It was a very old game. They opened the box and took out wooden pieces and a paper board. It felt strange—the pieces didn’t light up or make sounds, and the board didn’t show moving pictures.
“What a trouble!” said Lila. “You have to carry all these pieces around. Our home screen has thousands of games—we just tap and play. We don’t have to pick up anything.” Leo asked, “What’s this game about?”
“Adventure. From hundreds of years ago,” Lila said. “People sat around a table to play it. They talked, laughed, and took turns moving the pieces. Sometimes they even argued about the rules!”
“Why would anyone play a game like that?” Leo frowned (皱起眉头). “Our screen games let us play alone, and they always know the right rules.”
But Leo wanted to try it. Just then, his dad called, “Leo! Your online game class is starting!”
Leo’s game class was in his living room. The screen on the wall lit up, and a voice said: “Today’s task: finish 3 levels of space racing. Let’s start.” Leo sat down slowly. He thought about the old board game—all the kids sitting together, talking and laughing while moving wooden pieces. And no screen to tell them what to do… Leo stared at the bright screen. The Station’s Unexpected Melody
It was a grey weekday morning when I got to the city railway station. I carried some food for my grandma and waited nervously for my train—we hadn’t met for half a year, and I’d looked forward to this trip for months. Soon, a loud notice came: a sudden heavy rainstorm hit the area, stopping all train services for a long time.
The crowd grew uneasy at once. Some called their families with worried voices, while others complained loudly. I felt sad and disappointed, staring at the delayed train board with no new news. As time went on, people grew more worried; voices got louder, and worried looks showed on everyone’s faces. Children cried, and a few passengers argued with workers. Just when the noise felt insufferable, a soft song spread through the air.
It was “Me and My Motherland”. A group of student musicians in school uniforms stood in the corner, playing guitars and singing gently. The tune calmed the crowd gradually. Soon, many travellers joined in quietly. An old woman next to me cleaned her eyes while listening, and even the unhappy man in front softened his expression.
That simple song didn’t make trains run again, but it filled the station with warmth. When the storm lightened an hour later, anger was gone. We weren’t just disappointed passengers—we were a group brought together by the familiar song, sharing smiles and short talks. It made me understand kindness and music can brighten dark moments.

In September 2024, Typhoon Yagi, a strong super typhoon, hit a small seaside town in Wenchang, Hainan Province at around 16:20 on the 6th.
When Typhoon Yagi arrived, dark clouds covered the sky quickly. At first, the wind blew softly, but soon it turned into a very loud roar with the strongest gusts over 17 levels. Big trees were pulled out of the ground, house roofs were blown off, and roads were blocked by fallen branches and rubbish. People in the town were scared; some moved to safe places with their families, some closed all windows tightly and stayed in strong rooms, and others worried about their damaged homes and farms.
After the typhoon passed, the town was in a mess. Many houses were broken, local fields growing rice and vegetables were flooded, and some public transport like buses and trains was stopped for a while. Luckily, most people had been moved to safe places in advance.
Local volunteers arrived soon to clear the blocked roads and take away rubbish. The government sent food, drinking water and tents to the affected families. In the following weeks, the townspeople worked together to repair their houses, start again their farm work and clean up the streets. By early October, the town was full of life again.

In his notebook, on 23 September 2180, Leo wrote: “Today, Lila found a real board game!”
The screen on the wall lit up and a voice said: “Today’s task: finish 3 levels of space racing. Let’s start.” Leo sat down slowly. He thought about the old board game—all the kids sitting together, talking and laughing while moving wooden pieces. And no screen to tell them what to do… Leo stared at the bright screen. He was thinking about how fun that old game must have been. He was thinking about the joy they shared.
31. What did Lila find on 23 September 2180?
A. A new home screen. B. An old board game. C. An online game class.

C. The board had no moving pictures.
33. What was special about the old adventure game?
A. Played alone with a screen. B. Played together by turns. C. Had no clear rules.
34. How did Leo feel about his online game class?
