Using new underwater cameras, it filmed rare sea creatures that had never been seen before. The show had a big influence—after watching it, many people stopped using plastic products to help protect the ocean from pollution. It shows how documentaries can lead to real change in society. 1. What makes Our Planet different from the others? A. It uses newer camera technology. B. It tells stories about baby animals. C. It stresses human impact on nature. D. It shows more beautiful places on Earth. 2. What do these documentaries have in common? A. They aim to inspire people to protect nature. B. They all have won international film awards. C. They use similar filming techniques to show animal life. D. They all mainly focus on environmental problems caused by humans. 3. What can we learn from the text about the power of documentaries? A. They always tell moving animal stories. B. They help scientists discover new species. C. They are more popular than other TV shows. D. They can potentially change people’s behavior. B A singer recently made the decision to put off her South American tour to stay with her sick dog, a choice that made some fans angry but she won a whole pack of new ones who thoroughly support and understand that decision all too well. I am one of them, because I had a similar experience with my own dog, Mordred. Mordred was an Irish Wolfhound, a big dog with a fierce personality. When I first met him, he didn’t like me much. He was protective of his owner, Douglas, and saw me as a stranger. But over time, we grew close. Mordred became not only my husband’s dog but also mine. He even walked me down the passage when Douglas and I got married. As time passed, Mordred’s health began to get worse. He was once a strong and proud dog, but then he had trouble walking and even could not eat food. I would stay by his side, taking care of him, making him soup, and cleaning up after him. One day, after he finished his soup, he leaned against me for the first time, showing his trust and affection. It was the most beautiful and emotional moment. Mordred’s health continued to worsen, and he was eventually diagnosed (诊断) with cancer. His once strong body grew weak, and we knew the end was near. No matter what happened, he still tried to be with us. When the time came, we made the painful decision to let him go, and I held him as he took his last breath. The singer’s decision to stay with her dog was an act of love and devotion. I suppose that’s exactly what the singer was facing when she made her brave and likely costly decision and she wanted to be there to honor her beloved friend up until the very end. Because once you get leaned on by a dog who loves you, you just can’t help but lean right back. 4. Why did the singer put off her South American tour? A. To focus on her hobby. B. To attempt to have a rest at home. C. To care for her sick dog. D. To spend more time with her local fans. 5. What is the author’s attitude towards the singer’s decision? A. Favorable. B. Uncaring. C. Doubtful. D. Angry. 6. What do we know about the author? A. She felt regretful about raising a dog. B. She was frightened after losing her dog. C. She was seldom attached to large pets. D. She had a deep connection with her dog. 7. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. Loving and Losing a Dog B. A Singer’s Heartfelt Choice C. A Tour of South America D. Admiring and Hugging a New Dog C A recent study from Flinders University has explored how coffee and tea might affect bone health in older women. The research followed nearly 10,000 women aged 65 and older for ten years, aiming to understand if drinking coffee or tea regularly influences bone mineral density (骨矿物质密度) (BMD), which helps measure the risk of osteoporosis (骨质疏松). Osteoporosis is a common condition that affects one in three women over 50 and leads to many bone fractures (骨折) each year. Since coffee and tea are part of daily life for billions of people, understanding their impact on bones is important. Previous studies have shown mixed results, but this research is unique because it tracked such a large group for ten years and its results are valuable. The findings showed that women who drank tea had slightly higher hip BMD than those who didn’t. Although the difference was small, it was significant and could have an impact when considering a large group of people. Even small improvements in bone density may lead to fewer fractures, especially in a large population. On the other hand, the effects of coffee were less clear, but drinking too much could lead to lower BMD. Women who drank more alcohol were particularly affected by coffee’s side effects, while tea appeared to benefit women who are overweight. “Our results don’t mean you need to give up coffee or start drinking tea,” says Ryan Liu from Flinders University. “But they do suggest that drinking moderate (适度的) tea could be one simple way to support bone health, and that very high coffee intake might not be a good idea. For older women, enjoying a daily cup of tea is feasible and may be a small step toward stronger bones.” 8. What is the main purpose of the Flinders University study? A. To encourage a healthy lifestyle among the elderly. B. To explore how coffee and tea impact bone health of older women. C. To prove why tea is a time-honored drink in the world. D. To compare the effects of daily diets on BMD. 9. What does the author think of the research? A. It is confusing. B. It is simple. C. It is meaningful. D. It is disappointing. 10. What can be inferred from the new study? A. Tea has no side effects on bones. B. Coffee helps improve bone density. C. High coffee intake harms bones. D. Overweight women need to avoid tea. 11. What does the underlined word “feasible” mean in the last paragraph? A. Difficult. B. Workable. C. Popular D. Ineffective. D Despite a 30-year warming trend, the last three years in the Bering Sea have been the coldest on record. A scientist of University of Alaska Fairbanks(UAF) says that the cold temperatures have helped produce larger zooplankton (浮游动物) in the Bering Sea, which may be changing the way Walleye pollock (狭鳕) are feeding. Alexei Pinchuk, a researcher at the UAF Seward Marine Center, has spent the last three years gathering zooplankton samples (样本) in the Bering Sea. He and his coworkers have been looking at how changes in temperature in the Bering Sea affect the zooplankton, and in turn how the zooplankton may affect the diet of Walleye pollock. During colder years, like the last three, pollock tend to eat the larger zooplankton, like copepods and krill, which grow well in lower temperatures. Pinchuk has also found that the recent cold temperatures have brought an arctic “sand-flea”, the amphipod Themisto libellula, south into Bering Sea waters. Young pollock seem to prefer to eat these amphipods over other, smaller ones of zooplankton. In warmer years, which include the record-setting high temperatures of 2001 to 2005, smaller zooplankton tend to grow better. According to Pinchuk and his coworkers, younger pollock tend to eat the smaller plankton, while larger pollock favor the larger plankton found in colder waters. This causes younger pollock to start out doing well in warmer temperatures, but as the pollock grow bigger, they may not be able to find the larger zooplankton they need to produce enough fat for overwintering. “The larger pollock may then eat their smaller cousins instead,” said Pinchuk. Although the last few years have been cold, scientists believe that the warming trend in the Bering Sea will continue. Pinchuk’s findings were recently published in the journal Nature on November 4th. His work is part of the broad Bering Sea Project, a six-year, $52 million ecosystem study of the Bering Sea. The Bering Sea Project is supported by both the National Science Foundation and the North Pacific Research Board. 12 How do cold temperatures affect zooplankton in the Bering Sea? A. They change the colors of zooplankton. B. They reduce the numbers of zooplankton. C. They slow the movement of zooplankton. D. They benefit the growth of zooplankton. 13. What is probably a challenge for young pollock in warmer years? A. They need to travel long distances for food. B. They may meet more enemies. C. They may struggle to survive. D. They have to compete with larger pollock. 14. What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph? A. Summarize previous studies. B. Add some background information. C. Provide some advice for fishermen. D. Describe the direction of further study. 15. Where is the text probably taken from? A. A science magazine. B. An educational blog. C. A fishing guide. D. A geography textbook. Three Ways Cooking Is Good for Your Well-Being • Cooking can help people get into flow states (心流状态) — a state of deep focus where you forget time happily. They went to the same high school, sat next to each other in class, and shared everything with each other — from their favorite snacks to their deepest secrets. In fact, they were more like brothers who stuck together through every small trouble and happy moment. One day, their school held a big science fair competition with exciting prizes for the top projects. Both boys worked very hard on their designs for weeks: Jack focused on a solar powered small car, while Tom spent hours building a model of a rainwater collection system. They even helped each other test their projects after school. Finally, Jack’s project won first prize, while Tom’s project did not win anything at all. At the award ceremony, Jack was extremely excited. In his excitement, he talked on and on about his project and victory, answering every question from the teachers and students without noticing the others around him. Tom stood silently by Jack’s side, trying to put on a happy smile, but his eyes were filled with disappointment. After that day, Tom began to act distant. He didn’t come over to play video games as usual, and at school he hardly spoke to Jack, even when they passed each other in the hallway. Jack couldn’t understand why his best friend had suddenly become so cold and distant. A week later, Jack heard from his mother that Tom had been very upset about the competition result. Only then did Jack realize that he had never congratulated Tom on his hard effort or acknowledged Tom’s help with his own project. Instead, he had bragged(吹嘘) about himself without thinking about Tom’s feelings at all. Jack felt terrible. Winning the science fair was not worth losing his best friend. He decided to make things right. That Saturday Jack took a deep breath and knocked on Tom’s door. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tom’s eyes widened at Jack’s words and a smile spread across his face. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高一一月份月考 英语 注意事项: 1. 1. I suppose that’s exactly what the singer was facing when she made her brave and likely costly decision, and she wanted to be there to honor her beloved friend up until the very end. Admiring and Hugging a New Dog 【答案】4. C 5. A 6. D 7. B 9. C 10. C 11. 根据第一段“A recent study from Flinders University has explored how coffee and tea might affect bone health in older women.(弗林德斯大学最近的一项研究探究了咖啡和茶可能如何影响老年女性的骨骼健康)” 可知,该研究的主要目的是探究咖啡和茶对老年女性骨骼健康的影响。 根据第二段“Previous studies have shown mixed results, but this research is unique because it tracked such a large group for ten years and its results are valuable.(以往的研究结果参差不齐,但这项研究具有独特性,因为它对如此庞大的人群进行了十年的追踪,其研究结果具有价值)”可推知,作者认为这项研究是有意义、有价值的,故选C。 根据第四段“On the other hand, the effects of coffee were less clear, but drinking too much could lead to lower BMD.(另一方面,咖啡的影响尚不十分明确,但过量饮用可能会导致骨矿物质密度降低)”可知,过量摄入咖啡会对骨骼造成不利影响。 根据原文最后一段“For older women, enjoying a daily cup of tea is feasible and may be a small step toward stronger bones.(对于老年女性来说,每天喝一杯茶是feasible,这或许是迈向更强健骨骼的一小步)” 可知,每天一杯茶对老年女性有益处,说明这样做是可行的。 B。 D Despite a 30-year warming trend, the last three years in the Bering Sea have been the coldest on record. 12. How do cold temperatures affect zooplankton in the Bering Sea? A. They change the colors of zooplankton. B. They reduce the numbers of zooplankton. C They slow the movement of zooplankton. D. They benefit the growth of zooplankton. 13. What is probably a challenge for young pollock in warmer years? A. They need to travel long distances for food. B. They may meet more enemies. C They may struggle to survive. D. They have to compete with larger pollock. 14. What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph? A. Summarize previous studies. B. Add some background information. C. Provide some advice for fishermen. D. Describe the direction of further study. 15. Where is the text probably taken from? A. A science magazine. B. An educational blog. C. A fishing guide. D. A geography textbook. D 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第一段“the cold temperatures have helped produce larger zooplankton (浮游动物) in the Bering Sea (低温有助于白令海培育出体型更大的浮游动物)”以及第三段“During colder years, like the last three, pollock tend to eat the larger zooplankton, like copepods and krill, which grow well in lower temperatures. (在较寒冷的年份,比如过去的三年,狭鳕往往会以较大的浮游动物为食,比如桡足类动物和磷虾,因为这些生物在较低的温度环境下生长良好。)”可知,低温环境对白令海浮游动物的生长是有利的,能促进其生长且培育出更大的个体。故选D。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“This causes younger pollock to start out doing well in warmer temperatures, but as the pollock grow bigger, they may not be able to find the larger zooplankton they need to produce enough fat for overwintering. (这使得幼年狭鳕在温暖的气温下初期生长状况良好,但随着狭鳕体型变大,它们可能无法找到所需的大型浮游动物,来储存足够的脂肪越冬。)”可知,暖年里小型浮游动物生长更好,幼年狭鳕初期有食物来源,但长大后缺少赖以生存的大型浮游动物,无法储备越冬脂肪,后续的生存会面临困难。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Pinchuk’s findings were recently published in the journal Nature on November 4th. His work is part of the broad Bering Sea Project, a six-year, $52 million ecosystem study of the Bering Sea. The Bering Sea Project is supported by both the National Science Foundation and the North Pacific Research Board. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 That Saturday, Jack took a deep breath and knocked on Tom’s door. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tom’s eyes widened at Jack’s words and a smile spread across his face. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: That Saturday, Jack took a deep breath and knocked on Tom’s door. He held a handmade thank-you card and a small gift — a set of tools Tom had been wanting for weeks. When Tom opened the door, Jack looked into his eyes and said sorry sincerely. He admitted that he was too proud of his victory to notice Tom’s disappointment, and he emphasized that Tom’s project was creative and practical, even better than his in some ways. He also thanked Tom for helping him adjust the solar car’s battery again and again after school. Tom’s eyes widened at Jack’s words and a smile spread across his face. He stepped aside to let Jack in, saying that he had also missed their time together these days. He explained that he was not angry about losing the competition, but just felt a little sad that Jack didn’t care about his feelings. The two boys then sat on the floor, talking about their projects and planning to improve them together. Their laughter echoed in the room, making the afternoon warm and bright. 词汇激活 行为类 ①改进:improve/better ②感谢:thank/show gratitude to ③强调:emphasize/stress 情绪类 ①生气的:angry/annoyed ②真诚地:sincerely/genuinely 【点睛】[高分句型1] When Tom opened the door, Jack looked into his eyes and said sorry sincerely.(运用了when引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] He stepped aside to let Jack in, saying that he had also missed their time together these days.(运用了that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
