I was desperate (急迫的) to find a cure. Despite trying different solutions, nothing worked. In my hopelessness, my father suggested acupuncture, a treatment he had experienced in Hong Kong. It had successfully relieved his lower back pain when other therapies and medicines had failed. With limited exposure to traditional Chinese medicine, I decided to give acupuncture a try. With no particular expectations, I found myself in the office of a middle-aged woman, surrounded by Chinese herbal medicines. After explaining my issue, she placed three fingers on my wrist to feel my heartbeat. I was then guided to a room and told to lie down. Soon, she took out the needles, which made me somewhat uneasy as such objects typically make me uncomfortable. My initial experience with acupuncture was quite surprising. To address my headache, the treatment began on the back of my hand, far from my head. As the doctor gently handled the needles, I got the feeling that something was flowing through my entire body. The doctor then continued to tap and move more needles across my body. The electricity was turned on, and the doctor left the room. While lying still, I could sense the electricity flowing throughout me. Around the five-minute mark, the doctor returned and adjusted the electricity level. A moment later, before I knew it, she turned off the electricity and removed the needles, marking an end to the 30-minute process. She then gave me some herbal medicine to drink for five days. I returned to the doctor for a total of 10 sessions, and each time the same routine was repeated and the same herbal medicine was given. The true benefits of the acupuncture treatment became clear. I remained free of headaches for two years. I now advocate acupuncture. If you’ve experienced similar conditions, I highly recommend trying it. 24. What led the author to try acupuncture for her migraines? A. A friend’s suggestion. B. Disappointment with other treatments. C. An acupuncture ad she came across. D. Her belief in traditional Chinese medicine. 25. What does the underlined word “uneasy” in paragraph 3 mean? A Relaxed. B. Annoyed. C. Anxious. D. Restless. 26. What do we know about the author’s first acupuncture treatment? A. The treatment lasted for only five minutes. B. Herbal medicines were used before the treatment. C. Frequent adjustments were made to the needles. D. The electricity level was changed during the treatment. 27. How does the author currently feel about acupuncture? A. Uninterested. B. Neutral. C. Satisfied. D. Doubtful. B 25. C 26. D 27. 根据第一段“Despite trying different solutions, nothing worked.(尽管尝试了各种方法,但都没有效果)”以及第二段“In my hopelessness, my father suggested acupuncture, a treatment he had experienced in Hong Kong.(在我绝望之际,父亲提议试试针灸疗法,那是他在香港时曾使用过的一种治疗方法)”可知,促使作者尝试针灸来治疗偏头痛的原因是对其他治疗方法的失望。 根据划线词上文“Soon, she took out the needles, which made me somewhat(很快,她拿出了那些针,这让我有些……)” 根据倒数第二段“Around the five-minute mark, the doctor returned and adjusted the electricity level.(大约在五分钟后,医生回来了,并调整了电流强度)”可知,作者第一次接受针灸治疗,治疗过程中电疗的强度有所变化。 根据最后一段“I remained free of headaches for two years. I now advocate acupuncture. If you’ve experienced similar conditions, I highly recommend trying it.(我两年都没有再出现头痛的症状了。现在我提倡使用针灸疗法。如果你也有过类似的情况,我强烈建议你试试看)”可知,作者目前对针灸感到满意。故选C。 C Cities across the globe are taking different paths in smart governance. One example is the development of the Urban Brain in Beijing’s Haidian district since 2018.Recently, the district implemented Jiuzhou, a large data model, to enhance the Urban Brain. The Urban Brain uses artificial intelligence (AI) to quickly analyze data and find citizens’ most significant concerns. It generates solutions within minutes, making urban governance more intelligent. During a live demonstration of the Urban Brain, the data model identified the top three streets with the highest resolution rates (解决率) of noise pollution in early August 2023, when asked to make a list of them. It can also offer better recommendations for addressing the issue. In terms of environmental sustainability (可持续性), the management of air and water with the Urban Brain is also ongoing. With 198 fixed monitoring devices and five mobile air quality monitors, air quality is analyzed in real time, aiding in addressing environmental issues and achieving positive results. Cities worldwide are at different stages of smart technology development and implementation. Singapore is a frontrunner (领先者) in creating fully smart governance, utilizing Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled cameras to monitor public space cleanliness and systems for real-time monitoring of energy use, waste management and water use. San Diego in California, US, has used 3,200 smart sensors for improving traffic flow, parking, public safety and environmental awareness. Though the black hole, named Gaia BH3, is the second-closest known to our home planet, it gives out little detectable radiation and had therefore gone undetected. “It’s a complete surprise,” says Pasquale Panuzzo, the study’s lead author and an astronomer at the Observatory de Paris. Located in the constellation (星座) Aquila the Eagle, Gaia BH3 was uncovered by chance in a mass of data and observations collected by European Space Agency (ESA) astronomers. As the team reviewed findings from the agency’s Gaia mission, which is building a 3D map of our galaxy (星系), something unusual caught their attention: a strange star some 1,926 light-years away. The object’s curious motion indicated that a large black hole nearby had locked it into an orbit. To prove their finding, the team of astronomers and ground operators used the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope, located in Chile, to confirm Gaia BH3’s mass. In findings published in the journal astronomy & Astrophysics, they shared that the unusual star orbits the black hole every 11.6 years. And Gaia BH3 is a type of black hole caused by the collapse of a star, known as a stellar (恒星的) black hole — and it’s the largest of this type discovered in our galaxy. The average size of stellar black holes in the Milky Way is about ten times the mass of the sun, with the previous record-holder, called Cygnus X-1, being 21 times the mass of the sun. Still, in terms of the vast quantity of black holes, the 33-solar-mass Gaia BH3 is relatively small. For instance, Sagittarius A*, the super massive black hole in the center of the Milky Way, has a mass four million times larger than that of the sun. Gaia BH3 is the second-closest black hole to Earth, behind only Gaia BH1, which is 1,500 light-years away and ten times the mass of the sun. The discovery is significant, as it provides astronomers with clues to better understand how the deaths of ancient stars gave rise to stellar black holes. 32. What can be inferred about Gaia BH3? A. It is familiar to Pasquale. B. It is too far to be detected. C. It is an inactive black hole. D. It is almost 2,000 years old. 33. What does paragraph 2 focus on? A. The discovery of Gaia BH3. B. The goal of the Gaia mission. C. The impact of Gaia BH3. D. The motion of Gaia BH3. 34. Which of the following has the largest mass? A. Gaia BH1. B. Cygnus X-1. C. Gaia BH3. D. Sagittarius A*. 35. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To explain the complexity of galaxies. B. To report an astronomical phenomenon. C. To educate readers to have an inquiring mind. D. To instruct astronomers how to find a black hole. C 33. A 34. D 35. 根据第一段第二句“Though the black hole, named Gaia BH3, is the second-closest known to our home planet, it gives out little detectable radiation and had therefore gone undetected. (尽管这个名为盖亚BH3的黑洞是已知距离地球第二近的黑洞,但它释放出极少可探测到的辐射,因此一直未被发现。)”可知, 盖亚BH3 (Gaia BH3) 之所以长期未被发现,是因为它释放的辐射极少,难以被探测到,由此可推知,这是一个不活跃的黑洞。故选C项。 【33题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第二段第一句“Located in the constellation Aquila the Eagle, Gaia BH3 was uncovered by chance in a mass of data and observations collected by European Space Agency astronomers. Moods can brighten and darken, futures can be under a cloud, and relationships can be stormy.___36___, but does it also influence our moods? Of the many aspects of weather, sunshine is the most closely tied to mood. Although the link is weaker than many people imagine, sunlight has repeatedly been found to increase positive moods and reduce tiredness.____37____. Happy people tend to be more favorable toward one another, and people are more helpful when the sun is shining. One study even found that diners in Minnesota, US, tipped more generously on sunny days. ____38____. A study showed that university admissions officers stressed the academic qualifications of applicants more on cloudy days, and their non-academic qualities more on sunny ones. ____39____. The more it departs (偏离) from an ideal of around 20C, the more discomfort we feel. One study found that rates of helping others decreased as temperatures dropped below or rose above this value. Indeed, the effects of weather on mood depend on our behavior and on how we think. ___40___. A study by US psychology researcher Matthew Keller and his colleagues showed that beneficial effects of warm and sunny conditions on mood were only seen in people who had spent more than 30 minutes outdoors that day. Good weather even had negative effects on mood for people confined (限制) indoors, who perhaps looked enviously (嫉妒地) outside at the solar fun they were missing. A. Similarly, grey weather may encourage serious and calm thinking B. Aspects of weather beyond heat and sunshine have also been shown to affect mood C. Weather provides a vivid language for describing our emotional atmosphere D. Temperature can also affect our mind and behavior E. But the effects of weather on mood are not entirely biological F. Anything that changes our moods can affect our behavior G. Basically, weather will only influence us if we are outdoors experiencing it 【答案】36. C 37. F 38. A 39. D 40. I walked with other volunteers into a large room in which there was a large variety of books. Some were picture books, such as Cifford or The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Others were chapter books with pictures in them, such as the Berenstain Bears and The Wimpy Kid series. For the extremely talented kids who like to be challenged, we provided chapter books that required imagination to understand. Just after I had gathered some books together, someone announced that it was almost time for the activity to start. All at once, a burst of voices was heard. The doors opened, and the children rushed in, beginning to look for a reading buddy(伙伴). They all looked so eager to read, just like mice eager to taste a piece of cheese. I was sitting there waiting and glancing at the books that I had picked out for the lucky kid I would read them to. Just then, a boy about six years old began to come my way, and I knew that I had found my reading buddy. "Hi, I'm Max. Would you like to be my reading buddy?" "Sure," I responded. And then, I let him search for a book of his choice. "I like this one," shouted Max. I looked at the book that he had chosen. It told an adventure story of a little girl with her dog, and it seemed that it would be a good one to read to him. 注意: 1、续写词数应为150左右; 2、请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: "Can you tell me why you want this book?” I asked. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Then came the after-reading activities in which we interacted with each other. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】"Can you tell me why you want this book?" I asked. "I like adventure stories and I like dogs," he answered. I was delighted with his answer, and at once, I started to read to him. The story was so attractive to Max. He listened with great interest, totally lost in what was described in the story. He thanked me when I finished reading to him, looking so happy for having got the chance to listen to the story. Then came the after-reading activities in which we interacted with each other. "I wish I were the dog. Then I could go on an adventure," said Max as we were talking about the story. I laughed and encouraged him to come up with some different endings of the story, which all sounded pretty funny. In the end, we acted out the story together. You can imagine how happy he was. A book opens a door to a whole new world. That day, I helped Max open one, and I'm convinced that he will be able to open many more for himself in the future. 词汇激活 行为类 喜欢:like/be fond of 完成:finish/complete 鼓励:encourage /inspire 提出:come up with/put forward 情绪类 高兴的:happy/delighted/pleased 有吸引力的:attractive/appealing 【点睛】[高分句型1] He listened with great interest, totally lost in what was described in the story. A. Relaxed. B. Annoyed. C. Anxious. D. Restless. B. Neutral. C. Satisfied. D. Doubtful. C Cities across the globe are taking different paths in smart governance. Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, uses smart city technology for traffic routing, parking, infrastructure (基础设施) planning, transportation, smart healthcare, smart buildings, education and tourism. Smart governance aims to improve city functions, boost economic growth and enhance citizens’ quality of life through smart technologies and data analysis. The “Urban Brain” is making city management more efficient. 28. What is the purpose of implementing the Urban Brain in Beijing’s Haidian district? A. To enhance urban governance. B. To purify the city’s air and water. C. To monitor public space cleanliness. D. To provide the government with a data model. 29. How does the author describe the advantages of the Urban Brain? A. By giving examples. B. By quoting its designers. C. By presenting different views. D. By describing personal experiences. 30. What can we infer about cities mentioned in the passage? A. They compete with each other in developing smart governance. B. They face similar challenges in noise pollution and traffic management. C. They adopt different technological approaches based on their needs. D. They all use the “Urban Brain” system to improve city functions. 31. What is the main topic of the passage? A. Environmental sustainability in global cities B. Different smart governance systems worldwide C. The development of AI in Beijing’s Haidian district D. How technology improves urban life through smart governance D Less than 2,000 light-years away from Earth, a new black hole with a mass 33 times greater than that of our sun was spotted recently. The discovery is significant as it provides astronomers with clues to better understand how the deaths of ancient stars gave rise to stellar black holes. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分。共12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How Weather Affects Our Mood The weather supplies many metaphors (隐喻) for our changeable minds.
