In September 2025, a street vendor(小贩) in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, suddenly became popular online. Known as “Chicken Cutlet Brother(鸡排哥)” by netizens, he attracted long queues of customers every day, with some even waiting over 3 hours just to buy his fried chicken cutlets.
The vendor, named Li Junyong, is 48 years old. He moved to Jingdezhen from Nanchang at the age of 6 and has lived there for 42 years. For many years, he has run a stall(摊子) near No.5 Middle School in Jingdezhen, selling chicken cutlets and chicken strips. His stall is simple, with just a tricycle and a wok, but his sales style is unique—while frying cutlets quickly, he chats with customers and tells funny jokes, which turns the boring waiting into a pleasant experience.
He also has special rules for his business: students only pay 5 yuan for a cutlet(1 yuan cheaper than regular customers), students get priority after 4:30 p.m., and each customer can buy at most 2 portions. These rules show his kindness to students and desire to serve more people. After he became popular, Jingdezhen's cultural and tourism department gave him the title of “Cultural and Tourism Promotion Ambassador” because he helped more people know about Jingdezhen.
To deal with the large number of customers, the local urban management department set up a special team to keep order, and the sanitation(公共卫生) department also arranged more workers to keep the street clean.
24. Why did “Chicken Cutlet Brother” become popular?
A. He gave free cutlets to students every day.
B. He sold the cheapest chicken cutlets in Jingdezhen.
C. He had a unique sales style and provided emotional value.
D. He used the most expensive food materials for his cutlets.
25. How much do regular customers pay for one chicken cutlet?
A. 4 yuan. B. 5 yuan. C. 6 yuan. D. 7 yuan.
26. Why was Li Junyong awarded “Cultural and Tourism Promotion Ambassador”?
A. He sold cutlets to many tourists.
B. He introduced Jingdezhen to more people.
C. He had lived in Jingdezhen for over 40 years.
D. He donated money to the local tourism industry.
27. What did the local urban management department do for Li Junyong?
A. They formed a special team to help keep order.

There're plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables available in local markets. But while those red juicy strawberries look fresh, consumers have no way of knowing how long the fruit can be stored at home. The same goes for distribution centres and supermarkets.
Now, the food technology startup OneThird, located in the Netherlands, is looking to change that with an infrared(红外线的) scanner that can accurately predict how long fresh fruits and vegetables will last. The startup is named OneThird because onethird of food is wasted due to spoilage(变质) every year.
The startup's founders were inspired by a UK company that uses this type of technology in the medical field and decided to see if it was applicable for food. “I looked at the challenges in the foodsupply chain and found out that 40 per cent of food waste is fresh produce. One of the biggest causes of waste is that nobody knows shelf life,” founder and CEO of OneThird, Marco Snikkers said.
Quality inspections at farms and distribution centres are done manually(手动地). An inspector checks the fruits and vegetables and makes notes about the size and quality. Then the food is sent to consumers without considering travel time or how long the produce will remain usable.
Using the infrared scanner at the distribution centre means that inspectors can use the information to approve shipments that will ensure the produce can be distributed on a timely basis. This means that a shipment of ripe tomatoes will not be sent long distances away.
OneThird's scanner combines the technology of optical scanners, image modelling, and artificial intelligence to provide accurate shelflife predictions.
The startup found that the technology can reduce up to 25 per cent produce waste that was caused by spoilage. “Global food waste has an enormous environmental impact; reducing global food waste cuts global greenhouse gas emissions and promotes global food security,” said Jacob Smith, a climate expert from the University of Maine.
28. What problem does OneThird aim to solve?
A. The high cost of storing fresh fruits and vegetables.
B. Inefficient quality inspections at distribution centres.
C. Food waste caused by uncertainty about its shelf life.
D. Consumers' difficulty in judging the freshness of produce.
29. What inspired OneThird to come up with the idea of using infrared scanners?
A. The use of the device in another field.
B. Observation of the foodsupply chain.
C. Consumers' demands for fresher produce.
D. Experts' advice on food waste reduction.
30. What can we learn about the manual quality inspections?
A. They are timeconsuming and costly.
B. They are not performed at a regular time.
C. The inspectors tend to make wrong judgement.
D. The shipping time is not taken into consideration.
31. What's Jacob's attitude to OneThird's effort?
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful.
C. Negative. D. Indifferent.

Recently, economist Francisca Antman made a convincing case that the explosion of tea as an everyman's drink in late 1700s England saved many lives. This would not have been because of any beneficial substances of the leaf. Instead, the simple practice of boiling water for tea, in an era before people understood that illness could be caused by waterborne pathogens(病原体), may have been enough to keep many from an early grave.
Between 1761 and 1834, the annual death rate decreased considerably, but wages didn't seem to have risen much and standards of living arguably didn't increase. Actually, with the rise of the industrial revolution, many people crowded into towns whose sanitation left much to be desired. Some historians suggested that boiling water for tea might have played a role in this decrease.
“With people coming into cities to work, given the level of sanitation they have, the big killer is water,” says Antman. Using data from over 400 English districts, relating water sources and quality with death rates, she found the key date is 1785 when tea suddenly became affordable for the majority of Britons. There were many things to recommend tea as a drink of the common people: you could make a satisfying drink with just a few leaves, which could be reused for multiple pots, and tea was potentially cheaper than beer, which became expensive due to both the complex production process and a tax on malt(麦芽). She found that deaths dropped in all districts, but those with bad water saw death rates drop 18% more than those with good water.
Interestingly, while there wasn't a noticeable decrease in deaths among children aged two to five—who typically didn't consume much tea—there was a slight fall in infant deaths, perhaps reflecting the fact that if teadrinking parents had less diarrheal(腹泻的) disease, their very young children might have been protected a bit as well.
32. What might contribute to decreased death rates according to some historians?
A. Desirable sanitation.
B. Less waterrelated disease.
C. Industrial revolution.
D. Beneficial substances in tea.
33. Why did the majority of Britons in 1785 turn to tea?
A. Because it tasted better than beer.
B. Because it was less costly and reusable.
C. Because people needn't pay any tax on it.
D. Because people enjoyed its making process.
34. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Drinking tea has little influence on young children.
B. Children can also drink tea to protect themselves from diarrheal disease.
C. Parents' teadrinking habits may have a positive effect on their children.
D. Death rates of children didn't drop due to their lack of teadrinking habits.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. Why people need to boil water to make tea.
B. Why the British developed a love for drinking tea.
C. How tea gains increasing popularity in Britain.
D. How Britain's taste for tea may have saved lives.

Have you ever asked yourself why it is that when the dessert menu arrives, somehow, you always seem to have space? __36__ The team at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing found that the same nerve cells(细胞) that make us feel full after a meal are also responsible for our sweet desire afterwards. Here are four ways to work with your body if you want to reduce the sweet tooth.
Fill up on fibre(纤维). Upping fibre in the diet can prevent blood sugar rising which drives sugar desires. It causes changes in the gut bacteria that directly affect the brain, making you less likely to long for sugary foods. __37__ And leave the skins on potatoes for an immediate fibre increase.
Ensure healthy fats and protein(蛋白质) in your meal. They make you feel more satisfied and less likely to reach for something sweet after a meal. Healthy fats, in the form of fullfat milk and nuts, and protein in eggs, fish and beans, are important in determining how satisfied you feel. __38__
Try eating mindfully. The desire for sweet food comes from the need to be comforted, particularly when we are stressed. We often eat a sugary snack because we ignore our body's hunger signals. So before reaching for that biscuit, ask yourself these questions: __39__ Am I just bored or in need of a break?
__40__ If you are going to eat dessert, choose smaller parts and find a comfortable place in which you eat them. Use a plate, sit down and enjoy your snack. You can make more healthy sweet treats too. Have a square of dark chocolate with a teaspoon of nut butter to satisfy your sweet tooth in a more sustaining way.
A. Focus on what you eat.
B. Am I eager for a bar of chocolate?
C. So try to include them in every meal.
D. Can I ride this out until the next meal?
E. Well, researchers might have the answer.
F. Enjoy the dessert if you're going to have it.
G. Switch to wholegrain bread, rice and noodles.

I grew up in a large family of twelve siblings(兄弟姐妹). We weren't poor by most standards, but things were difficult for us. My parents never shared their financial worries, choosing instead to let us have a carefree childhood. But I knew that there were times they went without, and that certain things my friends had wouldn't be easy for me to get.
Back in those days, hot lunch was a luxury(奢侈) for the wealthier kids, and hotlunch buyers sat separately from the students who brought cold lunch. My siblings and I brought lunch from home every day: homemade bread, three cookies, and a small apple. We would look on longingly as the rich kids proudly sat down with their steaming plates of fried chicken or fish sticks and cold milk, sweet peaches and delicious cake.
I never said anything, but my firstgrade teacher, Mrs Caruso, must have seen the eagerness in my eyes. One day she quietly pressed a note into my hand and whispered, “Give this to your mother.”
I arrived home and gave my mom the note. She read it and smiled. “Well, Mrs Caruso said because of all your hard work, she wants to buy your lunch tomorrow.” The next day, I proudly carried my tray of chicken across the cafeteria and took my seat at the hotlunch table. Honestly, the food wasn't as great as I had imagined, but I was pleased to be there and felt honored to be a part of the group.
One rainy day, Mrs Caruso asked me to stay after school. My heart instantly sank. Surely, I must be in trouble! Did she know I hadn't finished my math homework? Did she see me making fun of Billy on the playground?

1. 续写词数应为150左右;

根据第二段“Now, the food technology startup OneThird … can accurately predict how long fresh fruits and vegetables will last. The startup is named OneThird because onethird of food is wasted due to spoilage every year.”
根据第三段中“The startup's founders were inspired by a UK company that uses this type of technology in the medical field and decided to see if it was applicable for food.”
根据第四段中“Then the food is sent to consumers without considering travel time or how long the produce will remain usable.”
根据最后一段中“‘Global food waste has an enormous environmental impact; reducing global food waste cuts global greenhouse gas emissions and promotes global food security,’ said Jacob Smith, a climate expert from the University of Maine.”
39. 根据上文ask yourself these questions及下文“Am I just bored or in need of a break?”

One possible version:
Dear_Peter,
Knowing you take a fancy to Chinese food and drink, I'm writing to recommend a popular drink—the soybean milk.
Soybean milk can date back to the Han Dynasty. Its white colour makes it look like milk, but it is actually made from beans. When heated, it gives off a refreshing smell. Additionally, it is delicious as well as nutritious since it is rich in plant protein. As research shows, soybean milk can help control blood pressure and keep the skin young.
If you are into it, have a try. I'm sure you'll fall in love with it.
Yours,
Li_Hua
One possible version:
After_the_other_students_had_left,_Mrs__Caruso_said_she_was_going_to_drive_me_home. It was raining, and she knew I had a long walk. Sitting quietly in her car, I felt that I got butterflies in my stomach. Soon, we pulled up to my house and she got out, laying a few bags on the porch. “Tell your mom I had a few extra things she might want,” she said. Then she drove away. Inside the bags were clothes, toys and books. The siblings, eyes dancing with joy and sweetness, gathered around the gifts.
Thinking_of_the_gifts_given_by_her_on_that_raining_day,_I_don't_know_why_Mrs__Caruso_took_so_much_care_of_me. Maybe she knew what it was like to feel just a little less than everyone else. Somehow, even with her charity, she never made me feel ashamed. She just made me feel loved and important. I've never lost that feeling—of being important to someone and being protected by her. After all these years, I'm still grateful to that wonderful teacher. It is her little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love that always keep me moving on.
Text 1
M: Let's paint this wall yellow and move the bed to the window.
W: OK.
M: Susie said our curtains were too dark. Why not replace them with bright ones?
W: Well, I don't have to factor in all people's suggestions.
Text 2
W: You're glued to the TV all day. How about flying a kite with me?
M: It is burning outside. Summer holiday is really boring.
W: How could that be? I used to put up a tent in the field with my sister during summer holidays.
Text 3
W: Help me, Sir! There is a strange man following me!
M: Come in, Ma'am. Shall I call the police for you?
W: Thank you! I'm absolutely terrified!
M: Take a deep breath and have some water. You can stay here until the police arrive.
Text 4
W: The project is finally over. Let's grab a drink tonight.
M: OK. I know a good place for drinking cocktails near my house. And it offers big discounts on beer every Friday.
Text 5
M: So Barbara, have you ever thought you would have so many fans on our website?
W: Actually, no. At first, I just made some videos to record my travels all over the world, but I'm glad that my videos can bring my audience pleasure.
Text 6
M: Sunshine Hotel. What can I do for you?
W: I need to book two double rooms and one single room under the name of Eva Winchell.
M: OK. How many nights will you stay?
W: We'll check in tonight and check out on the 21st of this month.
M: Got it. Do you require a pickup service or morning wakeup calls? We offer them for free.
W: No, thanks. We'll drive there. And we don't need to get up early. Anyway, do you offer parking coupons?
Text 7
W: Mr Lopez has been transferred to the branch office in Shanghai. Who will assume his previous role of manager?
M: I guess Bobby will fill that vacancy. He is careful and responsible for his work.
W: But he is too reserved and shy. Alisa is outgoing and has been working here for three years. It's time for her to get promoted.
M: Well, I don't think she will be a qualified manager. She tends to be impatient.
W: We'd better arrange a meeting to discuss it later in the afternoon.
Text 8
M: You look prettier today.
W: Well, I applied the lipstick Mom bought me from the shopping mall yesterday.
M: It is a good match for your skin tone. It seems that you'll have an appointment today.
W: I'll go to the hairdresser's with Anna. She is going to Hawaii for her honeymoon next month. So she wants a new haircut.
M: Then you'll have a big meal at the Thai restaurant that you two always go to, right?
W: No. I'll eat at Anna's place. Her husband Alex will make dinner for us. And Emma will also join us for the meal.
M: Emma? Is she back? I remember she went abroad to study.
W: That is her twin sister Emily. You got them mixed up. Emma wears glasses while Emily doesn't. By the way, could you please pick me up tonight? I'm afraid I'll miss the last bus. And there is no subway station around Anna's place.
M: But I need to go to the gym.
W: Are you sure you don't mind if I take a cab by myself late at night?
M: Alright. I'll go to the gym some other day.
Text 9
M: Sarah, have you heard about ChatGPT? It can answer almost everything with perfect grammar!
W: Yes. Is it the chatbot where you can even request a Shakespearestyle writeup about a movie?
M: Exactly! Many people say it's a game changer for online interactions. But there's more—Google launched its own chatbot, Bard, right after ChatGPT's release.
W: Wow, technology is evolving so quickly. But I've read concerns about these chatbots from some educators since bots can provide gradeA essays in no time.
M: It's definitely a matter of concern. Students could easily get premade answers in an age of rapid technological advance. But when ChatGPT was integrated into Bing, Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella commented, “It's a new day in search.” As Google mentioned, AI can help deepen our understanding and efficiently change information into useful knowledge. It is not to replace us but to make information more accessible.
W: I hope these advancements are for the better.
M: It's an everchanging landscape. We just need to adapt and make the most of these innovations.
Text 10
Hundreds of pet lovers and owners gathered on Egypt's Mediterranean North Coast in Matrouh Governorate for an annual pet carnival. It provides pet lovers and owners with a chance to meet experts in pet care, breeding and nutrition. “This is the first time to organize it on the North Coast, which is a plus for us,” said Nadine Hamdy, marketing manager of the carnival. The event includes activities of pet medication and training, and offers a number of recreational activities for pets, such as swimming and shows. For Adam Kilani, a visitor from neighboring Alexandria Governorate, the event was an unforgettable experience, as his fiveyearold pet dog Gawaher had learnt to swim for the first time. “It is a great chance for me to learn about pet care in an amusing way,” Kilani said. “Holding such events, especially in tourist resorts during the summer, will significantly promote the culture of pet ownership in Egypt.” Lina Kamal, who brought her threeyearold dog to the carnival, said the event was important because it raised the issue of street animals and offered solutions to their sad situation.
