My Sports Experience
When I was in junior high school, I was not interested in sports at all. I preferred reading books or playing computer games after class. As a result, I was quite weak and often got sick.
Everything changed when I entered senior high. Our school required all students to take part in morning exercises and afternoon sports activities. At first, I hated it. Running made me breathless, and I couldn’t play basketball well.
One day, our P.E. teacher noticed my problem and talked to me. He said, “Sports are not just about winning. They’re about challenging yourself and becoming stronger.” He suggested I start with swimming, which was easier on the body.
I followed his advice and joined the school swimming club. At first, I could only swim a few meters. But with daily practice, I gradually improved. After three months, I could swim 50 meters without stopping.
Now, I enjoy swimming very much. It has made me stronger and more energetic. I no longer get sick easily, and I even joined the school sports meeting last month. Sports have taught me that with persistence, anyone can improve.

Swimmers are tidy and make the best lovers while cyclists vote Liberal Democrat. What your favorite sport says about you? Unless your name is Rebecca Adlington, Victoria Pendleton or Mo Farah, sport is probably nothing more than an enjoyable hobby.
Now a new study has revealed that your choice of sport says more about you than you could possibly have imagined. According to researchers, cyclists are more likely to be emotionally stable, runners the most outgoing and swimmers the happiest, while walkers are the least materialistic.
The psychological study, which was carried out by experts from Mind Lab, also revealed that sport can also offer clues to a person’s attitude to charity, reading habits and even their voting intentions. Cyclists, for example, are most likely to vote Liberal Democrat and tend to be calm in front of material possessions. Meanwhile runners tend to be Labour-voting outgoing people who love being the centre of attention. Those who swim tend to make the best lovers, are tidy and are also the most charitable, although according to Mind Lab, 61 percent of adults are fond of charity regardless of their choice of sport. Walkers, a group that includes those who enjoy wandering, cross-country races and hiking, are least concerned about material possessions and like being alone.
“It has long been known that exercise is not only good for your body, but also your mind,” says psychologist Dr David Lewis. “Past research has shown that exercising can be used to treat and possibly even prevent anxiety and generally has a positive effect on mental health. The results from this study show that no matter what kind of person you are, there is the right kind of exercise for you,” Dr David Lewis adds.
12. What kind of people may not get angry easily according to the study?
A. Cyclists. B. Runners.
C. Swimmers. D. Walkers.
13. How is Paragraph 3 mainly developed?
A. By giving examples.

D. By setting down general rules
14. Which word can best describe the character of swimmers?
A. Humorous. B. Pessimistic.
C. Open-minded. D. Warm-hearted.
15. In the last paragraph, Dr David Lewis makes the point that ________.
A. it’s better to choose sports that suit you well
B. bad feelings can be got rid of by doing exercise
C. there’s no doubt that sports can keep you healthy

根据后文“The Chinese character of September is the same as 9, so we get this special name.(九月的汉字与数字九相同,所以我们得到了这个特殊的名字)”可知,这里解释了重阳节名字的来历,因为有两个“九”,G项“It is celebrated on Sept. 9th of the Lunar Calendar, around October.(它在农历的九月初九庆祝,大约在公历10月)”指明重阳节的时间,引出后文名字的来历。故选G。

An artist who had painted many pictures of great beauty found that he had not yet painted the “real” picture. In his search along a dusty road, he met a young bride (新娘) who told him that the most beautiful thing in the world is “love”. “Love” makes the world go around.
Love builds poverty into riches, sweetens tears and makes much of little. Without love there is no beauty.
Still the artist continued his search and met a tired soldier.
The artist asked him the same question and the soldier answered, “Peace is the most beautiful thing in the world.”
War is ugly and wherever you find peace you’ll find beauty, faith and love. “How can I paint them — love and peace?” thought the artist.
As he went on walking, his mind wondered on the “real” picture he hoped to paint. He was surprised that without thinking where he was going, he had reached his familiar surroundings (环境).

As he entered the doorway, light glistened (闪光) in his eyes and he realized that his search was over. His wife hurried over with a cup of warm tea, smiling gently, and his children ran to hug his legs, cheering happily. The fire in the fireplace was burning brightly, casting a warm glow over every corner. He suddenly understood: love was in the warm smile and caring gesture of his wife, and peace was in the safe and happy laughter of his children. All the beauty he had been searching for was right here, around him.
The artist painted the most beautiful thing in the world and called it “HOME”.On the canvas, there was a warm house with glowing lights, a couple smiling at each other, and children playing happily by the fireplace. He did not use bright and gorgeous colors, but simple and warm tones, which perfectly showed the warmth of love and the tranquility of peace. This painting, full of sincere feelings, became his most famous work, for everyone who saw it could feel the true beauty of the world.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
