(1)dare用作情态动词时,其后接动词原形,通常只用于否定句或疑问句以及if或whether之后。

句型公式:动词-ing形式短语作伴随状语
句中动词-ing形式短语pulling at his own ears作伴随状语,表示伴随的情况,所表示的动作与谓语动作同时发生;伴随状语的逻辑主语通常是句子的主语。
动词-ing形式短语作状语,还可以表示方式、时间、条件、原因、结果、让步等。

句型公式:must have done sth 一定做过某事
“情态动词+have+过去分词”表示对过去事情推测的其他形式:
(1)must have done表示对过去行为的推测,意为“一定;想必”,语气十分肯定。
(2)may/might have done表示对过去行为的推测,意为“可能做过”。might所表示的可能性比较弱,语气较委婉。
(3)can't have done多用于语气强烈的否定,意为“不可能做过”,是must have done 的否定形式。而can/could have done表示“本来可以做而实际上未做”或者“过去可能”,疑问或否定形式表示对过去发生的行为表示怀疑或不肯定。

本句中否定词nothing与比较级better连用,表示最高级含义。
表示最高级含义的几种特殊结构:
(1)“否定词+比较级”结构,意为“没有比……更……;没有像……一样……”,常用的否定词有no、not、never、nothing、nobody、hardly等。
(2)can/ could+never/ not...enough/ too...意为“再……也不过分”。
