A Forgiveness means different things to different people.Generally, however,it involves a decision to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. The act that hurt or offended you might always be with you,but forgiveness can lessen its control on you and help free you from the control of the person who harmed you.Forgiveness can even lead to feelings of understanding, empathy and compassion for the one who hurt you.How do you start to forgive?Try the following steps. Calm yourself. To remove your anger, try a simple stressmanagement technique.“Take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure:a beautiful scene in nature, someone you love,”Frederic says. Don't wait for an apology.“Many times the person who hurt you has no intention of apologizing,”Frederic says.“They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way.So if you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.”Keep in mind that forgiveness does not mean reconciliation with the person who upset you. Keep off the unpleasant.Mentally replaying your hurt gives power to the person who caused your pain.“Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for love, beauty and kindness around you,”Frederic says. Try to see things from the offender's side.If you understand that person, you may realize that he or she was acting out of ignorance,fear-even love.To make it clear, you may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view. Recognize forgiveness is beneficial.Research has shown that people who forgive have more energy, better appetite and better sleep patterns. Don't forget to forgive yourself.“For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge,”Frederic says.“But it can rob you of your selfconfidence if you don't do it.” 1.The main purpose of the passage is to tell us ________ . A.the difficulty in forgiveness B.the benefit of forgiveness C.what to do when we are hurt D.how to forgive 解析:D [主旨大意题。 2.What can we do to remove our anger? A.Look for beautiful things in the person who hurt you. B.Try to forget the person who hurt you. C.Think of something that makes you happy. D.Turn to someone who loves you. 根据题干的remove our anger可定位第三段:Take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure:a beautiful scene in nature, someone you love ... 3.You should not wait for an apology because ________ . A.you should make an apology first B.the person who hurt you may not want to apologize C.you may lose the chance of forgiving others D.you can't achieve reconciliation with the person who upset you 解析:B [细节理解题。从文章第四段的Many times the person who hurt you has no intention of apologizing ... 4.What can we learn from the passage? A.Forgiving others can make you eat more and have a good sleep. B.If you forgive your offender, you will lose your selfconfidence. C.If you cannot forgive other people, you can turn to your teachers. D.If you focus on your wounded feelings, you will be crazy one day. 从文章倒数第二段Research has shown that people who forgive have more energy, better appetite and better sleep patterns. B I always wondered how people would react if I tried to approach a total stranger for help in a busy place like a street corner or in a noisy mall.I have always hurried past a stranger who tried to catch my attention in a busy place or when I am rushing around. Yesterday,I was in a busy shopping mall buying a large piece of luggage because I just had the time to do it after many days of planning. After the purchase in one of the large shops,I picked up my phone from my pocket to call my driver waiting in the parking lot but my phone was dead. I then requested the shop assistant who had just sold me the luggage to ring the number of my driver for me and she replied that it was the shop policy that they cannot use mobile phones while working in the shop. I got out of the shop onto the busy street in front and approached a young mother with her two kids to make a request. As soon as I said “Excuse me,madam”,she grabbed both her kids and ran.I felt like a kidnapper. I stood there, wondering how many times I had reacted to strangers like the young mum.I stood there in the busy street with people rushing by,looking at their faces to see if there was a sign of kindness on their faces. I saw a man pretty shabbily dressed. He seemed to have noticed me and I just stopped him expecting him to rush past.My request escaped the lips.He immediately called the number of my driver and waited till my car came to be sure I was picked up,and he turned around before I could thank him adequately and was gone.I was surprised by his kindness and hope I will do likewise to strangers who try to catch my attention from now on. 5.The author turned to others for help to ________ . A.charge up his dead phone B.call his driver to pick him up C.test their reaction to a stranger D.catch their attention to him 解析:B [细节理解题。由第三段中“...to ring the number of my driver”可知,作者向他人求助是为了给司机打电话来接自己。] 6.Who gave the author a helping hand at last? A.The shop assistant. B.The mother with two kids. C.The shabbilydressed man. D.Nobody. 7.Why did the author expect the man to rush past when stopping him? A.The man may be too poor to own a phone. B.The man didn't look safe. C.The author found himself mistaken for a bad person. D.The author was hopeless after seeking help in vain. 8.What does the author learn from his experience? A.Do to others what you would like others to do to you. B.Helping strangers is easier said than done. C.Experience is better gained through practice. D.Kindness can turn strangers into friends. It's now been 6 years since I sold everything and left the United States to travel around the world. ____1____ Meet local people. Make it a point to avoid other travelers from time to time and start conversations with local people. Basic English is spoken widely all over the world. ____2____ And learn from those who live in the country you're visiting. People enrich your travels more than sights do. Take lots of photos. Great photos are the meaningful souvenirs. Keep an open mind. ____4____ Listen to opinions you don't agree with. It's arrogant (傲慢的) to assume your views are correct and other people's are wrong. 2.E [根据小标题“Meet local people”和空前的“Basic English is spoken widely all over the world”可知,空处内容与和当地人交流有关,故E项“所以(和当地人)沟通比你想的容易”符合语境。] 3.C [根据小标题“Take lots of photos”和空前的“You may only see these places and meet these people once in your lifetime”可知,你要“用大量照片来永远记住他们”,故C项符合语境。C项中的“them”指代的就是空前一句中的“these places”和“these people”,且C项中的“pictures”与小标题中的“photos”相对应。] 4.G [根据小标题“Keep an open mind”和空后的“It's arrogant(傲慢的)to assume your views are correct and other people's are wrong. Try to put yourself in someone else's shoes and embrace different possibilities”可知,该部分主要说的是要保持思想开明,不要固执己见,要试着站在别人的角度思考问题,并乐意接受不同的可能等,故G项“如果别人的生活方式与你的不同,不要妄加评判”符合该部分的主题。故选G项。] 5.A [根据下文中的“Seek out interesting and unusual places where you don't see many tourists”可知,作者建议人们找到有趣而没多少游客的不寻常的地方,故A项最能概括该部分的内容。]
