C.The land was near a river. 20.How many inches was the tower leaning less than before? A.7. B.17. C.70. 【答案】18.A 19.A 20.B 【原文】 M: Those who built the Tower of Pisa never meant for it to lean, though this is what has made it famous. In recent years, workers have had to make the Tower of Pisa lean less, to make it safe for visitors to enter. The tower was constructed about eight hundred years ago in the town of Pisa, near the coast in northwestern Italy. The leaning came about because the land on which the tower was built was an old riverbed. The soil was sandy and soft, which caused the tower to lean to one side more and more over the centuries. By 1990, it was leaning so much that it had to be closed to visitors. After it was closed, workers began to try to straighten out the tower enough to make it safe. About eight tons of soil were removed from the non-leaning side of the tower. When the land was settled, the tower was leaning seventeen inches less than before. Though this doesn’t sound like very much, the tower is considered safe again — for now. In another three hundred years, however, the process might have to be repeated. A The American Museum of Natural History invites you to embark on a journey where wonder and wisdom come together to reveal the mysteries of our planet and beyond. There, in a small conference room behind an unmarked door, I put on a name tag (标牌) and joined 18 other nervous-looking people hoping to be cured by Captain Ron, a 78-year-old former commercial pilot who delivers a lecture to nervous fliers roughly once a month. I’d experienced 21 years of unmemorable flights before my own fear of flying took hold, which did not result from a recent succession of frightening plane crashes. Years ago, I was traveling from my home state of Iowa to New York City for a job. I was already nervous about moving, and then, somewhere above Illinois, the plane hit turbulence (湍流) and dropped what felt like a thousand feet. Several people screamed. They were all okay, and, physically, so was I. But I had unlocked a new fear. Captain Ron’s class took place on an immobile Southwest airplane. After introductions, he handed out boarding passes bearing our names, and together we marched through security and boarded. For the next hour, Captain Ron taught us how much time is generally required for a plane to be in the air and how much fuel planes typically carry for domestic flights. We were reminded that turbulence, while unpleasant, is not dangerous. We learned about strategies for powering our emotional “elephant brain” with our logical “rider brain” and were advised to do an “actionable task” like journaling about our anxiety or solving rapid-fire math problems to distract (转移注意力) ourselves during takeoff. Captain Ron didn’t erase my fear entirely, but he gave me something even more valuable: a new viewpoint. I came to see that fear, in essence, is nothing to be ashamed of. True courage, then, may not lie in the absence of fear, but in the gentle act of carrying it with us without judgment, as we continue to move forward. 24.Why did the author come to Terminal 4? A.To attend a class. B.To have the room marked. C.To hold a meeting. D.To give emotional support. 25.What caused the author’s new fear years ago? A.A series of plane incidents. B.A specific flying experience. C.A scream of the fellow passenger. D.A move to an unfamiliar city. 26.Which aspect of Captain Ron’s class does paragraph 3 mainly focus on? A.The venue. B.The content. C.The schedule. D.The significance. 27.What lesson does the author learn? A.Watching out for the absence of fear. B.Trying to erase fear with courage. C.Seeing things from various viewpoints. D.Progressing despite the presence of fear. 根据第一段“I put on a name tag and joined 18 other nervous-looking people hoping to be cured by Captain Ron, a 78-year-old former commercial pilot who delivers a lecture to nervous fliers roughly once a month.(我戴上名牌,和另外18个看起来很紧张的人一起,希望能被Ron机长治愈。Ron机长是一位 78 岁的前商业飞行员,他大约每月给紧张的飞行者做一次讲座。)”可知,作者来到4号航站楼是为了参加Ron机长的课程。故选A。 25. 根据第二段“Years ago, I was traveling from my home state of Iowa to New York City for a job. I was already nervous about moving, and then, somewhere above Illinois, the plane hit turbulence and dropped what felt like a thousand feet. Several people screamed. They were all okay, and, physically, so was I. But I had unlocked a new fear.(几年前,我从家乡爱荷华州去纽约工作。我已经对搬家感到紧张了,然后,在伊利诺伊州上空的某个地方,飞机遇到了湍流,感觉像掉了一千英尺。几个人尖叫起来。他们都没事,我身体上也没事。但我解锁了一种新的恐惧。)”可知,作者的新恐惧是由一次具体的飞行经历引起的。故选B。 26.主旨大意题。根据第三段 “For the next hour, Captain Ron taught us how much time is generally required for a plane to be in the air and how much fuel planes typically carry for domestic flights. We were reminded that turbulence, while unpleasant, is not dangerous. We learned about strategies for powering our emotional “elephant brain” with our logical “rider brain” and were advised to do an “actionable task” like journaling about our anxiety or solving rapid-fire math problems to distract ourselves during takeoff.(在接下来的一个小时里,Ron 机长教我们飞机在空中通常需要多少时间,以及国内航班通常携带多少燃料。我们被提醒,湍流虽然令人不快,但并不危险。我们学习了用逻辑的“骑手大脑”来驱动我们情绪化的“大象大脑”的策略,并被建议做一些“可执行的任务”,比如记录我们的焦虑,或者在起飞时解决快速的数学问题来分散自己的注意力。)”可知,第三段主要介绍了Ron 机长课程的具体内容。故选B。 27.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Captain Ron didn’t erase my fear entirely, but he gave me something even more valuable: a new viewpoint. I came to see that fear, in essence, is nothing to be ashamed of. True courage, then, may not lie in the absence of fear, but in the gentle act of carrying it with us without judgment, as we continue to move forward.(Ron机长并没有完全消除我的恐惧,但他给了我更有价值的东西:一个新的视角。我开始明白,恐惧本质上没什么可羞愧的。那么,真正的勇气可能不在于没有恐惧,而在于当我们继续前进时,不带评判地、温和地带着它前行。)”可知,作者学到的教训是,即使有恐惧也要继续前进。故选D。 C “We are one step closer to a greener and climate-friendlier food production.” That is the conclusion reached by Kasper Røjkjæ Andersen and Simona Radutoiu, professors of molecular (分子的) biology at Aarhus University. Their new research highlights an important biological clue that could help reduce agriculture’s heavy reliance on artificial fertilizer. Plants require nitrogen (氮) to grow, and most crop species can obtain it only through fertilizer. Nevertheless, a small group of plants, including peas, clover, and beans, can grow without added nitrogen. Scientists worldwide are working to understand the genetic and molecular basis of this natural nitrogen-fixing ability. The hope is that this feature could eventually be introduced into major crops so that they could supply their own nitrogen. This shift would reduce the need for artificial fertilizer, which currently represents about two percent of global energy consumption and produces significant carbon dioxide. Plants rely on the root protein serving as a “receptor” to sense chemical signals in the soil. Researchers have now found that small receptor changes can cause the plants to temporarily stop defending themselves and enter a cooperative relationship, known as symbiosis, with nitrogen-fixing bacteria. The team identified a small region in the receptor protein that they named Symbiosis Determinant 1. This region functions like a switch that controls which internal message the plant receives. By modifying only two amino acids (氨基酸) within this switch, the researchers changed a receptor that normally activates defense so that it initiated symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing bacteria instead. In laboratory experiments, the researchers successfully engineered this change in the plant Lotus japonicus and then confirmed it in barley. The long-term potential of this change is significant. “But we have to find the other essential keys first,” Radutoiu notes. “Only very few crops can perform symbiosis today. If we can extend that to widely used crops, it can really make a big difference on how much nitrogen needs to be used.” 28.What is the main expected benefit of the research? A.To stop the use of artificial fertilizer. B.To understand how most crop species grow. C.To make food production more eco-friendly. D.To increase the quality of nitrogen-fixing plants. 29.How did researchers make plants initiate symbiosis? A.By balancing the soil conditions. B.By removing a key switch region. C.By alarming plants’ defense system. D.By making a change in the receptor. 30.What is the future focus of the research? A.Extending symbiosis to more crops. B.Testing the essential keys. C.Predicting the long-term potential. D.Increasing nitrogen use. 31.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Crops’ Unique Growth Boosts Food Production B.Artificial Fertilizer Harms Agriculture Development C.Tiny Genetic Change Enables Crops to Self-Fertilize D.Nitrogen-fixing Bacteria Influences Energy Consumption 【答案】28.C 29.D 30.A 31.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第一段“We are one step closer to a greener and climate-friendlier food production. (我们离更绿色、对气候更友好的食品生产又近了一步。)”以及第二段“This shift would reduce the need for artificial fertilizer, which currently represents about two percent of global energy consumption and produces significant carbon dioxide. (这一转变将减少对人工肥料的需求,目前人工肥料约占全球能源消耗的2%,并产生大量二氧化碳。)”可知,研究的主要预期好处是使食品生产更加环保。故选C。 29.细节理解题。根据第四段“By modifying only two amino acids (氨基酸) within this switch, the researchers changed a receptor that normally activates defense so that it initiated symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing bacteria instead. (研究人员只修改了开关中的两个氨基酸,就改变了一种通常能激活防御的受体,使其转而与固氮细菌建立共生关系。)”可知,研究人员通过对受体进行改变使植物启动共生。故选D。 30.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Only very few crops can perform symbiosis today. If we can extend that to widely used crops, it can really make a big difference on how much nitrogen needs to be used. (如今,只有极少数作物能够实现共生。如果我们能将其扩展到广泛使用的作物,它真的会对需要使用多少氮产生很大影响)”可知,研究的未来重点是让更多作物实现共生。故选A。 31. C。 D Lions have two types of roar. The newly identified sound is a roar that is mixed in with the recognizable “full-throated roar” of the lions. The study is published in the journal Ecology and Evolution. Researchers from the University of Exeter used artificial intelligence to analyse the roars of animals to determine if there was more than one kind of sound. A total of 1,414 roars were analysed during a two-month study in the Nyerere National Park in Tanzania, which used microphones hidden in trees. Scientists also obtained more than 1,700 roars from collars worn by male lions in the Zimbabwean Bubye Valley Conservancy (BVC). They found the roar hidden between grunts (呼噜声) and full-throated roars, which was distinct enough to be classified as its own sound. Machine learning methods were able to accurately identify the two roars 95 per cent of the time, data show. “Lion roars are unique and the roaring bout (发作) is an important behaviour,” study author Jonathan Growcott, a PhD student at the University of Exeter, noted. “Not only does it act as a signal to other lions within their pride (狮群) as to where they may be, but, to non-friendly lions, bouts can be used to advertise territorial boundaries. Unfortunately, we are no closer to understanding what the communicative differences of the two roar types may be. But it has long been considered that lion roars may convey information relating to pride size, age or individual.” Lion populations are dwindling. There are around 25,000 animals in the wild in Africa, around half of the number at the start of the century. Mr Growcott added, “Until now, identifying these roars relied heavily on expert judgment, introducing potential human bias. Our new approach using AI promises more accurate and less subjective monitoring, which is crucial for conservationists working to protect. We believe there needs to be a shift in wildlife monitoring and a large-scale change to using passive acoustic (声学) techniques. As bioacoustics improve, they’ll be vital for the effective conservation of lions and other threatened species.” 32.What is the key discovery reported in Ecology and Evolution? A.A distinct type of roar. B.A specific function of roars. C.A territorial marking method. D.A newly discovered “full-throated roar”. 33.How did the researchers distinguish the two types of lion roars? A.By relying on experts’ field observation. B.By applying AI-based analysis to multiple recordings. C.By analysing a number of roars collected in one location. D.By using AI tools to compare roars from different lion prides. 34.What might lion roars act as according to paragraph 3? A.A means intended to aid hunting. B.A signature for identifying a specific lion. C.A tool for expanding the lion pride territory. D.A way to establish a lion’s status in the pride. 35.What does the underlined word “dwindling” mean in paragraph 4? A.On the decline. B.Hard to estimate. C.Under control. D.At a stable level. 【答案】32.A 33.B 34.B 35.A 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中“Lions have two types of roar. The newly identified sound is a roar that is mixed in with the recognizable “full-throated roar” of the lions. ( 狮子有两种咆哮。新发现的声音是一种吼声,与可识别的狮子“全喉吼声”混合在一起。)”以及第二段中“They found the roar hidden between grunts (呼噜声) and full-throated roars, which was distinct enough to be classified as its own sound. (他们发现这种吼声隐藏在咕噜声和全喉咙吼声之间,这种吼声足够清晰,可以被归类为它自己的声音。)”可知,发表在《Ecology and Evolution》上的研究关键发现是狮子除了已知的“全力吼叫”外,还有一种独特的新吼叫类型。故选A项。 33. 根据第二段中“Researchers from the University of Exeter used artificial intelligence to analyse the roars of animals to determine if there was more than one kind of sound. A total of 1,414 roars were analysed during a two-month study in the Nyerere National Park in Tanzania, which used microphones hidden in trees. (但长期以来,人们一直认为狮子的吼声可能传达了与狮群大小、年龄或个体有关的信息。)”可知,狮子的吼声可能传达关于狮群规模、年龄或个体身份的信息,由此可知,狮子的吼声是识别特定狮子的标志。故选B项。 35.词句猜测题。根据第四段中“There are around 25,000 animals in the wild in Africa, around half of the number at the start of the century. (非洲大约有25000只野生动物,大约是本世纪初数量的一半。)”由此可知,现在的数量是本世纪初的一半,说明数量在减少,故可猜测“Dwindling”意为“逐渐减少的”,和A选项On the decline“在下降”意思一致。故选A项。 What Your Eye Contact Says in Different Cultures Eye contact is often called the “window to the soul”, but its meaning changes dramatically depending on where you are. A team of Oxford University experts recently released a report Eye Contact and Culture, which explores how eye contact norms influence social interactions across 30 countries. 36 In Western cultures like the US and Canada, sustained eye contact is generally viewed as a sign of honesty, confidence, and engagement. 37 Teachers encourage students to make eye contact when speaking in class, and job interviewers often judge applicants based on their ability to maintain it. A lack of eye contact may be interpreted as shyness, dishonesty, or disinterest. 38 In China, South Korea, and Vietnam, too much eye contact — especially with elders or people in positions of authority — is considered disrespectful. Children are taught to look down slightly when speaking to adults, as a sign of respect. The report also found differences in eye contact duration. In Western cultures, people typically maintain eye contact for 50-70% of a conversation, breaking it occasionally to avoid staring. 39 It often takes up 80-90% of the talk, which serves as a sign of sincerity. These differences can lead to significant misunderstandings. For example, a Western tourist might think a Chinese shopkeeper is being unfriendly because they avoid eye contact, while the shopkeeper is actually showing respect. How can misunderstandings be avoided effectively? 40 Learning about these differences helps avoid misjudging others and builds more positive cross-cultural relationships. A.In many East Asian cultures, however, the rules are opposite. B.The answer is to recognize eye contact norms are cultural, not universal. C.People make brief eye contact and then look away, as a sign of respect for privacy. D.This cultural norm is widely applied in many daily and social settings in the West. E.In the US, avoiding eye contact during a conversation can make you seem untrustworthy. F.The findings reveal that a polite eye contact in one culture can be seen as rude in another. G.In Middle Eastern cultures, like Iran and Egypt, eye contact is longer during conversations. 36.由上文“A team of Oxford University experts recently released a report Eye Contact and Culture, which explores how eye contact norms influence social interactions across 30 countries.(牛津大学的一组专家最近发布了一份报告《眼神交流与文化》,探讨了眼神交流规范如何影响30个国家的社会互动。)”可知,该报告探讨了眼神交流规范如何影响30个国家的社会互动,本空应介绍报告的发现,F选项“The findings reveal that a polite eye contact in one culture can be seen as rude in another.(研究发现,在一种文化中礼貌的眼神交流在另一种文化中可能被视为粗鲁。)” 37.由上文“In Western cultures like the US and Canada, sustained eye contact is generally viewed as a sign of honesty, confidence, and engagement.(在美国和加拿大等西方文化中,持续的眼神交流通常被视为诚实、自信和投入的标志。)”及下文“Teachers encourage students to make eye contact when speaking in class, and job interviewers often judge applicants based on their ability to maintain it.(老师鼓励学生在课堂上发言时进行眼神交流,面试官也经常根据应聘者保持眼神交流的能力来评判他们。)” D选项“This cultural norm is widely applied in many daily and social settings in the West.(这种文化规范在西方许多日常和社会场合中得到了广泛应用。)” 38.上文“Teachers encourage students to make eye contact when speaking in class, and job interviewers often judge applicants based on their ability to maintain it. He had the seat next to hers and each week, before and after the match, there was always time for a casual chat. Now, after long, drawn-out weeks without their beloved football, she was eager to share her new college life and catch up on Tom’s recent news His family didn’t share his love of the beautiful game, so he seemed happy to chat with Ella He was proud of his children and grandkids, though, and lived in hope that, one day, Theo, his youngest grandson, might understand and come along. At the entrance Ella opened her backpack for a security check. Two bars of chocolate sat on top ready for their big moment when, or if, it arrived. It had become sort of a rule that the two would eat a square each after every home goal. Ella made her way to her seat, put down her backpack. and looked at the empty space beside her. Usually her old friend would be ready and waiting, holding up his ancient mechanical watch as a joke when she arrived, It wasn’t like him to be late, which made her uneasy. Just then, a-young man edged past her and sat straight down in Tom’s seat. She side-eyed him, failing to find any sign to identify him as a home supporter. And he seemed quite uninterested that their team had just scored. He even stole a quick glance at Ella as if they had known each other. Suddenly, a voice came from the ground announcer asking all supporters to stand and pay tribute (致敬) to a home supporter who had recently passed away. Ella froze in her seat — the tribute took place in the 76w minute and Tom was aged seventy-six. The club rose as one, clapping solidly for 60 seconds to show their appreciation for a long-time fellow supporter. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Ella noticed tears were rolling down the young man’s cheeks. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ella broke off a square of chocolate as usual and handed it to Theo. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 Ella noticed tears were rolling down the young man’s cheeks. Suddenly, it clicked — this must be Theo, Tom’s youngest grandson. Handing him some tissues, Ella asked gently, “You’re Theo aren’t you?” The man nodded, his voice trembling as he choked out, “Grandpa always talked about you, Ella. He reminded me that I must be here today, or he would fail a trusted friend.” Memories of Tom’s ancient mechanical watch and their casual chats flashed back until cheers for a home goal interrupted Ella’s mind. Ella broke off a square of chocolate as usual and handed it to Theo. “For that home goal.” Ella smiled with her teary eyes, “It’s what we have been doing for those years.” They both took a bite, the sweet chocolate melting in their mouths. Theo looked around at the cheering crowd, and for the first time, he understood the joy and sense of community that football had brought his grandpa. As the match went on, they chatted like old friends, keeping Tom’s memory alive in the fan zone. 词汇激活 行为类 ①颤抖:tremble/quiver ②打断:interrupt/disturb/disrupt ③明白:understand/realize/ comprehend 情绪类 ①.轻轻地:gently/softly/tenderly ②.乐趣:joy/delight 【点睛】[高分句型1]. B On a hot Saturday evening in May, I reported to Terminal 4 of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. C “We are one step closer to a greener and climate-friendlier food production.” That is the conclusion reached by Kasper Røjkjæ Andersen and Simona Radutoiu, professors of molecular (分子的) biology at Aarhus University. A.Crops’ Unique Growth Boosts Food Production B.Artificial Fertilizer Harms Agriculture Development C.Tiny Genetic Change Enables Crops to Self-Fertilize D.Nitrogen-fixing Bacteria Influences Energy Consumption D Lions have two types of roar. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 What Your Eye Contact Says in Different Cultures Eye contact is often called the “window to the soul”, but its meaning changes dramatically depending on where you are. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 When Patrick Bresnahan, a 4-year-old boy from New York, was diagnosed with Timothy syndrome-a rare disease, 41 came in the form of a golden retriever (金毛猎犬) named Yam. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。May I help you? madam? Workers have had to make the tower pizza lean less to make IT safe for visitors to enter. The tower was constructed about eight hundred years ago in the town of pizza near the coast in northwest italy. The lane came about because the land on which the tower was built was an river bed. The soil was Sandy and soft, which caused the town to link to one side more and more over the centuries. By nineteen ninety, IT was leaning so much that I had to be close to visitors. After IT was closed, workers began to try to straighten out the tower enough to make IT safe. About eight tons of soil were removed from the non landing side of the tower. When the land was settled, the tower was leaning seventeen inches less than before. Though this doesn't sound like very much. The tower is considered safe again for now. In another three hundred years, however, the process might have to be repeated. Those who built the town of pizza never meant for IT to lean, though. This is what has made IT famous in recent years.
