had been hugely influential in my life.” She searched for her former counsellor, but unfortunately couldn’t find him. Harris has a can-do spirit. The best psychotherapy course was in Denmark, so first she had to learn Danish. “I really love a good challenge. Sometimes you can feel very stuck, but that is how I have lived my life,” she says. When she was a child, Harris’s parents liked moving. She had nine homes before she went to university. “Now, I have no desire to uproot myself.” Her flat looks out over a river, and she has lived there longer than she has lived anywhere else. Each week brings fresh calls to her practice. 24. What did Harris think of the psychotherapy course? A. The journey to it was tiring. B. It helped her make friends. C. She could hardly afford it. D. It made her feel at ease. 25. What do we know about Harris’s past careers? A. They were all abandoned for family reasons. B. They led her to find her true calling. C. They made her very important. D. They all proved to be a failure. 26. What inspired Harris to take up psychotherapy as a career? A. Readers’ willingness to communicate in the bookshop. B. Her talk with her husband about medical specialists. C. Chats with her students in photography classes. D. Her successful experience as a counsellor. 27. What can we infer about Harris from the text? A. She acts as her parents did. B. She lives her life to the fullest. C. She speaks Danish as her native language. D. She has returned to the place where she was born. C Family vlogging — the frequent recording and uploading of personal videos of the family, usually on video sharing website — has become big business nowadays, especially among parents of young children. The more viewers such videos can get, the more money the family can make. At first thought, it does seem like an easy way to make money. However, are we doing right by putting their lives up for public attention? For one thing, as the children grow up, they increasingly become aware that what they do needs to be admirable enough for the public to enjoy — Being young children, they also would want to do whatever it takes to please others. They then feel the pressure to be perfect, and as that is something not always possible, they become anxious and stressed. Comments from viewers and the expectations of sponsors (赞助者) can also affect the parents’ reactions towards their children. Another problem is the lack of privacy in the children’s lives. As the children reach adolescence, there is a greaser need for personal space. At 12 or 13, very few children would appreciate being filmed while eating or having a conversation with their friends. Teenhood is a time of significant change in an individual, both physically and emotionally, and is a time when parents need to protect their children and guide them, instead of exposing them to the eyes of the public. Family vlogging can be irresistible, given how it allows parents to bring greater fun to their family lives. There is also the easy money and the fame to look forward to. Indeed, all would probably go well, but only as long as parents keep in mind that, if not managed well, making their children live their lives in the unforgiving eyes of the public could prove to be a big mistake. 28. How does vlogging about children’s lives influence the family? A. Children will get used to public attention. B. Children may suffer from too much pressure. C. Parents may show no concern for their children. D Parents become addicted to exposing their children to the public. 29. How does the writer mainly develop his argument? A. By providing examples B. By listing numbers C. By making comparisons D. By analyzing causes 30. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the text? A. To introduce a new big business B. To show how vlogging influence people’s lives. C. To persuade parents to watch out for comments from viewers. D. To convince parents of the danger of vlogging about children’s lives. 31. What’s the writer’s attitude to vlogging about children’s lives? A. negative B. positive C. neutral D. uninterested How to Enjoy Spring As winter is past and the days start warming and brightening, it s possible to start feeling your mood improved and you re less weighed down by the cold days of winter. ____32____ And indeed it is the time to renew your goals, refresh your home, and unearth your garden. The last thing Solo did before entering the building was to lick his owner’s face. A few minutes later, Solo was shot and killed in the line of duty. I knew how sad that officer must have felt because my own dog, Kela, had recently died. The article went on to tell about a fundraiser (募捐活动) that was going on to help buy bulletproof vests (防弹背心) for the police dogs there. I thought every police dog should be protected just like the police. I may be a kid, but why can’t I do a fundraiser to help save the dogs in our area? Then 1 found out that a bulletproof vest for a police dog costs $475. My mom thought it was a lot of money for an eleven-year-old girl to raise, but she told me to go ahead and try anyway. We called our local Oceanside Police Department and learned that their dogs needed bulletproof vests. At that point, I realized that I needed a name for the fundraiser and thought since I was trying to protect just one dog’s life, I would call my program Vest A Dog. I decided that vet offices and pet stores would be really good places to go with donation boxes and Vest A Dog fliers (传单). I used little green take-out boxes, decorated with a picture of Tiko, the dog I chose to vest, and me. I wrote on each box “Help protect the life of a police dog by donating a dollar.” One afternoon, after all the boxes had been placed throughout our community, I got a call from a local newspaper reporter who had seen one of my fliers. The reporter decided to do an article about Vest A Dog. That ought to spread the word, I thought. I asked officer Jim Wall, who is Tiko’s partner, if they would have their picture taken with me for the article and they did. After the article came out, I eagerly checked to see if there were any donations. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ About three weeks later, I counted the money from all of the boxes. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一节听下面5段对话。 Have you invited mary and Lucy to . your party? C She could hardly afford it. 24. D 25. B 26. A 27. Because in a small independent bookshop, people open up and talk.”(这家位于德文郡哈瑟利的商店“让我萌生了治疗的想法”。 故选A。 根据倒数第二段““I really love a good challenge. Sometimes you can feel very stuck, but that is how I have lived my life,” she says.(她说:“我真的很喜欢挑战。 B。 C Family vlogging — the frequent recording and uploading of personal videos of the family, usually on video sharing website — has become big business nowadays, especially among parents of young children. D. Parents become addicted to exposing their children to the public. A. negative B. positive C. neutral D. uninterested 【答案】28. B 29. D 30. D 31. 根据第二段中的“For one thing, as the children grow up, they increasingly become aware that what they do needs to be admirable enough for the public to enjoy — Being young children, they also would want to do whatever it takes to please others. They then feel the pressure to be perfect, and as that is something not always possible, they become anxious and stressed. 根据第二段中的“For one thing, as the children grow up, they increasingly become aware that what they do needs to be admirable enough for the public to enjoy — Being young children, they also would want to do whatever it takes to please others. 以及第三段中的“Another problem is the lack of privacy in the children’s lives. As the children reach adolescence, there is a greaser need for personal space.(另一个问题是孩子们生活中缺乏隐私。 根据首段中的“However, are we doing right by putting their lives up for public attention?(然而,我们把他们的生活公之于众是对的吗?)” 接下来从两个方面分析了家庭视频博客将孩子的生活公之于众存在的问题,结合尾段中的“Indeed, all would probably go well, but only as long as parents keep in mind that, if not managed well, making their children live their lives in the unforgiving eyes of the public could prove to be a big mistake.(事实上,一切都可能顺利进行,但前提是父母要记住,如果管理不善,让孩子在公众无情的目光下生活可能会是一个巨大的错误。)” 根据首段中的“However, are we doing right by putting their lives up for public attention?(然而,我们把他们的生活公之于众是对的吗?)”可知,作者在首段用提问的方式引出本文的主题,说明作者对此做法持怀疑态度,结合尾段中的“Indeed, all would probably go well, but only as long as parents keep in mind that, if not managed well, making their children live their lives in the unforgiving eyes of the public could prove to be a big mistake.(事实上,一切都可能顺利进行,但前提是父母要记住,如果管理不善,让孩子在公众无情的目光下生活可能会是一个巨大的错误。)” 故选A项。 How to Enjoy Spring As winter is past and the days start warming and brightening, it s possible to start feeling your mood improved and you re less weighed down by the cold days of winter. ____32____ And indeed it is the time to renew your goals, refresh your home, and unearth your garden. D 36. 【32题详解】 根据上文“As winter is past and the days start warming and brightening, it s possible to start feeling your mood improved and you re less weighed down by the cold days of winter.(随着冬天的过去,白天开始变暖,变亮,你有可能开始感觉你的情绪得到改善,你不再被寒冷的冬天拖累。)” C. Spring is the time of enjoying something fresh. 【33题详解】 根据本段主题句“Make a plan at the start of spring.(在春天开始时制定一个计划。)” E. The beginning of spring is the best time to plan.( 春天的开始是制定计划的最佳时机。) 根据下文“This is a good time to sit back and assess the strengths and weaknesses of your current living space and to reach a decision about whether or not it could be improved through a change in decoration styles or additions through decorations (这是一个很好的可以坐下来评估你目前的生活空间的优缺点的时候,并决定是否可以通过改变装饰风格或通过装饰的添加来改善它。)” B. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 After the article came out, I eagerly checked to see if there were any donations. Every day after school, I rushed to each location, hoping to find the boxes filled with contributions. To my delight, I started noticing more and more people stopping by the boxes, curious about Vest A Dog and willing to donate. Children were emptying their piggy banks, while adults were digging into their wallets for spare change or even writing checks. The community's response was overwhelming, and my heart swelled with gratitude. About three weeks later, I counted the money from all of the boxes. With trembling hands, I separated the bills and coins, triple-checking each count. The total amount astounded me – it was far beyond what I had ever imagined. We had managed to raise not just enough for one vest, but sufficient funds for multiple vests. I couldn't wait to share the news with Officer Jim Wall and Tiko. Their joy and appreciation upon hearing the update was priceless and I realized that no dream is too big, and even a young heart can make a significant impact. 词汇激活 行为类 ①冲向:rush to/hurry to ②注意到:notice/observe/spot ③筹集:raise/collect 情绪类 ①令人高兴的是:to one’s delight/to one’s joy ②使震惊:astound/astonish/shock 【点睛】【高分句型1】The total amount astounded me —— it was far beyond what I had ever imagined.(运用了what引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】Their joy and appreciation upon hearing the update was priceless and I realized that no dream is too big, and even a young heart can make a significant impact.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
