Four Amazing Websites for Teens
Teenagers love to be online. They can connect with other teens there. They can be themselves and find out what they are interested in. The following websites are safe and designed to draw teenagers.
Channel One News
Channel One News is an award-winning news programme that encourages young people to become informed global (全球的) citizens. Science News for Students
Founded in 2003, Science News for Students is aimed at providing age-suitable, topical science news for learners, parents, and educators. Published daily, it posts both shorter news stories and longer features, all written with a vocabulary (词汇) and sentence structure aimed at readers 9 to 14 years old. The stories are reported by experienced science journalists, many of whom have PhDs in the fields about which they write.
TeensHealth
This great website covers anything health-related that has to do with teens. Neil Izenberg, a doctor at Nemours, founded TeensHealth. org 27 years ago. It provides doctor-reviewed advice on hundreds of physical, emotional, and behavioral topics. Besides easy-to-follow articles, it features slideshows (幻灯片) ; videos and health tools to help teens learn, grow and be their best.
Cyberteens
Cyberteens is another cool site that celebrates the teen years. Here teenagers can find communities, games, news, and shopping. There is a link called “creativity” where teens can share their poems, stories, photos, and artwork. Even better, young musicians in the family can show their musical pursuits (追求). Nature was Chen Rui’s “childhood home”. The 37-year-old researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Zoology wasn’t able to talk until he was 4 years old. He didn’t have friends around his age, which led him to turn his attention to non-human things around him. He became extremely interested in the world of insects. “The happiest time of my childhood was in the farm fields. I squatted (蹲) there, observing the activities of insects, including ants building their homes and dragonflies flying low. I had so many questions about their activities and was full of curiosity about this world,” says Chen.
The experiences in his childhood planted a seed deep in his heart. Decades later, he’s a scholar who has engaged in life-science investigations in nearly 100 countries and regions on five continents. He has found around 100 new species living and extinct. “I was ‘healed’ by nature,” he says. “I wanted to grow up to share the power of nature with more young people and to popularize understanding of animals. including insects.
He has ever visited the Amazon rainforest several times, trying to discover new species. One insect variety he found was leaf-cutter ants, a species that shows powerful cooperation and farming abilities. He is impressed by their close cooperation. He observed that the ants are divided into different groups that are respectively responsible for cutting leaves, transporting harvested pieces, clearing obstacles out of the way, guarding the colony and taking care of the young. “Several million ants can live in one nest, but their activities are very orderly,” says Chen.
Chen points out that leaf-cutter ants are not the only species to have magical abilities. “If we humans believe we are the smartest beings in the world, we may be limited to this preconception (成见). If we are instead humble and regard all other beings as our teachers, we can gain endless wisdom,” he says.
4. Why did Chen Rui focus his attention on insects in his childhood?
A. He loved playing in the farm fields every day.
B. He wanted to become a researcher in the future.
C. He couldn’t talk and had no friends his own age.
D. His parents asked him to observe insect activities.
5. What aspect of leaf-cutter ants’ behavior impress Chen most?
A. Their skill in building large underground nests.
B. Their strong and powerful defense against enemies.
C. Their ability to communicate through sound signals.
D. Their highly organized division of labor among groups.
6. What does Chen Rui expect people to do?
A. Take inspiration from other species. B. Protect nonhuman things around us.
C. Explore the world of science. D. Apply theories to our lives.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Leaf-cutter Ants: An Amazing Species
B. Chen Rui’s Adventures in the Amazon
C. Chen Rui: A Person Cured by Nature
D. The Joys of Childhood in the Fields

China’s health system faces both strengths and challenges. While top hospitals in big cities have excellent doctors and modern equipment, smaller local clinics often lack well-trained doctors. As a result, many people travel far to see specialists (专家), causing long waits and overworked doctors. To help solve these problems, China is turning to technology — especially online medical services and artificial intelligence (AI).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine (远程医疗) became popular in China. People began using apps to talk to doctors by text or video. For example, JingDong Health reported millions of users and thousands of online consultations (问诊) each day. Another app by Ant Group also served over 100 million patients. These tools make it easier for people, especially in rural areas, to get medical advice without travelling. However, most users of these apps are young city residents who already have good access to hospitals. Also, many doctors use the apps outside their normal working hours, which does not reduce their workload. Experts suggest that hospitals could set aside a small part of the day for online consultations and adjust insurance rules to support this.
The next step is AI-powered healthcare. Some people already use health chatbots created by companies like DeepSeek. The government wants AI tools to be used in local health centers nationwide by 2030. AI could help local doctors provide better diagnoses, increase trust in local clinics, and reduce the need to visit big hospitals for common illnesses.
Yet, China has quickly adopted new technologies before, such as mobile payments. With tech companies, government support, and a willing public, China might also lead the way in digital healthcare — a model that could be hard for other countries to copy.
8. What leads many Chinese people to travel a long distance for medical care?
A. Big cities have more advanced medical apps.
B. Specialists in big cities offer free consultations.
C. Telemedicine services are not allowed in rural areas.
D. Local small clinics are short of skilled medical workers.
9. What does current telemedicine use imply about healthcare access?
A. It is equally used by all patient groups.
B. It has significantly improved rural access.
C. It mainly benefits those already well-served.
D. It has reduced doctors’ workload effectively.
10. What is the government’s key goal for AI in healthcare by 2030?
A. To increase online consultation fees.
B. To replace human doctors in hospitals.
C. To reduce healthcare spending by 50%.
D. To equip local clinics nationwide with AI tools.
11. What can we know about China’s digital healthcare?
A. It only benefits urban youth. B. It may become a leading model.
C. It is easy for other countries to follow. D. It develops slower than mobile payments.
D
In the summer months fireflies (萤火虫) become lively, starting their “love stories”. Male fireflies fly around and a part of their belly will light up. Then females sitting on the ground look up at the show and flash back to the males they like. They’re not going to mate (交配) unless they’ve exchanged these light signals.
Firefly species have performed that for millions of years, lit only by the moon. Now humans are damaging their feelings, turning on street lights and LEDs at the fireflies’ summer party.
In the firefly world, it’s the females who are particularly turned off by man-made light. Owens, a researcher at Harvard University, led studies, in experimental conditions and field conditions and found that male fireflies often keep flashing (闪光) under street lights and other kinds of overhead light, while female fireflies, active at night, basically shut down and stop reacting.
“Probably because they just can’t see the males very well,” Owens explained. “Typically male fireflies are looking down. Female fireflies are looking up at street lights and other light sources.” In lab conditions, not one of 20 pairs mated successfully under bright lights, while about half of firefly couples mated successfully in natural dim light.
“In the last decade, the night sky became twice as bright due to the increasing use of LEDs,” Owens said, which hurts the populations of fireflies. Sadly, no fireflies are protected under the Endangered Species Act presently.
“I like people to think about firefly extinction (灭绝) as sitting in a room of candles, and it’s beautiful,” said Sara Lewis, a professor of biology at Tutts University. “And if one or two of those candles went out, you probably don’t even notice it, but if that continues, eventually you are left sitting in complete darkness.”
12. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Telling their love stories. B. Exchanging light signals of love.
C. Mating and raising babies. D. Holding summer parties.
13. What is a serious danger of man-made light to fireflies?
A. It makes the female blind. B. It causes them to get lost.
C. It stops the female from reacting. D. It forces the male to shut off.
14. What influences the success of firefly mating according to the research?
A. The brightness of surrounding light. B. The male and female mating time.
C. The size of male and female. D. The number of firefly couples.
15. What does Sara Lewis say about the firefly extinction?
A. It will surely happen eventually. B. It produces a beautiful story.
C. It happens in a room of candles. D. It will come if nothing is done.

Our school’s Wildlife Protection Week is around the corner. As the editor of Eco-Vision, I am writing to call for your active participation in this meaningful event.
Wildlife today faces severe threats from habitat loss to climate change, making their protection an urgent task. As students, we can contribute in simple yet impactful ways. First, let’s avoid littering on campus, especially in green areas, as trash can harm small animals and birds. Second, we can create awareness by sharing information about local wildlife through posters or social media, encouraging others to respect and protect natural habitats.
Every small effort counts. By working together, we can help build a harmonious future where humans and nature thrive side by side. Let’s take action now and be a guardian for our wildlife friends!
